Right Wing Launches Another Fake Outrage Over CNN, Based on Outright Lies

Politics • Views: 31,653

Here we have the latest right wing fake outrage, as dishonest fake news peddler @JackPosobiec whips up the delusional base into a frenzy with outright lies.

(The dishonest tweet above has now been deleted by Posobiec.)

Two important things to realize:

  1. The guy who posted the "CNN wrestling" video retweeted by Donald Trump ("HanAssholeSolo") is not a "15-year old member of the LGBT community." He's a 37-year old man. This outright lie was invented by Posobiec.
  2. The Reddit user only "apologized" after CNN found out who he was and contacted him. The "apology" was very obviously inspired by fear that his identity was about to be revealed.

Here’s an archive of “HanAssholeSolo’s” posts at Reddit, for reference, in case you didn’t know just how despicable and vile this guy really is.

And on this page he states very clearly that he’s 37 years old.

Just spent some time in the comment field of an article on this precise issue. The alt-righters don’t seem to grasp that people like Anders Behring Breivik and Anton Lundin Petterson behaved more or less like this reddit tRumpkin did before they took to violence. Ever escalating homophobia, misogyny, racism, antisemitism, the works. Until all of a sudden, something bad happens.

The situation is more less like waving a fake firearm which bears a close resemblance to the real thing in front of a police officer. It’s a situation which gets people shot, even here in Sweden. But what happens here is mostly that the police fire warning rounds or come damn close to firing.

Which one of these guns is the real deal?

The right one is the real firearm

Just want to say that the only thing as scary/more scary than the yam’s foreign policy is having Ms. Know-Nothing Nikki Haley dictating foreign policy.

“One of our capabilities lies with our considerable military forces. We will use them if we must, but we prefer not to have to go in that direction,” Haley said.

re: #26 Joe Bacon 🌹

A lurid right-wing conspiracy theory about the Clintons took off in Arkansas in the ’90s. Unfortunately, this particular conspiracy theory led to death: Two women were raped and murdered in the early 2000s, crimes that would likely not have happened but for the right-wing noise machine churning out Clinton conspiracy theories. From the get-go, the case of Wayne DuMond, of Arkansas, was a strange one. In the mid-80s, DuMond was convicted of raping a teenager named Ashley Stevens in Forrest City, Arkansas. Shortly thereafter, as Gene Lyons of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette recalled in a 2007 retrospective, DuMond became “the Arkansas celebrity inmate of the 1990s.”

From Lyons history:

First, somebody castrated him while he was free on bond awaiting trial. (Local investigators said they suspected drunken self-mutilation, not unknown among sex offenders.) Worse, the local sheriff exhibited DuMond’s testicles in a jar of formaldehyde, an Arkansas-gothic stunt triggering rumors of vigilante justice. Second, DuMond’s victim, who’d recognized her attacker on the street weeks after the crime, was a distant cousin of Clinton. That excited the kinds of conspiracy nuts who circulated Clinton “death lists.” They portrayed DuMond as a victim of the Clinton machine’s satanic wrath. His innocence became an article of faith on the fruitcake right.

It was one of the earliest cases of the Clinton conspiracy theory machine. During Bill Clinton’s tenure as governor of Arkansas, he refused to either pardon DuMond or help him get early release, causing Clinton’s political enemies to float the claim that Clinton was involved in framing an innocent man. (Why Clinton would want the wrong man in jail for his second cousin’s rape has never been explained by the haters.) Likely, due to conservative hatred of Bill Clinton — who drew ire in no small part because of his feminist wife — DuMond because a cause célèbre of the Christian right in Arkansas.

Jay Cole was an Arkansas pastor who made a name for himself in the state with his bombastic hard-right views and TV commercials warning that America had lost its way. He also befriended DuMond, and their relationship became so close that DuMond’s wife lived with the Cole family for a time. “I became his spiritual director,” Cole was quoted as saying in the LA Times. “He was a nice fella, and it was hard to believe he could have done what he was accused of doing. And Wayne claimed to be saved.” Cole was also good friends with Mike Huckabee, and when Huckabee became governor of Arkansas in 1996, the Christian right community started a pressure campaign to get DuMond released from prison. Not that Huckabee needed much goosing to make common cause with conspiracy theorists accusing the Clintons of shady dealings with the DuMond case. While governor, Huckabee wrote to DuMond, expressing his “desire is that you be released from prison”. By then, Bill Clinton was president, and this conspiracy theory made the jump to the national stage.

Heh… the holier than thou Hobby Lobby in hot water importing ancient artifacts from Iraq.

Earlier today, the United States filed a civil complaint to forfeit thousands of cuneiform tablets and clay bullae. As alleged in the complaint, these ancient clay artifacts originated in the area of modern-day Iraq and were smuggled into the United States through the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Israel, contrary to federal law. Packages containing the artifacts were shipped to Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc. (“Hobby Lobby”), a nationwide arts-and-crafts retailer based in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and two of Hobby Lobby’s corporate affiliates. The shipping labels on these packages falsely described cuneiform tablets as tile “samples.”

The government also filed a stipulation of settlement with Hobby Lobby, in which Hobby Lobby consented to the forfeiture of the artifacts in the complaint, approximately 144 cylinder seals and an additional sum of $3 million, resolving the civil action. Hobby Lobby further agreed to adopt internal policies and procedures governing its importation and purchase of cultural property, provide appropriate training to its personnel, hire qualified outside customs counsel and customs brokers, and submit quarterly reports to the government on any cultural property acquisitions for the next eighteen months.

Well, this adds a new, uglier dimension to the voter suppression plans of the yam administration:

Former Department of Justice officials and voting advocates are seriously alarmed over a DOJ letter sent to states last week that they say could signal a forthcoming effort to kick people off voter rolls…

The DOJ sent the letter to 44 states last Wednesday, the same day the Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity sent a letter controversially requesting personal voter information. The DOJ letter requests that election officials respond by detailing their compliance with a section of the National Voter Registration Act of 1993 (NVRA), which covers 44 states and was enacted to help people register to vote, but also specifies when voters may be kicked off the rolls.

Several experts said it’s difficult not to see the DOJ letter in connection with the commission’s letter as part of a multipronged effort to restrict voting rights…

“These two letters, sent on the same day, are highly suspect, and seem to confirm that the Trump administration is laying the groundwork to suppress the right to vote,” said Vanita Gupta, the CEO of the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights and former head of DOJ’s civil rights division under President Barack Obama. “It is not normal for the Department of Justice to ask for voting data from all states covered by the National Voter Registration Act. It’s likely that this is instead the beginning of an effort to force unwarranted voter purges…”

I’m guessing this was related to the fact the Oath Keepers were putting on a Prepper event at the mall and charging admission to that event. Apparently they thought that gave them the right to charge everyone walking through the mall $10/person.

Same for Notre Dame and Georgetown.

Also… Hobby Lobby’s pension funds were invested in companies that manufacturer contraceptive devices and medications they were opposed to having covered by their self-insurance. And they buy a lot of their crafting supplies from Chinese factories that have mandatory abortions for pregnant employees.

Wasn’t it the other way round? I thought the deal was that Hobby Lobby’s religious-nut owners decided to front the birth-control-mandate challenge on their own (as much as any Big Hate wingnuts ever mount national campaigns “on their own”)?

HL was known for their overt corporate religiosity (never open on Sunday, etc) well before Obamacare came in…

It’s because of the mass and the high orbit required. It will require every bit of fuel in the first stage to reach the required velocity. This may be the last expendable launch before 9-Heavy takes over launches in this mass/orbit class.

I’m getting off on the colors in the second stage engine bell just after they shut it off in their orbit entrance burn. There was cool light grey white to a green blue then a darker grey blue. And at times they were in bands of color. Having cameras on the craft really makes these flights.

Edit to add. Flight coverage finished. Satellite deployment was a success. Another good job by SpaceX.

Speaking of momentous launches:

As many pedants and others who have nothing better to do have pointed out in the comments, similar attire was seen in Roman times and earlier. As a modern cultural phenomenon, though, it originated 71 years ago today. This was the culmination of a long running move away from the ludicrously over-modest and possibly dangerous public bathing costumes of the 19th century.

Heydrich. Now he was the one to be really scared of. I tend to think that even though the Czech people paid an insanely heavy price, preventing him from making the final solution more efficient or, worse, taking over from Hitler made it worthwhile in the long run…

Now we know how they get their manuscripts.

Here’s Shabby Hab’s own statement on the settlement:
Artifact Import Settlement

Hobby Lobby and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York today announced that they have entered into a settlement agreement concluding an investigation into the importation of certain artifacts.

“We should have exercised more oversight and carefully questioned how the acquisitions were handled,” said Hobby Lobby President, Steve Green. “Hobby Lobby has cooperated with the government throughout its investigation, and with the announcement of today’s settlement agreement, is pleased the matter has been resolved.”

In 2009, Hobby Lobby began acquiring a variety of historical Bibles and other artifacts. Developing a collection of historically and religiously important books and artifacts about the Bible is consistent with the Company’s mission and passion for the Bible. The goals were to preserve these items for future generations, to provide broad access to scholars and students alike to study them, and to share the collection with the world in public institutions and museums.

So, it is just an oversight, the result of inexperience, that ancient cuneiform tablets were labeled as “tile samples.”

I love the Who. I was not immediately sold on Quadrophenia. I liked it, but it didn’t do a lot for me at first. And then the movie came out and it made sense and since then I love both the album and the movie.

For a three piece “rock ‘n’ roll” band to do some of what they did not only separated them from some of their earlier songs but separated them from a lot of the bands of the era.

But if you really consider their albums, they all sort of had themes. And “A Quick One While He’s Away” was their first mini opera. You can get hints of the coming Tommy in it.

And I’ve always been a fan of Who Are You, Magic Bus, Happy Jack, I Can’t Explain, and so relevant now: Won’t Get Fooled Again…

And then there’s this little known one:

[Embedded content]

I saw The Who live in late 1971 just when Who’s Next came out. As I remember, the songs they played using the tape backgrounds didn’t go very well that night. The show felt like “The Who plays Bumfuck, Nowhere”. They didn’t give a shit.

Bloomington MN really was Bumfuck Nowhere back in 71. It’s close to the airport but it was a suburb that had been cornfields 10 years earlier before. This photo is of the Metropolitan Stadium where the Twins played. The hockey arena where The Who played was built just behind the ballpark. That site is now The Mall of America and Ikea.

Mods and rockers

Mods and rockers were two conflicting British youth subcultures of the early/mid 1960s to early 1970s. Media coverage of mods and rockers fighting in 1964 sparked a moral panic about British youth, and the two groups became widely perceived as violent, unruly troublemakers.

I remember the media uproar about the 1964 “riots.” It was tumultuous even here in the States.

Sociologist Stanley Cohen’s
21st Century debunking of this uproar actually led him to coin the term “moral panic.”

He concedes that mods and rockers had some fights in the mid-1960s, but argues that they were no different from the evening brawls that occurred between youths throughout the 1950s and early 1960s, both at seaside resorts and after football games. He argues that the UK media turned the mod subculture into a negative symbol of delinquent and deviant status.

Cohen argues that as media hysteria about knife-wielding, violent mods increased, the image of a fur-collared anorak and scooter would “stimulate hostile and punitive reactions”. He says the media used possibly faked interviews with supposed rockers such as “Mick the Wild One”. As well, the media would try to get mileage from accidents that were unrelated to mod-rocker violence, such as an accidental drowning of a youth, which resulted in the headline “Mod Dead in Sea”.

What I loved was the orchestrated hatred of the “dinosaurs” like The Who, Beatles, and Stones. The Sex Pistols played that whole “old guys” (and, what, the Stones were in their mid to late 30s) suck thing while loving Iggy. Then Steve Jones leaked that he was listening to Boston all the while….

I may have missed this posted earlier, but Colorado has decided to turn over voter info to the Trump cartel. You can opt out, but:

“If you believe that you or a member of your household will be exposed to criminal harassment or bodily harm because your voter information is publicly available, you may elect to become a confidential voter,” the official website states.

In a press conference on Wednesday, Colorado’s secretary of state said voters would be required to explain their reason for the request under oath. He said people who typically qualify are domestic violence and/or stalking victims, as well as people with certain careers like law enforcement.

To become a confidential voter, you must go to your local county clerk and recorder’s office, fill out a voter confidentiality form, and pay a $5. Click here for a list of county clerk and recorder offices and contact information.

Trump then… didn’t bother to staff up the State Department, or the DoD, and there’s nobody who’s been working on the issue, or researching it, or in any way prepared to offer useful suggestions.
