I should have included this from the article:
… Senior party leaders and Democratic National Committee members are privately exploring the idea of pushing South Carolina and Nevada to the front of the primary election schedule, as well as the possibility of multiple states holding the first nominating contest on the same day…
“I don’t think it’s appropriate to have those two states to set the tone. It’s really a false premise that if you do well in Iowa and New Hampshire you’re going to do well across the country. That was proven wrong with Joe Biden,” Reid said in an interview. “There’s no diversity in Iowa. There’s certainly no diversity in New Hampshire.”
Interviews with more than a dozen Democratic leaders, DNC members and state party officials reveal that intense behind-the-scenes jockeying is already underway, with conversations ranging from reconfiguring the early state order to moving up Southern or Rust Belt states in the timeline…

Unlike the Republicans who passed the law, I’m sure Delta was aware of the potential consequences of their actions. We have been seeing a massive surge of companies doing the right thing politically over the last decade or so. That tells me that money sees which side is going to win, and that gives me hope.
Exactly. Corporate America is abandoning the GOP. It has actually been an uncomfortable, though usually profitable, partnership for a long time. A lot of corporate types are acutely aware of the historic divide between themselves and the smaller businesses and more localized interests that make up the true Republican base, ie the “high hats” vs. “the cowboys,” or “Wall Street” vs. “Main Street.” The split has been a very long time coming, since this division has existed since the early 19th century, but modern developments, especially globalization, have brought new stresses. Many corporate CEOs also see chaos and even a danger of general collapse in the GOP’s headlong plunge into conspiracist insanity and evangelical superstition.

It was entirely predictable from day 1. Trump was never going to produce a policy or anything beyond vaporware and empty platitudes because he had no interest in doing any of that - that required not only work on his part, but staffers who knew what they were doing.
None did.
Biden has a robust policy shop helping him with the ideas, working with members in Congress to draft his legislation, and then getting them to done is final lift.
Trump even had benefit of GOP control in House and Senate and he couldn’t do anything beyond tax cuts (TCJA) that he rubber stamped and had no clue about the specifics within the bill itself.

The market doesn’t much care how liquidity enters the economy. Trump’s tax cut dumped about 1.9 trillion of liquidity in to the economy, Biden’s infrastructure bill will dump about 2.3 trillion. Either way the market knows a lot of that cash is coming it’s way one way or another.

The CDC did tell us to socially distance from obese people over the age of fifty. They told us to socially distance from everyone.

conflating
- who is more likely to get sicker and / or die from it (comorbidity / outcome)
with
- who is more likely to contract / carry it and therefore infect someone else
(which afaik, no one knows)
I’m just going to say it:
If CDC guidelines had told us to socially distance from obese people over the age of fifty, the pandemic would already be over.
Because math.
And they fucking knew it.
But they couldn’t say it.

Someone turn this into a fucking TV show, please.
Right wing “reporters” seem unable to manipulate the narrative with their questions to Jen Psaki. She makes them look stupid.

pedant
fwiw what’s pictured is not a ‘submarine’
it’s a dpv - dive propulsion vehicle
and to call it james bond style. sure i get the pop reference.
but it’s like calling my 2015 nissan a henry ford style car
so their headline is total clickbait
which they sort of correct in the first line of the story:
The James Bond-style gadget prosecutors say a Canadian man used to smuggle drugs and money across the Detroit River is closer to an underwater jet ski than a submarine.
pedant off
This is the second drug trafficking story involving Metro Detroit and a submarine in the last year https://t.co/X0DV2mHy3V

CBS News: “A Trump-era plan to cut food stamps is now off the table after the Biden administration said it is abandoning a previous plan to tighten work requirements for working-age adults without children. Those restrictions were projected to deny federal food assistance benefits to 700,000 adults, a proposal that had drawn strong condemnation from anti-hunger advocates.”

Dinesh D’Souza is probably the purest distillation of how US reactionaries have no episteme: a thing is true for exactly as long as they need it to be, and proof is something for sinister elites.
re: #116 Belafon
we laughed about that yesterday, but I think she thinks infrastructure only means roads and bridges.
Infrastructure, noun: the basic physical and organizational structures and facilities (e.g. buildings, roads, power supplies) needed for the operation of a society or enterprise.
Society didn’t work too well without housing and pipes, you know, the stuff that underpins it all. Infra!
