He’s So Far Right He Almost Wraps Around, He’s Rabidly Anti-Muslim and Pro-War, and He’s Trump’s New NatSec Adviser

Politics • Views: 33,110

And now, the return of paleo-conservative anti-Muslim mustache host John Bolton, as our so-called president’s National Security Adviser, possibly the worst person ever to hold this position. No, make that probably. Actually, definitely.

The anti-Muslim crackpots of the far right will be celebrating — people like Pamela Geller and Robert Spencer — because Bolton has been part of their circles of bigotry for many years.

Bolton has also been agitating for war with Iran for a long time, and as one of Trump’s top advisers he may finally get his disastrous wish.

Trump’s actions remain completely consistent with at least three models:

1) Trump is a man-baby intent only on surrounding himself with fawning sycophants and on gratifying his impulses of that particular second.

2) Trump is an agent of pure evil, whose every action is calculated to bring the maximum possible amount of misery to people in the US and worldwide.

3) Trump is an agent of Putin, whose every action is calculated to minimize US influence in international affairs in the future, and if the plan goes maximally well to see the US become an international pariah state because of an unjustified first use of nukes.

Some positive news:

Three University of Puerto Rico students spending their spring semester at Wesleyan University said they have settled in to their temporary home in Middletown.

Like dozens of their fellow students, they made the difficult decision last year to leave behind families still recovering from the devastation of Hurricane Maria in order to keep up with their studies.

Wesleyan is one of several institutions in the state to pitch in and give Puerto Rican students a stable setting so they don’t fall behind.

Eriam Manautou Martinez, 22, Vianca Perez Betancourt, 18, and Ana Rodriguez Santory, 20, said the semester away from home has been a challenge, but they’re welcomed by everyone they meet.

Only military personnel require confirmation to the position due to statutory requirements of active duty personnel serving in the civilian government.

Civilians do not require Senate approval. For example, Susan Rice did not require approval under President Obama.

In a way you have to feel how exasperated Mueller must feel. Just as he thinks he is winding up an investigation, boom, more information comes out that he has to further investigate.

Look at the foundation of journalism. Identifying the Who, What, When, Where and How of the story.

We know Who - the trump campaign plus others like the RNC and now CA
We know How - monkey fucking the American public’s perception of the candidates and issues.
We know When - before, during, and after the 2016 elections
We know Where - certain States where media/social manipulation could effect election results
And now we know How - through CA’s use of Facebook data to determine and drive certain issues and points of view as a way to effect election outcomes

Mueller may have so many indictments that for trials to be timely they will have to be held in multiple Federal District Courts.

P.S. - I have Federal District Court Jury duty from mid April until mid May. Maybe I can get lucky and catch one of these trials.

When my wife and I were at our dine-out last night in Cheyenne, the restaurant had two sports channels and CNN playing. One segment on CNN was discussing the Playboy model and Stormy Daniels. (The sound on the TV was muted, so I’m not sure what the point was of even having it on.)

The others there, all staunch conservatives (because Wyoming) had no idea what this was about. They asked both of us to explain the situations of the two women, because as far as they knew, the women are trying to “cash in at Trump’s expense.”

We explained the two cases and what they represented … and then one of them insulted my wife by calling her a “liberal.”

“How dare you? I’m a Libertarian! Just because they both start with lib- doesn’t mean they are the same thing!” she exclaimed.

(She might be a Libertarian as in party member, but she holds mostly liberal opinions. She wasn’t about to vote for Johnson/Weld in the last election with Trump in the running - she went with Clinton/Kaine.)

I pointed out to her “you know, you can run against me in the next election, and see what the town thinks.” (Being how three seats are up, and seats go to the top vote-getters, that could conceivably cause both of us to be on the board.)

And just when I thought I couldn’t be more disgusted—somehow I missed this little tidbit from early on in the bombing story:

Then, police treated House like a suspect in his own death.

“We can’t rule out that Mr. House didn’t construct this himself and accidentally detonate it,” APD Assistant Chief Joseph Chacon told reporters at the time, noting that there was no continuing threat to the public.

“I do not believe that we have someone going around leaving packages like this,” he said.

thedailybeast.com

And why, oh why, do they continue to use a four-year old photo of the “lovesick” Maryland shooter (in which he looks about 9) instead of more recent pics. I guess we can now call him the lovesick killer as I just read that they are taking the girl he shot, Jaelynn Willey, off of life support.

At this rate of churn, Trump will burn through Jim Hoft and Lucian Wintrich as cabinet officials toward the end of his first term. If, god forbid, Trump gets a second term, cabinet positions will be determined via a selection process seeing who on Free Republic and r/TheDonald can most enthusiastically worship Trump. Final selections will require an in-person demonstration of willingness to serve.

So, what does she think the difference is between a libertarian holding liberal opinions and a Democrat?

I’m not sure. She was once a campaign treasurer for a Libertarian US House candidate in Colorado (before I met her, a fellow named Keith Hamburger). I think the issue is she’d rather retain the title of a third party member.

She holds many of the same political positions I do (and for the same reason). I think her positions have changed on fiscal issues and taxation as she grew older.

For this election cycle, we received a bumper sticker in the mail this morning she requested for Democratic US Senate candidate Jane Raybould. She’s already decided she won’t support the LP candidate for the US Senate (one has not announced as far as I can determine yet).

To the amazement of nobody, Bolton was a Vietnam chickenhawk:

During the 1969 Vietnam War draft lottery, Bolton drew number 185. (Draft numbers corresponded to birth dates.) As a result of the Johnson and Nixon administrations’ decisions to rely largely on the draft rather than on the reserve forces, joining a Guard or Reserve unit became a way to avoid service in the Vietnam War. Bolton enlisted in the Maryland Army National Guard in 1970 rather than wait to find out if his draft number would be called. (The highest number called to military service was 195.) After serving in the National Guard for four years, he served in the United States Army Reserve until the end of his enlistment two years later. He wrote in his Yale 25th reunion book “I confess I had no desire to die in a Southeast Asian rice paddy. I considered the war in Vietnam already lost.”

He had run his school’s Students for Goldwater campaign in 1964.

My wife comes to every village board meeting. She was at the last one where we were discussing the purchase of new road gravel for our village streets, and how much it will cost (along with hiring a grader to spread it out). The insanely expensive project to pave the block between my house and church was tabled (with me abstaining because the project would benefit us, being our street).

As the public librarian, with our public library primarily dependent on funding from the village board, she had to make arguments before the board why she needed money for computers, books, &c.

I think she is really a LINO (Libertarian in name only).

Between Bolton being in at NSA for Trump and Guccifer being outed as a Russian GRU agent, I’m neither surprised nor shocked.

Trump has nowhere else to turn. No one wants to work in his chaotic regime and Trump doesn’t trust anyone who doesn’t tell Trump what he wants to hear.

Bolton fits that bill. Trump wants to blow stuff up and doesn’t care about the consequences. He has no one who will tell him no, because he doesn’t want to hear no for an answer.

Guccifer being a Russia agent, however, is the more interesting story since it again links back to Russia and how Trump sought out Russia and others to hack his political enemies and deliver dirt.

Russia delivered it about the DNC via their Wikileaks cutout. The hints that this was a Russian op were there all along, but they slipped up and it became crystal clear today.

Russia is playing Wikileaks and has been all along. They use them as a cutout and have been doing so all along.

Chinese bakeries and supermarkets are still working on the 1950s model of Western style bread. I have seen “brown bread” here, but it’s not whole wheat bread AFAI can tell. It tastes like white bread that’s been darkened somehow. If you want whole wheat, rye or a baguette, you have to visit a Western supermarket with its own bakery.

Chinese bakeries are also firmly convinced that bread must be sweet, like cake. At my last job, I got a bread machine just to cope with my bread withdrawal. I may buy a new one for my current flat.

The Business Plot was an attempt to install fascism over FDR.

The problem I’ve always had with the business plot story is that I can’t believe the businessmen would have been stupid enough to pick Smedley Butler as the military leader for such an adventure.

Smedley Butler is the author of ‘War is a Racket’. From Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org

After Butler retired from the Marine Corps, he made a nationwide tour in the early 1930s giving his speech “War is a Racket”. The speech was so well received that he wrote a longer version as a short book published in 1935. His work was condensed in Reader’s Digest as a book supplement, which helped popularize his message. In an introduction to the Reader’s Digest version, Lowell Thomas praised Butler’s “moral as well as physical courage”. Thomas had written Butler’s oral autobiography.

I think he has to be fired for “good cause.” Of which there isn’t going to be one-in any event I believe it would have to end up in court.

Damage will be done, Mueller would be shut down and it would be one of those “sue to get your job back” cases.

Trump will destroy the rule of law and make himself above the law with the GOP being willing accomplices.

China: We Will Fight a Trade War “To The End” (CNN):

“China would fight to the end to defend its own legitimate interests with all necessary measures,” China’s embassy in Washington said in a statement late Thursday. “China is not afraid of and will not recoil from a trade war.”

President Trump announced earlier that his administration would impose tariffs on $50 billion of Chinese exports to the United States to retaliate against Chinese theft of intellectual property, including software and patents. The administration will also restrict Chinese investment in the United States.

The statement from the Chinese embassy said Trump’s trade action was “self-defeating” and would hurt American companies, consumers and financial markets.

Rant.

This veteran’s rant about arming teachers is going viral.

This veteran being me, of course. Seems some clickbait site called Bored Panda picked up a thread I wrote on Twitter and declared it a rant. I think they meant it as a compliment, but I can’t help but feel like John Goodman at the end of Atomic Blonde, “Cocksucker? Really?”

Bored Panda wasn’t the only one. My comments appeared on a number of sites and have been shared on Twitter itself thousands of times and viewed by more than 1.4 million people.

276
Anymouse 🌹  Mar 22, 2018 • 8:15:48pm

As far as a cop mentioning terrorism: That crime has a specific definition in the law.

Colloquially, we see a bombing campaign as terrorism. The law does not see it that way, so a police officer is not going to relate it that way.

I agree the media does an awful job portraying white people versus other ethnic groups when describing crimes.

Sometimes they do good jobs though. On NPR’s “All Things Considered” yesterday, they briefly described the bomber without using such things as “lone wolf” or “troubled kid” and when they finished with the facts of the case, they went into long descriptions of the victims’ lives. The victims of the crimes got much more attention from NPR than the bomber.

Unfortunately, most of the media has a product to sell. I don’t know how to fix that without about $100Billion to buy a media outlet.

In the mean time, the bill will have the intended effect of chilling free speech on the Internet for fear that a website will find itself facing civil or even criminal charges for something a random poster said. We can look forward to more stories about websites clamping down tighter on user comments or even shuttering those features altogether.

Minority: “He smoked a joint once! He talked back to his teachers! He shoved somebody on a bus! He was a bad seed and the parents are to blame! If they’d have raised him right, he wouldn’t have given that cop a reason to shoot him!”

White: “This was a troubled young man whose actions were an outcry for help! He turned to drugs and violence as an outlet for his troubled mind! If only people had seen, he might have gotten the help he needed! His parents are as much victims of his actions as the people he blew up! How dare you blame them for his tragic end?!”

“Why do I imagine him as not only riding that tiger but with a monkey on his back?”

I’m imagining him rolling around in an empty barrel.

I had to Google that. I’d love to discover that part of the country.

The famous Shaolin Temple is not far from here, and there are several important historical sites around Henan, too.

re: #262 Anymouse 🌹

Sometimes the “white guy” trope gets old. The overwhelming majority of us white guys have never desired to do any such thing (see also the “veteran” trope, “mentally ill” trope, &c).

Do white guys seem to be the large majority of such killers? Yes. Hashtag NotAllWhiteGuys.

But perhaps we need to ask ourselves, What is it about White culture that keeps producing this violence?
- Maybe it’s in the lyrics of their “Country Music”, where bad thing after bad thing befalls them.
- Maybe it’s in their clothes, the Dockers cinched tight around their waists.
- Maybe it’s in their slang - “run and gun”, “shooting the rapids”, “hot as a pistol”.
- Maybe it’s in their Powerpoint presentations, with all those “bullet points”.

Why does the White Community so often choose hustlers and conmen as leaders?

Hey, you’re white - tell my why your people keep doing this over and over again, killing their own people?
