As with his endorsement of gay marriage, this will prove to be a popular decision by the president...and a very difficult subject for Republicans to criticize without sounding like the bigots they are. Let's not forget Newt Gingrich and Rick Perry both made comments in the primaries that supported this kind of policy change.

I think Perry being a relative progressive on immigration hurt him with primary voters. Really, I was honestly and pleasantly surprised to hear Newt and Rick who are normally dicks sounding like decent people on immigration. Mitt of course pandered to the worst elements as you can see with his Kobach hire and "self-deport" nonsense.

What is the benefit of deporting undocumented aliens who come into the country at a young age? I've never understood that 'side' of the argument. Who benefits from the expense of deporting them, the emotional pain of their separation?

The point for those who need to feel powerful and special is to objectify another group of people. Since it is now illegal to have slaves or to treat any category of citizen as second class (you know, socialism), they've moved to non-citizens.

The idea that everyone is human, equal in the eyes of the law and in their G-d's eyes, is not something they can accept.

It's like the argument about illegal voters. There is a chance that a few might exist, so if there is collateral damage, so to speak, when searching for the few, that's the price we must pay for keeping democracy safe.//

By the way a kind note to the RNC chair but pandering to votes is what your candidate does when he hires a few Latino advisers and uses that as "proof" he's concerned with issues that matter to Latino voters. Actually supporting a policy that many voters support isn't pandering. It's policy. I know the Romney campaign and RNC doesn't know the difference but it is what it is.

Actually, this is how the Presidency is designed to work. More bang for the buck?

I guess you could make the same argument that by going after the parents, that the kids might be forced to go with them or else leave them with no options other than to fend for themselves.

Like I pointed out upthread, the President is well within his rights to direct enforcement of laws on the books. It's the last-ditch option for the executive when he/she doesn't like what the legislature has passed and they've overridden his veto - or in this case, stalled indefinitely without passing the bill containing the desired non-enforcement.

RNC Takes Down Latino Outreach Site

The RNC has taken down its Latino outreach site, RNCLatinos.com, instead redirecting to a volunteer sign up page on the RNC’s main website. The barebones RNCLatinos.com had been plagued by a series of embarassing missteps that the GOP blamed on the “outside vendor” who crafted it. They included the use of a picture of Asian children for the site’s banner image, a poll asking users whether they were disappointed in President Obama (they responded they weren’t), a blog page dominated by spam for handbags and headphones, and a “Who Are We?” section left entirely blank. On Thursday night, the RNC took down portions of the site, including its banner and blog section, but the entire page was down as of Friday morning.

I can almost picture Cartman saying "Screw you guys!" as he shut the site down.

He abused that privilege in no uncertain terms.

The fact he worked for the Daily Caller is not germane to anything. There are plenty of reporters at the DC who do their work in an appropriate manner. You may not like their politics but their POV isn't the issue.

There are plenty of reporters on other stations or outlets I disagree with.

Beck: 'I Have Seen the Finger of God'

During his speech, Beck declared repeatedly that "I have seen the finger of God" and assured the audience that miracles are coming ... but only if we turn back to God , warning that if we don't God "is going to withdraw his protection" over this nation:

Beck's Finger of God looks remarkably like the Penis of Douchebaggery.

To these people, Obama has no right to be President: he is not even an American, he should have been impeached years ago, etc.

This justifies any acts of major disrespect shown to him and the office of the Presidency, which they seem him as having usurped.

Mitch McConnell: Disclosure of who pays for political advertising is harassment

MCCONNELL: Now, to most people the idea of disclosure sounds perfectly reasonable. and throughout my career I, too, have consistently called for full and timely disclosure for all contributions to candidates and parties. Candidates and to parties. But what we’re talking about here is entirely different. What this bill calls for is government-compelled disclosure of contributions to all grassroots groups, which is far more dangerous than its proponents are willing to admit. Because disclosure is forced upon some but not all, it’s not an act of good government. It’s a political weapon. And that’s precisely what those who are pushing this legislation have in mind. This is nothing less than an effort by the government itself to expose its critics to harassment and intimidation, either by government authorities or through third-party allies, and that should concern every one of us. Those pushing the DISCLOSE Act have a simple view: if the Supreme Court is no longer willing to limit the speech of those who oppose their agenda, we’ll find other ways to do it.

Mitch McConnell: Disclosure of who pays for political advertising is harassment

Of course, Kennedy in his Citizens United opinion was very clear in stating that he thought removing the restrictions were all fine and dandy because disclosure would solve everything. I wonder if he'd rethink that now. Probably not.

What torment. What kind of a country are we?

Speaking of that...as a law-abiding conservative, I have been appalled at the lawless subculture spawned by the illegal immigrant situation. It needs to be solved, and finding some sort of compromise is the only possible way. As long as people can't go to the police, they are free to be the victims of an ever-increasing criminal class.

Mental note to self: Do not piss off the President.

This is the president who took out Osama and other Al Qaeda operatives, and when push comes to shove, gets things done. This is the president the RWNJ says has established detention camps for "those he doesn't like."

So, what could be more logical than to heckle the president during a televised announcement? Was Munro drunk again, or just plain stupid?
