The false binary of capitulation vs. total war.
It was how Hitler got Britain and France to give him Czechoslovakia: “Give me the territory I want or prepare for war.” And since neither nation had the popular support for war, they bowed down to his demands.
The hilarity of the situation is (of course) that the wingnuts want us to believe that war with Russia is so undesirable that remove all obstacles in Donny’s path is preferable, BUT we’re also supposed to believe that he’s so much “tougher” on Russia than any president since St. Ron.

Bookmaker increases chances of Trump being impeached after Putin summit
The chances that President Trump will be impeached are rising, according to one Irish bookmaker, one day after Trump refused to denounce Russian meddling in the 2016 election following a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Paddy Power increased the likelihood of Trump being impeached on Tuesday from 8-1 to 2-1, according to Yahoo News. The news outlet first reported that the betting company also increased the likelihood of Trump being impeached this year, from 12-1 to 8-1.
“After the carnage of the last few days, we’ve seen plenty of punters Putin money on Trump’s impeachment again — although I’m sure they’ll soon get a message, in Russian, urging them to stop,” a Paddy Power spokesman told Yahoo News.(emphasis added ;)

Good morning. Advocacy starts early here.
From my FB
Years ago I would argue for a Bush (did not fly to Iran on SR 71) or later Obama, mostly against that birther garbage. At the time it was easy to defend any of those Presidents without comparison to any previous. You just did not hear or see “but Nixon!” One just laid out the facts as known and had at it. With those that defend Trump, it’s most often nothing but a comparison to what is now an imaginary scenario. HRC winning. Or fictionalized views of recent history under Obama. As a lifelong political activist and observer, it’s fascinating to see such a huge house built upon a sands of time foundation

Yes, Putin has something on Trump: He helped him win. That’s the kompromat.

OK: IANAL, this (decision? opinion? suggestion?) looks to me like it could be read two ways. If the question is illegal foreign donations to political campaigns, does “defendants” here mean “foreigners” or “Americans”? If the former, it makes vague sense, sorta/maybe, even if a lame exculpation (IMO), and the usual GOP bullshit. If the latter, it sounds like, basically, “ignorance of the law is a valid excuse”: and yeah, Kavanaugh should explain this. In detail.

Cannot be too optimistic, but up to now, GOP strategy counted on him pulling in a solid 30% of active voters. That left them only needing another 20% or so of active voters to guarantee them a majority.
I think that solid 30% is now not as solid or reliable as it was before Helsinki.

1. IMPORTANT: Among the many outrages in Helsinki, Trump appears to have bought (or been suckered) into providing fuel to Putin’s animus for former US Ambassador to Russia Mike @McFaul. The Administration needs to kill this outrageous proposal before it gets any legs.

This is the problem. Nothing about yesterday was a surprise or hard to understand. It’s been clear for at least two years that they are partners. How any observers could be puzzled is, well, puzzling.
As I said yesterday…Helsinki’s private two hour meeting is collusion. So, Trump and Putin have been in a secretive/private collaborative partnership all along. Ongoing collusion.

An amazing band of that time. And Jaz Coleman is an extremely talented man - he disbanded KJ in 1982 and announced he was going to become a classical composer. And damned if he didn’t go ahead and do it!
He and KJ’s bass player Youth did a series of symphonic treatments of rock, including Led Zeppelin, The Doors and Pink Floyd. His original classical compositions have been compared to those of Mahler.
Bass player Martin Glover (AKA Youth) became a pretty well-known producer in his own right, working with everyone from Kate Bush to Guns N’Roses.
Their songs have been covered by both Metallica and Foo Fighters. The Foos have been doing this one live.
KJ’s catalog is well worth diving into. They were fearless, crossing musical boundaries with ease. I’m so looking forward to seeing them, as I never got a chance when they were around the first time.

So, Colours of Ostrava, a four-day music festival, has begun today. I went by the area on the tram home, and it was packed to the gills. Last year, we had a crowd of about 200,000 or so. Looks like it’ll be the same this year - but it’s raining and windy and hardly the best weather, so I’m thinking attendance might be down a bit.
All the hotels and hostels are completely booked - not just in Ostrava, but in a 20 kilometer radius of Ostrava as well.
Here’s a photogallery from last year:

So riddle me this, if I’m being too sensitive over a trivial issue or if I have the moral high ground here:
If someone tells you they had a shitty day and in a bad mood, you express empathy and ask them what’s wrong. The person obviously sees your message, but doesn’t respond, so you follow up a little later to see if they’re alright. That person doesn’t respond, yet that person has no problem sharing posts, commenting, and “liking” posts on Facebook like crazy. It’s been a couple of days since, so hence why I’m curious on what you guys think.

I’m getting sick and tired of being sick and tired with all the media pieces on how DJT needs to reach out to his Dem opponents….oh wait, there aren’t any of those pieces, are there?
The media has always treated DJT as if he won an LBJ-Reagan 60 percent landslide and always treated Obama like he’d won 40% in a five candidate runoff.

Oh, I would say Person 1 is in some serious trouble. I am sure he will be super happy to share a cell with Manafort so they can exchange some “If Only” and “What If” discussions.

Not sure I want it hidden but it speaks to something really alarming to me. A very thoughtful and troubling response.
I think a lot of it goes to “DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM?” which is an expectation that anything and everything they’ve ever said is A-Ok. Though, that said, I find this coming from a pretty young person troubling.
Some white people confound me. And I am white. I don’t get it no matter how hard I look. What makes people so hateful? Especially white people that have succeeded? What is the need to put others down when you have “arrived”? I can understand the psychology of making a scapegoat when you’re a failure and cannot accept your own failings as a reason (I don’t agree but I understand the psychosis behind it), but when you’re arriving or arrived…why?

You touched on something important. I think the environments part of the equation is an important dynamic too. I mean, when white folks are among themselves or in what they think is a ‘safe’ space they can let it all fly. We all know it happens a lot. And because half my family is white they know and have had plenty of those interactions. Because people don’t even stop to think that these white people might have black or gay or immigrant family members or that their fellow whites might be very educated in anti-racism. So then, those environments and safe spaces get pushed into public because what’s the purpose of having your privilege if you can’t take it out for a spin and flaunt it. Claiming the public domain is an important part of the system.

In cities and counties across the country — including Little Rock, Ark.; Phoenix, Ariz.; southeast Michigan; central Utah; and here in Tennessee — the Koch brothers are fueling a fight against public transit, an offshoot of their longstanding national crusade for lower taxes and smaller government.
The Kochs’ opposition to transit spending stems from their longstanding free-market, libertarian philosophy. It also dovetails with their financial interests, which benefit from automobiles and highways.

McCain will always be a dick to me but he can redeem himself by making his last days hell for Trump.
re: #524 makeitstop
Judging by the part of the affidavit about her offering to do the nasty in order to get into some organization, I’d wager that she’s got tapes of herself in bed with many, many senators, congressmen and lobbyists. Remember, Nunes scotched her appearance before his committee.
She’s walking, talking kompromat.
Getting between the sheets is an old HUMINT tactic. Perhaps one of the oldest.
I wouldn’t be surprised if she’s got video of affairs.
Better find ‘em and air ‘em.

Of course, it’s the FPO.
What’s the FPÖ’s plan? Little yellow stars that say “Jude”?

I bet Nunes, Rohrabacher, & LaPierre starred.

MORE: Asked whether Pres. Trump thought Russia was still targeting the U.S., Sanders says “Since there’s currently not an election today, not specifically.”
She added the Trump administration is taking steps to prevent future meddling, “unlike previous administrations.” https://t.co/iYVCynTUud— ABC News Politics (@ABCPolitics) July 18, 2018

Yeah I was thinking the same thing.
There was a Twitter thread yesterday with photos of her with everyone from LaPierre to Santorum, and in some pretty high-altitude conferences.
Odds that she screwed at least some of them? Very high.
WH press sec Sanders acknowledged that Putin talked to Trump about his interest in prosecuting financier Bill Browder and former US ambassador Michael McFaul. she declined to rule out US cooperation in that effort, saying Trump would consult his national security team

Sarah, we’re not as stupid as your Dad’s jokes. Don’t complain about being asked to leave restaurants if you’re going to continue be a shameless liar.

McFaul needs to leave the country. His own Gov’t can’t be trusted right now.

Browder looks very smart for renouncing his citizenship

More like a little sidestep (although Charles Durning was at least 100 times the man that the yam is.)

I’m a poor boy, come to greatness. So, it follows that I cannot tell a lie
Ooh I love to dance a little sidestep, now they see me now they don’t
I’ve come and gone and, ooh I love to sweep around the wide step
Cut a little swathe and lead the people on

The American discussed in the indictment of Russian spy Maria Butina allegedly gave her access to organizations in exchange for sex. Looks like there will be an arrest of this Russian collaborator soon. https://t.co/YIxIj8wLiF
