What the Hell is Going On at Google News?

Sat, Apr 30, 2005 at 2:49:36 pm PDT

If you think you’ve seen the worst that Google News has to offer, think again.

In their search results for conspiracy planet, Google News is currently featuring the following sick, blatantly antisemitic illustration. (Hat tip: Only In Israel.)

There is something really, really rotten at Google News. They allow this from a site that’s clearly by and for obsessed lunatics, but specifically drop sites like The Jawa Report—a pro-America site that focuses on hard news about the global jihad—for violating their “hate speech” rules.

If you’d like to ask Google what the hell is going on, here is their contact form.

Astrology: More on Taurus
    by SHELDON ROSNER

(Apr 30, 2005) The last day of April is here and I’m glad it’s over…it’s been slow and there was the retrograde Mercury earlier this month and that’s never all that fun.

Taurus rules the neck and throat, which is why you’ll find so many singers born under this Venusian sign. Ella Fitzgerald is a perfect example of the natural vocal instincts that Taurus people have.

Taurus is all about sensual pleasures, which is why chocolate and sweets are ruled by this sign. Indulgence in excess of the sweet treats can lead to blood sugar imbalance, be it hypoglycemia or diabetes, requiring insulin to compensate. Some people just don’t metabolize foods they eat very well, but it’s because we are lazy and don’t get enough proper nutrition and exercise.

It's obvious that google's liberal proprietors are racist and bigoted. And in an effort to really insult them, they are unfair too.

Lets all start webpages, link to the most hateful, anti-Western and anti-Semitic garbage under the sun on those pages, and then slap a huge and glossy "NEWS" banner over the top. Lets call it "GoebbelsNews" using the Google logo style.

The only problem is that we've got too much competition.

@17

What can we do to start a campaign against google?

Well change is coming:

One example it cites is Now Public, where ordinary guys file news and video stories: click a button to "email in footage" it says: and why not you? What has made this possible is widespread Internet connectivity and the availability of cheap consumer video cameras. Readers may recall how the really spectacular footage of the tsunami which swept the Indian was provided by tourists who happened to have been at the disaster sites. That demonstrated how anyone at the site of breaking news could become an instant correspondent. Now Public emphasizes video and has a surprisingly wide collection of stories. Many of those filed from the Middle East focus on the Syrian withdrawal from Lebanon. And did you know that Scott Ritter predicts a US attack on Iran in June 2005?

29 Walpurgis Knight  Sat, Apr 30, 2005 1:16:03pm

Many, many people I know use Google as their news source. These are folks I consider wise in other spheres of their lives. In order to justify any strange position they might take, they will say "It's on Google News," as though that vindicates them. They don't seem to realize that Google News is not its own fact collector--they use many less-than-reliable sites for that (as we see here).

Every civilization is ultimately destroyed by its own achievements--for most, that is advancements in military doctrine. For the USA, it is becoming increasingly clear that the freedom of the press is our bane.

Slightly OT--I advise anyone who is interested in hack journalism and its nihilistic ambitions to read Balzac's Lost Illusions. It lampoons 19th Century French newspapers and is equally applicable today (not to mention a great yarn).

Google is as much a part of the mainstream media as anybody. Their choices about where to place news and how to organize it mirror the choices that a news editor makes when looking at the day's news and editorials.

Hold their feet to the fire like I do on my blog.

LOL!

What Churchill is really trying to say is that from Wounded Knee to the Tokyo Firebombing to our sanctions starving half a million children in Iraq (his favorite talking point), we are guilty of an "uninterrupted stream of massacres." Saddam Hussein--who cared about Iraqi children enough to tie them to tanks as human shields, who skimmed $20 billion from the Oil-for-Food program after it was implemented in 1996, and who before that turned down deal after deal for humanitarian aid if it came with monitoring conditions to ensure it was being used for food (all while finding the scratch to build 48 palaces)--doesn't figure in Churchill's narrative.

Google is so damn aggravating. If they just banned anything disparaging on any religion, and their only news sources were some local papers then fine. I mean it would pathetic censorship, but they're a private party and they could do it. But how can they live with themselves being such hypocrites? Anti-semitism is somehow ok and free expression on Google News, but anything questioning Islam is hate speech. Unreal. Charles, maybe it's time to get rid of that hotlink to Google News you got over there.

I let them know what I think. Let them know what you think by blocking their stupid ads with Firefox.

First, install the ChromEdit extension. It make it easier to edit user files.
[Link: www.extensionsmirror.nl...]

Restart Firefox.

Click Tools -> Edit User Files
Click the userContent.css tab at the top of the box that opens.

Add these two lines:

@import URL("[Link: adblock.f2g.net...]
@import URL("[Link: adblock.f2g.net...]

And click save.

Restart firefox.

Enjoy ad-free web surfing. That's what you get google. There's a few hundred thousand less ad viewers.

I will never, ever understand Jew-hatred.

I'm not unintelligent. I'm well educated and well read. I analyze and think things THROUGH to their logical conclusions. And I think I'm especially capable of UNBIASED insights.

(Judging by the number of times I've been attacked as a "troll" on this site becaue I made some observation that deviated from the "party line," I'm pretty confident of that last one.)

I'm not claiming to be unique, certainly, or even "special." I think the majority of regular posters here share all these same characteristics.

So what the hell is it with Jew-hatred? I cannot understand THAT. What am I missing?

Jealousy? Just plain moonbattiness? I don't buy the "killed Jesus" crap. And most Jew haters aren't really big on Jesus, anyway. So why is it that this small minority of generally well-educated, civilized, cosmopolitan, often extremely accomplished people, for some reason (I'm not blaming THEM) arouse such animosity in other people?

That's because it uses Google.

the Dogpile founders enlisted the help of a little known virtual retriever named Arfie.

In no time Arfie became the hardest working canine on the Web. Every time you enter a search term, Arfie chases down the best results from the Internet's top search engines, including Google, Yahoo!, Ask Jeeves, About, FindWhat, LookSmart and more.

jrdroll, from your link ...

The grave actually is a series of 18 trenches, which investigators say they believe Iraqi forces dug with front loaders and maintained for systematic executions.

Investigators said that women and children were forced to stand at the edge of the pits, then shot with AK-47 assault rifles. Casings were found near the site, they said.

"They sprayed people with bullets so they fell back" into the graves, Iraq's human rights minister, Bakhtyar Amin, told reporters.

The new Nazis learned their lessons well from the old Nazis.

Please Pray for my Son
My son had a severe seizure two days ago. In the span of ten seconds he went from a healthy two month old baby to fighting for his life. His heart stopped for several minutes before the paramedics could restore his heartbeat. His brain has swollen and the prognosis is doubtful at best. I've never seen anything more frightening or agonizing in my life.

I feel blessed to have had him for two months. If there are miracles, we sure could use one.

Hi Rusty,
Upon recent review, we've found that your site contains hate speech, and we will no longer be including it in Google News.

You want some hate speech from Conspiracy Planet? Here:
Hitler was a magnanimous leader who didn't want war with his Aryan cousins, he only wanted to conquer Russia because it was "a proxy for Jewish world ambitions".
(It's probably not obvious to you that implying the Jews do, or want to, run the world is hate speech. Well it is, ok?)

Despite this, I predict you won't drop Conspiracy Planet from Google News.
I've become aware of a trend in your decisions, and despite your excellent product, I would not feel good about continuing to use it.

I installed Chromedit and did as you said, but it also removed Blogads (the woman in the tight shirt and Seven Windows!).

So I then installed Adblock to try to block only Google ads. When I closed Firefox, it wouldn't open again!. A window appears saying "Firefox has experienced an error and needs to shut down."

I uninstalled it and reinstalled it twice, then tried again after deleting the extensions folder- nothing.

that's really weird, I've never had firefox not start up. try going to "add/remove programs" and getting rid of any remnants and then reinstalling firefox.

if that doesn't work, go to regedit and get rid of all mentions of firefox and reinstall.

last suggestion, try it first: go to

C:Documents and Settings[USER]Application DataMozillaFirefoxProfiles.chrome

and delete the userContent.css file.

that may also work. sorry to hear that happened. if you don't want to get rid of the blogad, you'll have to manually enter the CSS file and not enter whatever site it is that blogad runs off.

144 Gadfly  Sat, Apr 30, 2005 3:59:42pm

I guess I don't understand the problem. I typed the same words into other search (e.g. Yahoo)engines and got the same result. Isn't this just a matter of these crackpots putting a whole string of keywords somewhere on their site and openly broadcasting it so that all the search engines hit it? Lets call it a political/racist version of porn. I don't know that the conpiracy is built into any of these search engines as much as it is another example of the internet magnifying the apparent importance of a bunch of fringe nuts. This is my beef with the Internet as currently set-up (that is completely open with essentially no rules nor boundries) as it allows any sick nut who can type up and post a website to gain notoriety - where as in the pre-net days these types could only be heard ranting under freeway overpasses and at the occassional Berkley lectures. Call me a Luddite, but I can see a day when the Net no longer exists in its current form - either replaced with a more controlled form (i.e. the postal service doesn't allow porn or hate junk mail now does it), or national boundries are incorporated, which would allow someone who say posts a beheading video to be sued into oblivion by their relatives. As it has clearly become an excellent propaganda and communications tool for terrorists which is allowed to be broadcast into our country without check.

I will never, ever understand Jew-hatred.

It's a manifestation of satanic forces, plain and simple.

The worst thing that supporters of the Jews and Israel can do is continue bleating about "antisemitism", as though it was just a matter of regular old racial prejudice. It's not, as can be shown here in England, where exhaustive laws concerning racial discrimination are flouted if the target is Jewish. You can accurately gauge the righteousness of a nation by how it treats Jews, both in government policy and in popular opinion.
Evil nations and evil people hate the Jews.

And yes, any readers who turn their noses up at this idea, simply because of the religious message, run the risk of becoming the most virulent of the Jew haters in the end.

146 Charles  Sat, Apr 30, 2005 4:15:46pm

Well, I personally wouldn't use your specific language ("satanic") because, as you say, that DOES fire up the anti-religion people, but when it comes down to the final analysis, I do agree with you that the only "explanation" is some anti-logical, anti-humanity, anti-religion, yes, probably "evil" force.

If the Jews are God's "chosen people," and I think they are---which is why they were entrusted with holy scripture and why God's SON was delivered to us among the Jews---that alone would make them the target of anti-God, anti-man forces.

I think it is very interesting that the new pope, Benedict XVI, just recently said that although he hopes that eventually all of God's people, including the Jews, will be united in God's Church on earth, RIGHT NOW the Jews have a "vital role" to play in the world.

And yes, any readers who turn their noses up at this idea, simply because of the religious message,

I'm always amazed at people who "turn their noses up" at anything religious, because they say, well, we can't know that it's true.

YES, exactly, and we can't know that it's NOT true.

There was a time when intelligent, educated people thought that germs and atoms were "superstition" because they "couldn't know."

Dismissing what you can't be sure of, BECAUSE you can't be sure of it,
strikes ME as the ultimate anti-intellectual stance.

I'm always amazed at people who "turn their noses up" at anything religious, because they say, well, we can't know that it's true.

And I'm amazed at the number of people here at LGF who do indeed sense the danger of islam, but still fail to grasp the real motivation behind moslem behaviour. Some people confuse the cause and the effect. Moslems aren't evil because of the beheadings and the bombings and the plane crashes, rather, they commit these acts because they are driven by satanic forces.

159 nonic  Sun, May 1, 2005 4:13:03am

#158 Le Trôle

Well, "satan," or not --- I really can't bring myself to use that term --- they certainly are driven by forces that they see as otherworldly.

They, apparently, do not care about this life because the next life is what is more important. No question of whether it exists. In their mind, it EXISTS and it is ALL that is important.

I think two things about your

people here at LGF who do indeed sense the danger of islam, but still fail to grasp the real motivation behind moslem behaviour

One is that many good and fine and even religious people (or not) are not themselves so personally invested in otherwordliness or afterlife that they can really appreciate it in others.

There's a disconnnect. It reminds me of the Colonial American writer, Cotton Mather, who wrote "Miracles of the Unseen World," trying to convince people at the time to believe that it was really WITCHcraft at work. Basically, he said if you believe in angels and good, you must also believe in devils and evil. People wanted (and still want) a universe that contains the first but not the second.

The other thing that I believe is that many people don't care at all what someone else's religion is, or what its tenets are, as long as everybody obeys the basic rules of "live and let live," "mind your own business," and "don't go flying planes into buildings of innocent civilians."

There are people who believe in and practice voo-doo (no slur intended) or whatever they call their "magical" sort of religions. They make animal sacrifices and/or engage in sexual or drug orgies or whatnot.

Most people believe that as long as they don't cause havoc in the streets and endanger the lives of people outside their religion... hey, well, each to his own.

My email sent to Google weeks ago:

Dear Google,

The explosion of online blogs as news sources continues at an ever
increasing expotential rate and your blog service is one of the top
blog services which feed users to Google.

That said, I'm concerned that the representation for the Google News
Service is not being fairly applied as there are very well read
websites with news and commentary that are being ignored and ignored
to be added to Google News but you continue to add questionable and
source anti-American websites in your listing. Is there not any
oversight?

Is there more going on that we should know about? Is there a block in
the system? Who is that block in the system of adding additional
websites?

We wish you would reconsider adding LGF to your news source listing.
Please review this link below for more information and another exhibit
of the apparent bias that this block in the system is causing.

Well they say not to write to the editor write to the advertiser.

So the only real way to get Google is to write to companies advertising that you use, telling them you won't use their products anymore until they stop advertising on Google or pressure Google News and Google Ads to stop posing anti-semitic sites as "news".
