Regarding the Foxconn con, I work in public-private economic development. In terms of state programs to assist rural communities in attracting new business or help existing ones expand, there are average wage and full-time job maintenance guidelines that must be adhered to. This is to protect both the business and the local government entity from facing clawback provisions.

At the state level, there have been instances where companies have made promises that didnā€™t pan out, then ducked away. Dell Computer is a classic case here in NC.

Rush Limbaugh Delivers Emotional Update on His Battle With Lung Cancer: ā€˜The Days Where I Do Not Think Iā€™m Under a Death Sentence Are Overā€™

Limbaugh said Monday the scans showed the cancer had grown after an initial period of dormancy.

ā€œThe scans did show some progression of cancer,ā€ Limbaugh said. ā€œPrior that, the scans had shown that we had rendered the cancer dormant. Thatā€™s my phrase for it. We had stopped the growth. It had been reduced, and it had become manageable. But itā€™s always the reality, and the knowledge, that that can change and it can come back, because it is cancer. It outsmarts pretty much everything you throw at it. And this, of course, this is stage 4 lung cancer.

Good fucking riddanceā€¦.

Ray Bradburyā€™s ā€œThe Nine Billion Names of God,ā€ for example, isnā€™t a happy ending, but it is the logical outcome of the plot and it is unforgettable.

Hereā€™s a recap of my trip to Vermont with my son (age 24).

The foliage was a little disappointing. Our AirBNB host says that Southern Vermont is experiencing a drought and this causes the trees to not change to the dark reds/oranges that we love. Global warming strikes again, but foliage is always uncertain. Pics below (not in love with the quality, but getting used to cameraā€¦.).

Vermont is wearing masks. Indoor seating is happening, but less tables. Keene, NH requires mass. I hear that the rest of NH is not as compliant (fuck libertarians).

Rules/laws broken during trip.
1) Speeding
2) purchasing legal weed in MA and bringing it home to NYC.
3) Purchasing knife in NH that is not legal in NYC.
4) Purchasing untaxed alcohol in NH and bringing it back to NYC.
In other words, fantastic trip.

And not to mention the fact that the NY Post is a Murdoch property - maybe not ā€œFox Newsā€ per se; but a print product of the same sleazy ā€œfamilyā€ of RW hacks. So ā€œpassed on the storyā€ is disingenuous bullshit. Like everything else.

Actually, this seems to me to be more of standard British, rather than American practice: leaking/floating some BS ā€œscandalā€ story in a tabloid rag, then having ā€œseriousā€ TV news pick it up, and, moderately descented, go on to flog the tale in another mediumā€¦

Keeneā€™s a pretty great town. I was in the Finger Lakes last week (hence my limited posting). The foliage was pretty good, but not as spectacular as some years.

Of course, I picked up a couple cases of wine, so Iā€™m good for the winter lockdown.

You know, the thing that annoyed me about the debates, now that I think about it more, is the swing and a miss that both Biden and Harris had on the ā€œwhat would you have done differently?ā€ question. Why canā€™t they say:

1. we would have fully staffed and funded the CDCā€™s efforts in China so that we (and the world) would have had a better understanding of what was happening sooner

2. we would have worked with the WHO, including using WHO testing kits early on

3. we would have coordinated production and sale of ventilators and PPE among the states so that instead of competing and driving up the costs, we could have saved taxpayer money

4. we would have invoked the defense production authorization act earlier in order to produce ventilators and PPE

5. we would have sought a national mask mandate when it became clear that masks helped slow the spread

Thatā€™s all simple shit that doesnā€™t even get us to nationwide quarantine - and all stuff that would have helped.

re: #27 Dave In Austin

Trumpā€™s always projecting like IMAX. Heā€™s doing what he claims Biden did (and thereā€™s zero credible evidence Biden did anything wrong).

All the while, Trumpā€™s family profited from decisions Trump made - whether it was trademarks from China, directing tax relief specifically to Trump related businesses, pressuring the Federal Reserve to drop interest rates right at the time Trump needed to get a massive break as his loans were coming due, or directing over $100 million in taxpayer funds to Trumpā€™s golf and hotel businesses by staying at those businesses endlessly or insisting on GOP attend Trump businesses to keep them afloat.

It was all about Trump personally profiting. Not once did he put the nationā€™s interests first.

Itā€™s a cannon Rebel. never going back to film. Never.

Thatā€™s a decent body. You might want to consider investing in other lenses though, the kit lens I had with the last Rebel I had was meh. OTOH, the 50/1.8 is stupid cheap and exquisite. Iā€™m doing Nikon digital these days so I donā€™t have any Canon glass any more.

It came with two lenses. Did not even break out the telephoto. The goal was to do some walks in the woods with son and that was accomplished. And get away from it all. Iā€™m just happy to be happy to walk, post covid. Iā€™m still short of breath going uphill, but was able to do It!!!!

The 50/1.8 is one of the great wonders of photography. Incredibly cheap and great for portraiture.

I currently shoot with a 18-70 2.8. On occasion Iā€™ll shoot with 8-16 wide angle or a 28-300 if I need the zoom for wildlife.

On top of just how fucking disgusting it is that these shitmuffins are using Hunterā€™s addiction as some awful scandal, the really messed up thing here, the truly evil and fucked up part, the part they are hoping for is this:

I am not sure how far along Hunter is in his recovery, but this fucking awfulness may just cause a relapse. Or worse.

I am SO beyond tired of their fucking default mode being pure evil. They only believe in retribution and punishment. Addicts belong in jail, they deserve what they get, we coddle them too much, addiction doesnā€™t happen in ā€œgoodā€ families, and on and on and on. Prisons are for torture, rape and punishment. Rehabilitation is some ā€œliberal cowardā€ way of dealing with what is in fact a mental health issue.

We are not a nation of good people with some moral high ground. And unless and until we face that and deal with it, these fucking beings with no redeeming human qualities will continue to wield entirely too much power and importance in our country and others who are trying to be like us. On Sunday, the 65-year-old was rushed to the Hadassah Medical Center in Jerusalem from his home in Jericho, in the occupied West Bank.

His condition was described as ā€œserious but stableā€, and he was given oxygen.

On Monday morning, the hospital said Mr Erekatā€™s condition had deteriorated and was ā€œnow defined as criticalā€.

ā€œDue to respiratory distress, he was put on a ventilator and placed in a medically induced coma,ā€ a statement added.

Have to say that if the doctors there manage to save Erekat that may do more to help improve relationships between the Israelis and the Palestinians than anything the Bibi administration has done over the past several years. Heā€™d expect Pence to fuck him over because thatā€™s what heā€™d do to Pence if the roles were reversed. At most, heā€™ll try to pardon himself, or he may just completely toddle off to La-La Land and pretend none of this is happening. If he doesnā€™t have a COVID relapse and/or stroke out.

Whether he fights like hell to cling to power, or slinks off to sulk at Mar-a-Lago for a couple of months, weā€™ll basically have a headless federal government for 11 weeks.

Pretty sure that thereā€™s no way that Trump can resign and force Pence to pardon him.

I donā€™t know where Penceā€™s head is right now - is he so far up Trumpā€™s ass that ā€œof course I willā€? Is he looking out for history or some future in politics? He acts the true believer, but up until this point heā€™s needed to if he wants to stay in his job.

If Pence wants Trumpā€™s blessing to run in 2024, he has to keep kissing Trumpā€™s ass.

TRUMP ATTACK ON MAIL IN BALLOTS HAS BACKFIRED BIG TIME

Trump was counting a lot of Voters mostly DEMS and IND voters voting by MAIL in the pandemic . This form of voting he could control and fuck with by

1 slow down the mail in ballot by changing the Post office ( which he did )

2 undermine the system with specious unfounded conspiracy driven rants ā€” which he has done and is STILL doing

3 legally contest ballots on technicalities and arriving AFTER the NOV 3 deadline ā€” which has has done already in a few states. If necessary go to the SC

BUT EARLY VOTING ?? THERE IS NO WAY TO STOP THAT.

30 MILLION VOTES ALREADY and the numbers are massive for the DEMs

if anything polls are UNDERDOING Democratic and IND voting turnout / estimates
These votes are in the bank !!!

The idiot trump has driven voters away from mail in ballots to EARLY voting which cannot be challenged

MOREOVER this places a lot less strain on states election systems [on 11/3].

Iā€™m gonna disagree: despite you and I (and most Lizards, Iā€™m sure) looking on Trumpā€™s foreign policy as an embarrassing shitshow, I think- as far as public opinion goes - itā€™s the one last vague, flimsy straw he has to cling on to to try to even remotely appear ā€œPresidentialā€, and heā€™s going to try - one would imagine - to flog it for everything itā€™s worth in a debate.

Of course, itā€™s likely to be the usual simpleminded boilerplate (ā€œI love Israel! I hate China! I love Saudi Arabia! I hate Iran!) and its mindless corollary (ā€œJoe hates Israel! Joe loves China! Joe hates the Saudis! Joe loves Iran!ā€) , plus the usual fan favorites about ā€œopen bordersā€ and ā€œMS-13 gang caravansā€ and whatever, but the big problem for Biden and rhe Democrats is that this shit plays well in the ā€œheartlandā€; and given that the ā€œMSMā€ is probably going to pathetically grasp at that same, last, pathetic straw as the last chance for a ā€œPresidential pivotā€, a FP-centered debate is not going to be the runaway it shouldā€¦

So the weird thing is, except in states where they cannot count mail ballots ahead of time (PA, kinda) record mail voting could in fact mean much FASTER calls.

If Biden was winning by 2% in these states, yeah, it would be the usual slog. But if heā€™s winning by 7%, or 10%, or more, and the mail ballots dump into the system immediately, states that usually are a mess may end up being easy to call within an hour.

edit - Iā€™ve been skeptical of the ā€œitā€™ll take a week!ā€ crowd from the beginning, and itā€™s really getting to the point where Iā€™m starting to see the long-count cheerleaders as carrying water for the Trump campaign. Itā€™ll take forever, so there must be something wrong with it. Or if it doesnā€™t take forever, then the Dems are cheating. Itā€™s just trying to discredit results they donā€™t like.

Itā€™s still a little crazy to me that you can win the EC by winning just 11 states. It used to be 13 states, I think, but population shifts have made it even fewer.

Yeah, likewise, and even with that, I worry that Trumpā€™s currently attempts to invalidate the election might gain some traction with his cronies and enablers, which is exactly what is happening with his latest escalation saying that both Joe and Hunter Biden should be arrested (and subsequently calling press members criminals for not pushing the narrative).

Even crazier, those 11 states still get to send only 22 Senators to the Senate, vs. 78 for everybody elseā€¦..

In contrast 24% of the US voting population choose 60% of the nationā€™s Senators.

Ossoff was up 7 points over Purdue as of yesterday. The Warnock/Loeffler/whothehellaretheseotherpeople race has Warnock ahead by 9-14 points depending on the poll. But Warnock needs 50 percent plus one to win and not face a runoff, so that one is less sure on Nov 4th when the votes are counted(hopefully). Iā€™m a bit more optimistic than I was a month ago, but both of these races are going to be too close for comfort. Turnout looks good, but this is the south and a lot of republicans do vote early and by mail, especially the seniors.

Joe loves Iran!ā€) , plus the usual fan favorites about ā€œopen bordersā€ and ā€œMS-13 gang caravansā€ and whatever, but the big problem for Biden and rhe Democrats is that this shit plays well in the ā€œheartlandā€; and given that the ā€œMSMā€ is probably going to pathetically grasp at that same, last, pathetic straw as the last chance for a ā€œPresidential pivotā€, a FP-centered debate is not going to be the runaway it shouldā€¦

discussing foreign policy requires depth of knowledge

- is Iran now closer to building a nuclear weapon
- how did pulling out of the Paris accord make the US seen by the rest of the world.
- what does NATO think of us
- why cant Americans go to other countries.
- how has tourism and college enrollment fallen way down because of Trumpā€™s policies and Covid-19.
- the trade deficit is at a record high, even though trump said he was going to cut it.
- this adminā€™s miserable failures in Syria.

- we can even go into Russias interference in our elections, and the current investigation into Russian dissemination of disinformation

- oh, want to bring up Hunter biden? well then, Ukraine what Trump was impeached for, and why so many people from the State department have left.

and heā€™s got no real wins w/r/t israel. moving the embassy? normalized relations with bahrain? meh.

We werenā€™t counting on Ossoff winning to take over the Senate, so thatā€™s a yay. Try not to turn every new possibility into an ā€œif we donā€™t win it weā€™ve lostā€ because then it makes taking over the Senate become a failure.

We already know Trumpā€™s debate strategy. Forget the ground rules, forget the moderator, heā€™s going to hunterbidenhunterbidenhunterbiden when itā€™s his turn to speak and HUNTERBIDENHUNTERBIDENHUNTERBIDEN!!!TY when itā€™s Joeā€™s turn to speak. He will not address the topics or stop speaking when itā€™s not his turn.

re: #214 NetworkKed

Itā€™s just trying to discredit results they donā€™t like.

floridaā€™s already started counting the mail-ins

Republicans are showing their asses and being cowardly when asked about their support for Trumpcrap, and itā€™s not helping. For people so concerned with ā€œopticsā€ none of them even get how awful they look to the general public outside their bubble. Loefflerā€™s ads have been just stupid and really tone deaf, Collinsā€™ are just about how heā€™s not Loeffler. And interestingly, there have been NO negative ads against Warnock. No scary socialism ads or any of the garbage Purdue has been running against Ossoff. Can it be over and yield the results we want and need? So I can maybe actually sleep without waking up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat? Please?
