Sun, Sep 30, 2007 at 4:48:28 pm PDT

UPDATE at 9/30/07 6:29:51 pm:

I know a lot of LGF readers are upset about this. But don’t forget John Cox Art, where John continues to post his excellent work.

"I also want to stop focusing so much of my creative energy on negative aspects of daily life. There's still an ideological battle to be fought, not to mention an actual war, and I will stay engaged in some form and medium. But at this point, anything seems more appealing than immersing myself in the sewer of daily politics."

I wonder how you do it ,too Charles, keeping abreast of all the insanity. I for one am glad for the work that C&F have done and your daily contribution to keeping the moonbats at bay as best we can.

8 Shug  Sun, Sep 30, 2007 4:52:48pm

I still laugh every time I look at their cartoon on the top of LGF

9 mjk  Sun, Sep 30, 2007 4:53:03pm

I'll miss them, but good on them to continue in the ways that they can.

Good luck, guys. Your editorial cartoons are fabulous and good luck with all your future endeavors.

too bad. funny, intelligent, and talented is how i would describe their work.

11 sandspur  Sun, Sep 30, 2007 4:53:32pm

It's the end of the world as we know it (and I don't feel fine).

Thanks, C&F, you will be missed.
No one else illustrates the events of our time quite as succinctly.

End of a one-of-a-kind era. Good luck guys.

13 BeerForMyHorses  Sun, Sep 30, 2007 4:53:56pm

Bullet holes in the curtains. Knives embedded in the stage. Rotten fruit all around. As the guy with the Uncle Sam hat genteelly bows. Great finale. Says it all.

14 Sharmuta  Sun, Sep 30, 2007 4:53:57pm

We've lost a valuable voice- this one expressed through art. But with the reactions we're seeing from certain other cartoons, and the continued onslaught against our freedom of expression- who will rise up to take their place? Who would want to?

I wish you guys the best and have my wish list of your books. You have been the only editorial cartoonists whose work I've liked without question in my many years. Good luck. Nothing, except for Uncle Sam taking a bow, can beat that big ol' green lizard at the top of this blog. He da Kingfish.

21 Pvt Bin Jammin  Sun, Sep 30, 2007 4:57:52pm

23 surrounded by moonbats  Sun, Sep 30, 2007 4:59:10pm

Selfishly I"m very sorry to see them bow out, but wish them the best.

re: #17 buzzsawmonkey

There would be no greater testament to their influence than someone should fill that void. The power of inspiration can go a long way- you never know who you may touch and inspire with your own words and deeds. We all have a potential to change someone's life for the betterment of humanity.

27 NY Nana  Sun, Sep 30, 2007 5:00:55pm

28 livfreeordie  Sun, Sep 30, 2007 5:01:26pm

Darn ! I did buy all their books. Maybe they will be back someday. I just sent Charles $10 via PayPal as a heartfelt token of gratitude. He is immensely valuable...

29 troonbop  Sun, Sep 30, 2007 5:03:19pm

I've appreciated it and thank you.
BTW, you mention publishing a "small newspaper" - I've been in that line of work, and can testify the headaches and work are inversely proportional to the size of the newspaper. Amazed you could do both so well.

30 Thanos  Sun, Sep 30, 2007 5:03:50pm

Thanks to the both of you if you read this for all of the inspiration, the insight, and especially the humor. It was well appreciated.

No political cartoonists nailed the events since 9/11 like Cox & Forkum. And when some future event creates a temptation to crank out another one, I hope you guys will give in now and then. Thanks for the years of great laughs and nail on the head messages.

39 wanumba  Sun, Sep 30, 2007 5:10:37pm

I hope they sign mine to Noam Sayin' and not my human name.

From their web site:

I also want to stop focusing so much of my creative energy on negative aspects of daily life. There's still an ideological battle to be fought, not to mention an actual war, and I will stay engaged in some form and medium. But at this point, anything seems more appealing than immersing myself in the sewer of daily politics.

That said, I imagine we won't be able to resist creating an occasionally editorial cartoon. And if we do, we'll post it here.

Best of luck to both Cox and Forkum. Such amazing talent.
I certainly understand the need to step back and get away from the disintegrating political grind. With the Clinton's poised to take over again - it's getting more depressing by the day.

51 Geepers  Sun, Sep 30, 2007 5:18:51pm

Gotta get those books. In the meantime a friend I admire on the internet had a funny one....

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad visited the U.S. recently. President Bush, known for his difficulty with names (especially those not in English), developed a list of less formal terms to address the guest dignitary.

* Abracadabra

* Bad Mamma Jamma

* El Presidente: Persian Version

* A-Jad

* A. Jiddy

* On a Dinner Jihad (also useful when dieting)

* Ahmizzle Dijizzle

* The Denier

* Nolocaust

* Shah Nah Nah

* Kareem Abdul the Other Guy

* Nomohomos

* Pajama Dad (only on White House sleepovers)

* Mekka Lekka Hi (upon entrance); Mekka Hiney Ho (upon exiting)

* Sim Sim Sala Bite Me

* Mah Mood IS FLUSTERATED 'CAUSE I HAVE TO LEARN ALL THESE DANG FOREIGNESIAN NAMES

* Rock the Caz Boss

* Sheik 'n' Beak

* Uranium Enrichie Cunningham

* Hey, Didn't Unca Ronnie Reagan Already Kick Your Ass, Like, a Hundred Years Ago?

* Al Jarreau Al-Jazeera

* Swami Salami Bah-Frickin'-Loony

the last one was my favorite lol!

They've done stellar work these past years, and with unabashed pride in the goodness of America, and the value of Western Civilization.

Sad to see them go, they will be missed.

On a similar note, I don't know how you keep up the pace Charles -- day in and day out shedding light on islamofascism and its apologists home and abroad.  Six+ years without a break or vacation.  I hope you have some outlet available (such as smashing old Cadillac bumpers with a sledgehammer), to keep the madness from getting to you.  Thanks for doing what you do.

Their cartoons were thoughtful, funny, and touching.
As someone who was in lower Manhattan on 9/11, I found the drawing of the firefighters climbing the stairs in one of the twin towers while the civilian office workers descended the most memorable drawn image of the bravery the rescuers showed that day.

Good luck, guys - here's hoping you change your minds.

From Jihad Watch. The map is one of the ugliest things I have ever seen. If this is the future, the human race is in for a nasty time. Can you say "Dark Ages"?

107 rorschach  Sun, Sep 30, 2007 6:03:51pm

Well fellers, your site was one of my favorite stops online. You will be missed.

On the other hand, maybe neither of you will be out of circulation for too awful long. Here's hoping.

108 The Sanity Inspector  Sun, Sep 30, 2007 6:12:55pm

I lost track of all the times they boosted my morale, by roaring defiance at the jihadists and pouring scorn on the loony left. Well done and good luck, guys! And thanks Charles, for introducing them to me.

109 markie  Sun, Sep 30, 2007 6:22:03pm

I hope they both find more enjoyable ways of being a thorn in the proper people's sides in the future. Thanks for the memories, guys.

110 USBeast  Sun, Sep 30, 2007 6:24:26pm

Say it ain't so!

We don't need to lose them. We need hundreds more like them!

The one faint hope I have is that this is a ploy to get a syndicate to offer them a huge contract that will let them live the life of decadent luxury I'd like to live. If this is the case, I hope they are successful.

To help tide them over, I will buy their latest book.

Good luck guys.

My best to you and yours,

U. S. Beast

This is how I felt when Calvin & Hobbes stopped appearing. To this day I am still waiting for Bill Watterson to magically appear and say he was only kidding.

113 Logan  Sun, Sep 30, 2007 6:49:52pm

Consistently one of the best, and most honest, political cartoons out there. Will be missed by at least one Canadian!

114 Onslow  Sun, Sep 30, 2007 6:56:43pm
115 MarineGrunt  Sun, Sep 30, 2007 6:59:48pm

Say it ain't so, I for one will miss them.
Just purchased their new book, least i can do for all the enjoyment I had reading their comics.

116 Aylios  Sun, Sep 30, 2007 6:59:58pm

Pity, I loved those awesome cartoons.

117 Blackacre  Sun, Sep 30, 2007 7:03:42pm

I loved the work. You guys done good. Come back and visit.

118 Afterimage  Sun, Sep 30, 2007 7:07:28pm

What a bummer. I really loved their 'toons and I hate to see them bow out.

119 libertyvista  Sun, Sep 30, 2007 7:10:21pm

I will miss C&F political cartoons. Best of luck to them in their other ventures.

120 Macker  Sun, Sep 30, 2007 7:11:44pm

I will always be grateful to John Cox and Allen Forkum for the inspiration they gave me to record these parodies, based on their following works...
Save Yourself:
C&F / Commercial
Nuke Boost:
C&F / Commercial

Best of luck to you both!

121 Malatrope  Sun, Sep 30, 2007 7:14:17pm

Remember that Chris Muir dropped away for awhile, due to pressing family issues, but he came back better than ever. We can all hope that C&F will reconsider and find away to continue without losing their sanity and their souls.

www.coxandforkum.com is my top bookmark in my "Opinion" menu. I will leave it there in hope, and, if they choose not to return, I will leave it there in memoriam.

Bravo, guys! You've really made an impact.

122 Malatrope  Sun, Sep 30, 2007 7:16:20pm

Gaah, PINMF at all: that's "...find a way...", not "...find away..."

123 Cap'n DOC  Sun, Sep 30, 2007 7:16:47pm

Charles - Who has the original of you in the Captain's chair?

If you don't, I'd be willing to fork over a few coins just so you can hang it next to your - Domain?

124 Jagan  Sun, Sep 30, 2007 7:22:16pm

Its a Sad day.

Charles' writings accompanied by succinent drawings of Cox&Forkum were unbeatable anywhere else on the blogosphere.

LGF just lost a fantastic one-of-a-kind feature! I hope Charles would commission one or two cartoons now and then.

Cheers and Goodbye.

125 Forkum  Sun, Sep 30, 2007 7:34:01pm

Thanks for the kind words, everyone. Those in this thread who have recognized the work the Charles has to put into this wonderfully site are right. To do what he does day in and day out is truly amazing. Believe me, we're lucky to have him. Thanks, Charles. For everything you do.

126 nigella  Sun, Sep 30, 2007 7:43:21pm

This is terrible! Where am I going to go for such great cartoons? Please reconsider!

127 jwbaumann  Sun, Sep 30, 2007 7:52:33pm

I just realized something.

There are other editorial cartoonists out there, aren't there?

I had forgotten.

128 Dar ul Harb  Sun, Sep 30, 2007 7:55:38pm

Fantastic body of work guys!

Even if it won't be daily, I know the work will continue. Such creativity has to have an outlet.

Every good wish to both of you.

129 PeaceBeUponHim  Sun, Sep 30, 2007 8:05:01pm

Their cartoons were often very innovative, biting and honest, so this is a shame. Best of luck to you in your future endeavors guys!

130 big L  Sun, Sep 30, 2007 8:18:58pm

Well, it prob has to do with the Secret of LFG and the indymedia dog and, well, the Weekly Zionist Check...maybe the check was delayed and they had to move on, so to speak.

I can empathize with the comment of rolling around in the muck of the political milieu these days.It is depressing. but at least Charles has brought it to our attention. No one was covering it before, zip, zero, nothing.

I hope you both find cheerful work that pays a lot.

131 kmclay  Sun, Sep 30, 2007 8:25:55pm

Boo hoo.

I am bereft.

But best wishes to C & F. You really have made a difference.

132 leepro  Sun, Sep 30, 2007 8:31:15pm

As the daughter of a multi-award-winning cartoonist, I must say (sorry, Daddy) no one holds a candle to these two! They will be sorely missed.

Don't you go anywhere, now, Johnson. :)

134 Randman  Sun, Sep 30, 2007 8:49:13pm

How friggen sad.

135 Paul  Sun, Sep 30, 2007 9:13:07pm

A voice of sanity gone, in this world of Rall and Trudeau they'll be sorely missed.

136 scrubone  Sun, Sep 30, 2007 9:17:24pm

Possibly the best cartoons in the world.
Thanks for everything guys.

137 Loki_1972  Sun, Sep 30, 2007 9:19:23pm

Thank you, sirs, for the many years of wonderful editorial cartoons.

138 WestchesterJeff  Sun, Sep 30, 2007 9:37:51pm

I second what everyone else has said. I'll miss C & F. Out of habit, I'll probably continue to visit the site every day or so.
I accidentally left their "Outed" ("no homosexuals in Iran) cartoon in the copier at work; one of my moonbat coworkers posted it. Something for everyone.

139 HeatherRadish  Sun, Sep 30, 2007 9:44:08pm

I hope they'll consider continuing the annual Memorial Day tributes; those are some of my favorites.

The Goracle ones are great, too; I get a lot of nasty comments when I share them. *grin*

140 Athos  Sun, Sep 30, 2007 9:52:18pm

Thank you John and Allen for all of your creativity and superb visual messages!

141 The Monster  Sun, Sep 30, 2007 9:56:55pm

I couldn't figure out what Chris Muir was getting at in the Day by Day for tomorrow. Duh.

Make it a semi-retirement, OK?

143 The Albatross  Sun, Sep 30, 2007 10:02:06pm

It is a sad day after all, I'll be missing Cox and Forkum for a long LONG time to come. I really appreciated their work.

Via con Dios and I sure hope to see your work again.

144 jihadnemesis  Sun, Sep 30, 2007 10:06:12pm

Thanks for the great cartoons. They were right on target and really highlighted some liberal and Islamofascist hypocrisy.

145 valkyrie  Sun, Sep 30, 2007 10:11:33pm

I am so sad! Thank you Cox and Forkum for all your amazing work. You have been a voice and vision of clarity in these very dangerous and disturbing times...and made us laugh along the way. All the best to the both of you.

146 Alberta Oil Peon  Sun, Sep 30, 2007 10:21:34pm

It's a shame that C&F have to go into hiatus. But sometimes life just gets in the way. Best of luck in your future endeavors, gentlemen. Perhaps, one day, a return to regular cartooning will be possible.

147 Ward Cleaver  Sun, Sep 30, 2007 10:33:25pm

John, Chris - I will miss you guys. Your cartoons say in a single image what it take 10,000 words to. I wish you the best, and God bless you.

Good grief, how lame - I meat John and Allen. I hope to see new C&F cartoons again someday.

149 unixrab  Sun, Sep 30, 2007 10:36:22pm

you guys are great..... .... make a "come back" soon!

150 johnston45  Sun, Sep 30, 2007 10:40:28pm

I will never forget the first time I saw a Cox and Forkum cartoon. I was browsing through a website looking at some awesome t-shirts when I found a cartoon which stopped me in my tracks. There was a wounded soldier lying in a hospital bed. He has bandaged hands and cannot use the keyboard. Floating above the keyboard was a tiny Soldiers Angel typing the words he said, "Dear Mom." It was a tribute to the Operation Valour-IT voice activated laptops. Dang, I still love that cartoon. I have since discovered the wonderful world of Cox and Forkum and have purchased your books and will also purchase the last. Your work is wonderful, guys, and we will miss you.

151 American Jewess In Jerusalem  Sun, Sep 30, 2007 11:09:26pm

Oh no! Cox and Forkum's absence will definitely leave a void, but I must say that I do understand Allen's reasons for needing to move on. Thank you, John and Allen, for giving us all the gift of your world class political cartoons. In fact, given the state of the world today, that doesn't sound like much of a compliment, does it? You are far above "the world." Your cartoons are in a class by themselves. Good luck to you both.

152 bryantms  Sun, Sep 30, 2007 11:13:06pm

I'm literally speechless. Cox & Forkum made some of the best cartoons ever! I will miss them more than anyone will ever know because their cartoons were a release for me. I checked their site daily...so sad.

153 zulubaby  Sun, Sep 30, 2007 11:21:16pm

This is sad news. They will be missed.

Forkum wrote:

I also want to stop focusing so much of my creative energy on negative aspects of daily life. There's still an ideological battle to be fought, not to mention an actual war, and I will stay engaged in some form and medium. But at this point, anything seems more appealing than immersing myself in the sewer of daily politics.

This I understand. I have been on total burnout and that's just as someone immersed in all things war and politics as an observer and commentator, not in any kind of professional capacity. I switched everything off. It's one of the main reasons I stopped posting here so much ... I couldn't bear to look. I can't begin to imagine how difficult it must be to create out of that negativity, and on a daily basis. I'm sorry Cox and Forkum are coming to an end, but I understand why.

All this makes brings into sharp focus what a gem Charles is. To do what he does without wavering -- he is the steadiest and sanest voice out there. Nothing but admiration for you, Charles; you're one in a million. Thank you for everything, for keeping so many of us sane in a world gone mad. I would be lost without you.

154 Chap  Sun, Sep 30, 2007 11:46:27pm

re: #153 zulubaby

Probably why it's much easier being a moonbat - you can have an opinion and be heard, but it doesn't need as nearly as much brain power.

Very sad to see them go, but I wish them all the best.

156 MeatPopsicle  Mon, Oct 1, 2007 2:10:11am
Over the years we've received many letters of encouragement from all over the world and from all across the political spectrum. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Of course, we've received our share of criticism too, but surprisingly little of the hate mail so common on the Internet.

True pro's, all the way. Professionalism so apparent, even the moonbats wouldn't take the time to flood your inbox, Mr Cox & Forkum.

I've been a fan of your editorial cartoons, as well as some of your other projects, for several years. I'm looking forward to seeing your future endeavors.

Thanks.

De nada.

In the immortal words of Bob Hope:

We said goodbye with a highball,
And I got as high as a steeple,
But we were intelligent people....
No tears, no fuss....
Hooray for us....
and.....

Thanks for the memories,
And strictly entre nous,
Darling, how are you?
And how are all the little things
That never did come true?
Aw'fly glad I met you,
Cheerio, and toodle-oo,
And thank you so much!

I imagine that the Leftie blogosphere is celebrating right now. How come none of the lefite editorial cartoonists seems willing to hang it up?

159 Eagle  Mon, Oct 1, 2007 5:57:17am

It was through C&F that I found LGF.

Thanks Cox and Forkum, you will be missed.

160 Eagle  Mon, Oct 1, 2007 5:57:49am

Wait! What about the future Fiskies?!?!?!

161 SonOfLiberty  Mon, Oct 1, 2007 6:07:11am

To be honest, C&F is the reason I'm a Lizard.

So many times while reading C&F cartoons I saw links to LGF and came over here to read up on the news that wasn't printed. So many times I started my day with C&F to lighten my mood and get a laugh for the day going before hitting LGF - helped load the sarcasm shotgun up sometimes.

C&F - thanks to you guys for a fantastic, fantastic collection of cartoons. I still go back and rifle through the archives regularly just for laughs. Well among other things - your constant tracking of the Iran situation has been, imo, invaluable.

Thank you, gents. Thanks for everything. Godspeed and best of luck in all that you guys do!

164 TexasAC  Mon, Oct 1, 2007 7:15:40am

"Political cartoons" have been my favorite reading for over seventy years. When the mainline press cartoonists became severely slanted and thoughtless, I quit the papers and discovered C&F in LGF. What a refreshing change in my daily reading and pondering political cartoons.

Great work guys...your futures hold a lot.

Thanks, Charles for letting us know.

165 Blueprinter  Mon, Oct 1, 2007 7:20:10am

Thanks guys, for all the memorable cartoons.
Funny, poignant, passionate, scathing and always relevant and to the point.
Tough act to follow.

166 Clutch  Mon, Oct 1, 2007 7:22:58am

Just. Damn.

Why these guys and not that putrid hack Turdeau? Or Loser Luckovich (whose scribbles are pre-kindergarten-ish at best). Why the good guys and not the traitors? Just. Friggen. Damn.

My fantasy was always that the Atlanta Urinal & Constipation would fire Luckovich and hire C&F as his replacement. Now that will never happen... :(

167 ruexperienced  Mon, Oct 1, 2007 7:33:25am

Wow.

A tremendous loss in the fight for sanity in this world.

A big debt of gratitude for the preeminent political cartoonists/satirists of our troubled times.

You will be SORELY missed but good luck and Godspeed to both of you in your new endeavours.

RU

168 RedDish  Mon, Oct 1, 2007 7:34:44am

Drive by farewell

Thanks C&F. You were a bright spot on my morning surfing. You will be missed on a daily basis, but looking forward to your insight on an occasional one. All the best.

169 Golem Akbar  Mon, Oct 1, 2007 7:35:22am

Transition is a good thing. Change is a good thing. Moving on is a good thing. That having been said: C & F will be sorely missed. It will be tough to replace them. I really enjoyed their humor, poignancy, and heart.

I felt that bad when Calvin and Hobbes was put to bed.

170 uncle_monkey  Mon, Oct 1, 2007 7:37:56am

Terrible news to start the day with.

I'll miss the cartoons dearly, something I always checked and looked forward to.

I can however, completely understand Allen's reasoning for wanting to get out of it - I go into periodic brain drain just looking at LGF and related blogs.

Thanks for everything C&F, and best of luck in all future endeavors!

171 orson  Mon, Oct 1, 2007 8:17:34am

DAMMIT !

Thanx, C&F. The only bad thing I can say about them, is it is very hard to decide which one of their comics made the best P.C. wallpaper.

Again, I say, DAMMIT !

172 TalkinKamel  Mon, Oct 1, 2007 8:24:43am

This is terrible news. The current newspaper comic strip/political cartoon scene is already unspeakably dreary, choc-full of Leftiwing no-talent cartoonists, usually rendering bad depictions of President Bush looking like a monkey, and anti-big business screeds.

As for the strips, we have Trudeau, who really isn't funny, dismal soap opera strips such as "For Better or Worse" (I say it's worse, and I say to hell with it), "Funky Winkerbean" (there's a name for ya) which tried to blame the Oklahoma City bombing on evil talk radio, Ted, "Psycho", Rall, who isn't funny either (none of them are), "Kathy" and "Love is" (what the (**&^^%%$$^& is this stuff?) and Berke Breathed, who got banned for being insensitive to Islam, which, I suppose, serves him right, because, as I recall, he was quite contemptuous of the Mo'Toon artists when they got into trouble. Appeasement gets ya nowhere, Berke (and no, you're not funny either.)

(Please note, by the way, all the support that's been forthcoming for Berke from his fellow comic artists, which is, as far as I know, absolutely zilch----I think he's gotten more support from LGF than he has has from his fellow artists. Couldn't Ted Rall even do on nasty little one-page scribble for a banned cartoonist?)

Folks, the general culture needs to be lizardized at this point! It's not funny, it's not dramatic, it's not even especially interesting! We need to take back the popular culture!

173 htom  Mon, Oct 1, 2007 8:52:41am

John and Allen -- thank you. You've made a depressing world brighter for me, and brought many burst-out-laughing moments to my office. Blessings on your future efforts, and to you and yours.

174 mungagungadin  Mon, Oct 1, 2007 10:08:49am

Gah! Quitting? I'm sick about this. I loved those cartoons.

This just means that we must add you to the list of important artists to support when we completely succeed in the rat race and can become patron saints. Or at least patrons. You and zombie need to be freed to contribute to our great debate. I'll start looking for leprechauns.

175 lanmaster  Mon, Oct 1, 2007 10:23:50am

What a bummer.
I always thought their editorial toons were right on the mark.

First Nowak has vanished, and now this.

It's been a rough month for Conservative toon junkies, indeed.

176 our gal sal  Mon, Oct 1, 2007 11:47:09am

178 DEZes  Mon, Oct 1, 2007 3:08:46pm

Cox & Forkum.
Thank you for the entertainment.
Best wishes, And good luck.

179 BeckoningChasm  Mon, Oct 1, 2007 4:25:39pm

That's a terrible shame. They did excellent work, and while I'm sure they will continue to do excellent work elsewhere, their political cartoons were particularly sharp.

180 Mike Z as in Jersey  Mon, Oct 1, 2007 7:21:24pm

Thanks for all the great political cartoons over the last few years. I have really enjoyed, and been tremendously impressed, by them. Sure hope we see you around again soon!

181 humanliberty  Tue, Oct 2, 2007 11:19:06pm

This sucks. I loved them. Individualists for a strong foreign policy are quite rare, and even more so the ones that are incredibly talented artists.

182 clrscr  Thu, Oct 4, 2007 10:40:22am

ok I will buy a damn book, now come back!
