Wow, very good.

In 1999 we moved out to the country. To get more than 5 channels we would have to buy a satellite dish. I told my husband I'd like to try and live without it and that's what we've done. I watch football on regular channels or streaming, I get my news via internet, but I don't watch much TV and I don't really miss it. When I go to people's houses and it's on, it is weirdly distracting.

Not trying to sound "holier than thou," just mentioning that it can go away and not be missed.

I just stick with the internet nowadays. No TV, unless I have to watch something with my mom.

They could really make TV obsolete at this point, but it would just shift to the internet and I'm not sure what the difference would be (outside of the whole money thing). We already have Tivo so you can watch what you want when you want, like on the internet.

I like the independent movie channels, the free ones. History channels are fun and anything with Family Guy or Judge Judy :)

Philo T. Farnsworth is generally acknowledged to have developed the first practical electronic television sytem, way back in 1927. Electro-mechanical systems had been demonstrated earlier but it was Philo's system that led directly to the TV systems we know and loathe today. He didn't get filthy rich from it, though, because RCA essentially stole it from him.
Farnsworth went on to a distinguished career as an engineer and inventor. He died in 1971.

He had a low opinion of commercial television later in life:

Farnsworth is sometimes quoted as telling his son Kent, with regard to television:
"There’s nothing on it worthwhile, and we’re not going to watch it in this household, and I don’t want it in your intellectual diet."

Yet, his family's website makes it clear that this is Kent's summation of his father's view, rather than a direct quote.

His wife, Elma, died in 2006 at the age of 98:

In a 1996 videotaped interview by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, available on YouTube,[46] Elma Farnsworth recounts Philo's change of heart about the value of television, after seeing how it showed man walking on the moon, in real time, to millions of viewers:
Interviewer: The image dissector was used to send shots back from the moon to earth.
Elma Farnsworth: Right.
Interviewer: What did Phil think of that?
Elma Farnsworth: We were watching it, and, when Neil Armstrong landed on the moon, Phil turned to me and said, "Pem, this has made it all worthwhile." Before then, he wasn't too sure.

If you check the Crown Royal site but sign in as a Canadian you'll see how its sold up here. No label colours.

While I was going to Uni the first time, my wife and I had a working friend who used to come over every Friday with a bottle of whiskey. We started with Canadian Club. That lasted for a few months until K. got a raise and started bringing a different brand every week. When we hit Crown Royal, we stayed there, enjoying every label they sold in this area.

Then he got married, and we haven't seen him since.

When the "Lost" finale airs on Sunday, May 23, the episode will run from 9 p.m.-11:30 p.m. The overrun will push back local news, with the previously announced "Jimmy Kimmel Live: Aloha to Lost" post-finale special now airing at 12:05 a.m. ABC is expected to announce the plan on tonight's episode of Kimmel.

Watch it on Hulu. saves a lot of time without the commercial breaks.

I had given up the tube a good three years prior, heard about 9/11 through the internet and saw it first on a convenient store TV.

Now I have purchased the bunny ears to keep up with the final season of LOST and this only to keep up with Walter, otherwise I'd wait for the DVD as with anything else I want to watch.

TV is good.

I agree though for me it really depends on where I live. When I lived in the city I barely watched it and didn't care. I was out a lot at night anyways.

Now that I live in ruralville tv is my main source of entertainment. Long day of work, especially in the summer, come in, eat and veg. I was without on for 5 months and hated it. I love movies and since it's an 2 hour round trip to the movie theatre the satellite movie channels are great. Love pay for view as well.

Yeah, you should hold on to that.
Before my wedding, I flew trips back and forth to Cayman and Nassau for a few months ( not a good run..... crowded with minimal time off) so that I could get my crystal Baccarat goblets one at a time in the duty free shops and swap 'em back for the wedding present ones at home.... (not that I got many of those back home for gifts). Now if I broke one, I probably couldn't/wouldn't replace it even if I could get it duty free.
They're one of the few companies still owned and made in the same place. Everything else is pretty much gone to China.

A few of my friends have large Baccarat crystal collections, given to them during the casino trips. My favourites are from the New Years celebrations, they make a special edition for the current Chinese animal. I accidentally lost three such coupons for the year of the Rat, oh well. Gorgeous things, but I managed to keep three little crystal mice that were at each place setting, also special edition Baccarat.

The problem being, of course, that too much of most MMOs requires a group. Especially the more modern, less creatively designed MMOs - repetitive dungeons packed with giant monsters that absolutely require 20+ idiots to mash buttons to defeat does not an interesting game make.

I find it gives some sort of ultimate meta-goal. MMOs without PvP can be fun to play, but ultimately to me they feel a little empty - the acquisition of stuff to improve the character to - acquire more stuff. But making little kids cry - that never gets old.

I would have no idea of the difference between a $50 bottle and a $1000 bottle.

You'd be surprised, you really can taste the difference. The Bordeaux I had was the smoothest I can ever remember. There really was a big difference and I'm no connoisseur.

In the Picasso restaurant in the Bellagio I had a couple bottles of the cheapest wine on their menu, about $300 a bottle as I recall, it was splendid and my European guests all claimed it was the best they ever had.

I don't think Kobe needs to play hard to beat the Jazz...Jazz have no length inside..Just pass the ball into the paint.. jeez 6'8 and 6'9 against twin 7 footers? The jazz are dead meat..It's like when the varsity plays the JV inside. Kobe is resting while they sweep the jazz...

The trick is the action verbs and quantify everything you can. "Trained # new employees", "Wrote # annual reports", "Managed a staff of #", "Oversaw growth of #%", etc. Every line should start like that and you should be fine. Current responsibilities should be in present tense...

I've been reading resumes for six weeks now...had a couple of really crappy ones...one guy couldn't even write a complete sentence for each company he worked for...three years at a job, and all you can muster is seven or eight words saying, "Performed some basic duties as an engineer."? I think the guys was just stupid. He built a crappy bomb, didn't even use the right fertilizer. Locked his keys in the car. wasn't scheduled to leave until 2 days after the bombing. I think he was just an idiot.

yes he was sharp as a marble, just the kind that are recruited for "martyrdom"

I'd be giving up something that looks exactly like this - 1970 BMW R75

And something that looks a lot like this, but blue, 1966 Honda Dream 305

that you say you can't use anyway?

re: #280 Cannadian Club Akbar

I do. I was part of a 6 member team that wrote a training manual (management) for Brinker International. (Chili's concept) But I have also elevated independent restaurants to a point where owners opened more locations.

Build your resume around those accomplishments and the positions in which you achieved them. Don't get into too many details, but do make clear how much you increased sales and how you wrote the training manual. I'm not an expert, but that I know to be good practice.

I guess I could be less "wordy". If they know what they are looking at in regards to a resume I shouldn't need to explain the little stuff. Cool. That was an actual "click" in my head.

Good catch. The thing to remember is that resumes are skimmed first to see what stands out and only if something does are they read. Make sure your (outstanding in my eyes) accomplishments are highlighted and you'll improve your chances.

Full Disclosure: This information was provided to me by the Illinois Department of Employment Security. I'm just building off of what they taught me.

OK, you are talking resume's right?

Is it in response to Faisal Shahzad's that was posted on Talking Points Memo? Or just a coincidence? Sorry if I missed the post.

Speaking of, I was cruising home in the minivan with a full compliment of Catholic school tweeners (drama club, oh yeah, drama is right) and I saw one of these in a soft top, red

Looks like you got my old Dream (CL77). The BMW looks right for "Zen abd the Art". Screw the cage, keep the bikes. (Gotta get my '81 Yamaha thumper going again.)

Had already given up 'live' TV and was taping everything by the time of the Janet Jackson "Wardrobe Malfunction" Super(thing) event... due to a taping malfunction (SP vs EP, or some such) I even missed THAT.
Then, the local station that had the shows I actually WANTED to watch also had basketball, baseball, AND hockey contracts that spring. Even the 'make up' broadcasts were not the same days / times two weeks in a row... so I turned the damned thing off, and have 'watched' it maybe 10 hours (mostly Olympics) since.
Have a digital converter, have not hooked it up.
Have not missed it.

I'd comment on the video, but I was too busy watching TV to actually view it.

Now do one about the net. I suppose you would only have to change one word, really.
