I should refer this to The Older Boy, who’s taking a Forensics course. They’re doing handwriting right about now. He was castigating his lab partner for misidentifying his writing sample, given that 1) TOB always uses a BLACK pen, and 2) asked to write “I’m robbing the bank”, TOB wrote “I’m Robin de Banque”. The fact that this is a deadlocked jury isn’t surprising at all.

Before McDonnell (the US SCt case), this would have been a slam dunk corruption case.

After McDonnell, the definition of public act is so wide as to gut the federal corruption laws. We’ve seen a shit-ton of corruption convictions overturned on McDonnell grounds, including Joe Bruno, Shelly Silver, and other NYS legislator cases. Menendez would be yet another that would be tough to get to a conviction precisely because the case law has rendered corruption nearly impossible to prosecute.

The mistrial (likely) would mean that prosecutors would likely seek to prosecute again next year. It also means that a Democrat would be in Trenton (Murphy) and the process would favor Democrats for his replacement.

The Senate Refusing to seat Roy Moore is a tall order. It requires the same hurdle as expelling an already seated member, 2/3rds vote. Meaning 19 GOP Senators have to vote to expel one of their own when their contentious agenda already can’t stand the lost of 3 on most votes. We already saw Paul Ryan today reduce the entire thing down to getting tax cuts passed.

Add to that the fact that many of them are heading into the 2018 midterms and are deathly afraid of angering Trump’s atavistic voter base. It’s like the GOP knows their time in power is most likely limited and they’re doing everything possible to reward the people who put them there at the long term expense of the country.

I mean, they could do it, but it’s nowhere near a slam dunk.

Not the same ballpark. Not even the same universe.

These people are absolutely demented, especially when they’re the same people who were demanding that they lock up Clinton despite not even being charged. They skipped over indictments and straight to punishment.

Moore’s running and the pile of bad acts is piling up - not even counting getting removed from the state judiciary twice for refusing to follow state law/rules. That should have been disqualifying, except the GOP sees that as a badge of honor (rule of law my ass).

That too is a direct violation of the Code of Professional Responsibility and would be grounds for disbarment. In fact, it probably would be grounds to review every single case he ever worked on to see what happened (which should probably be done just because he’s been booted from the state judiciary twice for refusing to follow the law).

What I mean is, the behaviors women are going to report will not all be as obviously egregious as Weinstein or LCK’s.

Rebecca Traister wrote on this this weekend. The problem is that the behaviors span the spectrum from the truly horrible and highly illegal all the way down to what the guy sees as innocent flirtation with a coworker but which the woman feels compelled to endure because of a power difference the man doesn’t understand.

re: #195 Blind Frog Belly White

What I mean is, the behaviors women are going to report will not all be as obviously egregious as Weinstein or LCK’s.

Rebecca Traister wrote on this this weekend. The problem is that the behaviors span the spectrum from the truly horrible and highly illegal all the way down to what the guy sees as innocent flirtation with a coworker but which the woman feels compelled to endure because of a power difference the man doesn’t understand.

Oh, OK, I just misunderstood. Yes, this is certainly true.

I continue to be completely gobsmacked by this masturbation in the presence of unwilling others fetish. WTF is the internal justification? I mean, LCK admits to “having issues” — whoop-de-do. HW hires detectives to … I dunno, WTF did he think they’d do? Anything I can imagine makes HW look terrible, the cyanide cherry on top of the hemlock sundae.

None of what these assholes do makes any sense to me. They make Trump seem like a “mere” old-fangled male chauvinist pig. And of course they (used to?) encourage the “less obvious flirts.” People suck, and I am a people too.

I’m actually don’t mind the departure. The show wasn’t really using her for anything but a “jump in out of nowhere and save the day” deus ex machina device. A good 30 seconds before she showed up on her final scene I told my brother-in-law who was watching with me, “I’ll bet anything the tiger jumps in and saves them”.

Besides, it actually gives a little more backstory and pathos to Ezekiel (who has quickly become one of my favorite characters).

The sudden move by GOPers in the Senate to distance themselves from Moore sickens me because all of them know that if he wins the special election next month, McConnell will swear him in as their newest GOP senator from Alabama. The dude has already been seen in the Senate cafeteria having lunch with some GOPers last week—-some of them are the same senators that are now trying to get as far away from him as they can. No way am I believing they had no prior knowledge that Moore is an authoritarian-minded, despicable POS.

I also read that. I grew up in GA and that has given me experience with persons like McConnell and other GOPers based on close observations and noting for over 50 years the difference between the things they say and the things they do. I still believe that if Moore wins, they won’t have the courage to deny him a seat. They’re cowards and are afraid of the blow-back they’ll receive from Fox and GOPers in Alabama. I would like to think that there is some decency left in the party, but I won’t bet my life on it. McConnell and his GOP buddies in the senate want to keep that seat in GOP hands, and if they have to seat Moore to do it, they’ll do it. They stole a U.S. Supreme Ct. seat, and I’ve seen nothing that indicates to me they’d be willing to have a Democrat win that seat. I think this is why I’ve been reading that they’re wanting Sessions to leave the DOJ and have Ivey appoint him to his former seat in the senate. Either way it goes, Sessions returning to the senate is as bad as Moore taking his place.

If Moore wins, they’ll take that and run like goddamn thieves. There’s no way they’d give up that seat if Moore wins it.

Like I said earlier, they’re trying really hard to have their cake and eat it.

One of my lovely used-to-be-a-jewely-store windows has been given over to Mr. w, who restores cast iron cookware and other kitchen miscellany. There’s a cast iron corker-capper in there, displayed with a wine bottle (empty) so people can see how it’s used. At least once a week, somebody comes in to ask about the wine opener. When I tell them it’s a closer, they lose interest. This week, it happened on Monday. Maybe I can rack up one per day.

It would lead to nothing but disaster, and you would end up taking fire from either the right or the left depending on the next big outrage. You pull your ads, the right kills you. You keep the ads, the left kills you.

The figures are bloated to account for the fact that the billionaires will collectively get millions.

A bright, cheery good afternoon to all. An idiot Young Person smacked into the side of my car this afternoon at a fairly high rate of speed in a 25mph zone. He is (of course) uninsured. Fortunately, no injuries, but Mr. C. and I are preparing for the possibility that the amount of damage to our 2010 Prius may count as it being totaled.
Fortunately, if that is the case, we can afford to buy a new vehicle, but it wasn’t high on our list of things we wanted to do.

Still, no injuries, we have good insurance, and we can afford to deal with however it turns out. How’s everyone else’s day going?

Rush today made the comparison between Roy Moore and the 14-year-old, and President Clinton and Lewinsky the 19-year-old. Lewinsky was 22 at the time. He repeated that she was 19 all day long.

Even if she was 19, so what? 18 is the age of majority. She wasn’t 16 or even 14.

They defended the rights of deranged nutjobs to own and operate firearms after a bunch of schoolchildren were murdered in cold blood. And not only did that not kill them off, they got even worse.

HOLLOMAN AIR FORCE BASE, NM — Family and friends of a missing Holloman Air Force Base Airman are asking for the public’s help in locating DeAnna May Gordon, 20.

According to Gordon’s family and friends on Facebook, Gordon has been missing since Nov. 3.

The Air Force Office of Special Investigations (OSI) is currently investigating Gordon’s disappearance. Gordon’s loved ones on Facebook say they are concerned for her safety.

[…]

Gordon was last seen Nov. 2 entering Holloman Air Force Base.[…]

Holloman has problems. Last week’s TX shooter smuggled in guns when he was there.

My day is hanging by a thread. The last week at work has been essential hell. I’m surprised I still have a job. The stress has been extreme. I am glad you are okay, though I would encourage you to get checked out for whiplash-related injuries. I know from personal experience and from Mrs. Fish how subtle that damage can be.

I’m sorry your job is so stressful.
I don’t think anything happened that could possibly have caused whiplash. The car was hit back of center and was pushed some distance and turned maybe 70 degrees or so. My shoulder bumped the window, and my head probably moved to the side a bit, but was protected by the airbag. I’ll stay alert for any problems, though.
