Palestinians in Britain are trying to have retired Israeli general Shaul Mofaz arrested for war crimes. Amazingly, even after it’s been disproved by a UN report and an Amnesty International report and the Palestinians themselves (who now refer to it as “a victory”), the BBC uncritically repeats the Jenin “massacre” Big Lie.

General Mofaz gained a reputation for tough tactics against the Palestinian uprising in the occupied Gaza Strip and the West Bank.

He directed some of Israel's most controversial military operations in the West Bank earlier this year, including Jenin - where Palestinians claim a massacre took place - and Ramallah.

Well, at least they don't claim it as a fact. They take the Weekly World News approach: "So and so claims that they saw a flying saucer."

2 mommydoc  Tue, Oct 29, 2002 3:49:53pm

Right after they arrest Yasser Arafat for the same charges.

3 Dr. Jal Hampson  Tue, Oct 29, 2002 3:52:17pm

Rand,

I have to disagree. When they say what the Pali's "claimed", and do not back it up with the fact that it has been disproven as a total lie, then they might just as well write that it is a fact, because it makes the claim look uncontested, or at least not disproven.

4 Dr. Jal Hampson  Tue, Oct 29, 2002 3:54:03pm

They shouldn't arrest Terrorfat. They should kill him. Although I think the Pali's are going to do that soon, praise allah. But if they don't, I would gladly start a fund for his head.

I hope these uk Palis realize the futility of their slandering when Mofaz becomes defense minister after Labor leaves the gov't:

Former Senator James Abourezk of South Dakota is the most rabid anti-semite to ever stalk the halls of the Senate. Senator Tom Daschle was a staffer for him back in the 1970's. On Nov. 13, he's giving a speech on the campus of the University of South Dakota entitled, in a transparently Gore Vidal tenor, "How to Gain Enemies and Antagonize Virtually Everyone." Abourezk will address US foreign policy towards the Middle East, terrorism, and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. That means he's going to rail against the coming war on Iraq and America's support for Israel. I'm looking for suggestions on how to ambush this guy. Also, if possible, to get some sort of balancing figure there akin to Daniel Pipes. Please help me out.

The truth about Jenin, as admitted by "Islamic Jihad", from MEMRI:

1) Using civilians as human shields

2) Employing children in the role of compatants

3) Employing women in the role of combatants

4) Refusal to let civilians leave the area

The Islamic Jihad commander in the Jenin refugee camp, Abu Jandal, was interviewed several times by Al-Jazeera during the fighting. In one conversation, Abu Jandal said: "Believe me, there are children stationed in the houses with explosive belts at their sides… Today, one of the children came to me with his school bag. I asked him what he wanted, and he replied, 'Instead of books, I want an explosive device, in order to attack…'"

Sheikh Abu Al-Hija also stated:

"Some of the youths stood fast, and filled their school bags with explosive devices."

Al-Sharq Al-Awsat reported that in Jenin, a Palestinian woman named Ilham 'Ali Dasouqi had blown herself up among Israeli soldiers, killing two and wounding six.

The Islamic Jihad announced that its commander in Jenin, Muhammad Tawalbeh, had prevented civilians from leaving the camp. The Islamic Jihad website announced that Tawalbeh died in his booby-trapped home when he blew it up on the Israeli soldiers inside it on April 6. The announcement went on to say that Tawalbeh "had thwarted all attempts by the occupation to evacuate the camp residents to make it easier for the Israelis to destroy [the camp] on the heads of the fighters."

Jason, #7:

This might interest you as well, Ray Hanania, a terrorist apologist, is receiving significant promotion on 77 WABC radio, a station that covers the New York metropolitain area (15+ million people).

They are promoting Hanania as a "comedian", he labels himself as: "Ray Hanania is a Palestinian-American author and writer based in Chicago, Illinois, USA".

WABC thinks its cute that Hanania will share the stage with Jewish comedians, and everyone will hold hands and sing songs together in peace and harmony.

WABC does not know the real Ray Hanania.

A Ray Hanania excerpt:

"The dream of compromise with Israel is over, today, and it is clear to nearly everyone that Sharon has opened the door to the new possibility of correcting the original injustice of 1948 and restoring Palestinian control over all of Palestine..."

Lebanese Daily Star

Leave WABC some feedback, and let them know about the real Ray Hanania:

Select "Curtis & Cuby" as the feedback recipient, they are the ones promoting this terrorist apologist.

To counter Big Lies, I like to mention some curious forgotten truths. Whenever I hear of something that supposedly happened in Jenin, I remember what really happened there in 1983. I first read of this in an anthropology journal, and confirmed it by searching the NY Times and Time Magazine from 1983. There was an epidemic which started in Arrabe, spread and grew in Jenin, and further spread to Hebron. Teen-aged girls were suffering headache, abdominal pains, dizziness, and loss of energy. Everyone there was sure the Israelis were poisoning the people to drive them out. About 980 victims were afflicted. It began immediately after a large noise was heard, a gas canister for sure. Turns out a car backfired and emitted smoke. That was it! As the World Health Organization report later said, the rest was mass hysteria caused by hatred of Jews. Amazing true history from Jenin.

Arafat could (and should) be tried for murder here in the US...as more than 100 US citizens have died eiver via PLO (and its sub-groups)...

And doesn't Europe remember what Arafat's group of Black Spetember men did in '72 at Munich? (One of the athletes murdered was also a US Citizen)---and there's no statute of limiations on murder...

what bugs the heck out of me is the fact that Palestinians who identify terrorist leaders of Hamas and Islamic Jihad are considered to commit a capital offence under PA law. The US considers Hamas and Islamic Jihad to be terrorist organization, in fact anyone other than a rabid anti-semite would consider these sub-human zealots to be terrorists. Yet, the PA protects and shelters them by condemning those who seek to protect innocent civilians from the monsters to death. Could you imagine if the Afghani who pointed out where Bin Laden was hiding was caught by the Afghani authorities and condemned to death as a collaborator.

We cannot let the Arabs commit genocide. Stop Islamist terror--Prevent the Islamic Counter Crusade.

After William's comments and facts in #8 - it's hard to really add credence to the claims of a massacre, or the claims of the need for war crime charges against members of the IDF. In fact, this sounds like the same whinging that is tossed out regularly against Sharon based on the actions of the Lebanese Christian Militia in 1981-82.

The most amazing thing about these types of claims, and the idiotarians that repeat and press them - is that it totally ignores not only the facts of the events - but the real criminals at work. Hamas, Hizbollah, Palestinian Authority, Arafat, Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade, Al-Qaeda, Islamic Jihad, IRA, Black September, etc etc etc.

Perhaps the most idiotic are the liberals, marxists, and socialists that decry US and Britain for imperialism and warmongering, while ignoring France, Germany, or even the 30 - 80 million killed in the Marxist / Communist regimes of USSR, China, and their proxies around the world.

One can go on and on over war crimes in the past 50 years - and how many of those who really did the crime were held to trial for the events they caused? Where is the UN - besides addressing political agendas that have nothing to do with human rights? Where are the enlightened members of the EU who seem to be so well evolved as nations and governments that they tell the rest of the world how to act (while cowering behind others)?

Sorry - until the rest of the world starts to hold the real criminals culpable based on crimes and not politics - then these efforts and organizations should not get our support.

A bit offtopic -

When Shaul Mofaz recently went on visit to the US,
Because of his Persian decendency [born in Iran, immigrated to Israel at the age of 9] he was questioned three times upon entrance to the US.

BBC may be fined for poor standards

"The BBC could be fined for the first time if it breaches its duties on standards, the Government has announced.

The organisation faces penalties of up to £250,000 under proposals to overhaul the communications industry."

That's about a half million USD, no one in the USA has ever been fined that much except Howard Stern and that wasn't for bad practices but sexual content.

Former IDF chief of staff Shaul Mofaz has accepted Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's offer to serve as defense minister, a Sharon aide said Thursday.

I wonder what they'll have to say about that...

I think that you are all ediots. The Islamic Jehad and Hammad is the only answer to the Israeli army bortality. You have to know what we love our children as much as you do, and for very Palestinian child is an Israeli will die. We have been the only remedy to your agretion , we will never sleep and you never have a peacful sleep ever, unless we are all gone to heaven.

its amazing how blindly such people can only see things they want to believe.

For starters, Israel has NO RIGHT being anywhere in the West Bank of Gaza. they are illegally occupied territories, and Israel's illegal colonies there are a direct violation of the 4th Geneva Convention.

I was in the Occupied Territories during "Operation Defensive Wall", and I saw first hand Mofaz's warcrimes.

These include, but are not limited to, the use of human shields, the use of human sandbags (i.e. shooting from behind the cover of a civilian hostage), bulldozing schools, hospitals, homes, private property, collective punishment and curfew, preventing the transportation of medical goods and wounded (no ambulance was allowed into Jenin for 4 days after the end of the fighting there).

Sharon and his fanatical hawks have a long and rich history of killing civilians without compunction. As early as 1953, Sharon as head of Unit 101 oversaw the slaughter of 60 civilians at Qibbya and even had a UN Sec Res slapped down condemning his actions. In Lebanon, Sharon oversaw the deaths of over 17,000 civilians, making it the most barbaric invasion the region has ever seen. And 17,000 dead civilians was the >conservative< estimate by the AP (June-Sept. 1982).

As a Jew who loves Israel, its time to stop giving monsters like Sharon a carte blanche.

Israel doesnt belong in the West Bank and Gaza. Israel's presence there is the sole cause of all terror and death. Its time to withdraw and have peace.

Fanatics like the ones on this board are only fomenting more death and destruction.

If you want peace, end the illegal and brutal occupation.

Shalom.
