Fox: Malaysian Muslims Cattle Brand Prostitutes
They don't even mention religions of any kind, much less specifically Islam, in any part of the article!!! Where did the "Muslims" part come from?! Just because it's MALAYSIA?!?!? This is too much for a mere *headdesk*. For this, I pick up my desk and use it to hit my head. Repeatedly.

For those of you who were on LGF as early as 2004 when Fox News was still viewed favourably, how did these kind of media manipulation feel at the time? Does anyone remember any discomfort when reading such blatantly manipulated content? Or did it just get some kind of cognitive 'pass'?
I think its an important question, given that LGF 'broke free' of this political orientation, which I think is rather rare these days. Understanding it might help develop a strategy to encourage others to see Fox News differently.

Good question. Fox has always been a partisan outlet. There was a certain degree of spin, sometimes too much. But after the election things took a very drastic turn. Much of their reporting was completely fake/made up shit and easily debunked conspiracy theories. Glenn Beck wasn't even reporting news from this century, he went off on McCarthy era communist plots and biblical prophecy. Fox has definitely changed.

Can't really say, as though I'm a member of the Class of '04, I wasn't in attendance during the Great Flouncing and didn't come around to the realization of just how full of shit Faux News is until this past year. I only showed up here around the presidential election, and had been reading off and on before then, but you have to recall that there was an enormously different crowd commenting here at the time. I was down-dinged early on, simply for saying I'd voted for Obama. They hated liberals, hated Democrats, and thought that Fox was the only network telling the truth.
Those who remain are the people who didn't storm off when it became clear that there were new people in town, and a new focus to the blog. Those who can cope with difference of opinion.

I think it's a self correcting problem. Fox News and the Republican party are establishing their reputation and nuts and liars. They have no hope of wining the next presidential election. They should be gaining control of congress by now but probably won't. They may even lose the House next time around. They'll also probably lose ground in governor races as well.

The GOP has a hope of winning, but doing so basically means tanking the economy, and the country with it. They may not allow a default, but they will continue to stand in the way of any efforts to improve the economy between now and next November, then claim that the malaise is "proof" that Obama has failed and the GOP deserves another shot.

They are playing a dangerous game and I don;t think they have the best interest of the country in mind. If they push too far more people are going to start noticing this. If they go as far as doing something as insane as defaulting on the debt I think their personal and professional consequences will be pretty extreme. I'll refrain from elaborating further.

IMO, objectivity (NOT Ayn Rand) is key to preventing bias. I used to be all for Tort reform in health care... until I dug into the numbers and realized it would hardly do anything. I was forced to admit by the data I found that I was biased toward that end because of a stereotypical unease that I have for lawyers, not because of any actual evidence. There are many, many other personal examples I could give.
It is hard to reconcile one's previously held beliefs with the real world when they come into conflict. The intelligent thing to do is change, but the emotional reaction is to want things to remain the same. The emotional reaction is also easier to choose, as it takes very little effort to dismiss things out of hand and later think up ways to rationalize being right.

Because if they get the spending cuts they're demanding and unemployment remains or increases, despite their claims that such cuts will motivate the private sector to start hiring again, then what have they got? Not only will they be dealing with the job losses due to the cuts, but also a failure for their promises to come true. And running on even more tax cuts for the rich, on the promise they will spur job creation, will be suicidal now that such cuts have been linked to plans to dismantle Medicare.

I think it had started before Beck...during the 08 elections. When you get Bill Sammon calling Obama a socialist (and later admitting even he didnt believe that) there is an agenda.
In newly uncovered audio, a Fox News executive boasts that he lied repeatedly during the closing days of the 2008 presidential campaign when he speculated on-air "about whether Barack Obama really advocated socialism."
Speaking in 2009 onboard a pricey Mediterranean cruise sponsored by a right-wing college, Fox Washington managing editor Bill Sammon described his attempts the previous year to link Obama to "socialism" as "mischievous speculation." Sammon, who is also a Fox News vice president, acknowledged that "privately" he had believed that the socialism allegation was "rather far-fetched."

as for the economy..the GOP is positioning themselves as the hero's that won't give in to liberal spending...it worked last year, why won't it work again?
I don't think it worker for them last year. They should have gained much more ground than they did. Historically, Americans like opposite parties in the White House and Congress. The Wingnuts threw away seats by running loons like Odonnel, Sharron Angle, Doug Hoffman, etc in races they should have won. After things like the Ryan Budget and extreme state agendas in Florida, Arizona and Wisconsin has made them fairly unpopular. I don't think it's outrageous to speculate that even a state like Texas may turn blue in the next decade if this keeps up.

NPR/Pacifica radio was just awful too. So much so one reason NPR is far more centrist is the end of the Bush bashing. Just removing that particular left wing chip on their shoulder moved them towards center by quite a bit. I used to joke their tag line should be "Galloway all day".
To be fair, though, the rest of the world was pretty harsh as well. "Cowboy Diplomacy" did not go over well abroad, and there were some legitimate ridiculous things that people in that administration did. All of Iraq comes to mind.

And running on even more tax cuts for the rich, on the promise they will spur job creation, will be suicidal now that such cuts have been linked to plans to dismantle Medicare.
Last I checked lowering taxes for the rich and dismantling medicare were both very unpopular with voters. It's going to cost hem.

The announcement came less than an hour after the Journal Sentinel contacted the governor's office to ask about the executive's criminal history.

too many ifs...nothing is for certain but I doubt the GOP will get the cuts they demand, which is the foundation for this premise...way too many variables to make any call
Such things are always a dice throw. If the cuts don't happen and job losses continue, they blame the deficit and run on cutting the deficit and fixing the country. If they get the cuts and job losses halt or reverse, then they take credit and claim that "fiscal responsibility" has made our economy profitable again.
Welcome to politics, America-style.

I wouldn't dismiss them at all. But look at Governors Walker and Scott. They are very unpopular in their states. They have gone too far and are perceived as shilling for the corporations and super wealthy. Paul Ryan has forced republicans to adopt his budget which is political suicide. I think the voters are bright enough to know they dont like it...at all.
Also, I do the the TP has wained somewhat. Might resurface stronger toward the election though.

The Communist model has failed. The terminally free Free Market model is showing some rather large ulcerations. The Socialist model, being a combination of the two, spans too large a spectrum to really analyze the best mixture so trial and error is our only option. Unfortunately pragmatism gets beat on by dogmatic ideologues who refuse to let go of their cherished fears.

From what I can figure looking at the site, taxes and gun control. They don't like that in Colorado, there is more stringent laws on getting guns from gun shows.
I suspect more guns will bring freedom from fear, right?

Not all sides are equal so playing the blame game can affect voter responses. It's a spin, but a spin that can affect quality of life.
Some do it just to blow off steam.

Still don't know aht point you were /are trying to make
You asked about GMU's rep
One word,,
EXCELLENT
Now, as to the goofy poll you're all worried about
That falls under the the "eh" category
Who was asked?
Where were they from?
How was the question posed?
Faculty, staff, students, a combo, or just a select few?
(and no, I don't care for the answers to any of the above)
To re-state, GMU's rep
EXCELLENT

MSNBC was pretty bad under the Bush regime. Lot's of hitler comparisons, bogus crap about the Downing Street Memo, fantasies about trying elected officials for war crimes, etc. It was pretty bad but Fox has far surpassed what the lefty outlets did.
MSNBC didn't go left until after Bush got re-elected.

as for the economy..the GOP is positioning themselves as the hero's that won't give in to liberal spending...it worked last year, why won't it work again?
Because of the idiot pub governors in swing states who are overreaching their agenda. Thank you, Walker, Scott, Kasich - you're making the Dem job much easier.
