Obama's Statement at Huffington Post

Fri, Mar 14, 2008 at 4:58:32 pm PDT

Barack Obama chose the radical hub of left-wing hatred on the web to post a response to the Rev. Jeremiah Wright controversy: Barack Obama: On My Faith and My Church - Politics on The Huffington Post.

He denies ever having heard Wright say anything outrageous. Excuse me while I guffaw. He also denies that Wright was his “political mentor,” even though he has previously said he consulted with Wright before deciding to run for President.

UPDATE at 3/14/08 5:13:58 pm:

Obama is, quite simply, lying when he says he never heard Wright say these kinds of things. From the New York Times:

In Monday’s interview, Mr. Wright expressed disappointment but no surprise that Mr. Obama might try to play down their connection.

“When his enemies find out that in 1984 I went to Tripoli” to visit Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi, Mr. Wright recalled, “with Farrakhan, a lot of his Jewish support will dry up quicker than a snowball in hell.” Mr. Wright added that his trip implied no endorsement of either Louis Farrakhan’s views or Qaddafi’s.

Mr. Wright said that in the phone conversation in which Mr. Obama disinvited him from a role in the announcement, Mr. Obama cited an article in Rolling Stone, “The Radical Roots of Barack Obama.”

According to the pastor, Mr. Obama then told him, “You can get kind of rough in the sermons, so what we’ve decided is that it’s best for you not to be out there in public.”

Wright leaves Obama campaign

Spokesman Tommy Vietor emails:

That cuts Wright's only formal tie to Obama, and answers what was sure to be a question in Obama's interviews tonight: If Geraldine Ferraro had to leave the Clinton campaign, why is Wright different.

He stayed 20 years.
Wright married Barack and Michelle.
Wright baptized their kids.

And you didn't know anything about the radicalism of Wright.

The far left may turn a blind eye to this with lame excuses but if he gets the nomination it's going to make it easier for McCain to win.

If Obama can't stand up to a pastor to change the tone of a church how is he going to bring about a change in tone in this country?

He claims the church isn't that controversial. To the far left, it's not. They've been blaming America for years. But I think the rest of America would rather see McCain in office.

This pastor certainly explains why Mrs Obama had no pride in America.

15 laxmatt1984  Fri, Mar 14, 2008 5:05:19pm

Who here is a youtube expert?

Make a video where Obama uses his line of "I've been a member for 20 years, children baptized, and married there, ect."

Then come the preacher rantings.

21 LoFlyer  Fri, Mar 14, 2008 5:06:48pm

Just posted this on the last thread....

Obama dumping Wright is the only thing he can do. Wrights words are incendiary. The fact that Obama regularly attends the church with this man as his pastor for 20 years are not attractive to the average American who is steeped in "affirmative action" for the past 20 years or so and can see the obvious improvements in race relations over the years. The fact that Obama is edging out Hilary at this point lends credence to the reality that a black person can successfully run for the President of the US. However if this candidate is a member of a an "afro-centric" church espousing racist ideology and anti-American ideology that many American voters have solid opposition to. The spin on this will provide us with almost as much entertainment as Spitzer encounter with the Mann act!

When his pastor advocates refusing to say "God Bless America" says "G.D America" and Obama refuses to wear an Amercian Flag symbol or not want to participate in any displays of patriotism. I make an exact direct connection between the two. Obama sat at this guys knee and lapped up every knee-jerk thought this ignorant pastor could think of. Obama is not a leader. He is a follower of a leftty radical chic as a form of political opportunity.

52 karmic_inquisitor  Fri, Mar 14, 2008 5:16:46pm

re: #21 LoFlyer

Add to that a little problem for Obama -

1) How can he claim to be a member of a church if he doesn't attend the sermons? If one responds "he didn't attend "those" sermons" then there is the question "how did he know which to attend?" Wright has a large catalog of recorded sermons that are incendiary - they aren't delivered infrequently.

2) If he attended some but not all, was he asleep at the "some?"

3) If he wasn't paying attention to his pastor, then why was his pastor made to be so important in naming "Audacity of Hope" and serving his campaign? Are other people that Barak doesn't pay attention to given such deference? Is this how he will pick his cabinet - select people he doesn't pay attention to?

4) If Obama doesn't attend the church then why does he want us to think he is a member? Because it gives him cred as both Christian and as a member of the "black community?" Why does he feel he needs that cred? If so, isn't this just the sort of politician fakery and pandering that he is suppsedly giving us "hope" of "changing?"

Obama is glad this is coming out early on. People have short memories. He can say or do anything and we must believe because he's black, which somehow makes him morally pure. This is what overextended affirmative action and You Get More Rights Than Everybody Else Act of 1964 have wrought.

After a year or so or lurking on the site, I have finally managed to register and join Lizardland.

I totally love this site and look forward to posting here (respectfully, of course). I am a recently retired investment banker and lived in Saudi Arabia and Iran for nine years in the '70s and '80s (I was in Iran in '78 and '79 during the revolution). I spent the next 25 years working and traveling internationally so maybe I can add some perspective.

As to the Rev. Wrong...er...Wright...I can't believe that Barak Obama was a member of this church for 20+ years without knowing of the hateful attitude of its pastor. I think that this goes a long way toward explaining Michelle Obama's attitudes since she has been soaking up this invective since she was in her 20s.

I think that this will have a long-lasting negative impact on the campaign of the Pope of Hope.

If McCain has any sense he will attack the Dems on Earmarks, the roll-back of the Bush tax-cuts, the Iraq "cut-and-run" strategy, universal (socialized) medical care and emigration reform. Then we have the issues of what we are going to do about our energy dependence to Islamic republics, a viable energy program that provides for expansion and makes the environmentalists happy. (I know that sounds impossible, but America has done the near impossible many times!) Something has to be done about the economy and the huge waste of government spending on non-essential programs.
American citizens are cutting back on expenses to make ends meet, and our government needs to go on a crash diet and provide Americans with good value for our tax-dollars....

PS. That stimulous package just became a bigger joke with the Senate voting to rescind the Bush tax cuts! Our government thinks we are morons.....

The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the Rove.

90 Arbalest  Fri, Mar 14, 2008 5:28:22pm

The creed of Wright’s church is no secret, they’re “unashamedly black”.

It may be that the association of BHO and Wright is dependent on the definition of “association”, but let’s narow down the possibilities.

BHO openly indicated that Wright was his mentor, and prayed with him concerning BHO’s presidential run. This indicates a very close association. The fact that Wright is/was on BHO’s campaign committee, reinforces this notion.

Twenty years of church (@ 50 weeks per year) = 1000 services. Figuring Barak Hussein Obama attended 35% of the time, that’s 350 sermons. Figuring Wright might have been absent 20% of the time, we’re down to 280.

The possibility that no one knew Wright’s beliefs defies belief.

That BHO stayed at Wright’s church, for 20 years, and probably sat through at least 200 sermons, given Wright’s sermons (on video, and there are rumors of sources disappearing), indicates very low or no discomfort with Wright’s values and words, and possibly even approval and agreement.

BHO has some ‘splainin’ to do, and the general platitudes won’t do.

Where were the mighty MSM investigative journalists?

“60 Minutes” did a segment on BHO, and glossed over the warning sighs. Why?

The slightest whiff of Klansmen. neo-Nazis or other whackjobs always sets the MSM into an investigative frenzy. This should too.

Klansmen and neo-Nazis are enough to end any political career, and Wright sounds just like them. Wright looks like the other side of the same coin. Why was BHO ever a contender? Why is he the front-runner?

This association needs to be publicly and thoroughly examined as part of the campaign process.

One great irony is that my church, predominantly white, has been participating in a interdenominational series on confronting racism. This is like the "Hymie-town" moment for Jesse Jackson's ill-fated presidential campaign, in the sense that Obama has had this dude as a mentor/confidant for YEARS, and well... he has to get democratic American Jewish voters. This and his " Likud" comments about Israel establish his campaign is heading toward flushing itself down the general election toilet.
Ironic for the democrats that Hilliary was essentially right.... VET,VET, VET, your candidates! You go, Billary!

99 hazzyday  Fri, Mar 14, 2008 5:31:06pm

I believe that Obama choose this particular church for political expediency. Much like John Kerry's choose to go to Vietnam. Obama felt white wanted to be black. Black leaders were giving him a litmus test. So to gain street cred he struck his deal with the devil Rev. Wright. It served a good purpose for him in Chicago.

Maybe Jimmy Carter can save him. For my eyes, it would approve his religous stance now if he embraced admadinejad..

100 LoFlyer  Fri, Mar 14, 2008 5:31:18pm

I see the Democrats presidential election falling apart here. Hillary can't win the popular vote, but if Obama loses popular support then the super-delegates are going to vote Hillary. The remaining Obama supporters will raise hell at the convention just like they did in '68. This could be an extremely entertaining election. Let's hope McCain can pull it off! Wish it was Thompson though!

Thanks.

Here is another thing - why did he choose HuffPo?

Here is my theory - he is only worried about keeping that elite, guilty white base intact. They give him huge sums of money. Go to the money map here and select obama and see where his money comes from. If you could overlay Starbucks' highest revenue stores, you'd have a 1:1 fit.

He posted at HuffPo because he will get no critical feedback posted there without the invective coming out and destroying any dissenter.

The Kos Kid liberals have lost all critical thinking capacity when it comes to this election and this nominee - and they send him boat loads of money. With money he figures he can fix the damage before the general election. If the "Starbucks" liberals are disillusioned with him, he will run out of gas fast.

160 Luigi  Fri, Mar 14, 2008 5:49:39pm

The Associated Press will not cover the Jeremiah Wright issue, but mentions Obama's response. Thereby only covering his side.

[Link: news.google.com...]

Even more vile (considerably more vile), the Associated Press tries to pose the issue as pitting the Jews against Obama. The AP sets up Jews as the straw men, as the people to hate if you don't like how Obama is being treated. From the above link:

Obama Tries to Allay Jewish Concerns

CLEVELAND (AP) — Barack Obama has a solid Senate record in support of Israel.

He sings the praises, too, of Jewish civil rights workers who fought for blacks' rights in the U.S. And he says he wants to patch up "a historically powerful bond between the African-American and Jewish communities."

Yet there is unease among some Jewish voters about the Illinois senator and Democratic presidential contender.

Why?

Part of it is a division between blacks and Jews that's been growing for years, a split that Obama has challenged fellow blacks to confront.

Another element is the praise Obama has received from Black Muslim leader Louis Farrakhan, whose disparaging comments about Judaism are toxic to many voters. Obama's own pastor has a history of supporting Palestinian causes.

And there are questions about Obama advisers who some U.S. Jews see as less than ardent advocates of Israel.

That's what ironic to me. My priest preaches the Word and strives to teach us its lessons, especially contrition, forgiveness, and redemption. We even endeavor to heed the call to love our enemies. I admit I have a hard time with the one, but I keep trying.

All feline-baiting aside (though it's incredibly difficult), I will never ever make light of faith, of nor the struggle of the spirit journey. My sinfulness is always in the mirror. Not pontificating, I've ground myself to my knees, and suddenly, unexplainably, discovered I was NOT alone. "Amazing Grace" is ... well ... you know.

Peace.

I see this being a non-story with the MSM by tomorrow. They will all REPORT it....and then bury it. The WHITE libs I know that are voting for Obama could care less what he does, says. So you can imagine this is just peachy to the black dems. They just hate Bush and all Republicans, and think that getting a "black" in office is just oh, so.......In other words, this guy could still be the next POTUS and then, my friends, this country is in deep shit.

10 years ago you would of been right, things have changed and the media can no longer suppress information without the Internet blogs like the LGF getting the news out. The LGF played a significant part in the 2004 elections with Charles leading the conservative blogs in discovering the fraudulent document of 60 minutes and decisively changing the course of the election, and illustrating the blatant unprofessional political bias by the American media.

"Well, Chris, I have to tell you. Ever since you had that tingly feeling run up your leg, I was pretty much distancing myself from you."

We just need a jib-jab mashup of presidential candidates and their patriotism as a test of fitness for office. McCain coming scarred out of a PoW camp, Obama refusing to salute the flag. Who would answer the phone at 3 AM. It seems like Obama would ask this pastor for guidance for his conscience first. And the pastor would tell Obama, "G. D. "Down" and many other adverbs only become prepositions when they're following by nouns that are their objects.

The clock ran down. (adverb)
The mouse ran down the clock (prep. phrase)

Prepositional phrases function as adjectives or adverbs.

This is going to neutralize the demcRATic race and party for some time. Clinton doesn't have enough delegates to win before the convention and Obama's superdelegates are going to find it a little hard to support him after this, so it will definately come down to the convention before they have a nominee (Clinton). By that time, the democRATs will have disinfranchised the black vote, Michigan and Florida and all the countless others along the way.

Even though McCain isn't a strong candidate, it is now his to lose.

I am just back from a business trip. At one business dinner, the company included a high-flying tort lawyer born abroad who kept driving half of us nuts with his Obamania. I mostly tried to steer the conversation back to business.

An Israeli liberal (of all things) started to ask a lot of friendly but penetrating questions, such as what are Bambi's plans other than withdrawal from Iraq, and what would be a benchmark for his presidency to be considered a success. The lawyer basically couldn't come up with any coherent answers, other than that he had to TRY to solve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict by talking to Ham-Ass (yeah, right). He blamed Bush for not trying, yet in the context of Iraq he blamed Bush for trying! In terms of logic, this was on a par with the "Chewbacca defense" by the South Park version of Johnnie Cochrane.

It eventually dawned on me that it all came down to one thing: the New Class feels an entitlement to the reins of power. All the rest is commentary.

With Wrong Way Rev. Wright retiring and now seeming "surprised" at Omama's point of view, you tend to belive Omama's claim that they're not really that close.

Doesn't matter that he says that Wright is leaving the campaign. they had to know that this could come out, and if it did, then they go to plan #B if needed. Take the high road , remove him ..and if you think he will not be involved "behind the scenes", I want some of what you are smoking. If, God forbid, he ever occupies the WH, the right Rev Run Wright will not be far away.
