Damn, this a fucking good cover, Charles; BTW, I LOL’ed at the bassist’s Wu-Tang shirt.

Now, depression sets in, because I grew up on this song and others on MTV and the local Top 40 stations…the original is over 30 years old now.

One of my top five favorite pop songs, so I’m fairly picky about a cover.

This one is great. Keeps the same laid back tone and the melody trade off is lovely.

A stand out song from a stand out year (1985) in pop music.

I watched O’Reilly on Colbert and thought it was pretty tame, but I missed a couple minutes of it. He didn’t appear drunk. He talked out of his ass, as usual, though.

Rage Furby is up to his usual tricks. He’s going after Omar Mateen’s brother-in-law now. The brother-in-law incidentally doesn’t like Donald Trump, which apparently is enough for Rage Furby to want him deported.

Rage Furby is doing exactly what Trump wants his supporters to do—-attack others based on guilt by association. We should remember that Trump wants to detain the family members of terrorists whether they’ve committed any crime or not. The evil is spreading, and since Trump said he’s going to leave it up to the people to figure out what he meant when he said, “There’s something going on with the president,” Rage Furby is taking it to the next level. If a member of his family committed a heinous crime, he’d be outraged if anyone tried to blame him for the family member’s decision, but he considers attacks on Mateen’s brother necessary and justified.

This has always been Chuck’s MO: doxxing a victim, especially if the victim is dead, and every member of his or her family, to find anything Chuck can use to discredit them. If the victims of a murder are black or Muslim, he will blame the victims for their own deaths. If the shooter is black or Muslim, he will implicate friends and family members. Only white men get a pass in the Rage Furby world.

Mr. Trump was born on Flag Day the year after WW2 was over (1946).

The flag is flying at half-mast today for the mass murder at the LGBT club in Orlando.

There ought to be a law against fascist talking yams from being born on Flag Day.

Better yet, we can borrow President Obama’s time machine and ship Mr. Trump back to Germany around the middle of WW2 in Europe. My guess with his mouth he wouldn’t last five minutes before the Gestapo hauled him off.

Actually, I just want to see him lose in a historic landslide that would have made Alf Landon blush.

Minor thunderstorms now; the worst of the weather is over here. (I got knocked off by a power failure.)

Good morning Lizards.

Just outside of Paris today. Headed to Versailles today, and then into Paris again afterwards. Yesterday was the Museum of Natural Science.

Main media story here today is the murder of two policemen in Paris - apparently as a revenge killing for the arrests following the terrorist attacks. Pretty much the only subject covered for the last half hour.

Believe me, the world wouldn’t be the same without you. You just don’t know how wonderful a person you are. Your sister is right. Sometimes you have to tune even your loved ones out when they start talking sh*t. After my dad died, two of my brothers went nuts because they were so sure I and another sibling was keeping their inheritance from them. After they kept showing their behinds and raising a ruckus, I cut them out of my life. It was about three years before I was face-to-face with them and we were able to have a decent, civil conversation again. Take care of yourself. I’m going to try to go to sleep now. I am plagued by insomnia most nights. Tonight I’m going to take a valium and get some rest. I have a very busy day tomorrow because I have a little business I need to attend to.

It’s not like they need to be physically present to find out what he says. I’m starting to sense a note of exasperation in a lot of press outlets that I’ve never seen with a candidate before.

There’s no reason to spend any money trying to flip Georgia except maybe as a feint to make Trump waste even more money there. Trump is already vowing to fight for NY and CA where he doesn’t stand a chance and is looks like he’s going to be cash poor in the general. Clinton should play it smart and use the targeted data analysis that carried Obama to the White House twice. That means targeting easily winnable swing states like Virginia, North Carolina, Florida, Ohio, etc. Trump as to win virtually all of those.

Given his current behavior and the somewhat amazing turnaround of the press - if Trump remains the nominee he could win fewer states than Goldwater.

“Before the Orlando shooting, Beltway analysts speculated about how a terrorist attack might affect the presidential election. Now we know at least part of the answer: Mr. Trump would reveal himself more clearly than ever as a man unfit to lead.”

This attack was a Rorschach test for America: Trump looked at it and saw only Islamic Terror and confirmation of his anti-Muslim immigration stance.

But step back and you see a socially marginalized, mentally unstable American-born citizen with a violent personality, a large chip on his shoulder and access to massive firepower.

In other words, a template that fits a lot of mass murderers.

Now it is coming out that he frequented the club he attacked and used a gay dating site. There is obviously a lot more to this story than can be conveyed through tweets, sound bytes or headlines…

For whatever reason, I found this article about the blossoming Chinese wine market interesting. A few random quotes:

Chinese wines have received mixed reviews since they entered the international stage.

In some, critics have detected hints of “dirty sweat socks and cleaning fluid and a foul chemical taste” or even “a smell of baked dead mouse”. Others have deemed some Chinese wines “entirely respectable” and “competently made”, if lacking distinctiveness.

But vintners urgently need to tackle prejudice against made-in-China vintages. “Our people do not believe in our products,” she admits. “Even our toilets we buy from Japan. We buy milk powder for our babies from Hong Kong or France … I buy my toothpaste from Australia.”

Well, yeah, because he wasn’t conservative enough. And Menendez in NJ is a Democrat. Kevin McCarthy is a Republican who Chuck says had an affair with Renee Ellmers, another Republican.

Ted Cruz, on the other hand, was Chuck’s idol until Trump supplanted him. Neither of them can do anything wrong in Chuck’s mind.

For whatever reason, I found this article about the blossoming Chinese wine market interesting. A few random quotes:

I’ve found the red wines here drinkable, if not especially wonderful. The cheaper bottles can indeed taste like industrial waste, but that’s true of China’s home brew, baijiu. The cheaper varieties could probably be used as paint stripper and engine parts cleaners.

The quote about Chinese not trusting Chinese products is very true, though. There have been food scandals involving milk, baby formula, sausage, cooking oil and milk candy, and that’s just in the eight years I’ve lived in China. Foreign cosmetics probably outsell domestic brands for the same reason. The Chinese equivalent of the FDA does not do its job.

I happen to agree…but sometimes I am hesitant to think the right outcome will really happen. Something about many of our fellow American’s scare me. They are nuts. They tend to buy into stupid fears and do the wrong thing based on those fears.

I often mention I watch the first half hour of Morning Joke (20 minutes without commercials) to see what the Republican talking points for the day will be.

Today I ended up watching almost 2 hours because I was stunned that Joke was unloading on Trump and the entire Republican party for Trump’s over-the-top rhetoric on the Orlando shooter, his connections and how Obama seems to be allowing this to happen.

They mockingly asked if Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell would announce today they are pulling their endorsement of Trump? They joked about Kabul (Afghanistan) being in Queens NY.

They talked about the AR-15 and how they are not needed and how Reagan hated them and was for gun control and he was and still is the Republican Super Hero President so why do they like the man and not the thinking?

They joked about his taking on the media by threatening to ban the Washington Post from covering his campaign and how stupid that all is and what it says.

Amazing. I doubt I watch that much again, but today there seemed to be a reason to catch it.

Damn. Maybe there will really be a split in the Grand Ol’ Party.

Menendez isn’t only a Democrat, like Marco Rubio both his parents are Cuban, hence ‘brown people’ in the eyes of Upchuck. Rage Furby does enjoy getting his racism on.

I can deal with the notion of competing on wages, that is our incentive to work smarter. But competing on matters like worker safety and environmental standards is not only shooting ourselves in the foot, it gives other countries no incentive to improve themselves in that respect.

Apple says they ensure that Foxconn plants meet all suitable worker safety and environmental protection standards, but the truth of the matter is they can’t guarantee the Chinese staff will follow those regs once Apple isn’t looking. In addition, the raw materials, like indium, needed to make touchscreens come from Chinese mines where there are little to no efforts to protect the local environment.

That is going to be changing. China is realizing there was a reason for all those standards in America. Their issues with pollution and factories blowing clear off the face of the planet is going to force it. People are not going to stand for it. Other countries will follow too. People want to live decently so they loved the jobs when they got them, even at low rates. Then they get some economy going and they want more and a better life. It’s natural.

I think there will be a way to do business equilibrium that goes across the world where manufacturing, etc. all become similar and it will be just as costly to manufacture there as it is here.

I have always thought economies strengthening and global trade and commercialism would be an end to wars and to some degree outrageous governments.

Mourning in America. I refuse to change my avi to fit the latest mass shooting or terror attack. What’s the point? It’s not changing any of the facts on the ground.

You know - like how but for the easy and widespread availability of firearms whose only purpose is to slaughter as many people in as short a time period some mass shootings would not occur.

Or that the NRA has bought politicians so that they do the NRA’s bidding to prevent any and all attempts at reasonable gun restrictions/regulations, including reauthorizing the assault weapons ban.

Or that the NRA’s absolutist position on firearms and the 2A is antithetical to the history of jurisprudence on the 2A and the NRA has sold a fantasy and suicide pact all in one fell swoop.

This is the NRA. They fetishize the very gun that has been used is so many high profile mass shootings. And the right wing/GOP buys into that crap, saying that the real worry is Islamic terrorism here - even as they refuse to take any steps to close loopholes that might allow someone to buy the very weapons that are used.

This is what’s needed. Action to push back against the NRA’s insanity. To push back against the GOP. To stop the madness (and this is truly madness - not some Susan Powter crap weight loss spiel).

Heck, the NRA is so fearful of attempts to even study firearms, fatalities, and gun laws, that they block every attempt to do so. They’re fearful of what scientists will find, which is backed up by empirical data from other countries - namely that the free availability of firearms makes it a whole lot more dangerous to live in the US than other similarly situated countries (like Europe, Japan).

You’re much more likely to shoot yourself or a loved one accidentally here than elsewhere.

You’re much more likely to shoot and kill a loved one in a domestic disturbance here than elsewhere.

That’s who dies more often than any other group - people killing people they know. Family. Friends. Colleagues.

And the NRA blocks attempts to figure out ways to include mental health screening to obtain firearms as well.

That’s the insanity we face.

Last night’s murders in West Virginia:
Morgan County sheriff says suspect was “Sovereign Citizen”

Morgan County Sheriff Vince Shambaugh identified [Erick] Shute to MetroNews as a “sovereign citizen” and said he had filed a number of complaints against the victims including property disputes. The victims were shot dead while clearing wood and debris from the roadway adjacent to Shute’s property. Shambaugh said Shute ambushed the men with a rifle from a wooded area nearby.

One victim was able to flee the scene and was not injured.

Shambaugh said the property is a weekend home for Shute who also owns property in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. He posted to social media the shooting was in self defense. Shambaugh says he believes Shute was building a compound on the property near Great Cacapon.

The Rude Pundit, yesterday:

The Terms of Our Surrender to Our Domestic Terrorists, the NRA

Under the terms of our surrender, we agree to endure regular gun massacres without changing any of the lax gun laws that make it possible for almost anyone to purchase a weapon that can allow a single person to kill dozens of others. We agree to not even talk about outlawing guns. We agree to adjust our frame of reference after every “worst mass shooting,” recalibrating from 20 to 32 to, now, 50. In this way, the next time we hear about an event where 4 or 5 or 10 people are gunned down, we can think, “Well, at least it’s not 50” and forget about it. We agree to keep electing lawmakers who continuously vote with the NRA, ensuring that only their support of the gun control will harm them. We agree to mourn and pray for the dead and not question when someone who is opposed to any gun laws says they are mourning and praying. We agree to pretend that suggesting that more guns is the answer isn’t complete and utter madness.

We agree to die quietly, lest we disturb the delicate sensibilities of the gun owners.

We have surrendered, yes, and we just blindly hope that it doesn’t get worse, yet it always does.

BlueGrl21  Jun 14, 2016 • 6:45:40am

I struggled with whether or not to post this here. It’s long. But…yeah.

As I’ve written here before I have several pet wingnuts that are dear friends. But, I called them all out yesterday, on the Facebook. This got shared a lot. And my friends are being VERY silent right now. Not breathing in my general direction too loudly.

I’m done with them unless they step up. I mean it. This is what I know to do that may make a slight difference…show my hurt and anger and disappointment in them.

And now, off the internet and into the public fray. We all have real work to do. I refuse to be discouraged ever again.

————

Newtown broke my heart. It broke all of our hearts, I hope. I thought, “Surely this will be the thing that brings us together to work on getting these assault weapons out of the hands of the mentally ill and the terrifyingly violent psychopaths.” No.

And I was disappointed in some of my gun owning friends, who I love, who scrambled with concern over their gun rights. But I also supported their right to own guns. I spoke the language of reconciliation in the hopes surely we could find a way forward.

Then, Michael Brown. Treyvon Martin. Tamir Rice. My heart breaks again. Some of my friends become very vocal about supporting the police. I pointed out that if you love and want to protect the police, the thing they have asked for, over and over and over, is to help them get guns off the street. Please.

No? That’s got nothing to do with this? Those officers we’re praising don’t know what they’re talking about?

I begin to lose faith in the ability of people to see past their knee-jerk reaction to any form of rational discussion. Because you see, those people are on the side of police officers until tougher gun laws are brought up.

Sweetie, you don’t understand guns. You don’t see the threat we’re under. We have to protect ourselves against a tyrannical government that wants to take our guns.

Guess what? The United States Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines have more firepower than you. You’re outgunned, even with an arsenal of guns and bullets. That’s why these shooters get taken down by COPS.

And, wait. I’m confused. Aren’t we on the side of our officers and military 100%?

Let’s leave that there.

Other shootings followed. Then, San Bernadino. An honest to God terrorist attack on this country. And what do these attacks have in common? The shooters were nothing alike, different ideology, different everything. So, what’s the pattern? Anyone?

They both used AR-15s to spray as many bullets as fast as possible. And a handgun or two. They had easy access and man, they took advantage of it.

So, a terrorist attack would wake everyone up, right? Well, no. The latest rallying cry was an old one…Muslims. That’s what Trump is tapping into gleefully right now. And people with no ability to rub two brain cells together are all over it.

We can’t talk about the firepower of an AR-15 or a Tec-9…that one was Columbine. The high schoolers loved how badass those Tec-9s looked on camera, left behind videos and journals on their beloved Tec-9s. And how much they hated human beings.

Shhh. Guns don’t kill people. We’re responsible gun owners. That’s other people. And I agreed. Explained I don’t hate guns used for legitimate purposes, like hunting. I let it go again.

Next one on the list?

These people are mentally ill! It’s not about guns! Guess what? Me too. Let’s do some cost analysis!

I can go, right now, to Impact guns and purchase a Bushmaster Patrolman AR15 M4 Carbine, .223/5.56 16” W/Detachable Carry Handle, Telescoping Stock, Black Finish 30 Round Mag for $723.49.

My medications for my bipolar disorder are ~$300 a month, and that’s high. I’ve got to do the doctors and the pharmacies and the fights with insurance companies but it’s ok. I need those medications and I am grateful they exist.

And hey! 2.5 months and we’re even. But wait! My meds are have to be bought anew every month. That gun is a lifetime investment!

So if it’s mental illness, what’s the better investment for society? An AR-15 or mental health support?

Oh, wait. $3,600 a year? Just for medications? Nah.

Now, God help us, Orlando. Pulse Nightclub. Add that to the list of names I don’t have to say anything else about. Because we all know. Every…single…one…of…us.

What’s the pattern? Hint: not Islamic terrorism. Newtown and Aurora broke that pattern. Nope, innocent people slaughtered by yet another AR-15.

Tired of reading “AR-15?” I’m tired of typing it. But, that’s why it’s called “a pattern.”

This time? 50 dead. I’ll round that assault rifle up to $2,000 for a nice one with plenty of ammo.

That’s $40 a life.

$40 a precious, precious life.

Choose. Right now. Choose what matters most. Help me fight for basic, basic controls on guns, background checks, gun show loopholes, controlling gun sales over the Internet. Help me require both STATE and FEDERAL background checks. Help the police be safer on our streets. Help me ban these assault weapons. Help me fight for mental health services for suffering people and tougher gun confiscation laws for those who have been diagnosed as mentally ill or are a threat to themselves or others. Or find a different friend.

Because let’s face it. Your gun rights matter more to you than I do these days.

It’s all bullshit. Every last excuse, every smoke screen, every critique, every vow to “do something,” every single word. Not one word of it is logical or legitimate or proveable. It is collective insanity wrapped up in platitudes. And it’s killing cops, kids, and your fellow Americans. And you do…not…care.

Be honest. Look at yourselves in the mirror and claim it proudly. At least have the guts to be honest about what you stand for. YOU LOVE YOUR UNFETTERED GUN RIGHTS MORE THAN YOU LOVE ME.

And to all of my LGBT friends here, I love you more than you will ever know. I hurt and cry with you. My heart is absolutely broken. But all of us, both you and your straight allies, are so strong from these battles now. Your spirit has never broken, the community pulls together, from Stonewall to The Castro in the 80s to fight the battle against HIV/AIDS to Matthew Shepherd’s murder to the constant homophobia spewed at you since you knew enough to understand it. You are so STRONG and you have my heart, every day. Every single day.

Still too soon?

Tough shit.

Other shootings followed. Then, San Bernadino. An honest to God terrorist attack on this country. And what do these attacks have in common? The shooters were nothing alike, different ideology, different everything. So, what’s the pattern? Anyone?

Other things they had in common beyond easy access to massive firepower: these people were socially marginalized, had violent natures and an enormous chip on their shoulders: against blacks, gays, liberated women or Planned Parenthood. Or just an incoherent rage that they took out on the most vulnerable and available target.

Was the Newtown shooting done with an AR-15 as well? IIRC there were several guns involved, but I thought that was the main one.

The media has been reporting AR-15. Is there a big difference between a Bushmaster Patrolman AR15 M4 Carbine, .223/5.56 16” and a Bushmaster XM15-E2S .223 caliber semiautomatic rifle?

No, just different names and models of the old AR-15 rifle. A “M4” model is usually equipped with a shorter barrel and collapsing buttstock.

To this layman, it’s a distinction without a difference.

If someone were running around murdering people by shaking up cans of Pepsi, but there were a few Coke and RC Cola incidences, I don’t think a distinction would be necessary.

Indian group celebrates birthday of ‘savior of humanity’ Trump

A Hindu fringe group celebrated the 70th birthday of Donald Trump in the Indian capital on Tuesday, calling the U.S. presidential contender the “savior of humanity” who could end the global threat posed by Islamist militants.

About 20 members of the far-right Hindu Sena, or Hindu Army, held the festivities as Americans grieved over the deaths of 49 people in the country’s worst-ever mass shooting, perpetrated by a gunman claiming allegiance to Islamic State.

“Trump has said Muslims should be banned from entering America. Everyone should support that,” said Hindu Sena leader Vishnu Gupta, whose group is known more for its publicity stunts than for having any meaningful support.

Florida Catholic bishop: ‘It is religion, including our own,’ that targets LGBT people

“… sadly it is religion, including our own, that targets, mostly verbally, and often breeds contempt for gays, lesbians and transgender people. Attacks today on LGBT men and women often plant the seed of contempt, then hatred, which can ultimately lead to violence.

“Those women and men who were mowed down Sunday were all made in the image and likeness of God. We teach that. We should believe that. We must stand for that.

“Even before I knew who perpetrated the mass murders at Pulse, I knew that somewhere in the story there would be a search for religion as motivation. While deranged people do senseless things, all of us observe and judge and act from some kind of religious background. Singling out people for victimization because of their religion, their sexual orientation, their nationality must be offensive to God’s ears. It has to stop, too.

Another great winery is Heron Hill.

U.S. can’t confirm reports Islamic State leader killed

The U.S.-led coalition fighting the Islamic State said Tuesday it could not confirm reports that Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi had been killed in a U.S. airstrike.

Army Col. Chris Garver, the top spokesman for the coalition in Iraq, told USA TODAY he was aware of the reports from the Islamic news agency AlhlulBayt and other sources. Garver said that, if true, al-Baghdadi’s death would be welcome news but would not signal the end of the fight against the terrorist group.

AlhlulBayt reported the militant leader was killed Sunday in an airstrike in the Raqqa, Syria, the Islamic State’s de facto capital.

But apparently she doesn’t care about what happens when you’re on the receiving end of said firearm discharge. The carnage that results from the easily obtained firearms - whether sidearms or long barreled semi-autos with extended magazines.

She cares only about her ability to procure said guns. That others might use them for evil is the price we pay for her religious belief in having the right to obtain pretty much any gun made.

It’s a long story, and it involves Coca Cola, lawsuits, and Bully Hill.

Interesting. The 1960s and ’70s would have been the time Mom’s friend was giving her those bottles of wine.

Did Taylor ever think of legally changing his name to something like Tayler or Tailor? I suppose Coke would have still taken him to court.

Omar Mateen’s current wife could be charged as an accomplice in Orlando massacre

NBC News reporter Ken Dilanian brings us word that law enforcement officials may soon charge Noor Salman, who is Omar Mateen’s second wife, as an accomplice to murder.

It seems that Salman has told the FBI that she drove Mateen to the club several times in the days leading up to his attack. She also says she knew of his plans and tried to talk him out of it, NBC News reports. Salman also admitted that she was with Mateen when he went to buy ammunition and a holster, according to NBC News’ Tom Winter.

Hey gun control geniuses: The Orlando terrorist did NOT use an AR-15. Idiots. cbsnews.com
11:00 AM - 14 Jun 2016

From the CBS link in Dana EatsGuns twitter:

According to a federal law enforcement official, the rifle Mateen used to murder and maim more than 100 people was a Sig Sauer MCX. Mateen legally purchased the weapon, similar to an AR-15, on June 4 in Port St. Lucie, Florida, near where he lived. (He legally purchased a Glock 17 handgun the following day, which he also carried during the attack.)

Sig Sauer bills the MCX as “an innovative weapon system built around a battle-proven core.” The company says it “stands as the first rifle to be silenced from the ground up. It also accepts a broad array of accessories, enabling you to build a complete weapon system for any scenario or environment.” It has a military-spec trigger and a magazine capacity of 30 rounds. According to the book Guns of Special Forces 2001-2015, the MCX is known in military circles as the “Black Mamba” and was developed at the request of the US Army’s special operations forces.

So similar to an AR-15 gives Ms. Guns her out? She’s a little snake.

Well, it seems Putin’s operatives have been very busy boys.

Russian government hackers penetrated the computer network of the Democratic National Committee and gained access to the entire database of opposition research on GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump, according to committee officials and security experts who responded to the breach.

The intruders so thoroughly compromised the DNC’s system they also were able to read all e-mail and chat traffic, said DNC officials and the security experts.

The intrusion into the DNC was one of several targeting American political organizations. The networks of presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump were also targeted by Russian spies, as were the computers of some GOP political action committees, U.S. officials said. But details on those cases were not available.

A Russian Embassy spokesman said he had no knowledge of such intrusions.

He held a press conference about Trump’s proposed Muslim ban (or maybe it was about Cruz’ plan to vigorously “patrol and secure” Muslim neighborhoods) to point out that

1) 900 NYPD officers are Muslim; and
2) several hundred of those Muslim cops are also Army Reserve; and
3) fuck you GOP for thinking these cops’ neighborhoods and mosques are any kind of threat to anyone.

Waiting for the shock and sadness to ease off a bit, and awaiting more facts about this shoot. I now have a split list of gun control proposals, split I like it or not. But I think it’s too soon, tears are not yet dry.

I’ll say this about a couple commonly mentioned ideas. One the no fly list, two the watch list, and three FBI/Interpol/?? investigated you ever. None of those things offer us due process protection from them. So my first suggestion is add due process to the lists before considering using them further. Also see what the ACLU has to say about those lists.

I still want universal registration. What a great start that would be. And it’s lack may well trigger far less wise laws to get passed as clumsy workarounds.

“(a) A person who is a national of the United States whether by birth or naturalization, shall lose his nationality by voluntarily performing any of the following acts with the intention of relinquishing United States nationality—

(2) taking an oath or making an affirmation or other formal declaration of allegiance to a foreign state or a political subdivision thereof, after having attained the age of eighteen years;”

It’s indeed too late. They’ll either have a disaster in Cleveland where they try to replace the nut who got the most votes in the GOP primaries, or it’ll be a disaster in November when the GOP loses control of the Senate, loses seats in the House, and maybe loses a bunch more at the local level.

Trump’s idiocy is exposing the GOP to sunlight, and disinfecting can only begin once the GOP recognizes that the problem is their own odious policies. Trump is the symptom, not merely the problem. The GOP ideology is the problem.

I’m sorry that I have to explain myself to people like you. Mostly, I’m sorry that we didn’t get a chance to have this conversation face to face, and that you didn’t have the integrity and intestinal fortitude to identify yourself, qualities the military emphasizes.”

She concluded by asking the author of the note, “I served, did you?”

There does seem to be some talk there are ways to Dump Trump™.

Much of it seems to center on rules about the first floor vote. I’m guessing because I don’t know RNC nomination rules at their convention, but it seems if he does not get the nomination on the first floor vote all bets are off.

Can the delegates turn on Trump and not vote for him on the first vote and throw the whole process into a new candidate vote later? I have a feeling that may be the case, but I have no idea how that would be done.

I agree it will not go down well if they try to dump him. I fear for Cleveland.

And then there are what my one friend has said for the last four months. There are too many powerful people behind the scenes of the Republican party. Big power. Big Money with a lot to lose with Trump. Will they move to eliminate him one way or another?

I am not a proponent of violence…but I will say nothing would surprise me. This is truly trying times for the RNC.

re: #91 ObserverArt

You’re far more optimistic than I am.

There will always be countries willing to sell their people into peonage for a small scrap of the loot. Look at Britain and the Brexit. That will be Britain’s fate if it leaves the European Union, and I’m sure the people pushing for it know that.

And it isn’t just governments that can be outrageous. Corporations can be also, and they’re just as willing to do anything for profit as governments are for power. Just look at the TPP and its ‘investor protection’ where an ‘independent arbitration board’ can decide a country’s laws have interfered with a corporation’s profits and make the taxpayers of that country liable to replace those profits.

Currently nations are local and economies are global. That puts nations at a disadvantage. The ‘global economy’ will try very hard to keep it that way.

Well, I may have solved one of my more immediate problems, lol. This morning I put up a long post on Facebook about how Hate is going to be our undoing. Lack of community, isolation, hatred and so on create disaffected people who in turn don’t respond well. I didn’t say a word about guns, just about how hate makes it impossible to make good decisions and that all of us are responsible for creating and maintaining a community based on solid ground. Stopping the madness means, well, stopping it. I mean what did your Mom say when you said “well, HE started it!!!”? That my heart keeps breaking every time I see people post hateful shit online, people I know and expect better from. The only person that’s responded, over 6 hours ago, is my son.
