MFMSM, Frank, Gore.

I see it's an early lead for the Mainstream Media.

Personally, I prefer making this an individual award, but hey.

If MY candidate wins, perhaps it will be blamed on the "J-E-W-S". [hint hint]

Has to be the mainstream media, which I stubbornly persist in defining as the internal culture of the media industry itself.

All the other candidates are simply affiliates, reflections, and variations of the institutionalized depravity within the media-industrai complex.

At this juncture, Israel and other civilized forces must face an unpleasant reality: They can either continue their hopeless efforts to appease the media or they can survive. There is no other choice.

re: #45 buzzsawmonkey

The question is, what criteria to use in voting?

Some, like Rather, are pathetic hasbeens whose current efforts to claw themselves back into the public eye are more pitiful than anything else.

Gore, though he might seem at first to be in the hasbeen category, is a good nominee, since he is actively trying to destroy what remains of the US economy.

But then there are the active antisemites like Howling Cynthia McKinney, and the traitorous creeps like Code Pink.

How to choose? What criteria are other folks using?

You pretty much outlined my criteria: The MSM is a given; Gore is a clear and present danger; and Code Pink represents blatant treason....

I could vote 36 times, but I think I'll stick to my 3. I've too much honor.

58 JamesTKirk  Tue, Jan 13, 2009 3:37:25pm

As much as they all deserve it (and more), "The Mainstream Media" is too vague and all-encompassing. I think the award really needs to go to a specific person or organization.

Especially since the Fiskie is a (once in a) lifetime achievement award, so if we give it to the MSM now, we can never give any member of the MSM their own personal Fiskie in the future, no matter how well-deserved.

Voting for the MSM is a cop-out. Too big, too obvious, too easy. I ask Charles to reconsider its eligibility, and that those who have yet to vote show a little more thought and effort before making their choice.

59 mikalm  Tue, Jan 13, 2009 3:38:03pm

Oh, I can vote three times? Okay, here goes:

One vote for the MSM, for reasons we've already discussed here; and

One vote for my old Santa Monica HS classmate Sean Penn, who I consider the most willfully and habitually seditious individual in the entire media/entertainment industry, which is saying something. How far we've fallen from the patriotic movie stars of World War II, to a vile creep like him today.

Each nominee is eminently qualified to recieve this award. Every one of them brings there own unique qualifications.

The other dark meat: Raccoon is making it to the table

He rolls into the parking lot of Leon's Thriftway in an old, maroon Impala with a trunk full of frozen meat. Raccoon — the other dark meat.

In five minutes, Montrose, Mo., trapper Larry Brownsberger is sold out in the lot at 39th Street and Kensington Avenue. Word has gotten around about how clean his frozen raccoon carcasses are. How nicely they’re tucked up in their brown butcher paper. How they almost look like a trussed turkey … or something.

Johnson and his supporters have uncovered major cases of news-related fraud in the past. Little Green Footballs was behind the discovery of photo manipulation regarding a story on an Iranian missile test, and also uncovered several photoshopped images and staged pictures from southern Lebanon during the Second Lebanon War. In addition, the site has been the first to break shocking images from anti-Israel and anti-U.S. rallies from across America.

The criticism of the MSM choice has merit; too broad, deserving every year, etc.; but this has been an exceptional year for media bias.

From Chris Matthews' tingly leg and Overbite's insane rants to the open goebbelism of CNN and others in Gaza, the "MSM" have revealed their real nature as never before.

They are the true enemy, in the sense that all other enemies would be powerless without the conscious, calculated, predictable support of the institutional media.

3) Slammed the economy into a pit, which...

4) Caused George "Not on my Watch!" Bush to throw vast amounts of money at the problem, which...

5) Greased the skids so Obama could be elected and get a carte blanche to send the federal spending into even higher orbits, and...

What is the Annual Fiskie Award....
An award originated by Charles, designating the single person in any calendar year who most clearly exhibited the personality traits of BBC reporter Robert Fisk (who, after being kidnapped by Afghan extremists, expressed sympathy for them and their cause and famously declared, "If I were them, I'd have beaten me too."); or, more generally, who was the year's most unrepentant idiotarian. Voting on the Fiskie takes place every year in January. Previous winners have included Jimmy Carter and Rachel Corrie. (See also the LGF FAQ.) [The award was originated by Charles in this post on 12/19/2002; originally it was merely called "LGF Idiotarian of the Year Award"; after complaints from LGFers that nominee Robert Fisk was in a league by himself and was sure to win, Charles updated his post, dropping Fisk from the nomination yet changing the name to "The Robert Fisk Award for Idiotarian of the Year"; but neither of these titles made use of the term "Fiskie." On that same thread, Susan first used the word "Fiskie," though she was not referring to the award but rather to the man himself; it was actually Bill Whittle near the end of the thread who first used the term "Fiskie" to refer to the award.]

re: #53 Shiplord Kirel

Has to be the mainstream media, which I stubbornly persist in defining as the internal culture of the media industry itself.

All the other candidates are simply affiliates, reflections, and variations of the institutionalized depravity within the media-industrai complex.

At this juncture, Israel and other civilized forces must face an unpleasant reality: They can either continue their hopeless efforts to appease the media or they can survive. There is no other choice.

"Institutionalized depravity" describes the problem. The MSM simply cannot distinguish between "right and wrong" or between "image and reality" (in the case of Obama).

Lebanese Journalists 'Uqab Saqr, May Chidiac Criticize Arab Media for Airing Graphic Footage of Casualties in Gaza

The Israelis "Value Human Life More Than We Do; We Have No Respect for Human"

May Chidiac: "Are our children worth less than [Israeli] children?"

'Uqab Saqr: "The question is why their blood is worth more than ours, and the answer, to be frank, is that they value human life more than we do. We have no respect for human life in our society – you see this in our jails, in the crimes we commit against one another. Look back a little, and see what happened between Fatah and Hamas. The Israeli newspapers wrote that there were massacres, and some Fatah members fled to Israel for fear of Hamas." [...]

Let's see now...Barney Fwank deserved serious consideration, but for flagrant, unabashed whoredom my vote goes to the MSM.

May their industry rest in pieces.

I still can't help giving Barney some slack for the way he called out media whore Eason Jordan when the latter accused American troops of deliberately targeting journalists in Iraq. Jordan said this at the moonbattish World Economic Forum in Geneva back in 2005, apparently believing that he had a wholly safe audience. Barney demanded, "Got any proof of that, Mr. Jordan?" essentially bitch-slapping him right in front of the adoring lefties. Barney also stated that dead journalists were just "collateral damage" in Iraq. Jordan lost his job as president of CNN over it.

George Bush deserves a salute and our thanks. For putting up with a treasonous media and cultural elite in the midst of some of the most trying crises this country has ever faced. George Washington could not have survived this sort of onslaught. Bush made the tough decisions, popularity be damned, for the sake of all of us. He is to be commended.
In my own little, inconsequential way, I've made decisions in my life and then shaken my head as people around me, afraid to say boo to a goose, lay down criticism on how they would have done better.
Lead, Follow or get the F**k out of the Way.........George Bush chose to lead and he has my everlasting respect for that.

Egyptian intelligence chief Omar Suleiman told Hamas representatives to the talks in Cairo that the organization would have to commit to a one-year cease-fire. Hamas officials told the Egyptians that it would be willing to accept the proposal if the changes demanded by the organization are made.

Hello, Lizards, just a drive by post from an internet cafe on Maui, as I recreate away. I have come to the conclusion that I am seriously sleep deprived when at home, as I am sleeping way too much here. Weather is hella great, snorkeling, a little rough wave action today, some strong currents, not good for out-of-warranty white guys. Climbed a peak today on west side (Wahlee trail?) pretty strenuous (5 miles, 2k feet elevation change, muddy and slick), but incrediblby beautiful. The tourist choppers were below us as we picnicked. Tomorrow, golf. Wishing you all well, wish (some of you) were here. Later!

2008 News Releases

January 8, 2009

"THE HAMAS WAR: HOLOCAUST SURVIVORS SLAM WORLDWIDE CAMPAIGN TO EXPROPRIATE THE SHOAH AND ITS IMAGERY"

"Holocaust survivors and their families gathered at the Simon Wiesenthal Center to protest international campaigns that compare Israel’s attack on Hamas strongholds in Gaza to the Nazi Holocaust. Protestors in such major cities as London, Paris, Sydney and Los Angeles used images of Nazi death camps and swastikas to cast Israelis as Nazis and Gazans as Warsaw Ghetto victims. Survivors of the Holocaust say that this "outrageous comparison exaggerates the truth and desecrates the memory of our loved ones who perished at the hands of the Nazis." At the press conference, the survivors held up cards the showed the name of the concentration camp they were incarcerated in by the Nazis.

"The memory of the Holocaust is being distorted in a deliberate campaign to deny Jews and the State of Israel both their past and their future," said Rabbis Marvin Hier, founder and dean of the Wiesenthal Center, and Abraham Cooper, the Center's associate dean. "We are deeply angered by the chants on the streets of our cities, ‘Death to the Jews’ and ‘Jews to the ovens’," they said, adding, "Those Muslim leaders who express concern over Islamophobia should be the first to denounce the hateful rhetoric."

Representing the survivors were Renee Firestone and Jack Lewin, who both survived Auschwitz. Firestone asked, "Do the protesters know what happen to us in the Holocaust? I was 'only' in Auschwitz for 13 months and on many of those days they took 12,000 men women and children to gas Chambers and murdered. How dare they debase us and our loved ones this way!"

Representing the survivors were Renee Firestone and Jack Lewin, who both survived Auschwitz.

Another survivor, Dave Lux, said it is not Israel who is committing war crimes, but Hamas, who put innocent women and children in harm’s way. "I have a question," said Lux, "What if Hamas stopped using [Gazans] as human shields? Wouldn’t that reduce the killing of civilians?"

"We’re not going to allow lies to dictate what is happening in the Middle East," said Rabbi Hier. "What Israel is doing is what every single nation would do, including our great country."

In a related development, the Wiesenthal Center has contacted senior officials in Europe to protests the growing number of anti-Jewish attacks in France, Belgium and the United Kingdom. "

The Pentagon said on Tuesday that 61 former detainees from its military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, appear to have returned to terrorism since their release from custody.

Pentagon spokesman Geoff Morrell said 18 former detainees are confirmed and 43 suspected of “returning to the fight.”

He said the figures, updated at the end of December, showed a higher rate of recidivism than seen in a previous report showing 37 former detainees as active militants.

It looks like that was done when Israel had settlements there, AND it shows a lot of land being used for crops. I suspect most if not all of the cropland is no longer being used for crops, giving Gazans an "excuse" to have those tunnels for their desperately needed food. So that means even more land.

There is a lot of criticism about having the MSM on the list. A lot of it is fair, but I disagree. While it's true that the MSM is not one individual, they act as one coherent entity most of the time, whether it is a conscious effort or simply a result of like-thinking people joining their ranks. They may have been on the list before, but this year the MSM went out of their way to prove how deserving they were, above and beyond the call of duty. The massive push to elect the Obamessiah, their completely one-sided biased reporting of HAMAS and Israel, their open disregard for the truth as long as they can push an agenda, it should be clear to everyone by now that the MSM has jumped the shark. They can never be worse than they've been this year, even when they've been caught with their hand in the cookie jar. They'll try, but it can only lead to their already long overdue downfall. They've earned my vote this year.

I also disagree that electing the MSM as an entity prohibits individual members from getting the awards later. This year it was clearly a collaborative effort. Individual achievements can still stand out. Besides, many complaining about voting for the group encompassed by the MSM are themselves voting for the groups Code Pink and The Discovery Institute, instead of the individuals running them (well, the later may be an exception, but it would be better if it were to the head of it, with (Discovery Institute) listed after).

Now The Messiah is Cupid.

Inaugurate my love

Obama is a cupid, of sorts. His election was about hope and all things positive. It's not surprising that many of his supporters wound up falling for more than just him.

One of the more high-profile Obama love stories is the marriage of Harvard professors Cass R. Sunstein and Samantha Power (yes, the one who called Hillary Clinton a monster). Both have been big names in the Obama campaign. The two politicos met while advocating for the president-to-be last winter. They were married by summer.

Of course, they can't say much about their love (or anything else) right now - they're neck deep in transition - but Sunstein did send me a quick e-mail about his Obamaffair. It said: "Flowers bloomed and birds sang in Iowa in January." Did they ever.

One soon-to-be-married couple who couldn't go on the record with their names (he now works for Obama, who apparently likes to keep love on the down low) told me they met while campaigning in New Hampshire. It was a match made in heaven - or, actually, a match made in Manchester.

Gaza is very comparable in area and population to Philadelphia, PA.

So Philadelphia is a concentration camp? The point is that it would be a normal place, like the Chicago area is a normal place (except for certain politicians), if its people acted normally.

The "most densely populated areas on earth" canard comes from the MSM trying to give the impression that the Israelis have bottled up the Gazans into a horrible prison camp. The reality is that Gaza could be just like any other place--of which there are hundreds of thousands in the world--if its people didn't try to blow up its nearest neighbor, its natural trade partner.

It's good to keep reminding everyone of those facts; the simplest one for most to grasp is that Gaza is not some overconcentrated area, but has the same numbers and area as a city in the U.S.

Here's a hint: it's not "the media's" fault she looked like a fool in her interviews. She couldn't answer basic, fundamental questions about national and international issues. She just didn't know anything. She simply had barely any knowledge about anything outside of Alaska. She tried to get away by jumbling together rote catch-phrases, which always failed whenever the interviewer tried to probe even an inch below the surface. She flat-out was not prepared to be Vice-President, not even close. McCain made a desperation move, a hail Mary pass in picking her, hoping to motivate the Bible-thumping and right-wing fringe base (which succeeded to a large extent, as we saw a great deal of these lunatics and imbeciles at the Palin rallies--but most of them were going to go out to vote against Obama anyway) and also to try to pick off women Hillary supporters he hoped at the time would remain bitter and vote for the ticket with the woman on it (a strategy which failed in the long run) and various actions of McCain's since the election indicate he is well aware that he made a bad choice, especially bad for the country (which he now likely regrets).

Actually, I'm gonna have to pass on the Gazacam threads. Just a lot of people hoping for something to explode and counting rooster crows. Lame.

Whether or not she can/should get the seat is not a matter for the media, they are too busy tingling over it. . .

Mr. Sandman, I'm curious about the meaning of your icon. What does it represent?

778 Kailen  Tue, Jan 13, 2009 6:33:30pm

Sarah Palin and Joe Biden were on a fishing trip with the media on fine day, as a publicity stunt. It was rather windy out, and a stray gust pulled the cap from Biden's head and pitched it into the water. Biden tried to reach for it, first with his hand, then with his fishing pole, then he cast his line to try to hook it. Eventually Palin got tired of the display, stepped out of the boat, walked across the water and picked it up. Everyone was stunned. The next day the headlines came out:

"Gov. Sarah Palin Can't Swim."

re: #756 Mr. Sandman

I see you're all still sucking on sour grapes on this site, likely inspired by your saint/heroine/Messiah-enne, the Vice-sore-loser who more than 2 months after the election is still acting like a crybaby, blaming the "media" for her own lack of ability as a candidate...

After a two-year campaign that saw the MSM pounding the Republicans, gushing over the Dems, anointing Obama, refusing to put him under a microscope as it did McCain and Palin, and you believe the obvious bias, as even the NYTimes relented, applied only to the Palin candidacy as a reason for its well-deserved condemnation, as well as its inclusion in this poll? Is it stupid in here or is it you?

Man, it's a good thing that isn't the case. I wouldn't want everyone to hear the voices in my head. "They" frequently say terrifying and ominous things like: "Hey Behemoth, turn your boxers inside-out. That way the tag won't chafe your backside", or "SB, I know you're hungry, but you should wash that apple before you eat it. You don't know where it's been or who's been touching it".

Mr. Sandman, let's talk.

787 olderthandirt  Tue, Jan 13, 2009 6:49:44pm

I nominate "Mr. Sandman" as Fiskie Commenter Tool of the Year for his lack of insight and his very poor judgment in almost everything except being here where everything swings! However, even that judgment, being here that is, is dubious since he doesn't understand what he's doing. But, that's acceptable for a poor demented tool like himself!

788 I_Invented_Al_Gore  Tue, Jan 13, 2009 7:12:49pm

At first thought, MSM seemed like a dumb idea. They sort of qualify for the Fiskie every year.

But then I thought about their boosterism for Obama, so I can see why they are doing well.

I think Code Pink is deserving, too, but I think they would LIKE getting this award.

Blago deserves a vote for some measure of idiocy, but I'm wondering if the Fiskie is appropriate. I thought the Fiskie was for stupidity in the face of international political realities, and he's pretty local.

re: #791 Lee Coller

Palin Derangment Syndrome?

Big Time! Lil' Miss "You Betcha" dogsled back to Alaska two months ago, and this guy is still traumatized. Wow! Maybe those charming winks in the debates melted this guy's brain. She stumbled a bit when she suddenly found herself on the national scene, but my only real disappointment is her downplaying her stance against Global Warming Alarmism. Sad to say, but I guess it was a practical necessity.

The MSM succeeded in getting the first truly socialist President elected (in the first election decided by racism), and he's still obsessing over a VP candidate that lost. Now they're out of control hyping up The One's inauguration, even though he is objectively and indisputably the least accomplished President-elect in decades (if not EVER). This from the same people who preach that we should be "color-blind".

I hope all the votes for Barney Frank are in recognition of his extraordinary contributions toward destroying our economy, and paving the way for socialism here. They are well deserved. After all the whining from our domestic socialists about the "unsustainable" cost of the Iraq War, one of their own has cost us way more - and it's just getting started.

I have Saint Al as my third choice because I feel his eco-fascism remains one of the biggest threats to our prosperity and freedom - even while the evidence against AGW is becoming downright obvious these days. Especially since we have a rabidly socialist "climate czar" coming onto the scene.

Great to see my favs doing so well!

A good observation.

I suggest that if the MSM had actually reported on him, and other such issues, he'd be on the list instead of them. He's basically inculded within the MSM package in that way.

817 DaChew  Wed, Jan 14, 2009 5:54:29am

Barney Frank got my vote but maybe it should've been the MSM. I mean, when you think about it, he did get away almost completely untouched. Here he was, in charge of oversight of Fannie and Freddie, probably the two most heavily regulated banking organizations in the country, they go belly-up and what gets the blame? Lack of regulation. And Frank actually gets away with the claim that it's absurd to hold him responsible in any way. So, he doesn't do his job of regulating them, they get in trouble, and the answer is to add regulation and oversight of the type he didn't do in the first place.

818 FrogMarch  Wed, Jan 14, 2009 6:08:42am

re: #817 DaChew

The democrats always whine for more regulations. The democrats whine about everything then blame somebody else and act like they are just spectators who had nothing to do with it. All aided by the DNC state run media machine. Barney is an inept fool. Frank and his ilk were the first domino in our ruined economy. But never mind - the democrats get to live large - we get the invoice.

819 SecondComing  Wed, Jan 14, 2009 6:12:46am

As the ultimate exemplar of the mainstream media's cluelessness and bias, I just had to vote for Chris Tingle.

I may cast one of my two remaining votes for Deepak. His comments after the Mumbai massacre were absolutely disgusting.

I see where the Israelis have just provided the Indian Air Force with "Phalcon" AWACS radar for their Ilyushin IL-76 Early Warning aircraft. I hope the forthcoming Hebrew-Hindu anti-jihad alliance causes Deepak much indigestion.

824 lifeofthemind  Wed, Jan 14, 2009 8:08:29am

Barney Frank

He is this years news and is responsible, with Chris Dodd and others to be sure, for the implosion of the AMerican economy and the panicy flight to the worst possible answer to that problem, Obama. I would have chosen Soros as the mover behind the scene but Frank deserves recognition. Please do not offer him more exposure.

Most of the others are really old news trying to hang around past their sell by dates.

825 DeeAitch  Wed, Jan 14, 2009 8:17:59am
