-RetweetObama: 'I Didn't Say It As Well As I Should Have'

Sat, Apr 12, 2008 at 8:58:55 am PDT

After initially trying to defend his remarks about gun-toting, tabacky-chewing, bitter Jesus freaks, Barack Obama is now backpedaling furiously.

MUNCIE, Ind. - Democrat Barack Obama on Saturday conceded that comments he made about bitter working class voters who “cling to guns or religion” were ill chosen, as he tried to stem a burst of complaints that he is condescending.

“I didn’t say it as well as I should have,” he said.

As Obama tried to quell the furor, presidential rival Hillary Rodham Clinton hit him with one of her lengthiest and most pointed criticisms to date.

“Senator Obama’s remarks were elitist and out of touch,” she said, campaigning about an hour away in Indianapolis. “They are not reflective of the values and beliefs of Americans.”

If you had any doubt about it, a Kos Kid tells us in no uncertain terms that he IS bitter and he IS angry, damn it: Daily Kos: I’m bitter and NOT offended by Senator Obama’s comment.

That a marxist like Obama would assume that people would rely on guns or god because the government has failed them should come as no surprise. He's merely projecting.

Didn't say it as well as he should have? I think he said it just about as well as a guy who has sat around for 20 years listening to the hate the white man, hate Amerika crap spewing from his "preacher's" mouth, a guy who has never once held a real job other than rabble rousing, a man who knows nothing whatever about Small Town America (or even really America at all) can say it. At issue are comments Obama made privately at a fundraising gathering in San Francisco last Sunday. He explained his troubles winning over working class voters, saying they have become frustrated with economic conditions:

"It's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."

Eat them, BHO.

51 Perplexed  Sat, Apr 12, 2008 9:11:01am

Barry, Barry, Barry, you got a good education funded by your maternal grandparents (seems that neither your mother nor father cared enough to take care of you) and how you repay them is by hanging the racist tag on them. You say that you, the silver tongued person you are would have chosen better words to insult a group of people. So (if) when you become president are you going to have all of the Bible reading, gun toting, red necks in America rounded up and sent to re-education camps?

Obama: What I meant to say is you typical bitter Americans have a MALAISE problem, what DJhimmy Carter said.

Whereas, Jeanne Kirkpatrick, Reagan's UN Ambassador explained:

Americans weren't suffering malaise, they were suffering Jimmy Carter.

Jimmy Carter's weakness in the face of threats weakened our resolve, weakened our spirits, added to our post-losing Vietnam feelings of loserhood. That's what your President & Congress walking away from problems on the international stage & whining about domestic issues will get you--depression.

We don't need no stinkin' malaised democrats telling us we're losers and can only aspire to lose, decline, fail.

We need a NO SURRENDER kind of leader. We are winners when we are unleashed and free to compete, free to excel, free to surpass expectations.

Democrats are defeatist, depressive, no way out, no light at the end of the tunnel FEAR mongers that hate our country and don't think our country is special,, though every last poor person on the planet wants to come here to compete for the big dream.

I think he is deliberately trying to make as many people think they should be bitter. That way, he can step in as the annointed one to make everything right again.

The founding fathers knew what they were doing. They were mostly just typical white people who loved their guns.

They were not Typical White People who loved their guns. They were Typical People of many colors who knew darned good and well that those guns they were privileged to own let them eat as much or more meat than the very King of England himself without being killed for poaching, while burning more wood to stay warm with than the King could afford to buy on a farm half the size of Sherwood Forest instead of the garden plot they would have farmed for the gentry in England.

When you want to find the roots of the European dislike of America, you'll find it just exactly there. We have ALWAYS had more than the Europeans - even the least of us. And the guns to keep it with.

Seeing my father suffer it firsthand, my guess is dementia.

That occurred to me, but I think it's a little less severe than that. Bubba has been a sociopathic liar his whole career (at least). He's now ten or twenty years older, on the wrong side of 40, and a heart-operation further away (it takes something out of you), than when he was in his prime. He just can't juggle that many balls (!) anymore. It's decline, but not necessarily dementia. Psychosis, maybe, when he can't tell the difference anymore, but one has to wonder if he ever could (mostly, I think he could, more so than most of his donkey listeners, anyway).

McCain: Obama 'Absolutely' Qualified to Be President

By Zachary A. Goldfarb
Sen. John McCain, the presumptive Republican nominee for president, said Sunday that the leader for the Democratic nomination, Sen. Barack Obama, would be "absolutely" qualified to be president, should the voters elect him. But, he said, "I believe that my talent and my background and my experience, which has led to my judgment, ... qualifies me more."

How's this for life under Canadian medical care
- If you don't have a personal physician already, it can take up to two years to get one depending on where you live in the country (walkin clinics are your alternative)
- Go to Buffalo cancer clinics and meet Canadians sent by the government for treatment because the wait is too long
- Get told that you're too old and frail for life prolonging treatment and not have any alternative even to personally pay for treatment (unless you leave the country)
- one of the top liberal MP's had to come to the US to get her type of breast cancer treated expeditiously (Belinda Stronach - look up Magna corp)

Canadians will die if we go to a socialized medical system because they won't have the pressure relief system here. I think we should be nicer than that to our neighbors.

Government that is fighting for working people day in and day out making sure that we are trying to allow them to live out the American dream."

This is Lefty's entire problem. The American dream is possible because of a lack of government intervention, not because of some proactive role they take. Please. Give me a gov't program, and there's half the $$$ down the drain. Meanwhile, they blast big business, small business, any business, while getting revenues they never would have unless somebody stepped up, had a vision, and made it happen. Do they thank them ? Yah,right.

A gov't program isn't job creation, no matter how much they think it is. America does its best work when government leaves us the hell alone.

And then there are the French-Canadians. One of whom, a born and bred authentic nobleman from France, came to what is now Acadia National Park, spent his life there, married into the local Abenaki tribe and became the chief on the death of his father in law. His sons held the position after him. Each and every one of his children (all half Abenaki) was registered in France as a member of the French nobility.

Massachusetts Bay Colony went to war with him, BTW. There never was a peace treaty, which is likely why the US to this day refuses to recognize the Abenaki.

People, people, people,

You're getting it all wrong. The KozKidz have it all figured out:

It's not Obama, it's YOU:

Simply put, Obama's words were only condescending if you are an elitist.
To the rest of America, they are the TRUTH.

Or, the fawning:

Obama, sensing there may be a problem (even if what he said was perfectly fine), decided to turn back the attacks as only he can do.

Or they drop the N-word:

Both McCain and Hillary think voters are stupid. They think that feeding voters poll-tested crap is going to win them elections... Obama has actually gotten voters to understand nuanced explanations about complex issues like race.

Interestingly, I do remember an article during the 2004 election days which documented how Kerry was part of a team monitored the fraudulent 1986 elections here, and for some reason how Reaganites suppressed any evidence of fraud.

Obama is also trying to reach & break off some of Hillary's Hispanic voters and open borders advocates by saying he understands WHO is holding them back--bitter guntoting, Biblethumping white people--and that Obama is a bridge for minorities, but Hillary isn't.

Hillary is seen as pandering to "dumb" embittered white voters, so Obama wants her Hispanic, openborder advocating voters to endorse him, because he will overrule these bigots "holding back" Latinos without papers from the American dream.

1) His contributor list reads like the Karachi phone book, along with a ton of lawyers.

2) I spotted what appears to be an illegal contribution right near the top. Someone named Mustafa K. Abadan made what appears to be 3 contributions totalling $6300. The limit under current law is $4600 ($2300 for the primary and $2300 for the general election campaign).

3) The most interesting donor I saw was one named David Aaker, who listed his occupation as "Prophet."

Agree. This is another chapter in their one-up-manship saga. This is Slick Willie, champion of hisself and no other. It even seems to be deliberately overt - There's no way Willie can tolerate her taking away HIS oval office. NOBODY can be allowed to take center-stage from him. Note that his latest "misspeak" took place just days after Chelsea said in public that mom would be a better president than dad was. Portugal actually had a pretty big colonial empire at one point. The Pope had to divide South America between Spain and Portugal to prevent conflict between two Catholic nations. That's why Brazil speaks Portuguese.

It seems to me that this is an attempt to redefine the use of guns in order to confiscate weapons that are inappropriate or all ready illegal in the context of hunting. Do the 'lawyers' really think the Founding Fathers had hunting in mind. The defense of one's home, body and country do not even register on these two. Someone should ask the question at a forum.

You're right about Obama outing bigots of all stripes.

Our office underwent 12 hours of mandatory Diversity/Inclusion "training" which felt like re-education camp. Newest buzzword was "micro-inequities" we commit however inadvertently, which are hurtful to others.

Then Reverend Wright outed himself spewing bigoted fatwas against America in dashikis.

Reverend Wright set back "understanding," I'd say, with his gross generalizations & slanders.

332 Maine's Michael  Sat, Apr 12, 2008 10:44:03am

Obama is actually devolving.

From being the 'post-racial' candidate, to being all about race.

The more one looks and reads, the more it becomes clear he has always been all about race.

What a freakin' phony, trading on white guilt while professing to being post racial.

For all of Joe Biden's self important buffoonery, he actually nailed Obama early on, when he said 'along comes this guy, clean-looking and well spoken, and its easy to like him' meaning, of course, that whites could work out their guilt by supporting a black candidate who let them believe that by doing so, they were exorcising their collective, ancestral guilt.

I can't say that Biden knew Obama was a phony, because at the end of the day, Biden doesn't know very much, but he was right on the money with why Obama appealed to many.

If his or her fellow golfers agree, he or she puts a fresh ball on the tee and begins again and does not count the first stroke.
In professional golf, as in politics, mulligans don't exist. Sincere, heartfelt apologizes exist, but what Barack has asked for is the equivalent of a mulligan, that we should ignore his first stroke.

/ I'm not a huge golf fan and others can feel free to correct me if I got some minor detail wrong.

Obama's remark is an exact echo of the reasoning Marx used when he called religion 'the opiate of the masses.' Marx claimed that the 'masses' who were resisting his Marxist philosophy habitually used religion as the opiate to forget their pain. To me, this proves Obama is a Marxist.

re: #297 Maine's Michael

You have to thank Obama, at a certain level.

Until he came along, the racism and lunacy of the Black leadership just wasn't on the radar screen of mainstream America.

It is good it is coming out, because without it coming out, it would have festered forever.

In the short term, it will appear to set back race relations in America, but over the longer term, it is better that this stuff be outed, and dealt with. For a healthier tomorrow.

If it knocks Obama and the Dems out of contention for the White House this go round, so much the better.

Thanks Barack!

I hope you're right. One thing I see happening is TWP throwing off the guilt. They simply don't want to even HEAR about it anymore.

Obama is just so arrogant I really don't think he "GETS" how pompus he is.

I still can't get over this statement from this dolt, it falls so in line with what we have been saying about these limousine riding, latte drinking liberals. And of course he said it to a San Francisco audience.

DOES IT GET ANY WORSE?

If I were John McCain and Obama was running against me in the general, I would have statement playing on a loop during my commericals. I would have it scrolling along the bottom of any message I put out.

And of course, Obama, as we have stated before, is allowed to change his answer until he gets it right. At first he was allowed to defend it, try to somehow make this seem like it was not some elitist bs from the left.

Now, for the second go around, he gets to concede, ""I didn't say it as well as I should have"

But he still aint apologizing or saying it was wrong, that will be the next shot at the answer.

And the media lets him get away with it.

If anyone thinks that Obama isn't going after your guns, look at this statement.

If you think because he supposely is a Christian and that he won't try to marginalize religous people further, read the above statement.

And if anyone thinks he is going to somehow bridge the divide between the races, just consider that he called the basic, hard working, middle class white americans bigots.

Change, yeah you want to change this country into a third world sewer.

I notice that Obama and Hillary always talk about guns in the context of hunting. As if there were no other rational use. It seems to me that this is an attempt to redefine the use of guns in order to confiscate weapons that are inappropriate or all ready illegal in the context of hunting.

That's actually been a standard gun-grabber tactic for quite awhile, now. It was, in fact, one of the justifications used for passage of the "Assault Weapons Ban" back in the early days of the Clinton administration. Bubba frequently talked about how nobody needed an AK-47 to hunt ducks, etc.

* * *
Well put, Mr. Maine. Indeed, Senator Obama WAS marketed as a feel-good, uniter, not a divider candidate. He was supposed to be new-style, post-pandering kind of democrat who could appeal to voters' commonly valued ideas and ideals, like republicans, instead of superficial differences such as skin color & gender.

However, the reality is he is a typical democrat who appeals by pandering to different classifications in classic marxist classes of people, all nicely classified by race, religion, tax bracket, gun toting, Bible-thumping, koran-waving, dashiki wearing, ethnicity trumpeting, whining loserhood.

Obama, what a CLASS act.

McCain meanwhile doesn't insult your intelligence but appeals to our common identity as individual Americans who share common aspirations & desires, including to have our country continue to stand as the world standard of freedom, liberty, individual achievement.

It's called divide and conquer. There are actually some hunters who are stupid enough to believe that if folks like me could be made to give up our Evil Black Assault Rifles (AR-15's, FN-FAL's, AK, etc.) that the gun control crowd would be satisfied. We EBR shooters refer to them as "Fudds". The thing the "Fudds" don't realize is that if the gun banners succeed in banning one type of rifle, their bolt action hunting rifle with the scope will soon be classified as an "evil sniper rifle" that must be banned as well. For an example of a "Fudd" who finally realized the error of his ways google Jim Zumbo.

All of Obama's statements are Marxist fecal matter sprinkled with cinnamon--at the end of the day, the core is still the same.

If anyone is familiar with the execrable and contemptible mass of human effluvia known as Cornel West, you will recognize that Obama and West share almost identical politics. Obama's advantage is that he has subtlety where West has bombast; he has a decent face where West was beaten mercilessly by the ugly tree; he learned to speak soothingly to whites (his own words from his first book) where West berates and confronts with hostility. The value of both persons is the same, however.

To a Marxist, everything--everything--is explained by economics. That you do not think same-sex marriage is a good idea is explained by a false consciousness created due to your economic maladies. That you "cling" to religion is defined by economics--obviously, as a Marxist would believe it to be the opiate of the masses.

Such statements only engender more questions concerning Obama's 20 years in that bigoted anti-American anti-White church when he makes comments that religion is fundamentally explained by bitterness and false consciousness.

For people who were paying attention, he said essentially the same thing in his deeply-flawed "race" speech weeks ago. His explanation of White resentment towards welfare, affirmative action, etc., was explained by "stagnant wages" and "global competition". The unmitigated arrogance of telling someone that their resentment over an unwed mother of five living off the public dole owes to that person's unconscious problems with "global competition" is beyond the pale. And keep in mind the welfare "queen" age was during the late 80's, when the economy was gaining ground faster than in US history.

[Another example of his obvious lack of introspection and consistency: For him to attribute protectionist trade policies as a frustration of the lower-class does not explain why he, a millionaire, would support same.]

At its core, though, Obama's real mistake was saying in front of like-minded elitists (millionaires and billionaires, in this case) what he and they share as a belief. He should know that in today's world someone is always watching and listening.

“Senator Obama’s remarks were elitist and out of touch,” she said, campaigning about an hour away in Indianapolis. “They are not reflective of the values and beliefs of Americans.

Obama's plenty smart, which is why we have to be even smarter exposing his hypocrisy. Many people (democrats) will be swayed by his appearance to vote for him BECAUSE of his appearance, not because of his ideas, which are WRONG for America.

We know Obama's ideas are bad and wrong for America. THAT is what is important to convey to others.

From your link:

The House of Prayer emerged in the 1920s and '30s as part of what came to be called black holiness churches, characterized by their energetic services and charismatic leaders. As rural blacks moved to cities, these churches became refuges not only from white racism, but also from discrimination by urban black denominations put off by the newcomers' country ways.

Services at House of Prayer congregations include speaking in tongues, music from exuberant brass bands and baptisms of thousands of people at once, sometimes with fire hoses. The church has also become known for the high-quality soul food and low prices of its cafeterias. It has 1.2 million active members at 150 branches in 24 states. (Estimates of the number of people attending services range far higher.)

Well, Hitler WAS a "rock star in the 30s" as you put it. His speeches, which today we look at rightly as lunatic rants mesmerized millions that fell for his message that they were superior and unfairly being denied their birthright. There is a famous video of a German crowd at one of Hitler's parades that focuses on one young woman in a tony hat with veil. She has a wide eyed, partly blank, almost orgasmic expression on her face.

You can see that same look on many of Obama's (and a few of Hillary's) supporters.

I know. It's still illegal.

Everyone who makes a contribution to a candidate for Federal office has to fill out the form, which the candidate's treasurer has to report to the FEC quarterly.

In the case of bundling, the person who hands the campaign the checks gets "credit" with the campaign for having raised X amount of money for the candidate, but for FEC reporting purposes, the contributions are listed in the names of the people who wrote the individual checks.

And no candidate in his right mind accepts cash, under any circumstances.

It could very well have been, but if so, it was reported incorrectly. The DNC is like any other campaign committee. The same rules apply. You can look up their contributors in the same way.

Hell, if the guy's married, all he had to do was have his wife write a check for that amount.

Personally, I'm of the opinion that all contribution limits should be eliminated, with the requirement that they be posted online within 24 hours.

That way, if George Soros wants to give Obama $50 million, he can, without having to hide it.

And everyone in the world would be able to see who's paying for his campaign, and act accordingly.

Sounds like VA medical care.

Thank you, Pat...I did, and looked for their statement of belief...this appears to be it in its entirety, and they call it their Creed:

We believe in the Almighty GOD,
maker of Heaven and Earth

We believe in JESUS CHRIST,
His only begotten Son,
who was conceived by the Holy Ghost
and crucified for the redemption of the sins
of the people so that all men would have a right to the tree of life.

We believe in water baptism
for the repentance of sins.

We believe that you must be born again
of the Holy Ghost.

We believe in One Leader
as the Ruler of the Kingdom of God.

It leaves a bit to be asked of them, I think, such as the meaning and scriptural validation of that last item; and then, too, the baptism is done in obedience to God's word --but it is not that which brings about repentance --it is done as an outward sign that one has repented...perhaps their statement could mean that, but it is not clear...

The shortness, as I said, leaves much open to conjecture...

because black people never harm other black people

I remember thinking about that when I heard his wife talking about how, as a black man in America, he might be killed just going to the gas station.

The first thing I thought was, "Yeah, if he drives his Lexus (or whatever non-American luxury car he drives) to a gas station in the wrong part of Chicago, he's likely to be car-jacked by some other black guy."

Exactly. I knew she was making her comment to say that he might be assassinated by a racist white but, the reality of the matter is, were he to be randomly killed at a gas station, he'd overwhelmingly be killed by a black male between the ages of 18 and 35.

Democrat (Party of Jackasses) Barack Obama on Saturday conceded that comments he made about bitter working class voters who “cling to guns or religion” were ill chosen, as he tried to stem a burst of complaints that he is condescending.

This idiot does NOT need to be President of the United States. He said precisely what he meant to say, and OOPS! people were actually listening to the man's words!

Yeah, BHO, we ARE listening to you, and all of your subvertive compadres, too!

Look at this guy:

The knock on his neighbor's door upset Niaz Hussain the most. More than the invasive questions about which mosque he attends and his level of religious observance, the FBI's accidental visit to the house next door left the Pakistani native feeling the sting of humiliation.

"They look at me very, very funny any time I'm walking by," Hussain said of the family that lives next to him in Berwyn. "They look at me like, `Why is the FBI after me?' The whole neighborhood looks at me funny."

In the spotlight again amid heightened terror alerts, revelations of government efforts to track them and high-profile arrests, Arabs and Muslims in the U.S. are feeling the pinch of negative publicity and wondering if they will ever stop feeling like they are under a microscope.

In the last few weeks, police have arrested several Muslims in separate alleged terror-related incidents. The most recent high-profile arrest came Friday in Chicago, when Muhammad Salah, 51, of Bridgeview was charged, along with two other men, with helping to raise money for Hamas, a militant Islamist Palestinian group based in the Gaza Strip.

"Lately there has been a little typical sort of political flare up because I said something that everybody knows is true, which is that there are a whole bunch of folks in small towns in Pennsylvania, in towns right here in Indiana, in my hometown in Illinois who are bitter," Obama said Saturday morning at Ball State University. "They are angry. They feel like they have been left behind. They feel like nobody is paying attention to what they're going through."

Seems to me you'd only be bitter and angry if you quit taking personal responsibility and quit trying. I'm too busy working and trying to get ahead to sit around feeling sorry for myself because somebody else has more than me.

Amazing how the MSM cherry picks the part of his gaffe that IS defensible/arguable/subjective/opinion ("bitter"), and ignores the parts that are the most condescending and NOT defensible (white trash, gun-loving Jesus freaks who flee to irrationality to protect their delusional ignorance). Then everyone pretends the defensible part is the only issue and that's the only part they talk about.

I live in Pennsylvania, and for a time lived in a small town in north central PA. I can tell you that the economic conditions in Pennsylvania's Appalachian region has almost never been good, but that the residents of these towns are generally very proud, extremely hard working, religious, self-sufficient, and in many ways are the heart and soul of this commonwealth. Many still live off the land. Many bridge the centuries between a rustic woodlife and cable tv and the internet. While Obama's remarks may strike many in the metropolitan areas as reasonable or somewhat mistated, the people of the heartland of Pennsylvania will take great offense. I think he just blew about $40 million in wall to wall advertising (one more thing the MSM has failed to convey). Oh, and Pennsylvania happens to have more small towns than any other state. Nicely done Barack.

Here's an article about one name on that list:
November 15, 2002, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

Richard Abdoo apologized to Wisconsin Energy Corp. employees Thursday for the backlash caused by publicity over his contribution to a group that broadly condemns U.S. actions launched after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

The chief executive officer's statement followed a hail of criticism on talk radio, an article and editorial in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, and a flurry of calls -- most of them negative -- to the company.
The controversy erupted after Abdoo's name, with his titles as chairman, president and CEO of Wisconsin Energy, appeared on the Web site of New York-based Not in Our Name. The Web site listed Abdoo as a signer of a statement calling for resistance to an array of post-Sept. 11 government actions the group describes as "unjust, immoral and illegitimate."

great. just great.

Had to chuckle as some at Daily Kos seem to think what he originally said won him the election. I got to thinking about that speech to SF elite and Obamalamadingdong's roots. He kind of parallels my own early background. Both of our fathers seem to have been no accounts and abandoned us. Of course he idolized his and I would piss on mine's grave if I even knew where it was. My abusive and uneducated grandmother raised me during my high school years. Both Barry and I are college educated. It seems most everything was handed to him and his future harridan wife on a plate. He's a half-breed who seems to loathe the white part and has that NWA attitude down pat. I actually worked menial jobs full-time nights at $1.48 an hour back in the sixties while attending Villanova U. Anyway the point is that to me that ungrateful prick had plenty handed to him on a silver platter. I'm from a very small Pa. town in dying anthracite coal country and I was never bitter nor hunted or was mesmerized by religion. Now I live in tony Boca Raton surrounded by NY ex-pats who actually buy into Barry Hussein's BS. I could never vote for a condescending Marxist black-separatist asshole. I pray that America wakes up and sends those two Oreos packing back to corrupt Chi-town. Both SnObama and Hillary are congenital liars and if either were anywhere near me seeking advice I'd tell them to do the anatomically impossible. Furthermore if they have so much empathy for poor Americans, why not somehow share some of their own wealth? If medical costs are out-of-control, why the hell does a non-profit hospital need more than a dozen Veeps at over $300k each? Shock me and carry your racist black asses back to Kenya.

where in that link is that quote or implication?

lot's of good info there but i'm not finding it. i must need another cup of coffee.

Kirly,

It's via a link on the left side of the page. The actual title is: "I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction," says Obama. UPDATED AND CORRECTED.

He didn't say he'd stand with the Muslims per se, but with "Arab and Pakistani Americans", to whom he was referring in his book, Audacity of Hope. Here's the quote from page 261:

"Of course, not all my conversations in immigrant communities follow this easy pattern. In the wake of 9/11, my meetings with Arab and Pakistani Americans, for example, have a more urgent quality, for the stories of detentions and FBI questioning and hard stares from neighbors have shaken their sense of security and belonging. They have been reminded that the history of immigration in this country has a dark underbelly; they need specific reassurances that their citizenship really means something, that America has learned the right lessons from the Japanese internments during World War II, and that I will stand with them should the political winds shift in an ugly direction."

/How utterly reassuring.

Thanks Carolyn, at Comment 203.

I visit a lot of places and see their economies. First of all, I know of no place in this country where there is any economy like Jimmah Carter left Ronald Reagan. We are generally a high employment, WEALTHY country.

We have now had a Democrat-controlled Congress for over a year, and gasoline is at an all-time high. In addition, their approach to ethanol has not only cost us tax dollars but has increased fuel prices. Social Security and Medicare are still train wrecks. They can't propose programs because their promise to work across the aisles was a lie; San Fran Nan has made Newt Gingrich look like McCain.

It appears to me that the cities, run by the liberals, are the places suffering economically, as are states like Michigan which have had Democrats in power for forty years. So I would not try to beat up the Republicans until Democrats can show me a shining light that they manage.

That IS a good one.

;^)

For what it's worth: eliminate the Electoral College and no candidate will ever have to even discuss rural people or even rural states anymore. Whoever wins in the 20 or 30 largest metro areas will win the White House. Voters outside those areas won't matter at all - they might was well not even count their votes, let alone campaign for them. Remember this the next time anyone talks about how "antiquated" our system is...

Let's see, Obama spent his early years being dragged here and there to different countries, before he was dragged to Hawaii. He was a little kid, what do they know? They're focussed on toys and play buddies, and TV. So, then he lives in Hawaii and goes to a nice school, then he goes to Harvard.

Summary: Everything he knows about the United States is entirely intellectual. Hawaii to Harvard and nothing in-between -- Defines elite. Obama's concept of the US is fly-over country. Literally. The man is a suitfull of stereotypes - no wonder he fell for Wright's schitck. He's probably one of the most shallow candidates EVER for the presidency. He just has the deceiving advantage of an illusion of having depth. Notice how no one in the media is asking him any American history questions. He ought to look up the definition of Jacksonian American.

Thank you Newsjunkie in KY for that priceless video of Mr. President Bush saving his Secret Service guy from the latino thugs trying to separate him from the President!

Actually had a Democrat try this on me, that didn't Obama have some sense of the international scene since he went to school in Indonesia.

He got The Dropped Jaw and the Incredulous Stare and quickly decided to change subjects.

re: #520 leftover54

While at work I made the mistake of saying to a group of co workers who wondered why I never joined in on the
"Dancing with..." or American Idol" etc., shows "water cooler talk" that I couldn't be bothered watching them. Rumor now around the office is "Leftover54 thinks he's better than everyone else". Thank G_d I didn't say what I was really thinking ! BulgarWheat, you summed it up nicely. Some people LIVE for this stuff...I don't get it. Guess that makes me a snob huh ? Hanging with these people you'd never know we were at "war" with IslamoNazis - thanks MSM !

* * *
Hey, I don't watch those either, and am shocked people I know don't follow the war as I do.

However, remember Fred Astaire & Ginger Rogers' fluffy dances in film inspired many around the world to keep on striving to fulfill their dreams during the Great Depression.

Frank Sinatra crooned for the bobby soxers during WWII, and Hollywood made patriotic movies that entertained during WWII. Anchors Away was a dance filled movie with macho guys such as Gene Kelly & Fred Astaire dancing as US Navy soldiers in bellbottoms with cartoon characters!

Some escapism is healthy--frankly, if more Americans take up romantic couples dancing, that's a hot sexy infidel thing to do for one's heart!

Also, as Obama might say, you know, typical bitter little people cling to their fantasy tv shows for comfort.

Hi Kirly, sorry it took me so long to answer. I have been out trying to match tile for my kitchen floor. Not easy, if it matches it is too expensive.

Excellent diplomatic instincts you have there!

John McCain actually sailed the world while serving his country and flew planes in Europe, Spain, Germany, etc., before doing the same in Vietnam, South & North.

McCain lived 5.5 years overseas in Communist re-education camps, so probably has earned a Ph.D. level in Internationalist Relations, attending lectures in Hanoi POW camp, with beatings to reinforce the theory.

Now Obamanation is saying his statements are true but you are just too stupid to understand the nuances of what he's saying. That got Jean Fraude Carrie to the White House so it should work for the Obamessiah, too. With only ten days left for this to percolate through the upcoming primaries, it may even affect what was a sure win for the Obamanation in NC and lift up Clinton there as well as in Pennsylvania. The Obamanation says, 'To all of you little people, some people say I was condescending. That is not true. I am a liberal. You just are too wrapped up in your small bitter typical white lives to be able to understand the difference!'

re: #11 zombie

So, this Obama comment was made at the Getty fundraiser that I covered?

Holy cow. I hadn't realized that!

I should update my report.

Guess we know now why the Obama campaign barred the media from that event, eh? This is just another in a strange series of coincidences which seem to indicate that Obama is little more than a 21st century snake oil salesman. Tell the people what they want to hear. Offer no specifics and lots of grand promises. Can't believe I am admitting this, but Hillary was close to target when she made her "the heavens will open and choirs will sing" speech about Obama's platitudes. He is little more than a huckster. He seems to have forgotten there is such a thing as a general election and he is (for the time being) the senator from a state of "hayseeds" or whatever he is calls us behind closed doors. I was quite uncertain about the results of the 2008 elections, but it is getting more and more interesting as time crawls on.

Once, maybe. Five times a day for two years, not so much.

Obama will be one Tapdancing with the Pols all this summer.

His softshoe is the highpoint.

He does it with both feet in his mouth.

That's such a Texan thing to do! I haven't been liking Pres Bush too much lately but this clip revived some of my fondness for him. He's a MAN, at least.

536 Lance o Lot  Sun, Apr 13, 2008 5:21:35am

I don't get it: What is it about this guy and the media?

He was abandoned by his black father, raised by the family of his white mother, and he is bitter towards white people.

He uses terms like "typical white person" with impunity. If any white politician were to say "your typical black person..." he would be toast.

The front runner for the Democtratic Party is a hatefull marxist and nobody will call him out on it.

Why does the left hate America?

537 LesLein  Sun, Apr 13, 2008 8:04:52am

#536 -- "Why does the left hate America?"

Karl Marx predicted that America would be one of the first countries to have a communist revolution. In fact America became the most properous and successful nation in history without adopting socialist. The left hates us because we're proof that they're wrong.

538 Neo_  Sun, Apr 13, 2008 8:25:53am

Two points ..

1) Obama’s only major contact with religious people are those at Trinity UCC. From the “GD AmeriKKKa”, I get the sense that they may be frustrated and bitter, so by obvious extension .. what guns are they clinging to ?

2) I can’t get over the last part of the now “infamous” quote ..

anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations

I mean, this is said a week ago Friday, and a few days later the House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-NewD irection) exercises the trade “nuclear option,” changes the rules and stops the clock ticking on the 90 day up or down vote on the Columbian Free Trade Agreement.

I guess this was to save face and not look frustrated and bitter and whatever ..

By Jack Cafferty’s logic, I expect to see the Congressional Democrats in al Qaeda training camps by next week.

539 wanumba  Sun, Apr 13, 2008 3:17:56pm

“I didn’t say it as well as I should have,” he said.

This is what he wanted to say:
"Up against the wall you redneck mutha!"

take the truck
take the gun
take the book
take the kids
take the paycheck
take the property
take the dog

off to reeducation camp!

540 Paul Atreides  Mon, Apr 14, 2008 5:40:36am

What I find funny about the whole thing is that we have two candidates, from the party whose followers love to portray our current President as an inarticulate chimp, spending most of their campaign time digging themselves out of some idiotic flub said the previous day; the rest of the time is spent distancing themselves from some idiotic flub and/or dirty dealings by one of their associates.

These two are supposed to be shining lights? No wonder it's called the Dim Party.
