Allahpundit Adds ‘Thief’ To His Resume

Blogosphere • Views: 37,237

Am I imagining things, or did LGF break a story about Reuters cropping photographs yesterday? Didn’t Killgore Trout find the first photo and tip me off? Wasn’t LGF the first to publish this? And haven’t we been credited for breaking the story by Haaretz, the Jerusalem Post, the Israeli government, the Weekly Standard, and Commentary Magazine, to name just a few?

Did I just imagine all that? No? It really happened?

So what kind of vindictive, unprofessional, unethical creep would write about this story and give all the credit to other people, knowing full well that the story originated at LGF?

This dishonest dirtbag goes by the name “Allahpundit,” and he writes for Hot Air.

UPDATE at 6/8/10 10:14:08 am:

Allahpundit has added a whiny update, complaining about being caught in unethical behavior, and pretending it was a mistake. Just like Reuters made a mistake cropping the photos.

I’ll just point out that numerous sources had already credited LGF for the story when Allahpundit decided to ignore us. So the options are: 1) he’s incompetent, or unwilling to spend time researching sources, or 2) he’s a dishonest dirtbag who thought I wouldn’t bust him publicly for it. Take your pick.

UPDATE at 6/8/10 11:00:21 am:

Allahpundit may be playing dumb, but his Neanderthal readers certainly knew what he was up to. Among a slew of insults, there are several comments like this:

Allah, TY for not linking to Charles.

Much like hateful comments on Hot Air, Allahpundit would like to pretend that LGF doesn't exist.

Nope. It wasn't on the front page yet, but Killgore Trout had a page up about it 6 minutes or so before EoZ.

Charles, I don't know if this will help, but the rabbi who did the interview with Helen Thomas asked for links to things that could "change the world or distort the truth", so I sent him this:

Dear Rabbi,

Charles Johnson and his fellow bloggers at LittleGreenFootballs.com have done yeoman work in exposing the recent biased photo-reporting by Reuters regarding the "Mavi Marmara". It seems that Reuters, once again, has let its prejudice against Israel show by deliberately cropping out images of knives and other weapons wielded by the terrorists ("peace activists") who attacked the IDF marines.

It's not a video, which is what you called for, but the articles over the past few days speak for themselves. Please check it out for yourself. As a result of Mr. Johnson's work, the government of Israel itself has protested this obvious fraud by Reuters.

And that's the way it is.

Good night, all.

11 Bagua  Mon, Jun 7, 2010 11:59:18pm

Also, Maariv, one of Israel's top three newspapers in total readership.

And notice that the blog YWL that Allahpundit links to, credits CAMARA, and CAMARA clearly credits LGF with the story.

That is irrelevant to this issue. Allahpundit obviously used YWL which credited CAMERA which clearly credited LGF. One doesn't post a major story without clicking the links. Allahpundit never mentions elderofziyon.

Please think before you post. Allahpundit has been caught red handed.

Today, bloggers stand beside and above and against the "mainstream media" (whoever that is), and pride themselves on correcting, exposing, editing, emending, amending, and rivaling "them" as citizen journalists.

The RJC is like a salmon swimming upstream, running up against a dam. The cause may be right (at least in terms of not having the Democrats always take the Jewish vote for granted), but the circumstances (the company they have to keep as Republicans) make success impossible.

BTW, is there a human being under all that makeup? Yeesh.

Gulf Oil Spill Update

In a promising development, 11,100 barrels were collected via the Top Hat on Sunday, up marginally from the 10,500 barrels the day before. Clearly BP has underestimated the size of the spill, and had thought the 15,000 bbl/day capacity of the Discoverer Enterprise was adequate, but leaned it is not.

The Top Hat can be reasonably expected to flow more as relief ports on the Top Hat remain partially open. Another ship is en route to enable BP to capture up to 20,000 bbl/day combined.

If this works as expected, we will be in vastly better shape collecting the bulk of the oil leaking.

In the coming weeks, the two 3" mud kill lines will be reversed to flow oil and gas to the Q400, providing yet more capacity to collect the oil. This will be especially appreciated during the switch over to the next Top Hat being built, which will try to overcome the sealing issues due to the mangled Riser which was chomped off with the massive sheers and didn't cut cleanly.

Besides providing a better seal, with less leakage, the Top Hat under construction will also feature a floating linkage, allowing for a rapid disconnect during a Hurricane and a quick re-connection. This minimising the time the well has to be allowed to spew freely during storms.

I have to say I'm coming to a similar conclusion. The leak is horrible and BP made some tragic decisions. But since the leak BP has been conducting a veritable Manhattan project in addressing the leak. Yet they are getting demonised for everything they do and say and are fighting a losing battle staying in the US.

Once they have killed this well, they should really consider the value in maintaining their US subsidiary. Of course they won't, they will pay out many hundreds of millions in excess of the statutory liability cap, and many hundreds of millions more to remain in the US market. Yet deep-water drilling in the US may be finished for a decade or more. This will be discussed in the BP board room.

I suppose one reason might be that all the people in this land and elsewhere depend on oil while deploring its very existence. That, indeed, is hypocrisy. I am not moved by the Prius driver who swears she will never tank at a BP station again. Let her quit driving her damned car if she wants to make a stand.

Oh, BP definitely has to kill the well and clean up the mess. The article was referring more to all the PR money and the money that will be paid out in claims.

At any rate, BP won't play stingy on this, a billion more or less will not really impact their bottom line. And here again, we should recognise them for the degree they do stand up to the plate on this. A different company may have stuck to the $75 Statutory Cap, as is their legal right. BP is ready to do the right thing and waive this without a fight.

I was holding out hope that AP might turn away from the darkside. It's funny how dedication to ideology over facts can cloud someone's judgment. He is lost.

I still find it odd that he isn't aware that the first thing his current peer group would do, should they ever get power, is make the USA a Christian nation. The second thing would be to scapegoat Atheists.

Update (6/8): It seems I’m “scum,” a “thief,” and a “dishonest dirtbag” because I thought Sammy Benoit had found the initial photo of Reuters cropping out weapons. Turns out it was Charles Johnson at LGF who broke the story; Sammy’s post only mentioned him in connection with the second photo. So here’s the official correction from a scummy dirtbag thief. -- Allahpundit

There was no compelling reason for him to post the Tweets but he did since it bolsters his victim status -- even though he was wrong. He knew all along that this Reuters story was attributable to Charles and Killgore.

I hate to see disagreements between bloggers interfere with a search for truth. I didn't like it when Lizard's would automatically reject any links to facts from sites to the left of them here in the past, nor do I like when blogs reject LGF's facts because of a petty grudge or our perceived move to the left.
As to AP, and Hot Air, I have a confession to make, I sometimes read his blog and see some wheat amid the chaff.
Hot Air and AP often post facts that are not at all welcome on his site, and AP gets a lot of flack for so doing. He's been accused of being "LGF light" for his anti-Palin posts for example.
In a perfect world, sites like Hot Air and LGF would respect each other while disagreeing on many issues, and slamming each other over past bad blood. I think AP's reluctance to credit LGF on this story was a attempt to get out a important story without seeing it rejected out of hand because of it's source.

I often did the same in the early days of my membership here. If I found a story on Huffington, or Media Matters for example, I'd try to find a indirect link. It was silly when I had to do that, and just as silly that AP has to do the same. The real truth does not just reside on the left, right or middle, it can be found everywhere and more sites like LGF need to accept that.

I will say that as much as you might want to tear into someone using terms like "dishonest dirtbag" won't get you too far. There are times you agree and this just makes it harder for the other party to acknowledge your common ground in the future.

127 Proud Kaffir  Tue, Jun 8, 2010 3:49:08pm

While Allahpundit should have given credit to the initial source, he linked to a source that linked to the initial. That's hardly plagiarism. He didn't claim the discovery as his own. Charles should request the appropriate credit, but I hardly see the need for childish name calling, even if he and Allahpundit do seem to have mutual animosity.

Did the lefty blogs properly credit Charles for Reuters' photo cropping? Oh, wait, none of the lefty blogs are reporting it. They are too busy defending Helen Thomas and piling on Israel.

If Charles wants credit- which he does deserve- he can also credit those who are reporting this discovery, and note- as he did once in the past- who is defending Israel and who is condemning her.

Sorry for the strong language -- but this is something that's very much worth getting angry about. On Sunday morning I read through every comment posted here on the subject and all the Pages, and it was clear that the first to notice the photo was Killgore Trout. Not anyone else. (If that's not true, KT, let me know, but that's what I understood.)

It is NOT COOL to grab a story that LGF breaks and attribute it to other people, apparently out of malice. And if I seemed pissed off, that's because I was. I'm not going to stand by and let that happen if I can help it.

And Killgore Trout, of course, has his own history with Hot Air, which probably contributed to the situation.
