Erick Erickson Responds to Kim Davis Contempt of Court Arrest: “What Day Does the Civil War Start?”

Time to start killing in the name of Jesus
Wingnuts • Views: 57,836

Erick Erickson, designated by The Atlantic as the “most powerful conservative in America,” thinks religious conservatives need to respond to the arrest of anti-gay Kentucky Clerk Kim Davis by killing in the name of Jesus.

Oh wait — he was just “joking,” you say? Har har. That’s a real knee-slapper.

What day does Erick go on a diet?

I’m not gay, but when you want to deny rights to my fellow citizens and say war is on the way, I take it personally. Eric can go to hell. Gluttony is a sin.

I wonder if he got the idea from Pryzbylewski in “The Wire”

The only ballistic evidence found at the site came from the officer himself, who was a part-time officer, a police spokesman said.

He said police were making the statement to “make sure the public knows that they are now safe.”

I see an old man in a young man’s body. Really the difference between his and my age is around if not smaller than that and me and my kid brother but when I read him, I feel like I’m reading a 85 year old man’s ramblings. No disrespect to older Lizards meant but man these younger conservatives who act like old people greatly amuse m.

The awesome thing is that awful people just like Erick E. and Bryan F. used to have real power in the real world. Now their power is limited to weak-minded people who are persuaded by their bizarre “arguments.”

I mean I hated the decision but I didn’t think it meant that the five needed to be removed or in Cruz/Santorum’s case want to destroy the system as a whole which has shown it does wok. The right’s reaction to the court when they rule against them is how a toddler reacts when they’re told no. Except I think you can teach the toddler better ways to respond.

Then Kim’s course of action is crystal-clear: she must vacate her position if she doesn’t want her John Hancock of marriage licenses for teh icky, hellbound gays.

She won’t do it though, at least not under her own free will.

No, in that grand wingnut tradition, she thinks the law should be changed to accommodate her hatred, because it’s her “religious beliefs.”

That’s the expected outcome of traditionally extending special privilege to religious people. Of course many of them think they’re special, and the world should obey their whims. The longer we let that go on, the bolder, and more entitled they’ll get.

jaunte  Sep 3, 2015 • 1:25:42pm
Bunning said society relies virtually every day on people complying with court orders and that to allow otherwise would create a slippery slope.

The court “cannot condone willful disobedience,” he said. “If you give people opportunity to choose what orders they follow, that is what potentially causes problems.”

Davis, who was tearful at times, testified that she could not obey the order, and that God’s law trumps the court.

“My conscience will not allow it,” she said. “… God’s moral law convicts me and conflicts with my duties.”

But for some reason, she wants to stay in her $80,000 a year job, rather than resign and have a clear conscience.

It’s worth noting that conservatism as a defined political philosophy (as opposed to mindless traditionalism) started as a reaction to the excesses of the French Revolution. That kind of conservatism has its uses in times of over-enthusiastic reform and change for its own sake.

However, the US has never gone though anything like the upheavals of the French Revolution, and so US conservatism, having no proper purpose, has turned into all the worst elements of US society banding together to oppose all progress and to undo all past progress.

I’m rather reminded of the bigoted bakers who’ve tried to argue that they have a “right” to turn away same-sex couples because their bigotry takes precedent over all secular laws. They could easily avoid the issue by simply not selling wedding cakes, but they instead demand that the law bend to accommodate them, granting them an exemption from a law that secular folks have to obey. Right, I mean if they’re uncomfortable doing business with gay people, that’s fine but the solution to this isn’t to cry about how they’re being discriminated against because they can’t discriminate against people. You have the right to believe being gay is whatever you want to just as you did before the USSC decision but SSM is law and if you’re dealing in the sphere of the public where you provide or have to provide a good whether that’s a cake or marriage certificate to gay people, it’s either get over your prejudice or find a new line of work.

So, Cory Booker came out for the deal and his friend Shmuley Boteach lost his shit:

Statement by Rabbi Shmuley Boteach on the Announcement of
Senator Cory Booker that He will Support the Iran Deal:
Nearly 25 years ago, I introduced Cory Booker to the Jewish community and had him serve as President of our Jewish student group at Oxford University, the L’Chaim Society. Ever since then, I have been proud to share a stage with him at countless Synagogues and Jewish communal events and we have studied thousands of hours of Torah together amid a mutual commitment to universal Jewish values. The substance of our exchange often revolved around the shared suffering of our two peoples and the horrors visited upon them due to irrational hate.
Cory is my soul-friend and no matter of policy will ever get personal or come between us.
But in his statement today, supporting a deal which he himself calls “dangerous” and “deeply-flawed,” Cory never even once condemns the Iranian promise to exterminate the Jews of Israel or distance himself from a deal which he admits will legitimize a genocidal regime.

[many words later]

I realize that amid his troubling and tragic choice to support this agreement, Cory pledges to be “united with all who are determined to ensure that we never again see genocide in the world.”
But I remind him about the famous and prophetic words of Elie Wiesel, whom I had asked Cory to meet with to discuss this deal, “We have learned to trust the threats of our enemies more than the promises of our friends.”

Since the pledge would be happily violated by the only candidate who it was designed to constrain in the first place, it has little practical significance. But it does make the Republican Party look pathetic. They’re so scared of the guy leading their primary race (as well they should be) that they have to beg him to pinkie-swear that he won’t turn around and screw them over in the general election if they’re lucky enough for him not to be their nominee. But their real problem may be that by the time they get there, he will have already done enough damage that it’ll be too late.

6 million Jews, 5 million others and they want to compare that to a hypocritical freak who wont do her job. Honest question, just how many people will they fool with this crap?

To be pedantic, the “5 million others” figure is a myth.

forward.com

Actually, Wiesenthal’s most well-known philosophical battle was with Wiesel. The two squared off indirectly in the late 1970s over the question of who were the true victims of the Holocaust; that is, was the Holocaust a Jewish event or a universal event? Wiesel argued that the Holocaust was a uniquely Jewish experience, settling the role of non-Jews in the Holocaust with the turn of a phrase: “While not all victims were Jews, all Jews were victims.”
Wiesenthal, in contrast, argued that the Holocaust was the death of 11 million people, 6 million Jews and 5 million non-Jews. The figure was invented: If we consider all civilian non-Jewish deaths, then it is too small; if we consider only those who died at the hands of the Nazi killing apparatus, then it is too large. But the central point was Wiesenthal’s belief that the inclusion of non-Jews was essential to his postwar commitment. Nations had to feel that they had lost their own if they were to bring the war criminals to justice.

If one used the Holocaust criteria to estimate the numbers for non-Jews, the ballpark figure would be between 7 and 8 million.

What a petulant ass looks like.

A judge in Tennessee told a married couple seeking a divorce that he could not grant one for them, arguing that the Supreme Court’s same-sex marriage decision left him unclear as to when a marriage ends.

“The conclusion reached by this Court is that Tennesseans have been deemed by the U.S. Supreme Court to be incompetent to define and address such keystone/central institutions such as marriage, and, thereby, at minimum, contested divorces,” Hamilton County Chancellor Jeffrey Atherton wrote when denying the divorce petition, according to the Chattanooga Times Free Press.

We finally know how many trees there are in the world

[…]

The team used a similar technique to estimate that the planet is losing 15 billion trees a year, and replacing only 5 billion of them.

“If you do the math the net loss is about 1/3 of a percent of all trees globally,” said Harry Glick, a post-doctoral student at Yale who also worked on the study. “That’s not insignificant.”

Crowther added that one of the most dominant themes of the study is how large an effect humans are having on the tree population on the planet.

“Human activity came out as the strongest control on tree density across all biomes,” he said. “It really highlights how big of an impact humans are having on the Earth on a global scale.”

How many trees are there in the world?

actually, according to the archaeological record, it took several thousand years of domestication for sheep to develop woolly coats

before that they were covered with a type of fur/hair known as ‘kemp’

cows likewise underwent a domestication process that resulted in modern cows which are unable to survive in the wild

The history of the domesticated sheep goes back to between 11000 and 9000 BC, and the domestication of the wild mouflon in ancient Mesopotamia. Sheep are among the first animals to have been domesticated by humans, and there is evidence of sheep farming in Iranian statuary dating to that time period. These sheep were primarily raised for meat, milk, and skins. Woolly sheep began to be developed around 6000 BC in Iran

Before, when opponents talked about marriage equality, they said it would lead to men marrying their toasters. That was last year’s model. It didn’t sell.)…”

Hungarian police have resumed allowing refugees to board trains for Germany. There are reports that some trains stop in Hungary and the refugees are disembarked to register for yet-to-be-built transit camps. To give you an idea of the scope of the situation, there are currently 3000 refugees squatting in and around the Budapest train station.
Hungary may have been asked by the Germans to hold the refugees temporarily. Angela Merkel and Francois LePen are calling for a mandatory distribution quotas to settle the refugees throughout the EU. Some EU nations do not currently accept refugees.

though Trump has signed this piece of paper saying he will and won’t do certain things next year, he has not signed any piece of paper requiring him to disavow the unorthodox nationalist, protectionist, tax increase-supporting agenda with which he’s carved his sizable lane. The Republican Party, however, has now committed itself to supporting this agenda, which goes against decades of its own dogma, if Trump is able to pull off the nomination. Most of today’s news has been framed as Trump signs pledge to support eventual nominee. Another way to look at it is Establishment Republican candidates pledge to support Donald Trump. Trump has not pledged to incorporate into his candidacy any of the cheerier tones or traditional Republican policies that the GOP establishment would like to see from him. The Republican Party, though, has agreed to incorporate Trump.

International agreement reached on polar bear protection

The first ever circumpolar action plan to protect polar bears was released yesterday during the Polar Bear Range States meeting in Ilulissat, Greenland. The five polar bear range states - Canada, Kingdom of Denmark (Greenland), Norway, Russia, and the United States - have committed to a 10-year plan that aims to secure the long-term survival of polar bears in the wild.

The plan identifies seven key threats to the health and diversity of polar subpopulations across the Arctic, and includes climate change as the number one threat to the species’ survival.

My surprise, etc.

Hungary doesn’t want Muslims: Orban

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban says his country does not want to take in large numbers of Muslims.

His comments came during a visit to Brussels on Thursday aimed at defending Budapest’s tough response to a surge in refugees and migrants.

“I think we have a right to decide that we do not want a large number of Muslim people in our country,” Orban told journalists.

In response, it has built a 175km fence on its border with non-EU member Serbia, and is refusing to let people leave the country without being registered.

I kind of wish that Jeb would just let loose and call Trump an asshole. Maybe he can’t muster it, but it can’t be worse for him than how it’s going now. We know that GW could be an asshole. It would be fun to see Jeb get pushed over his limit.

I think under their bluster they know the truth, that they are actually perpetrators, or they wouldn’t make such a loud and desperate show of being victims.

I think the grifters who orchestrate these circuses know full well they’re not victims in any sense of the word, but the “regular” believers? I think they’re probably sincere in their belief that they’re victims because they want to believe it, they have a psychological/emotional need to believe it. It adds meaning, nobility of purpose to their dearly held beliefs in a world where those beliefs have lost primacy and/or become largely irrelevant in the daily lives of many. It makes them special.

We humans are fantastic, accomplished liars, especially when the ones we’re trying to trick are ourselves—nobody does it better. The grifters are just tapping in to the neediness and feeding the confirmation biases. I hate them for that because I’ve personally experienced the damage it can cause, which is why I largely stay away from discussions of this stuff. It’s a trigger for me.

The only perversion in this whole grotesque affair is those who claim her religious liberties, as protected by the constitution, are being violated. As a private citizen, she has every right to her belief. But as an elected official, a representative of government, the constitution and her oath of office require that she uphold the law. Not attempt to pervert the law.
