Massachusetts Attorney General Exonerates Planned Parenthood of Bogus “Baby Parts” Smear Campaign

The fanatics’ lies are falling apart
Politics • Views: 61,855

A couple of days ago Indiana’s Department of Health exonerated Planned Parenthood of the spurious right wing charge that they profit from the sale of “baby parts.” (To use the deliberately grotesque phrase being endlessly repeated by anti-choice fanatics.)

And Planned Parenthood has also been exonerated of these false charges in Massachusetts; Attorney General Maura Healey announced this week that Planned Parenthood is “fully compliant” with all applicable laws.

“Over the past week, my office has conducted a thorough review and found that Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts’ health care centers are fully compliant with state and federal laws regarding the disposition of fetal tissue,” Healey said in a statement. “Although donation of fetal tissue is permissible under state and federal law, PPLM does not have a tissue donation program. There is no evidence that PPLM is involved in any way in the buying or selling of tissue. As such, our review is complete.”

Healey also voiced strong support for the organization. “I will fight to support Planned Parenthood and preserve the essential health services that they provide to so many women,” she said, in her statement. “I urge everyone who cares about these issues to do the same.”

NBCDFW reports that derp-spewing Texas Attorney-General Ken Paxton was indicted by a grand jury on Tuesday and the indictments will be unsealed Monday.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton Indicted, Sources Say

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has been indicted on three charges by a grand jury in Collin County, two people close to the case told NBC 5 on Saturday.
The indictments were issued on Tuesday and immediately sealed, the sources said, adding they are set to be unsealed as early as Monday in Collin County.
A Tarrant County judge has been appointed to hear the case, the sources said.

Naturally Paxton’s fellow Republicans blame a demon-rat conspiracy, even though they have not seen the evidence themselves:

Rep. Matt Krause, a Republican from Fort Worth and a longtime Paxton supporter, issued a statement standing by the attorney general.
“Unfortunately, Texans have seen indictments used as political weapons,” he said. “As recently as last week, an indictment was thrown out against former Governor Rick Perry.”

I would be very surprised to learn that any Planned Parenthood has been breaking laws regarding fetal tissue (or anything else). They know there really are groups out to get them. Legislatures pass gotcha laws all the time to trap abortion providers, so they have to be vigilant about dotting every i and crossing every t.

It is true they were fooled by this group with their fake IDs and business cards, but that hadn’t been tried before. They know now.

Scott Walker is a terribly underrated candidate, and I suspect he is going to emerge from the fracas looking moderate and rational (but only by comparison)

I made a similar prediction about Rick Perry and was dead wrong but I got a bad feeling about Scott. He has chosen his fights well and almost always come out ahead despite concerted opposition.

Trump may run third party, but we can’t count on it. I remember in 2012 a lot of people thought Ron Paul would run third party. I didn’t think so because I thought the Pauls were setting the stage for Rand’s run this time around, though its not going too well.

I tend to agree that Trump won’t be the nominee, because no matter how well he polls his campaign’s ground game will probably be weak. I’m seriously starting to doubt that Jeb will be the nominee however, because the anybody but Bush faction of the GOP base is proving to be absolutely enormous, and I don’t think ground game alone can overcome that.

That is where Trump may be playing a role. If he becomes the de facto anti-establishment candidate, then the party will have to rally around Bush.

re: #13 Wendell Zurkowitz (slave to the waffle light)

My thoughts are that Scott Walker only looks good if you don’t look too hard. He’s a singularly stupid man who’s managed to get where he is by doing what he’s told, and I don’t think he’s going to hold up on the national stage.

He’s also got a shitload of shit that he needs to keep covered. He’s been able to do that in WI now that the courts are bought off but, again, I don’t think he’s going to hold up once he’s in the national spotlight. There is some juicy red meat in his recent past and I don’t think he’s smart enough to react in real time.

Nobody wants to look too hard at him, they just want a nice, soft surface onto whom they can project their ideal image of the anti-Hillary.

And that is what the party needs to win.

Not sure about that. The only fairly reliable support Bush can count on is from voters currently going for Rubio, Christie and Kasich, giving him between 23 to 25%. Trump is already past that on his own. On the other side Trump has the money to stay in and can for now count on the bulk of supporters from Cruz, Carson, Huckabee, Jindal and Santorum to eventually funnel their way towards him. Meaning the anti Bush protest vote already looks to be around 55, maybe even 60%. It’s also not clear to me where Walker’s supporters end up going if he’s forced to drop out.

If I were Jeb’s people I’d be very, very worried about where this is headed.

Trump has high unfavorables which I believe put a ceiling on him which will prevent his nomination. I learned last time around that the establishment will usually get its candidate even if he is flawed. I thought there was no way the man who enacted the model for Obamacare could be nominated for President by the GOP, but Charles correctly predicted that Romney would be the nominee even when he was struggling to stay ahead of the likes of Santorum and Gingrich. Don’t get me wrong, I would love for Trump to be the GOP nominee; I just don’t think its likely we will be that lucky.

This would all hold true if GOP wasn’t a rapidly de-volving organism. I’m not sure how long it will remain reasonable to forecast the future based on past primary contests. We’re already seeing some breaking with those models, by all rights Santorum should be the favorite based on his second place finish last time around, since that held true in 2008 and 2012.

Jeb is also showing himself to be amazingly uncharismatic, failing so far to even clear the low hurdle left by Romney. I’m seriously unimpressed.

I don’t think America is ready for a quarter flounder to be President. Also, a nominee who can’t possibly carry their own State of residence should be a non-starter after Romney. Except the “its your turn” to get the nomination only applies to establishment candidates. Since Goldwater, its never the turn of extremists in the GOP. Reagan was conservative, yes, but he wasn’t the far-right President of GOP mythology.

Just because something often happened in the past doesn’t mean it will happen in the future. Romney was sort of a lame candidate but he was miles ahead of where Jeb! is now. Jeb! has only 1/3 of Mitt’s support and two other competitors for the establishment vote. Plus the wingnuts are more ornery this year. In a 4 or 5 way race Trump could pull out a plurality and throw it into a brokered convention. ahahahahah!

I do not understand his appeal, which scares me. I clearly understood the appeal of Rick Perry, but he crashed and burned early.

Walker seems to be innocuous enough to be what they need right now: someone who pisses liberals off, someone who can be the anti-Hillary, someone with serious wingnut credentials (union-busting, budget-cutting and Koch-coddling), but not as massively looneybins (at least on the surface) as to scare off a lot of moderates.

If Trump can maintain his hold on the base he’ll be in a strong position to get the nominee to accept Cruz, even if The Donald flames out in later primaries. I doubt that Trump’s ego would be satisfied by the VP slot though being a kingmaker might suffice. There’s also the fact that Trump would, if elected, have to put all of his assets in a blind trust. Nice gear. I’ve been needing a better belt axe for a while. From the write up, their price is good for what you’re getting.

The belt axe was smaller than I was used to when I got it, but it holds an absolutely insane edge. Perfect for light camping use and preparing kindling, not much more. I got mine in the browned finish a couple years ago, love it.

re: #60 goddamnedfrank

My takedown bucksaw came in the mail today and I’ve been sawing all the stuff and smelling the sawdust all man-style. I’ve bought a hatchet, a langett axe and a fokos / valaska from the same blacksmith, he makes really good shit. He and his wife unfortunately advertise on the basis of being Christian homeschooling weirdos, so you know I wouldn’t even mention this if the quality wasn’t there.

Also they refunded part of the shipping price without being asked, which was nice because it was ridiculously high. Anyway the bucksaw is on sale so get one, go saw some wood, scratch your balls, then saw some more wood. Feels good, man.

I’m an old lady and am fortunate to have a younger husband and even younger strapping young men neighbors who are very happy to perform the wood sawing and stacking for me.

I’ll just leave it at that…

I don’t think America is ready for a quarter flounder to be President. Also, a nominee who can’t possibly carry their own State of residence should be a non-starter after Romney. Of course this applies to Trump as well. The GOP needs someone from a swing State, the question is whether or not the base will let them have one.

Walker looks fucking stoned…

re: #61 Wendell Zurkowitz (slave to the waffle light)

I do not understand his appeal, which scares me. I clearly understood the appeal of Rick Perry, but he crashed and burned early.

Walker seems to be innocuous enough to be what they need right now: someone who pisses liberals off, someone who can be the anti-Hillary, someone with serious wingnut credentials (union-busting, budget-cutting and Koch-coddling), but not as massively looneybins (at least on the surface) as to scare off a lot of moderates.

If Trump throws his support behind him, he could really pull out ahead.

I’ve come to the conclusion that there are two groups of people who love any of the GOP clown car:
1) People who really believed the trickle-down theory and work hard and succeed.
2) Paid agitators to make those in #1 feel even more validated in thinking they’ve been robbed by liberals.

I’m really weight conscious for most gear, and a 12 oz belt axe with edge enough to bite is not easy to find. Can always baton it through with another piece of wood if needed. The bucksaw is honestly too heavy in my opinion for most solo or two person backpacking uses. It’s perfect however for larger groups with distributed loads and pulling behind in a Bob Trailer for mountain bike trail clearing. The weight of the larger axes are really only useful for home or cabin use. The fokos / valaskas are great decorations, also useful if you’re traveling with small dogs or pack goats and want a walking stick that will also intimidate the odd predator from getting any ideas.

I joke, but the items that do the most real good, I think, are corneas, and mine are in pretty good shape. I’ll bet though, that as small as your corneas are, if you had to ship them across the country, it would wind up costing $50-$100, just at a guess. Somebody is making money in that process, all right, but they’re not “selling” my organs for a “profit”. These people see exactly what they want to see, and nothing is going to convince them that their fantasies aren’t real.

I don’t see that happening.

Trump is a birther. He thinks Cruz is ineligible because Cruz was born in Canada.

Figure pretty much any shipment of live anything will have to be on ice packs, and no more than overnight. Shippers cost about $4. Ice packs, probably about a buck or two. Shipping coast-to-coast via FedEx overnight of a ~10# box = $100-150, depending on whether you want morning delivery.

Not that I haven’t already decided on what I would prefer should things become so dire I would need such a weapon.

One of those guys that used the entire bottle of lighter fluid, probably. Although I imagine people would probably say much the same thing if they’d seen one of the times I caught my gas grill on fire.

Yep. Either the AK47 or the AK74. Beretta 92F as for the pistol. You can fight a minor war with those.

OK, this guy’s race remains to be seen, but I could see it happening to anybody. The idea of going to the police for “help” is just incomprehensible to me.

AK-94. Double-acting gas and recoil action and a bullet with a void towards the tip so it tumbles after impact for maximum damage (like the AR-15 did before the Army got their meathooks on it). What’s not to like?

When I was a little kid, a poster at school advised “The policeman is your friend! If you need help, go to a policeman.” Since the only police I knew were British bobbies and USAF SPs, it probably made sense then and there. No longer, if it ever did in this country.

I’d go in exactly the opposite direction, Smith and Wesson Model 60 no dash. If things get dire my theory is that any kind of combat rifle or even a full sized handgun can quickly become a liability, somebody is going to see you with it at a distance and murder your ass for it. The same thing that makes small handguns such a criminal problem in normal society, their concealability, is exactly what you want in most SHTF scenarios. You’re going to want something very reliable that you can hide easily.

Ahahahaha, no. I’m one of the younger ones here. My 31st birthday is fast approaching. I grew up with a couple of police officers for close family, and they were great guys who helped people and believed in the whole “serve and protect” thing.

A sawed-off 12-gauge wouldn’t hurt either, especially if you could conceal it.

I’ve been cycling a few times with a heat index of 115. I in can’t even begin to imagine what 163 would be like. That’s insane

I did a crit once when the actual temp (not heat index) was 105 F in the shade. I don’t remember if I got pulled or quit, but I do remember that I started to get chills. Lots of people left that race in ambulances. I must have fried my brain a little because I am pretty sure I am not quite as smart as used to I be.

Trump has the loyal support of the part of the GOP base that likes how he is undeterred by facts from telling them what they like to hear, and likes seeing how he fights back and refuses to back down when he is wrong. Nothing Trump says or does is outrageous enough to turn that 20% against him, because they are the minority that likes his outrageous conduct. He will continue appearing to be “in the lead,” as long the remaining 80% of the GOP support is divided among 18 or so other wannabes.

But that Trump support amounts to maybe 10% of the registered voters, and no one stands a chance of winning the GOP nomination, let alone winning a regular election, with 10% of the vote and nearly all of the remaining 90% against him.
