Romney: Gingrich the ‘Zany’

Stand back, it’s the Z word
Politics • Views: 23,068

Look out, Mitt Romney’s breaking out the attack rhetoric: Romney Warns of Nominating ‘Zany’ Gingrich.

Mitt Romney is sharpening his warning to Republicans about the consequences of nominating Newt Gingrich, declaring in an interview on Wednesday: “Zany is not what we need in a president.”

“Zany is great in a campaign. It’s great on talk radio. It’s great in print, it makes for fun reading,” Mr. Romney told The New York Times. “But in terms of a president, we need a leader, and a leader needs to be someone who can bring Americans together.”

“Zany?” That’s the worst he can do? I’ve always thought of “zany” as kooky, but in a funny, comical sort of way. Jim Carrey is zany, for example.

I think a better word for Gingrich might be “loony,” connoting “deranged, sociopathic, and dangerous.”

2 1/2 Presidential Nominees.

Would not make a great sitcom.

New Hampshire Shore.

Would not make a great reality TV show.

I vote we go for this Survivor style.

"Zany"? Of all the words I can think of to describe Newt Gingrich, "zany" isn't even in the top 100.

5 engineer cat  Wed, Dec 14, 2011 3:07:51pm

'zany'

iirc, from 'zianni', venetian dialect for 'gianni', and a character in commedia del'arte

6 Kid A  Wed, Dec 14, 2011 3:10:35pm

it occured to me the other day that many of newt's pronouncements sound like the kind of things sociopathic paranoid mass murderers write to 'justify' themselves, such as his ravings about "gay and secular fascism"

11 theheat  Wed, Dec 14, 2011 3:18:26pm

Zany in the place of "crazy," "madcap," "bonkers," "batshit fucking nuts."

Zany is the watered down sad sack no-impact-whatsoever ho-hum version, and it suits Mitt perfectly, because that's him to a T.

"Vituperative" is a good word. Roget's has "contumelious" as a synonym, which of course means "exhibiting contumely". Contumely: 1. Rudeness or contempt arising from arrogance; insolence.
2. An insolent or arrogant remark or act.

That sounds more like Newt than Mitt, but not by much.

The GOP base seem like they want, most of all, revenge on Obama, and Newt is sort of the guy that would be that revenge. Mitt Romney looks, in comparison, dangerously reasonable and not at all the sort of satisfying victory that they're looking for. They desire satisfaction, not a reasonable candidate :D

I think that's a pro-Mitt narrative. If Paul wins Iowa, everyone will just say that it is an artifact of how meaningless and weird the Iowa caucuses are. If Newt wins Iowa, that could be the beginning of a Newt bandwagon that endangers the Mitt candidacy. (Especially if he wins big.) If Mitt loses NH, he's toast, because a Newt on the rise will crush him in SC, have gone 3-for-3 in the first three contests, and be close to closing it out. So Mitt needs the Iowa result to be as meaningless as possible. Who better for that job than Ron Paul?

That's kind of what FF does lately, it has become bloatware that loves to crash. They're probably working on it, but it may take a few revisions.

I'm more interested in how it pulled a BSOD. Are you running Win7, Vista or XP?

In the meantime, navigate to Mozilla and download the latest FF, uninstall your current version and then install the newest.

I've been having similar problems with FF. The navigation bar only occasionally displays URL's and a lot of videos won't play. I tried switching back to IE but it makes way too much racket with clicks, bleebs, bloops and that's stupid "information bar" that keeps popping up. Check your DL speed and compare it to what it's supposed to be. FF has trouble with balky Internet connections.

Computers don't normally suffer slowdown from old age, they just go from functional to mostly dead to dead.

In the poll, none of the above. The choices are rather benevolent. I tried to pick one, and none of them felt right. I finally arrived at a word that seems perfect for Gingrich: sociopath. The guy has no conscience. He really isn't bothered by anything he does, no matter what the effect on a spouse, or the entire country. All he knows is that he wants to be President, and he's going for it.

My wonky sunroof actually fixed itself (it wouldn't close all the way, then suddenly one day it did) so I'm keeping an open mind *_*

The volvo would do this haunted-volvo thing where it would set off the car alarm by itself, but the speaker was disconnected, so it'd just buzz quietly and angrily flash its hazard lights in the middle of the night

it did that on the way to Burning Man and we about had a heart attack, since the car won't start in that condition. Then it magically decided to stop and let us drive again, after we locked and unlocked the doors a few times :P

Have you run over any black cats with it? If so, you'll have to perform a sacrifice to the cat god.

You might want to do a cold boot. Turn it off, unplug it, pull the battery, wait 30 secs and then put it back together.

That reminds me, That battery needs to be changed every year or two or you'll start getting mystery crashes.

My XP is installing 9 freakin' Updates right now, maybe your Vista was trying to do something like that while you were watching the video. I find Firefox works ok if I don't open too many tabs at once, kill the plugin container periodically, and close & reopen the browser every now and then.

I think there is an incantation that's supposed to be said while you're performing that ritual, but I can't remember what it is.

The other day, Facebook was telling everyone what articles I was reading on a certain news service. Only, I hadn't done it on facebook.

Very funny.

While watching a YouTube video, Firefox froze on frame, and audio kept going. When trying to end the now frozen Firefox, it gave my computer the BSOD, its first.

Since this incident, Firefox can come up, but won't navigate. I'm right now using Chrome, which has massive problems, but can navigate. What happened to Firefox, and how do I fix it.

Had almost the identical experience while watching a video on Firefox this week. Firefox is now USELESS on my Mac. Even before this week, I have found the updates this year to be a mess...I think I have had more crashes in the last 8 months than in the previous 6 years.

If you are having problems with FF and Chrome then I would suspect it is something related to your internet connection, hard disk, ram, etc. It would be rare to have two browsers get corrupted at the same time without something causing it.

facebook is this all-encompassing privacy destroyer that hooks into a dizzying number of sites, also my family uses it, so they'll start trying to get ahold of me through it, and I don't want that

Obama and the Dems fold....
Senate Democrats to offer new payroll tax plan

Senate Democrats will offer a new proposal for extending the payroll tax cut that drops a provision to tax income over $1 million, a Democratic source told CNN on Wednesday.

The so-called "millionaires tax" was opposed by Republicans who had blocked previous proposal by Senate Democrats to prevent the payroll tax on workers from returning to a higher rate a the end of the year.

No further details were immediately available on the new proposal, which emerged from a White House meeting between Senate Democratic leaders and President Barack Obama on Wednesday afternoon, the source said.

Why don't we just stop pretending and just turn the entire government over to the Republicans? There's not any difference between Dems giving them what the want and Republicans just taking it.

Probably. I'm pretty meh about the pipeline anyways. Go ahead and build it.

The only folks who would seem to benefit from the pipeline are those who've either got oil futures or oil company stock in their portfolios. Even by TransCanada's own paperwork, they don't expect that there will be more than 6,000 jobs created, with all but around 9% of those being in Canada.

True, but let's not forget that Reagan and Carter were in a statistical tie until the month of the election. I think Obama will win, as he's no Jimmy Carter and Newt Gingrich is pretty much the polar opposite of Ronald Reagan (fairly knowledgeable, but zero charisma), but I'm not counting my chickens just yet.

Really disliked as...what? A person? That's a lie, because his favorable ratings are still pretty high. His job performance has waned, but if you look around, Congress' job approval ratings are lower than snake shit. BO's job approval numbers are roughly on par with Reagan's at this point in his first term. They're that low because folks believe nothing's getting accomplished, which is (rightly) getting blamed on a do-nothing Congress.

I guess I should ask a clearer question. There are several ways to move the data, one way is to create and transfer a clone, an identical copy. Another way is to reinstall Windows, then use Windows' 'Easy Transfer' to transfer the settings and data. Is the second method what they used, or the first? Did they even tell you?

The reason it matters is the first way transfers damaged files, where the second method doesn't.

229 Prononymous, rogue demon hunter  Wed, Dec 14, 2011 5:40:12pm

Obama being reelected is far from a certainty at this point. That's why it is important to not take it for granted.

We are looking at the hilarious candidate lineup now and trying to look too far into the future. But things could change once it gets whittled down to a single candidate. The Republicans could end up with a better ground game. There could be an October surprise. Obama could do/say something stupid. Who knows.

As it is I'll be laughing at the current state of GOP politics. But that doesn't mean I'll be complacent as the election nears.
