Murtha: US More Dangerous Than N. Korea, Iran

Sun, Jun 25, 2006 at 10:23:30 am PDT

Murtha says U.S. poses top threat to world peace. (Hat tip: Sweetness & Light.)

MIAMI — American presence in Iraq is more dangerous to world peace than nuclear threats from North Korea or Iran, Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa., said to an audience of more than 200 in North Miami Saturday afternoon.

Murtha was the guest speaker at a town hall meeting organized by Rep. Kendrick B. Meek, D-Miami, at Florida International University’s Biscayne Bay Campus. Meek’s mother, former Rep. Carrie Meek, D-Miami, was also on the panel.

Murtha is the Moonbat-Gift-That-Keeps-On-Giving.

First, the brillian plan to "redeploy" to Okinawa (even my 11 year old can look at a globe and ask "why would he say that...it's near Japan!", now this..

Karl Rove needs to get Murtha his own TV show. The more exposure he gets, the more wacky things he says..the TV cameras and the cheering moonbat throungs just egg him on...and the more credibility the Demoncrats and their MSM cheerleaders will lose.

I think Larry Hagman needs to play Murtha in a Burns & Allen- type movie with Susan Sarandon as Mother Sheehan...except that there's no "straight man."

22 JammieWearingFool  Sun, Jun 25, 2006 8:31:38am

How dare anyone question St. Jack's military service.

But Murtha is a Democrat accusing a Republican. So it fell to the Cybercast News Service, (CNSNews.com, which I founded), and reporters Marc Morano and Randy Hall to look into the Murtha military record. What they found were a lot of similarities to the military record of John Kerry.

Like Kerry, Murtha’s medals came for surface wounds that never caused his evacuation from the battlefield, and like Kerry, he attempted to get his medals by political manipulation, in Murtha’s case, through then-Rep. John Saylor. But Saylor’s office felt it was odd for Murtha to seek medals for “superficial lacerations.”

Murtha also told differing stories about when and where he was wounded in action. A Pittsburgh Post-Gazette story reported in 2002 that Murtha had facial lacerations. In 1994, the Uniontown (Pa.) Herald-Standard quoted Murtha saying he was “wounded in the arm” for one medal and “my knee was banged up and my arm was banged up when a helicopter was shot down” for the other. Then, Morano and Hall uncovered a June 1, 1967 report in the Johnstown (Pa.) Tribune-Democrat quoting from a letter from Murtha to his wife describing his injuries as being "struck in the ankle" by a "shot that ricocheted off the helicopter."

Since there were so many similarities to Kerry – including the fact that author Morano was also one of the first reporters on the Swift Boat Veterans story – the left predictably threw an ugly fit. It was not long, then, for Washington Post columnist E.J. Dionne to load his air-rifle for rhetorical battle. “I underestimated the viciousness of the right wing,” he began.

23 gymnast  Sun, Jun 25, 2006 8:31:38am

If Congressman Jack Murtha is going to be the Cindy Sheehan of the House Of Representatives, He would present himself better if he wore a pink tutu when speaking. Right now he only sounds deranged, the tutu would both affirm and improve his image.

25 Model4  Sun, Jun 25, 2006 8:33:24am

Guess I'll add the obvious too, that our media seems perfectly content to not explore claims from liberal leaders that we must immediately surrender Iraq to the jihadis "because it is a failure" and "because it has been a success" at the same time. Or the utter lack of detailed proposals on how to do things better. "We want to wait until September to see how issues are polling and what looks most promising then, that'll be what we believe in." Yes, we need more leaders who can't take a stand unless based upon hindsight.

In fairness to Murtha, that's not a direct quote. As we all know the media are not above making shit up. True, they usually make shit up about Republicans but still...

Now, I did find another version of the story that had this direct quote:

"(The United States) became the target when Abu Ghraib came along," Murtha said.

Right. If only soldiers hadn't put underwear on the head of some terrorists then 9/11 wouldn't have happened. If only Lindy England hadn't gone to Iraq those two poor soldiers wouldn't have been tortured to death last week.

Nice job Mr. Murtha. Way to blame your own country for the actions of barbarians.

American presence in Iraq is more dangerous to world peace than nuclear threats from North Korea or Iran, Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa., said to an audience of more than 200 in North Miami Saturday afternoon.

I keep thinking I must have misread that. But no, that's what it says. Murtha has lost his mind; on one side, there's a coalition presence in Iraq, trying to create a stable government where the people who live under it don't get killed in factional violence, or by their government, and have a chance to build better lives. On the other, two states run by people who seem a few bricks shy of a full load (to put it mildly) who want to create nuclear missiles.

The statement is ridiculous on its face.

Murtha needs professional mental health help, and he needs it now.

Murtha was right about what? Maliki's "olive branch"? The Iraqi victims of jihadi violence don't think much of it.

Maliki knows full well the Sunni "insurgents" and foreign jihadis do not want peace, only victory. They will reject his offer out of hand and will be seen to all the world for what they are: bloodthirsty criminals. The Iraqi government and the Coalition forces should then have a free hand to destroy them once and for all.

By the way, your demented hero Murtha thinks turning tail and running from Somalia in disgrace was a good thing. The man encourages our sworn enemies and is a menace to everyone in uniform.

In a valiant attempt to figure out what joewilson was talking about, I have been link-clicking on the page he directed us to.

So far, I've checked four articles, and the most we get is a couple one- or two-sentence paragraphs hitting the high points of the Iraqi PM's proposals.

In direct contradiction of joe's point, the PM is suggesting the strengthening of Iraq's domestic order-keeping aparatus (I'd like to see how they're going to check and balance that), disarming militias, and offering amnesty to those "members of the resistance" who have not committed crimes (pretty standard stuff), and has set no time-table for the withdrawal of coalition forces.

I still have no idea how he gets "Murtha was right" out of this.

Now that this particular classified plan has been revealed to the terrorists by their allies in the Lamestream Media, I imagine it must now be completely revised.

Hay, idiot, how about just providing what the man said and not filling up on the usual crap from the LATinkle. The quote that counts, taken from your citation, is:

"The launch of this national reconciliation initiative should not be read as a reward for the killers and criminals or acceptance of their actions. No, one thousand times no. There can be no agreement with them unless they face the justice," he said.

The new Iraqi leader, in power just more than a month, said he was realistic about the difficult road that lay ahead.

"We realize that there is a legion of those who have tread the path of evil (who) ... will continue with their criminal acts," he said.

But he held out an offer of peace to those who would renounce violence, while threatening retribution and punishment to those who would not.

"To those who want to rebuild our country, we present an olive branch ... And to those who insist on killing and terrorism, we present a fist with the power of law to protect our country and people," he told lawmakers, who applauded his speech."

That is not exactly a ringing endorsement of the jihadists.

I think this is the complete David Brooks article on Kos...
Respect Must Be Paid

The Kingpin is not surprised by such betrayals. Sounding like Tom DeLay — who is his moral doppelgänger — Kos says that those who crash the gates and take on the establishment are bound to be attacked.

But the truth is that the new boss is little different from the old boss — only smaller. ...

And so the Kingpin has his relationships and his understandings and his networks and his compromises. In just a few short years he has achieved a level of self-importance it took those in the pre-blog political class decades to acquire.

He has challenged his enemy and become it.

Looks like the gate crashed Kos.

Purported Taliban Tape Blasts Afghanistan, U.S.

"They cannot solve the issue of Afghanistan based on their wisdom and thinking," the speaker said.

Ha. And he is putting this tape out from where... a cave?

Karzai did not comment on the tape's authenticity during an interview with a cable news network. But he said that if Omar is "really in charge," he should emerge from hiding and "face the danger that he is causing to hundreds of young people in Afghanistan and Pakistan."

"It needs guts to do what he's talking about, and he doesn't have it," Karzai told CNN's "Late Edition."
...
Karzai said Omar and the Taliban do not represent a threat to Afghanistan's government.

"They exist in the form of attacking schools, attacking children, killing innocent people," he said. "They are no match for our power."

Too true.

And there's also my license plate, which belonged to my father and referred to one of the ships he served on in WW2. I kept it after he died and I sold his car. Only one person has ever asked me what it means, but any Pacific Theater WW2 buff would get it immediately.

After terrorists attacked U.S. troops in Mogadishu, Somalia 12 years ago, anti-Iraq war Democrat, Rep. John Murtha urged then-President Clinton to begin a complete pullout of U.S. troops from the region.

Clinton took the advice and ordered the withdrawal - a decision that Osama bin Laden would later credit with emboldening his terrorist fighters and encouraging him to mount further attacks against the U.S.

"Our welcome has been worn out," Rep Murtha told NBC's "Today" show in Sept. 1993, a month after 4 U.S. Military Police had been killed in Somalia by a remote-detonated land mine.

The Pennsylvania Democrat announced that President Clinton had been "listening to our suggestions. And I think you'll see him move those troops out very quickly."

I don't begrudge Kos his house, or its remodel, or the flat-panel tv. But I bet his followers won't be pleased, particularly those who know what property in the Bay Area costs, and how much it costs to do even a minor remodel.

With the newly formed Iraqi government publicly calling for U.S. troops to be held accountable following accusations that 24 people were killed by marines at Haditha, the military says it will ensure troops avoid killing civilians in all circumstances...

I'd like to see that direct quote from the military.

We wish it could happen that way. There are no guarantees when the bad guys hide behind the innocents.

OT: CAIR: Deciding Who is a Muslim?

The council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has appointed itself an additional mission; deciding who may call themselves a “Muslim”. Various law enforcement agencies recently rounded up a group of seven Miami, Florida men on terrorism charges:

[Link: www.cnn.com...]

Shortly after the arrests, CAIR spokesperson Ahmed Bedier had this to say:

"Given that the reported beliefs of this bizarre group have nothing to do with Islam, we ask members of the media to refrain from calling them 'Muslims"

[Link: www.cair.com...]

The truth, an alien institution not quite fully understood or welcome at CAIR, may be an entirely different matter.

From CNN news:

“Narseal Batiste, considered the recruiter of the group, according to the document, tried to reach out to al Qaeda by contacting someone who was an FBI operative posing as a member of the terrorist network.”

“Batiste allegedly told the informant that he was organizing an Islamic army to wage a jihad in the United States.”

From the indictment:

"The conspirators pledged an oath to al Qaeda and supported a purported mission of al Qaeda to destroy FBI buildings within the United States."

“…document said that Batiste wanted to "attend al Qaeda training, along with five of his soldiers, during the second week of April and further detailed his mission to wage a 'full ground war' against the United States in order to 'kill all the devils we can' ... beginning with the destruction of the Sears Tower."

“…accuses the seven men of swearing an oath of loyalty to al Qaeda.”

Now that Bedier has demonstrated his new-found ability to determine just who is, and who is not, a Muslim, maybe he can help point out Muslim terrorists?

Mr. Bedier? North America is waiting…

the muslims at the mosque have built tunnels from the mosque to a building across the street.

Probably a standard feature for the headquarters of the invaders' army: it allows them to take weapons and explosives out of the mosque.

It would be interesting to know how many barracks of the invaders' army (aka mosques) have built in the States and if this feature is common...

That's what I was wondering. They don't grant those kind of easements to just anybody. And what possible compelling reason could there be? And seeing as it runs on public property, I wonder what kind of rights the authorities have to inspect it?

That detail, the tunnel, just strikes me as weird. Where do you put the dirt, how do you get the construction materials in, and, most of all, how do you put a tunnel under a city street without making the city in question very, very unhappy? You surely can't do it without notice.

How on earth did this happen? I really want to see the permit. Really. And the inspection reports, too.

This is just wild.

Obviously, they couldn't have done it without a permit, and an easement. They didn't just dig, I'm sure they got the road closed for a few days, cut the asphalt, dug deep with a very large backhoe, poured lots of concrete around lots of rebar, and generally did everything with the blessings of and cooperation of the local officials. Which is why you have to ask why? Or are they too intimidated by them to even ask?

My BS detector is registering on that one. I suspect that there might be another explanation. It might just be a utility conduit, drainage/sewer pipe or maybe even and underground tunnel for acsess from a parking lot across the street. If they were really going to use it as an escape tunnel they wouldn't have aquired permits.

It sounds like they do have permits, but I'd love to know how the hell they got a permit to build tunnels under a city street. I wonder if any other mosques in America have tunnels.

Chanting "GUILTY" and "Terrorism HERE!" as we point to the Culver City Mosque which has produced a great number of terrorists including two of the 911 hijackers. Also chanting "Tunnels Underground!" to let the neighborhood know that they have dug escape tunnels under the road from the mosque. This is confirmed by permits that have been uncovered and the mosque leaders did not deny it.

I'm thinking the "tunnel" might only be 6 inches in diameter for sewer pipes or utility lines. As far as an underground walkway; I used to live near a church on a busy street in the DC area, they had overflow parking across the street and the traffic on sundays were a nightmare. Backups for miles! they finaly put in a pedestrian overpass and all problems were solved.
Just think out loud on this, the tunnel claims just sound fishy to me.

Iraq PM Offers Olive Branch to Insurgents

"The launch of this national reconciliation initiative should not be read as a reward for the killers and criminals or acceptance of their actions. No, one thousand times no. There can be no agreement with them unless they face the justice," he said.

The new Iraqi leader, in power just more than a month, said he was realistic about the difficult road that lay ahead.

"We realize that there is a legion of those who have tread the path of evil (who) … will continue with their criminal acts," he said.

But he held out an offer of peace to those who would renounce violence, while threatening retribution and punishment to those who would not.

"To those who want to rebuild our country, we present an olive branch … And to those who insist on killing and terrorism, we present a fist with the power of law to protect our country and people," he told lawmakers, who applauded his speech...

It might not be a fishy as it sounds. They have almost no arterial intersections in Riyadh, because they have overpass/underpass intersections all over. If the Saudis are funding this, they may simply have said "do it", without considering costs or alternatives.

Utilities would belong to the local government, and not the mosque. If there's a tunnel that connects the two mosque facilities, and they had to get a permit for it, it's not utilities.

It could be the usual PC syndrome: THEY declare that they need a tunnel for their "religious" ceremonies and the city promptly bows to the multi-culti philosophy...

As someone who provides technical review (transportation engineering) for development proposals, that isn't exclusive to the "PC police-protected" religions.

There have been a couple of cases where someone has thrown out an argument that they needed ___ (a 90,000 sf church 15 miles out in the country, were exempt from the usual development conditions applied to an equivalent traffic generating use, etc.) for their "religious freedoms", and (basically) extended their collective middle fingers at those who would have to live next door to this activity.

There's only one group whom I've never seen try to pull a fast one, or use this trump card/get out of mitigation 'free' card, in my 22 years doing this... the LDS church. Straight shooters. Play by the same rules. Nice people.

It's not exactly that, yet. But Kos' reactions and the self-savaging that's likely to follow (hint, the Newsweek piece isn't going to make his readers happy), may actually help Hilary.

This is interesting, in a meta-political kind of way. None of this is of immediate interest, because it's too early to have any impact on the mid-terms or 2008. I really think this has everything to do with positioning, and investigating who the Democratic candidate really wants as an ally.

Jerome Armstrong has taken time away from his astrology and shady stock deals to bless us with an LLL attempt at blogging about Eurabia...
Europe = Left = Islamic terrorism. 'Eurabia' slander pushed by MSM
by Jerome a Paris

The Economist has a stunningly offensive front page this week, recycling one of the worst talking points of the US right wing, that of "Eurabia", which encapsulates a mix of glee (that Europe is weak, unable to defend itself and declining), fear (that it will be used as a base to attack the US) and contempt (that it let itself be destroyed by such an enemy)...

First lie: Immigrant = Muslim = Arab (the article makes no such claim nor does the quotation he cites-ed)
...
Second lie: The rioters in France last year were 'Muslims' (the graph show the majority were French citizens of African descent, he imagines that this is proof the they weren't Muslims-ed)

You'd think he would have enough sense to lay low for a while and stop embarassing himself and the LLL any further.

Okay, seems like those who insist on being Miserable Minions need some understanding of what the Iraqi Army is gaining.

The Iraq Battalions are becoming quickly self-reliant. They have their own Humvees, their own armored vehicles on which they are trained (I had to see this to believe it) and their own communications equipment. Their administration and logistics are handled through their own Iraqi chain of command that goes straight to the Ministry of Defense in Baghdad. For an example, an Iraqi contractor is assigned to supply the 7th Iraqi Army with fuel and food. If the fuel is late, or the food doesn’t come, then Iraqi Commanders must fix this problem using their own chain of command (not by complaining to the MiT Team). The Americans are no longer responsible for fixing every little problem.

It's getting there.

These people have never been able to think for themselves, because islam regiments them not to think or solve problems.

We are busting that bad habit out in so many ways.

That protest I linked to in Culver City is trumpeting that the Muslims at the mosque have built tunnels from the mosque to a building across the street.

Very interesting story you linked to (Culver City Mosque --Jihad Central). When I saw trumpeting, I (mis)took it to mean bragging. To clarify, that's not the case at all:

All of the middle easterners you see in the pictures below are Coptic Christians from Egypy, for the entire evening not ONE Muslim would join us in condemning the tortures of our two soldiers, and in fact some of them yelled out that the two soldiers deserved "what they had coming to them" because they were "in a Muslim land."
[snip]
Chanting "GUILTY" and "Terrorism HERE!" as we point to the Culver City Mosque which has produced a great number of terrorists including two of the 911 hijackers. Also chanting "Tunnels Underground!" to let the neighborhood know that they have dug escape tunnels under the road from the mosque.

From the report, [The mosque produced] also Sgt. Akbar who threw grenades at his fellow troops early on in the Iraq war...

The inevitable is quite simply, a world-wide-war with Isalm. History tells us it's happened before, with mixed results, and NOW is simply the modern experience of the same. Whether we're fighting them, or they're fighting us, it's simply an extension of time immortal. Right now I smell the potant, imported ciggaette smoke comimg from my young arab-Muslim neighbor. I've mentioned him before. I'm going to go outside and small-talk with him. Maybe I'll learn something. Maybe not. Maybe he's okay. I have my doubts.

And stabbed an MP in the neck with a pair of scissors here on Fort Bragg.

Some idiot left the scissors on the table during the meeting with his attorneys. Akbar hid them, then asked to go to the bathroom so that his shackles would be removed. He came out and attacked the MP. Went for the MP's gun. The MP f*cked him up pretty good.

The ambulance crew racing to the JAG office that day had much more work to do on Akbar than the MP.

Of course the US is more dangerous than North Korea and Iran. It's all so clear now. Thanks for straightening all of us willing dupes out. /you have got to be kidding

The US has the capacity for restraint, but push the US too far, and we'll use all manner of power to eliminate threats against us.

North Korea and Iran's national interests are antithetical to the world's future. North Korea is a failed state whose leadership would much rather let people starve than take his finger off the button of nuclear weapons. Billions spent on weapons, and the country starves.

Iran's national interests are expressed in terms of spreading Islam, da'wa, and submission to Islam is paramount. Not only do the Iranians want the West to submit to Islam, but they've got their own issues with the Sunni Muslims as well.

And the North Koreans have no problem working with the Iranians and anyone else to swap technology and know-how.

For what purpose? To totally change the balance of power as it is currently constituted.

Think about that for a moment. The Iranians want to do what Osama and his ilk want to do, but they have the force of a nation state to do so. They want to institute shari'a and the choice presented is submit or die.

Yep. I am from Western PA as well, and if it wasnt for the very strong union contingent in Pittsburgh, the area would be considered conservative IMO.

However, if the republicans would actually take a strong stand on illegal immigration, while the democrats take the other side of amnesty, that might hit into their traditional union support.

"It would be interesting to know how many barracks of the invaders' army (aka mosques) have built in the States and if this feature is common..."

===

Fifteen years ago there were two, maybe three in the DC/Baltimore metroplex.

Now, there are over thirty, closer to forty. The bigger ones sporting multiple large satelite dishes, eight-foot fences with razor wire, and sophisticated video camera systems. The smaller ones usually just tucked into obscure strip malls and office buildings. (One of the three in my town, linked to 9/11, was in the first floor of a large bank/office building. They had taken over the failed bank's location, with it's vault intact.)

All in a circle around DC.

I suspect that they would be this areas fastest growing minority population, after the deluge from down south.

Glad we agree on Moonbat Murtha being nothing but a POS.

"Invade" was strictly my rhetoric.
I get sick and tired of distortions and lies from the looney left going unchallenged.
"Invade" may be a bit of an exageration, but no more so, and probably a lot more accurate, than the terms the BDS crowd chooses to use.

Mark Steyn said it very nicely in his column today:

You gotta hand it to these guys: "Redeployment" is ingenious. I'll bet the focus-group consultants were delirious: "surrender," "lose,","scram," "scuttle ignominiously," "head for the hills" all polled poorly, but "redeploy" surveyed well with all parts of the base, except the base in Okinawa, where they preferred "sayonara" -- that's "redeploy" in any language. The Defeaticrats have a clear message for the American people. Read da ploy: No new quagmires.

It's well worth reading the rest.

Imagine that.
Your link brings up the subject of the Mobile labs again.

One of the problems with Curveball was that he wasn't an American asset. The Germans had Curveball, and the CIA had to rely on information supplied by the Germans on his intelligence. The Germans had reviewed his extensive details on the science of his information on Iraqi WMD and concluded that he was a credible source on WMD, and communicated that to the Americans. They refused to stand behind it when the US wanted to use the information as part of their overall argument for deposing Saddam Hussein, which Drumheller and the Post spins as relating to Curveball's credibility with the Germans. However, given German involvement with Saddam Hussein, that could have been a political calculation rather than an intelligence evaluation, something the Post and Drumheller never bother to address.

And optimism doesn't equate blindness or head in the sand (for those with comprehension problems).

Actually, the more information that I have been privileged to gain from those people who have been to Iraq and Afghanistan has made me much more optimistic than I was before.

I came to LGF in the Spring of '04 thinking that I needed to re-read all of the End Times Prophecy that I delved into since my Twenties.

I found much stronger people here than I was. Once I realized that LGF had so many subject matter experts in so many areas that I had no exposure too, I got strong.

Open Letter From Mother of Lt. Ehren Watada, Resister of Illegal War

I am the mother of Lt. Ehren Watada, an officer stationed at Ft. Lewis. He is part of a Stryker brigade unit that deployed today to Iraq. Despite an unflinching commitment to his men and to democratic ideals, he chose not to accompany his men. His decision came through much soul-searching and through research and consultation with experts across disciplines, inside and outside of the military and the government.

I invite you to affirm your support of Lt. Ehren Watada on June 27th, National Day of Action. On this day, groups across the country will participate in peaceful demonstrations, prayer services, candlelight vigils, parades, leafleting, visitations to recruitment stations to provide counsel to prospective recruits, etc.

Your son deserves to spend a long time in federal prison. He signed up in 2003 and knew exactly what he was getting into. Maybe he could get a reduced sentence if he leads the authorities to the bigger fish, the ones who preach sedition and groomed him for this "direct action." I hope the prosecutors promise him that and withdraw their promise, just like your son did.

355 Stuck-in-CA  Sun, Jun 25, 2006 1:22:14pm

Shall we pull all the cops out of California because there is still a "triangle of death" in So. Central Los Angeles, Mr. Murtha? There are probably as many murders in that one part of town than in all of Iraq over the course of a year...and we aren't even at war! Los Angeles had 518 killings in 2004 alone. That's just one city.

Get a clue, Murtha, you senile old fool.

I've seen hints of folks looking into Murtha's background. If a Repub ex-military can go bad, just think of the stuff a Demo ex-military can get into. After all, he'll couple the strategic thinking of the military with the total lack of any morality consistantly demonstrated by Kos and the gang.

If we pull out now, since according to you the whole war was a lie and we should not be there, where are all the little Jihadis going to go? The Saudis, the Jordanians, the Iranians, the Egyptians, etc. They are terrorists and they are fighting us there now. Are they just going to open up hot dog stands? Are they going to declare victory against the Great Satan and go home?

Are they going to declare "We have just beaten the Great Satan! Now we are going to EuroDisney World!

Where they gonna go Joe?

362 Jamie  Sun, Jun 25, 2006 1:27:46pm

OT, but very important.

At Kos, of all places, I found someone bring to light the disgusting hatchet job al-Independent did on a quote by Olmert.

"I am deeply sorry for the residents of Gaza, but the lives, security and well-being of the residents of Sderot is no less important." -Olmert (emphasis added)

Now check out al-Independent's version (emphasis added again):

"I am deeply sorry for the residents of Gaza, but the lives, security and well-being of the residents of Sderot [the Israeli border town which has borne the brunt of Qassam attacks] is even more important. I reject the attacks on the IDF and its commanders. No one is more dedicated or more cautious, and will continue to be so in the future."

For reference's sake, this is the Kos diary I saw. Of course, there is the typical idiot apologia and Israel-hating.

Charles, can you bring this latest outrage from the Independent to light?

For the first time since its leaders took control of the Palestinian government in March, Hamas militants led a sophisticated pre-dawn attack Sunday on an Israeli military outpost along the Gaza border, killing two soldiers and abducting a third.

[Link: www.jpost.com...]

The Aksa Martyrs' Brigades group announced on Sunday that it its members have succeeded in manufacturing chemical and biological weapons to be used against Israel.

In a leaflet distributed in the Gaza Strip, the group, which belongs to Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas's Fatah party, said the weapons were the result of an effort that has lasted for three years.

The statment was a response to an Israeli Security Cabinet decision to give the IDF the green light to prepare all the forces necessary for a military operation against Gaza terror cells.

As of 9:00 p.m. a large contingency of Golani and Givati Brigade infantry troops, along with elite units, were amassing on the Israeli side of the Gaza security fence for a possible ground operation there to rescue kidnapped soldier Cpl. Gilad Shalit.

According to the statement, the first of its kind, the group managed to manufacture and develop at least 20 different types of biological and chemical weapons.

The group said its members would not hesitate to add the new weapons to long-range rockets that are being fired at Israeli communities almost every day. It also threatened to use the weapons against IDF soldiers if Israel carried out its threats to invade the Gaza Strip.

"We want to tell [Prime Minister Ehud] Olmert and [Defense Minister Amir] Peretz that your threats don't frighten us," the leaflet said. "We will surprise you with our new weapons the moment the first soldier sets his foot in the Gaza Strip."

426 Tinker  Sun, Jun 25, 2006 2:48:23pm

Murtha, Kos, Kerry, Hillary, Cindy - when an entire American political party runs off a cliff logically, intellectually and morally, that's a terrifying thing. Even William Buckley made a point of finding articulate, principled and (semi-)logical liberal opponents on his show Firing Line. If he ever resurrected that show, it would consist exclusively of him tapping his feet and, with raised eyebrows, waiting for a worthy opponent to show up and occupy the debating seat opposite him.

Old Confucian saying: "The courage of your enemy does you honor." But what does the cowardice of your enemy leave you with? Shame that such people exist?

In the political arena, winning by default degrades the entire polity because the winner's ideas haven't been audited by a principled opposition.

How can any Democrat not be ashamed of his/her party these days?

I would like to defend Murta. He has called upon us to "redeploy". This is also technically called a "French Assault". This maneuver is performed by initiating a double ninety degree attack, followed by an advancement to the rear, while out-distancing the enemy. This induces the enemy to expose their resources by retreating outward from their positions. Further, the enemy is humiliated by having to view the backsides of the gallant retreaters uh, attackers. Utilized correctly, this strategem can ensure the safety of both sides...Isn't that what war is all about?
