Anyone else see the news today that Google has succeeded in building an AI bot that used “Ums” and “Uhs” and pauses while talking to you, so as to make it indistinguishable from a real person?
Look for that showing up in the damn robo-calls soon.

Trump was not “confused” about military pay.
He knows that the lie is what his base hears and believes. He is evil to his core and damaging our country with every day he or his party is in control.
We have all repeated information we’ve heard from elsewhere that turns out to be false. The danger is that his falsehoods sink into our country’ psyche so that the majority believes them to be true.

Chinese food mostly stands on its own, and rice is kind of a filler. With Indian cuisine, the rice complements the flavor and rounds out the dish. Biryani, specifically, is considered a complete meal in itself.

You won’t regret it. As an aside: With real Indian biryani, it is usually served with two sauces. The yogurt-based sauce, which is white, is meant to cool it off if it is too spicy. The other sauce is meant to heat it up if you need more spice and flavor.

The meats are generally determined when you order (like you can get chicken outer lamb biryani Which is a great rice dish.) The sauce is basically what you order.
Korma is a whitish, cream sauce. Usually mild and delicious.
Jogan Rosh is a red tomato based sauce. As is Masala. Both are good. chana Masala is chickpeas in red sauce. Delish.
Vindaloo is very spicy. Very good but very spicy.
Pakora are fried bits of whatever (fish, veggies) kinda like tempura but heavier.
Samosas are veggie or meat and veggie “pies”. Also very good. The plum sauce (ish) is great with them.
Naan bread is awesome. So is kultcha (my personal favorite). Paneer kultcha is cheese bread. To. Die. For. (Not at all like American/Italian cheese bread. Their cheese is kinda like dry cottage cheese but more flavorful.)
Those are some of my favs.

That kind of stuff annoys me. Someone is too wonky or they don’t give specifics enough. I’d rather have someone talk to me about politics and current events someone like HRC or Rachel than Trump or one of the right wing hosts. I never liked Ed Schultz because although he was left wing, he definitely acted more like the former right wing talk show he was at the time and now is again on RT.

Rachel repeats and repeats and repeats stuff because she knows how well that has worked for the conservative media. re: #63 BlueGrl21
Ok, Lizards, throwing this out there since we love food in general.
I am going to India again in a couple of weeks. The past times I’ve gone I’ve basically eaten breakfast and dinner at my very Western hotel and had protein bars for lunch. I am determined not to do that this time. I am going to eat what is around me.
I will be in Mumbai.
What’s your favorite Indian dish?
My personal favorite is sag paneer, which is a dense unaged cheese (paneer, which is almost tofu-like in it function) in chopped or pureed greens…usually spinach, but sometimes mustard greens, amaranth, etc.
But if you’re in Mumbai, consider:
- South Indian vegetarian meals. Usually served at restaurants that reference Udupi in the name or description. It’s a fixed meal served on a palm leaf—a thin lentil curry (sambar), a peppery soup (rasam), and yoghurt plus lots of rice. Not actually something I like much, but as a cultural experience it’s maybe worth looking at. There’s also dosa—big thin crispy pancakes served with chutney and other filling (general wrapped up) that I actually think taste good, and there’s a ton of versions of what you put in them.
South Indian is flipping heavy, though. Prepare for carb shock.
- Parsi food. It’s Persian cuisine, displaced and altered to the locality over generations. Parsi is more fruity than most subcontinent cuisine so there’s stuff like Salli Boti (lamb with apricots, finished with potato straws). Parsi’s also good for sweets(for desert or for tea or a snack…specifically Lagan Nu Custard) or breakfast (Akoori…Parsi scrambled eggs).
Bohri Muslim cuisine. This is pretty much the sweet spot if you like meat curries with rich gravy and kebabs. There an area called Mohalla that’s the Muslim food street. Though given how things are right now, maybe see if there’s been any issues with harassment…butchers and meat-eaters are being targeted as part of Hindu nationalist actions.
Konkan food—coastal cuisine—and Maharastrian food—Bombay being the capital of Maharastra. Lots of coconut and red chilies, lots of sea food, including “Bombay duck” (bombil, a local fish fried in chickpea flour batter). Malvani dishes—usually “chicken malvani” or with black lentils or mutton are all variations on the same (tasty) theme. As single dishes go, look for kori gassi…coconut chicken curry.
There’s a ton of regional street food and food. Curries served with pav (a soft roll) are common and highly variable in makeup, but generally there’s pav bhaji and misal pav meals. Ragda pattice—pea stew with potato patties and garnishes—is good. There’s also about eight millions versions of fried stuff
That’s also a tenable position.

Especially if he can make the difference between her being confirmed and not. I don’t know where we are since Manchin is a confirmed yes right ow unfortunately.

My karma is 31258 (well a minute ago anyway)
It’s as unique a number as any other
Why are only round numbers milestones?
I’ll give you another upding when you get to 31415.

Trump told military spouses today that he’s proud to have given servicemembers pay raises for the “first time in 10 years.” They’ve received raises every year for at least 30 years, Military Times reports. https://t.co/R2HXZjyp5y

I miss their forums so much. I didn’t participate but I loved the obscure entertainment jewels you could find on there.
e.g
Q- Hey, anyone know what song that 2 second snippet was from in episode 34 from 1982.
A- I do. My uncle worked on that show and told me…I used to get lost in there for hours.
Same here. I was heartbroken when I saw they were going to take all that offline.

I wonder what the site traffic has been like since the change. I hardly go there anymore and I surely don’t stay long when I do.
What a way to unite the warring factions in Syria… trading rockets with Israel.

Yeah I just look at reviews or who was in what but the comments were great. Comment sections usually suck but IMDb had a good one.

Is he well enough to do so?
Gabby Giffords managed to do it for the ACA vote.
So did Robert Byrd.

Which is to their credit. I just have no idea what condition McCain is in, or if it would make a difference.
re: #251 Backwoods_Sleuth
and will he bother to go to DC to vote “no”?
His vote wouldn’t necessarily matter. If there are 50 votes to confirm, he can go and vote “no” and force the Vice President to break the tie. But if there are 50 votes against without him, then his vote wouldn’t change anything. This is a slightly different calculus than the ACA repeal

We need a wall chart.
A really big wall chart.
For example, I had to google “John Barron” because I forgot that was one of Trump’s aliases.
I just found out about Maye Musk, Elon’s mom, a couple days ago.
What a fascinating woman.

A glioblastoma is a devastating necrotic tumor. If he’s talking about his imminent death and who should be there, he probably is within a few weeks of stepping on a rainbow.
I wouldn’t expect him to hire a private jet to fly him to D.C. and cast a vote.
The last days of anyone with a GB are just awful. Your brain is, literally, rotting out from the inside. It’s like pulling breakers on a fuse box and shutting down the power system on a building.

Happy I always had Buchanan at the bottom of the President list with Andrew Johnson and Dumbya tied for 2nd from worst just above him. But I got to admit that Trump is such an asshole that he makes Buchanan look like Superman.

White graduate student calls police on black student sleeping in Yale dorm https://t.co/0v4Uq5hOgP pic.twitter.com/FHZNd2CXUe
— CBS News (@CBSNews) May 10, 2018
” A white graduate student at Yale called police on a black graduate student who had fallen asleep in a common area of their campus residence — an episode that a dean said shows the need for efforts to make the Ivy League university a more inclusive place. Lolade Siyonbola posted two videos of Monday’s encounter on her Facebook page, including part of a conversation with the white student who told her she was calling police after finding her on a couch in the room at Yale’s Hall of Graduate Studies on the New Haven campus.
After questioning Siyonbola for more than 15 minutes, police confirmed she was a Yale student who lived in the building and then left. Police told her the encounter was prolonged because her name was not spelled correctly in a database of student information. …”

Anymouse brought this up when Stormy Daniels came to the scene, and I think it’s a salient point: Pornography is one of very few vocations where women make more money than men.
I’ve always said that’s why the Religious Right was so down on it.
