If you live in California, Mother Sheehan (currently hanging out with Chavez cronies in Venezuela) wants to be your senator! Received from the Cindy Sheehan mailing list (with hat tips to several LGF readers):

For immediate release:
Friday, January 27, 2006

Contacts:
Jodie Evans, (310) 621-5635 (in Venezula and US)

Cindy Sheehan to Dianne Feinstein:
Fillibuster Alito or I’ll Challenge Your Senate Seat

Caracas, Venezuela - Gold star mother Cindy Sheehan has decided to run against California Senator Diane Feinstein if Feinstein does not filibuster the Supreme Court nomination of Judge Samuel Alito. While in Venezuela attending the World Social Forum, Sheehan learned that several Democratic Senators had announced their plans for a filibuster but that Senator Feinstein, who’s up for re-election in November, had stated she would vote against the nomination but not filibuster it. “I’m appalled that Diane Feinstein wouldn’t recognize how dangerous Alito’s nomination is to upholding the values of our constitution and restricting the usurpation of presidential powers, for which I’ve already paid the ultimate price,” Sheehan said.

Sheehan is the grieving military mother whose vigil outside President Bush’s ranch in Crawford last summer focused the nation’s attention on the human cost of the Iraq war. Her son Casey was killed in Iraq in April 2004.

Judge Alito has an extensive paper trail documenting the right-wing political agenda that he has actively advanced, not only as a high-ranking official in the Reagan Administration, but also as a judge. He has publicly supported the “Unitary Executive” theory, a radical notion that the President holds exclusive and inherent authority to execute all federal law. He has supported efforts to curtail privacy rights, including not only privacy from government surveillance and arbitrary arrest, but also other constitutional rights based on privacy, such as reproductive liberty for women. Alito has outspokenly sought to restrict Congress’ power, limiting the scope of the Commerce Clause of Article I of the Constitution. In addition, he has consistently applied his discretion as a judge in favor of certain interests and against others. He rarely votes against big business, police or prosecutors.

Sheehan is available for interviews from Venezuela through the contact people listed above. She returns to the United States on Monday morning and will travel to Washington, DC on Tuesday to participate in an alternative State of the Union event.

When I got that Cindy email, I just had to send it to Charles -- probably along with half the other crypto-moonbats here!

Many LLLs are crowing that Feinstein caved in and agreed to filibuster Alito because of Cindy's threat!

Sweet.

OT This has to do with the girl raped in Vermont. George Soros and the Left are responsible:

The Power of the Press When Used Properly

Restorative Justice, as a growing movement, is just starting to receive long awaited exposure in the national U.S. media. This creates tremendous opportunity for advocates and policymakers alike to capitalize on raising public awareness of RJ in our communities. In tandem, this can enable us to secure funding when the media is used properly. This in turn enables us to broaden our services.

The Oprah Magazine, O, in it's newly released April 2004 issue, features an in-depth RJ article, "After Violence, the Possibility of Healing," by award-winning journalist Jan Goodwin. The author powerfully presents a series of compelling cases that illustrate the practice and philosophy of RJ. O magazine reaches *15 million readers. The article is one of three funded by the Soros Foundation through a Media Fellowship awarded to Goodwin in 2002/3.

Marie Claire magazine, with *10 million readers, has a 2nd article by Goodwin in the May 2004 issue, "I Faced Down My Mother's Killer." The story presents the compelling case of Ami White and her grandmother meeting with inmate Gary Brown through the victim services program at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

Scheduled to appear later this spring in Family Circle magazine is another feature article on RJ. This one with juvenile cases reaches *20 million readers, and again is a powerful portrayal of RJ in action.

And there is more exciting news! The Oprah Show, has taped a one-hour TV special focused on RJ. Broadcast dates will likely be in late April or early May. Stay tuned for an announcement of the exact date and time.

Additionally, more RJ publicity is on the horizon within the larger field of conflict resolution and peacemaking. Two organizations, Association for Conflict Resolution (ACR) and the Fellowship of Reconciliation (FOR), are devoting upcoming issues to RJ.

This is a chance for all of us to make the most of media's rising interest in RJ to promote RJ programs and philosophy, and generate even more positive press in our communities.

there has to be a good story on this sudden push for a filibuster that no one thinks they will win.

Perhaps they've come to believe that they're absolutely taking back the Seante this year, so they're trying to force the Republicans to use the nuke option which would benefit them when they regain power.

55 lawhawk  Fri, Jan 27, 2006 4:00:57pm

Oh, let her run. She'd be a GOP dream candidate. And I'm sure even moderate or even some liberal democrats would jump the shark to jump ship when they hear about stuff like this.

And about Bill Clinton . . . You know, I really think he should have been impeached, but not for a blow job. His policies are responsible for killing more Iraqis that George Bush. I don't understand why to rise to the level of being president of my country one has to be a monster. I used to say that George Bush was defiling the Oval Office, but it's been held by a long line of monsters. We don't have to support our administrations to love our country. True patriots of my country dissent when our country's doing something so wrong.

So, even Clinton isn't immune from excoriation by Sheehan. There's not a single President she'd find acceptable. In fact, she's an unrepentant Leftist who would dismantle our ability to defend ourselves against our enemies.

It's quite simple. The Leftists in the Senate have to go through the motions on the filibuster or the ultra-Leftists and the party poohbahs will abandon them to their fates and find other folks to back - further splintering the Democratic Party.

That and the Kerry/Kennedy tag team duo who couldn't count are trying to show that they've still got some power. Yeah, they're still collecting paychecks and yammering away.

I'm just surprised that Kerry managed to get away from the ski slopes long enough to place a call in to try and start a filibuster. Kerry must have had someone read him the NYT op-ed suggesting someone do something futile and rediculous. Kerry and Kennedy were just the folks to do it.

64 Yankee Yankee Zulu  Fri, Jan 27, 2006 4:06:18pm

BWAHAHAHAHAHA! Can you imagine Feinstein being outflanked to THE LEFT by Sheehan?

This would be GREAT. Let Sheehan suck off some of Feinstein's votes, splitting the Dem vote.

Too bad its all just stupid posturing. . .

Posture #1: Feinstein was probably going to filibuster anyway, so Sheehan is just making noises (and she knows it).

Posture #2: The entire filibuster effort is doomed to failure, and everyone knows it. Talk about filibuster itself is just a posture to stroke the liberal-lefty (read donating) Democrat base.

Ahhh! not to minimise her heart-felt sense of loss and grief, how-some-ever I don't understand this statement...

I'm confused, doesn't the word usurpation mean to take away; to erode; to remove... I thought she was railing againist the "Bsuhitler War" for which her son paid the ultimate price...

Actually I'm now thinking that I re-registered too soon. Think about Mama Sheehan as:

1. Running against Diane and spouting her drivel all over TV

2. Winning and being the Jr Senator from California.

What could be better. No way the MSM could hide her anti-semitic racist ravings from the rest of the country. She would be on C-Span every day. Cool.

I'm going to re-register as a Democrat next week.

we should try and convince the Dems that Cindy is more "electable" ...
:-)

Exactly, getting the Ultra Left CA dem’s to run Mama Moonbat instead of Feinstein would be good - for the republicans.

As some of you know it almost takes dynamite to dislodge an incumbent Senator in CA. Sheehan just may be the thing to dislodge Feinstien. There is a considerable number of military voters (and their families) in CA who will not soon forget the dem’s disgraceful treatment of them and their mission (kissing up to the enemy and disparaging their work).

131 Ed Mahmoud abu al Qahool Martyr Brigades  Fri, Jan 27, 2006 6:01:06pm

As noted above, Feinstein backed down faced with this threat.

Why?

Obvious, although a complete moonbat whacko like Cindy might have trouble even in California against a normal Republican in the general election, she'd fit right in with the base in the primaries. She'd have a real shot of dumping Feinstein.

I was thinking the Republicans were going to lose a lot of seats in the 2006 mid-terms, coming close to a 50/50 House, but if the Dems have to keep pandering to the base, it should help the Republicans at least somewhat in enough of the races to keep the Republicans in control.

132 Earth to Satan  Fri, Jan 27, 2006 6:09:18pm

“I’m appalled that Diane Feinstein wouldn’t recognize how dangerous Alito’s nomination is to upholding the values of our constitution and restricting the usurpation of presidential powers, for which I’ve already paid the ultimate price,” Sheehan said.

What ultimate price is she talking about? Casey Sheehan gave the ultimate sacrifice, and she called the killers 'freedom fighters'. All she has done is expoit her sons' tragic murder for her own celebrity complex. What a worthless bitch. . . it will be a great day when she really does pay 'the ultimate price' when dealing with ruthless killers she adores.

133 Mauser  Fri, Jan 27, 2006 6:13:10pm

Losing Feinstein to Sheehan... I'm all for it. Feinstein is effective at advancing the liberal agenda. Sheehan will make enemies of the entire Democratic party in no time.

Even better, if Sheehan secures the nomination, maybe the Californian left will come out of the pot-induced haze long enough to realize the doom bearing down on them to even vote the only alternative to sheehag, a Republican...

Okay, I can dream, can't I?

That assumes that the California Democrat Party is abso-freakin'-lutely suicidal, which I do not believe. They have to know that Cindy Sheehan would drive every non-moonbat in the state to the Republican, Libertarian, or you-name-it party. They might carry San Fran and Berkeley but would that be enough for them to hang on to that seat? Feinstein, uber-lib though she may be, is not an idiot. At this point, the Dems can't afford to lose any seats in Congress, so the state Dems will do everything necessary to keep Cindy from upsetting their apple-cart.

All I have to say is that if the Dmes somehow do get enough votes to filibuster (and it could happen, the Kos, moveon, PFAW types are going to put the pressure thick on their senators), then Bill Frist better use the nuclear option.

The gang of 14 deal will only be good if Frist enforces it.

I don't expect the Dems to have the 40 votes (I'd say there's a 75% chance against it), but it could happen.

As for Sheehag, the People's Republic of California is about the only place she could win.

What's with these losers who don't understand winning and losing in a representative democracy? You don't like the results, so you go set up your own "alternative" reality and pretend to govern?

The people still behind this attention ho are reprehensible and a danger to the republic, as they are leading feebleminded folks over the cliff instead of into the fold.

151 harry9000  Fri, Jan 27, 2006 7:34:45pm

I remember that in the early '80's followers of the mystic cult "Rajneeshee" settled in eastern Oregon, and for a while, even ran the city council of the town of Antelope. That was not all. In order to consolodate what ever political power they had, they bussed homeless people in from other cities and registering them as voters.

They alledgedly attemted to poison the citzens of The Dalles, who were probably quite concerned by all of this.

The head cult honcho, Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh used to drive past his disciples with one of his many Rolls Royces, which had been purchased by the faithful themselves, as they lined the road and waved at him.

He smiled and waved back.

His followers were said to labor in 12 hour days without pay.

In 1985, the dream fell apart with his assistant fled the US to avoid facing charges and the Bhagwan was left holding the bhag.

Now, with the dream gone, where could one turn to find a new critically thinking-reality based spiritual enlightenment?

I think you know where. I know I do.

If John Kerry (who still has sick delusions of a second run for the White House)stays out in front of this "filibuster" plan, Hillary can end his political career and any threat of it against her by voting against Alito but not supporting the filibuster. Kerry will be revealed once again as the loser he is. He will be seen as being nearly as deranged as Momma Moonbat and unelectable as anything but a Senator from Moonbatsachussets.

This is pissing me off. The insane wing of the Democrat Party are actually making Hillary Clinton, the Stalinist of our generation, seem moderate.

With any luck she'll tie herself to the mast of the "DNC Filibuster" and go down with all hands.

This just in from ABC news...

ABC News: Cindy Sheehan May Challenge Calif. Senator

Aside from being slow on the story, ABC has the article as follows...

CARACAS, Venezuela Jan 29, 2006 — Cindy Sheehan, the peace activist who set up camp near President Bush's Texas ranch last summer, said Saturday she is considering running against Sen. Dianne Feinstein to protest what she called the California lawmaker's support for the war in Iraq.

"She voted for the war. She continues to vote for the funding. She won't call for an immediate withdrawal of the troops," Sheehan told The Associated Press in an interview while attending the World Social Forum in Venezuela along with thousands of other anti-war and anti-globalization activists.

"I think our senator needs to be held accountable for her support of George Bush and his war policies," said Sheehan, whose 24-year-old soldier son Casey was killed in Iraq in 2004.

Feinstein's campaign manager, Kam Kuwata, said the senator "doesn't support George Bush and his war policies."

"She has stated publicly on numerous occasions that she felt she was misled by the administration at the time of the vote," Kuwata said by phone from California.

But with troops committed, Feinstein believes immediate withdrawal is not a responsible option, Kuwata said.

"Senator Feinstein's position is, let's work toward quickly turning over the defense of Iraq to Iraqis so that we can bring the troops home as soon as possible," he said.

Sheehan accused Feinstein of being out of touch with Californians on the issue.

She said she would decide whether to run after talking with her three other adult children. The Democratic primary will be held in June, and candidates must submit their statements for the voter guide by Feb. 14.

Kuwata said Feinstein and Sheehan appear to have a fundamental disagreement over whether troops should be pulled out right now. "That's why they have elections, and if she decides to file (paperwork to run), so be it," he said.

Sheehan said running in the Democratic primary would help make a broader point.

"If I decided to run, I would have no illusions of winning, but it would bring attention to all the peace candidates in the country," she said.

Sheehan, 48, who lives in Berkeley, Calif., said she would head to Washington on Sunday for protests against Bush's State of the Union address on Tuesday, and then return to California to discuss her idea of running against Feinstein with her son and two daughters.

"I can't see if they think it's going to help peace that they would be opposed to me doing it," she said.

Quotes to note:

Sheehan accused Feinstein of being out of touch with Californians on the issue.

As if Sheehan isn't...

"If I decided to run, I would have no illusions of winning, but it would bring attention to all the peace candidates in the country," she said.

Just a broad attention grab. Go figure.

"I can't see if they think it's going to help peace that they would be opposed to me doing it," she said.

Now what the hell is she trying to say here? I have been known to write some pretty convoluted sentences, however, mine are gramatically correct AND decipherable.
