I personally think we’re gonna stomp pretty hard on Trump, and he’ll either try to barricade the White House or attempt to flee.

As for keeping this from happening again, we’re going to have to do a lot of work fixing things that are broken, and keep electing Democrats. 2022 cannot be 2010.

No more true “subtropical” climates, because at some point every year, the polar jet stream sags so far south as to allow polar air to reach about 24 degrees latitude.

You’d think that one would at least stick with Rs since they like things that only subtropic climates will be able to provide, especially since actual tropics will be death-to-humanity.

So, in the latest news regarding the 2019-nCoV virus (which for brevity’s sake, I will call it the Wuhan Virus):

Chinese authorities have advised people to stop travel into and out of Wuhan, the city at the centre of a new virus outbreak that has killed nine.

Those living in the city of 11 million people have also been told to avoid crowds and minimise public gatherings.

The new virus has spread from Wuhan to several Chinese provinces, as well as the US, Thailand and South Korea.

There are 440 confirmed cases, with the origin a seafood market that “conducted illegal transactions of wild animals”.

“Basically, do not go to Wuhan. And those in Wuhan please do not leave the city,” said National Health Commission vice-minister Li Bin in one of the first public briefings since the beginning of the outbreak.

Authorities also admitted that the country was now at the “most critical stage” of prevention and control.

This is a new coronavirus strain, with airborne human-to-human transmission. Obviously, at this point, it’s about containment…..and this is happening at the worst possible time, right during Lunar New Year, which is the largest annual human migration on the planet.

The mortality rate seems to be around 2%, mostly the elderly or the immunocompromised. At least it’s not something out of some apocalyptic sci-fi novel or film (say, 50% to 60% or higher) so I guess that’s some bit of good news; that being said, Chinese authorities are worried about the possibility of the virus mutating, which is a legit concern as viruses are notorious for that. And if you run the numbers, in a global pandemic scenario, you’d still be looking at tens of millions dead worldwide so let’s keep our fingers crossed.

Dems are forcing these doomed votes — to subpoena Mulvaney, etc — for a reason.

The reason:

If they fail to get witnesses later, they will have put the most vulnerable GOP senators (Collins, etc) on the record opposing testimony from material witnesses

I understand that Politico must see this from all sides, and therefore never acknowledge this… but Democrats have no way forward with this impeachment as long as almost all Senate Republicans stand together and won’t acknowledge presidential wrong-doing.

But what happened yesterday, and especially last night was the House leadership was able to put forward, with specificity a huge amount of evidence, even evidence that the Senate doesn’t want to acknowledge, and force it into the public. McConnell will happily continue to ignore this… but everyone watching realized there was no response from the president’s counsel. No response at all.

There was a tacit admission, by Senate Republican leadership, and the Presidents counsel that other than the House’s submission of subpoena’s in a way the president didn’t like… there was nothing wrong with the impeachment evidence. It was sooo damning that no one knew what to say… beyond…

I see what my freshman Congresswoman is doing on Twitter. She’s focusing on a lot of issues. The work of the House has gone on since impeachment. Mitch even admits this. He loves to brag about how everything The House has passed, he has prevented a vote on. The real do nothings are Mitch who has never met Democratic legislation he hasn’t wanted to obstruct and Trump who is a lazy piece of shit who spends his Presidency tweeting either bragging about himself or whining. When he goes, people are going to see what a well adjusted individual in the oval office looks like and hopefully give the GOP exile from the WH.

1) Ted Cruz might. But we’ve seen just as many ignorant SOBs in Congress with that magic (R). Gohmert comes to mind particularly.

2) Devin Nunes. And hell, the GOP fell in line behind Russia real damn quick once they realized Putin was someone they could rely on to consolidate their power at home. Not talking just about potential pres candidates, but the GOP as a whole.

3) This I might give you, but at the same time, we’re seeing the mass amount of self-enrichment in the GOP caucuses to where it’s obvious if they had the chance, they’d be doing the exact same as Trump, whether it was inspired by Trump’s successful mendacity or just because they’re already doing it in their own seats as current.

Trump is not unique, he is the absolute logical outgrowth of the GOP’s path of greed and bad faith. We need to remind ourselves this so we don’t kid ourselves that removing Trump is the end of it.

To another extent, I think we’re in another Cold War where we’re not fighting over Capitalism versus Communism but democracy/pluralism versus dictatorship/nationalism. I really think that’s why so many American liberals have embraced Chancellor Merkel for example because as much as I disagree like hell with austerity politics, she is a Democrat and she wants Europe and the world to be an inclusive place.

Down here in The Woodlands, TX. in 2016, I saw more yard signs for Beto than any other Democrat running for any office (including dog catcher) in the 20+ years I’ve lived and worked here. My area, while conservative, is a micro example of the country at large - white, educated women that absolutely hate Trump with a passion. The men are probably more 65/35 repulsed at Trump, but the thought of paying an extra 2-3% points in income tax will prevent them from supporting any Democrat. The women are hopefully going to save this country in November.
