Apparently Giphy has now disabled their “Play On Hover” option which I was using, because they want to inflict animations on people whether they like it or not. I don’t see a way to stop the animations in their API with a quick check, but I’ll look into it in more depth tomorrow.

Given what happened to Kurt Eichenwald, that should be illegal. I’m dead serious (though of course the chance of such a law ever passing in GOPertrump’s America is less than zero). Autoplay video of any kind makes me want to smash things. It ranges from horribly annoying data-plan drain to literally life-threatening for people with seizure disorders.
Perhaps a stopgap measure (especially if Giphy is determined to be douchey) is to offer some kind of reverse “Click to reveal” function - a button we can click to hide embedded content in a post, regardless of whether it was put in hide tags in the first place.

Try clicking the “refresh” icon (the arrow on the far right in the upper right corner of the comment box). That usually brings the box back to its “original” configuration.

It may just be me (though I hope not): but from what I’ve seen/heard/read* re Karen Handel’s latest campaign ads, they are starting to smell of desperation: basically reverting to plain old appeals to prejudice, rather than even a pretext of debating issues.
I’d like to think that that would be indicative of bad news for her campaign: but this is the Trump Era: WTH knows?

But don’t they have the easiest machines to hack? Plus they do not back the votes with paper ballots, so like in the election when something went wrong they couldn’t say if Ossoff really got 50% or the final numbers they had. Unless they are backing everything up with paper ballots, she might win and no one could say the election was hacked.

Because this guy said it and I didn’t:
Seriously, Officer Crystal Griner ran after the shooter and hit him WHILE RUNNING WITH A GUN SHOT TO HER ANKLE. Don’t diss liberals, Cait!
— Everett M (@EverettMaroon) June 18, 2017
The BBC is reporting that the MV ACX Crystal (the ship that t-boned the USS Fitzgerald) made an unexplained U-turn twenty-five minutes before the collision, according to maritime reporting sites.
That means the BBC doesn’t have direct knowledge, but would be a wrinkle in the investigation if true.

I grew out of punk a decade and a half ago, but Punk in Drublic still finds its way into my playlists.
The Decline too. If you want to get apropos with it.
According to wikipedia, the managers of the Grenfell tower (KCTMO) threatened back in 2013 to sue the tenants’ association for “defamation and harrassment” for claiming that the building was a fire trap. I think it’s safe to say at this point that there will be no more talk of such a suit. en.m.wikipedia.org

Best punk rock song ever written, IMHO.

God it’s so good. It’s been SO long since I listened to NOFX, and my tastes have changed so much since, but this is…awesome. So much more intricate than I think I ever gave it credit for. Some of that bass work, the structure…it’s just a perfectly constructed song.
Damn you, man. You got me back into NOFX.
Also, an 18 minute punk song…lol

No you didn’t. You sounded more than reasonable.

I have no idea the location selected, Jasmine used to be “it” but I have a feeling they’ve found something new.

Nah, you’re good. I’m in agreement with what you wrote.
Seeing posts on Facebook from old primary school folks I knew who are enjoying themselves at Country Fest in Grand Junction, CO, a.k.a. this biggest gathering of stupid rednecks in Colorado. Florida/Georgia Line is one of the headlining acts.

We have our town party next week.
facebook.com
For a brief time the town’s population will quadruple or quintuple.
We get all sorts of good stuff: Tractor pulls, lawn mower pulls (my side street will be blocked for those), a parade (my main street will be blocked for that, so I have to move my car elsewhere), shotgun competition, party at the community centre, poker competition (they won’t let me play), bluegrass music and art show in the village park, &c.

Wingnuts will be outraged no matter what is said and done. As far as I can see, outrage is the only policy position wingnuts have.

The music at LGF is truly one of the best things about the joint. The Acoustic Guitar tag is arguably the most beautiful link on the Internet.

Again, I’ve been around here for so long, I definitely know. I think I realized I belonged here when Charles shared Sergio Altamura’s improv stuff, shit, 3 years ago? And I lurked many years before that. The internet is a crazy thing.

You certainly can’t do worse in the commentary than I do, as I step on my (pick a body part) frequently.
So, if you’re new to commenting here, how do you feel about pineapple on pizza?

Bah, you young whippersnappers don’t know what it was like back in the ol’ days, back before we had log-ins and passwords and such. Back when it was the wild west ‘round these parts.
Now GET OFF MY LAWN!!!

Had my password sent to me on papyrus, I did. Had to walk 10 miles, uphill both ways, just to log-in.

I think I caught one of those right after Mr. Johnson’s post on leaving the right was re-posted to Huffington Post. Before I read that at HuffPo, I’d never heard of this site (hence my relatively new account date).
I’ve read a few of the older comments here, and sometimes it could get quite vicious. (To be clear, Mr. Johnson was not vicious, just some of his commentators.)

Good. We pineapple pizza folks will need you in future battles. We must stay the course, pineapple on pizza is delicious!
Hard as hell sometimes to believe that I’ve been here for so long. Well, scratch that, I took a rather long hiatus for awhile. Life clubbed me over the head and left me in a ditch for a few years.

Wow, your info says you’ve been here since 2004. That’s over a decade, man. Practically a hundred years in Internet time.

I remember you from the bad old days. You and just a handful of others are the only ones left from those days. Surreal when I think about it. This site has evolved right in front of my eyes. And it’s fucking delightful, I’ll tell you what!

Well, CBGB is transitioning into a commenter. Time for initiation.

Yeah, things have certainly changed. Thankfully by the time I came back, I’d started to realize the error of my (temporary) wingnut ways.

So who can tell me how to insert GIFs into threads.
There’s a couple of ways. You can insert a GIF file that you have yourself (must be 500K or less) just click on Upload Image in the lower left. Or you can insert giphy.com GIFs. To do that find the GIF you want and click on ‘Embed.’ CopyPasta that embed code, plug it right into the LGF comment. Done and done.
