Power Line Edges LGF in Scandal-Plagued Poll

Mon, Dec 13, 2004 at 12:54:19 pm PST

Power Line wins! But with a slim lead of 1.4%, they can’t claim to have any sort of mandate. And my team of highly paid attorneys is currently scowling determinedly at Wizbang’s statistics, as dark rumors of ballot box stuffing continue to swirl around the poll.

(Just kidding, of course. Congrats to Power Line, and thanks to Kevin Aylward for putting up with a lot of aggravation over something that is, after all, just supposed to be fun.)

As someone pointed out yesterday -- 2 of the blogs that broke memogate finish 1-2 -- that's just plain cool!

Charles, Powerline may have garnered more votes but you know you're no. 1 with us!

8 grayp  Mon, Dec 13, 2004 11:01:45am

Congrats to the"Rathergate" blogs. You both deserve a place in the blogger Hall of Fame.

Kudos!

9 foreign devil  Mon, Dec 13, 2004 11:02:48am

Oooh! Woe! Oh well, better luck next time! I voted as often as they'd let me but since I'm up day and night I'd lost track of my 24-hour window and I hope I didn't miss 1.4% worth but I don't think so.

Congratulations on losing to an excellent blog, Charles and 2nd isn't too shabby either! ;^)

10 Eric MN  Mon, Dec 13, 2004 11:02:50am

glad to see the 2 blogs i frequent most, finished 1 and 2 in this poll.

I would have voted for you Charles, but you didn't let me register in time! So I guess it's my fault. Are there any provisional ballots available?

13 Eric MN  Mon, Dec 13, 2004 11:04:05am

and by gains, i really mean extends... whoops

14 dll2000  Mon, Dec 13, 2004 11:04:16am

I'm relatively new to blogs. This one is my favorite. Congrats on the recognition.

OT: That being said here's something that is typical of our country today. They tyranny of the offended being able to overrule any decision. Grieving town stuggled to put up a monument that nearly everyone agreed on because some people were offended. What is most telling is typical of liberals and is a lesson as to why they cant be appeased - they complained about some words on monument - they were changed - complained again - more changes - finally put up the monument and they are still complaining.

"As devised by the town manager, the Gilberts and a group of veterans, the design called for a granite monument 4 feet high. The face bore the likeness of an American eagle with a scroll in its talons. On the scroll was "FREEDOM IS NOT FREE" and below it: "BRATTLEBORO SUPPORTS ALL THE BRAVE MEN AND WOMEN WHO SERVED OUR NATION OR MADE THE SUPREME SACRIFICE DURING OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM."

But after the design was circulated among town officials, Sam Haskins, the Vietnam vet, got a call from Jerry Remillard, the town manager. "He said, 'We have to change this to make people happy,' " Haskins says."

17 lawhawk  Mon, Dec 13, 2004 11:04:53am

Congrats to you Charles on doing a tremendous job.

Karl Rove was very pleased with the outcome of the vote, which was never in any doubt. I hear that Koz is planning on initiating a recount on the basis that someone voted five times over the course of the voting period, which Koz believes was both too few times, and too many times because the voter split the vote between Powerline and LGF, meaning that Koz did not garner any votes from that individual. /humor

18 Slam Man  Mon, Dec 13, 2004 11:05:29am

#10 Eric, and they call the "Red Staters" stupid voters.

Charles: You (and Powerline, Druge, et al) will go down in the history books that my great grandkids will read someday...just as I read about radio announcers of the 1920s changing the face of politics...just as Television changed political debates...bloggers are mainstream even if MSM won't acknowledge it.

Class Act: From Powerline

"The record will reflect that it took three of us at Power Line to narrowly outpoll Charles Johnson's incredible one-man operation Little Green Footballs. Even at that, Charles may want a recount."

Charles, it may be time to take on a partner.

Aggghhh, the guilt, the guilt...
I admit it, I voted for them to. My concience made me do it. What with having two of the best blogs going at it head to head and reading such excellant posts I became confused about who was best on a daily basis so on one day I would vote for you and the next them. I thought it was fair even if self cancelling. I must admit I do check here more often then there. Oh the guilt...

The one thing that did irk was the fact that too blogs that were with mainstream(not MSM) rags won. Like kerry spot or Best of the Web. I wanted to see more of the mom and pop blogs win. I guess theres always next year.

Hey, you beat Instapundit, and that has to count for something.

I spoke to the Jewish Elder in charge of Blog Voting to get an explaination, and he said he was very sorry, but after a count of foods that had the special K inside a circle in your kitchen and compared to the entire Powerblog team's kitchens, they had paid clearly more 'taxes'.

Better luck next time.

The good news is the Jewish Elder in charge of gas prices is finally getting ahead of his paper work.

I agree with #24, there should be a historian, documenting the major influences that the blog's are accomplishing. The really neat thing about this, LGF and Powerline are the one's making history, and the MSM is history.

Charles, No P.E.S.T. syndrome for LGF supporters! In this instance, 2nd Place is a distinct honor. When you're right--you're right. LGF wins even when finishing 2nd! Top that, you dhimmis! Congratulations, Charles. I, for one, personally voted for LGF like a dead Mayor Daley Chicagoan = early AND often! Congratulations to Powerline for finishing #1, and for the classy compliments to Charles and LGF. Happiness abounds without even the whisper of a recount. (Yet) LOL :-)

Good showing for LGF. I see that Powerline notes that it took three of them to barely edge out one Charles Johnson. The good guys took the top spots and thats what really counts. Take that, Kos and DU.

OT, all praise to the Holiday Inn Lido for free high-speed internet access in the room, meaning I don't need those glacialy slow and damned expensive AOL dial-up access numbers I wrote down before leaving the house. And even though these people here are the class of the world at internet censorship, not a one of my usual sites has been blocked yet. Works for me !

OT: Mobsters Terrorize Algerian Terrorists

I just looked in on Michelle Malkin's blog and she had this news story posted. There is a great deal of humor in this, strangely enough. Malkin's bit of wit on this subject is:

Maybe we should try this approach to counterterrorism here. Tony Soprano for DHS chief: Just tell us where bin Laden is and fuhgedaboudit.
67 Utahn  Mon, Dec 13, 2004 1:27:29pm

It was either National Review or Powerline that led me to LGF, so I can't begrudge Powerline the win, just in case.

Still, LGF had a great showing, congrats Charles!

I like the idea of the mob v. terrorists. The LLL claim they already think Pres. Bush is a criminal and a thug, so they shouldn't have any objection, right?

#24 foreign devil . . .

There is an idea: we need a 'historian' in the blogosphere who will track the 'key' events i.e. Rathergate. Or is there someone who does that already? If not, I think before much more time passes, one of the more senior bloggers who've had a blog for a few years and is interested enough to have followed or journaled these events, might start a 'history'.

I suggested this to a college professor of "communications" who doesn't follow blogs. I also suggested that he get outside the Matrix. We'll see if anything happens.

Anyway . . .

CHARLES, you rock! And though I'm not a professor, I can tell you that you will be recorded in history as one of the people who helped save Western Civilization.

76 salt1907  Tue, Dec 14, 2004 9:55:43am

If anyone has cause to start a recount, it is I. I finished 8th in my category. That means 7 Halliburton funded infidels intimidated voters and violated my constituents' civil rights. We must make sure every vote counts . . . [you know the rest].
