Charles - if you are sometimes known by the company you keep, I'm honored to be in the same company as you are. Not on that blog, that I know of, but on several other blogs - none of which I had ever been to before.
Yesterday, one of my friends from LGF e-mailed me to tell me about my being "outed" at HaloScan (sp?). Since he e-mailed the link to me, I took a look. Someone who was using the non-de plume of that day "wizard" claims I revealed so much of myself in one of my posts on LGF that he was able to track me down and named my name, stated I was not a vietnam vet and other assorted things. Someone whose nom de plume of the day was Cat Dancing (Dancer?) was responding as if it was me. Never claimed to be me, but never bothered to tell Wizard and someone else whose nic I can't remember, that Cat Dancer was not me.
I was somewhat surprised that someone "outed" me (i.e., said who their research told them I was) but that they spent so much time on it and still got it wrong. You (and about 15 or so LGF regulars) know my true name etc. These are not only rotten scumbags, but obviously unemployed rotten scumbags (or living off parents, trust funds or something cause they obviously never have to spend any time working). BTW my LGF friend who e-mailed me said he thinks you and I (and two others who shall go nameless) share the same stalker.
What I don't understand is why someone with your computer and internet knowledge can't find out who he/sheit are. Oh, sorry, I forgot...you have important things to do!

Re gay bashing - the LLLs seem to think it is ok to gay bash, when you are dissing an enemy. Never mind that you probably have friends, co-workers, readers, etc., who are gay and who will be dissed also by the hatespeech backwash.

Progressive Kuwaiti Intellectual Ahmad Al-Baghdadi Requests Political Asylum in the West

On March 21, 2005, progressive author and lecturer Ahmad Al-Baghdadi, who teaches political science at the University of Kuwait, published a request for political asylum in the West in the Kuwaiti liberal daily Al-Siyasa. This move was in response to being sentenced by a Kuwaiti court to three years on probation on 2,000 dinars [$6800] bail, with violation punishable by a one-year prison sentence, on charges of contempt for Islam.

In a June 5, 2004 article, Al-Baghdadi responded to reports that the Kuwaiti Education Ministry was demanding that private schools increase Islamic education classes and allocate time for rote Koran learning. As a result, private schools would have to reorganize their curricula, and one ministry official suggested removing music classes to make way for the additional religious studies.

Following the publication of this article, Al-Baghdadi was sued by three Islamists who accused him of contempt for Islam. In January 2005, he was acquitted by a lower court that ruled that he had merely expressed his personal opinion. However, on March 19, an appeals court overturned this decision and ruled that Al-Baghdadi had exceeded the bounds of expressing an opinion and legitimate criticism by making statements suggesting a connection between the study of Islam and rote Koran learning, and intellectual backwardness and terrorism. After publishing his request for political asylum, Al-Baghdadi wrote another article, on March 26, declaring his withdrawal from writing in Kuwait. [See MEMRI's Reform Project for more on Al-Baghdadi [2] ]

The following are excerpts from all three articles:

"But it is clear that the Education Ministry is determined to systematically destroy private education, having failed at public education. I am not one of those who fear religion, or who grow beards or wear religious turbans, and in my opinion music and developing artistic taste are more important than rote learning of the Koran and religious studies. The religious studies that already exist are definitely sufficient. I do not want to waste my money on any [additional] religious studies…

"I don't want my son to be taught by ignoramuses not to respect women and non-Muslims. I don't want those in charge of determining the non-educational curricula – who are backwards both cognitively and intellectually – to fill my son's head with traditions about demons.

It doesn't offend me. I think it has a very appropriate shade of meaning when kids use it to refer to something that's ridiculously fey, which is how I usually hear it used.

I know a kid, a high school freshman, who happens to sit in front of a gay kid in one of his classes. Everytime he says "That's so gay!" the gay kid sighs and rolls his eyes. I told the kid the next time it happens, he should turn around and say, "Butch up, girlfriend."

I've been reading blogs, op-eds, and editorials for going on forty years, and LGF is about as far from a fascist site as I can imagine. The LLL and the arabs have adopted similar tactics lately, which are to label your opponents with whatever socio-political-terrorist behavior these decriers have already initiated. It is just a another spin on Owellian Newspeak. LGF as far as I can tell is about personal freedom, righteousness, goodness, the US Constitution, Judeo-Christian ethics, and kicking some ass to protect and prolong Western civilization. On the other side of the equation, I place fascists, communists, druglords, islamists, jihadists, EUroWeenies, paleo-nihilists, and for some unfathomable reason our own LLL and MSM. Somehow, peace and love in the 60s produced the monolithic reactionary left in America.

Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet with German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder for a two-day summit early next week in Hannover, where Russian delegations will play a prominent role in an annual international trade fair. Apart from any business deals that might be forged during the April 10-11 summit, the tete-a-tete is noteworthy for three very important reasons: the present, future and past.

Let's begin with the present. Schroeder is presiding over an economy that has dipped to its poorest showing since World War II, with unemployment at a 70-year high of 12 percent and its third recession in two years under way. Germany is Russia's single most important trade partner -- the two already are forging closer ties in military, space and energy affairs. Clearly, the Hannover trade fair is an important event for workers and companies in both countries.

But stepping back a notch, it also likely has important implications for both Schroeder and Putin on personal and geopolitical levels as well. For Schroeder, the poor state of the economy is going to damage his Social Democrats in elections slated for May, and Russia seems an obvious choice to turn to if he can do anything to notch improvements between now and then. Russia's energy industry and large markets are particularly enticing for Berlin.

For his part, Putin has been suffering an image-battering at home, given the recent spate of political upheavals and perceived Western encroachment in Russia's traditional sphere of influence. A Putin desperate for a low-risk way of proving that Russia still has geopolitical leverage somewhere in the world could do worse than to look to Europe -- and particularly Germany, his own former stomping ground as a KGB agent.

Berlin has taken the lead in efforts to strengthen EU-Russian relations -- and so far it has been all but alone. The rest of the European Union, whose bounds have been expanded by a slew of Central European states with bad Cold War memories, remains quite leery of Russia. Not for the first time, we are seeing a case of division between one of the core EU states and the rest of the Union -- a trend outlined in Stratfor's 2004 annual forecast, in which we stated that 2005 will be seen retrospectively as the beginning of the end of the European Union.

Over the next several years, what might now seem to be normal tensions will continue to rip and tear at the fabric of the Union -- and for its part, France will only add to the strain. Like Germany, France is in terrible economic condition and casting about for political and trade partners who can lend a hand -- but looking further afield, possibly to China. Paris and Berlin are no longer moving in lockstep on key issues -- if in fact they ever were (France has always used Germany as a stepping stool to French domination of the EU) -- and the differences will only become increasingly obvious over time.

For observers of the past, this underlying state of affairs cannot but sound a bit familiar. Now, we certainly are not making a forecast at this point, but it is noteworthy that the last time the German economy was in such dire straits, Germany militarized -- and signed a treaty with Russia known as the Molotov-Rippentrop accord. With its eastern flank secured, Germany then was free -- for a time -- to set about launching World War II.

Love it, love it, love it. There is a State Game Land range that is free to public use near me, and believe me, I take full advantage of it (as well as my back yard). The problem is, the range has this weird policy of no more than 3 rounds in the magazine at any one time! Where's the fun in that? But to get back to my point, hunting here in PA with a semi-auto weapon is illegal so I usually practice on a human sillouette, while most of the others use deer sillouettes or bullseyes. I'm always asked "why are you using that gun, you can't hunt with it?" to which I reply: who says I own this to hunt deer with?
