Seriously. What could the upside possibly be in taking that job?
To no one’s surprise, UKIP teams up with the EDL… and flops:
Revolutions, it has been said, do not generally begin on Sundays. People have to be up for work the next morning.
Perhaps something similar applies to right-wing political rallies. It could explain why Sunday’s so-called Brexit betrayal march - a joint Ukip and Tommy Robinson demonstration, which claimed to speak for the 17.4 million people who voted leave in 2016 - attracted a crowd of little more than 2,000 people to Whitehall in central London.
Robinson - the English Defence League founder who was considered such a star turn he spoke twice at the event - called the gathering a “beautiful” sight.
But even he may have cringed at the lack of numbers because nearby, separated by a thick police presence, a 10,000-strong anti-Fascist rally dwarfed his own.
[…]
Alongside Union Jacks, flags for Generation Identity - a pan-European white nationalist group - Britain First and For Britain were everywhere. The British National Party tweeted from the event. Several signs and banners openly advocated violence.
It was always pretty clear what, exactly, UKIP and EDL were all about, but I guess it’s good that the masks are finally coming off.

The United States joined a controversial proposal by Saudi Arabia and Russia this weekend to weaken a reference to a key report on the severity of global warming, sharpening battle lines at the global climate summit in Poland aimed at gaining consensus over how to combat rising temperatures.

Chile declines to sign U.N. pact, says migration not a human right: report
Chile has become the latest country to pull out of a controversial United Nations migration pact, its interior ministry indicated, provoking fury among opposition parties who accused Sebastian Pinera’s government of “shameful and authoritarian” behavior.
Rodrigo Ubilla, Chile’s Interior Ministry subsecretary, told Chilean Sunday paper El Mercurio in an interview that the country’s representatives would not attend the event to adopt the pact early next week in the Moroccan city of Marrakesh.
“Our position is clear,” he said. “We have said that migration is not a human right. Countries have a right to determine the entry requirements for foreign citizens.”
…
The migration pact addresses issues such as how to protect people who migrate, integrate them into new countries or return them to their home countries.
It is non-binding but has met fierce resistance from governments including the United States, Austria, Hungary and Poland who frame it as encouraging migration.
How could any Fox celeb say no? They’d have to admit it was a trap.

What approach to learning Spanish have you found effective?
The best suggestion to start out is to find a way to hear and repeat the language. If you can do it frequently, find people willing to teach you. Because I really want to learn it, and spend about an hour a day in my car, I spent some money on the Pimsleur Spanish courses. It’s not cheap (~$500, but you can buy the levels individually), but it’s 150 half hour lessons. I would listen to a lesson the night before at home - when I can stop and think - and then listen to it again to and from work. When I do get a chance to talk Spanish with some friends, I’m able to convey sentences, including some tenses. Importantly, I learn proper pronunciation. I also text them in Spanish (I have to look up spelling).
After getting through the course once, I have switched to Duolingo at night; I am relistening to the courses on the way to work, and then the radio on the way home. There’s a whole lot of overlap, but I’m now learning spelling, including accents, and quite a bit more repetition. You would think in Texas that I would have a lot of people to talk to, but I actually know people who look like they are from Mexico but don’t speak Spanish, so I don’t just say it to anyone.

One of my colleagues has gotten addicted to this game. The other day, I gather she got involved in a conversation in-game and had to watch as her horse apparently wandered on to railroad tracks and got taken out by a locomotive.
Early on I rode up on some idiot who then immediately got kicked to death by his horse. Then I picked him up and was going to take his body into town just so he wouldn’t rot by the side of the road, when someone else rode by and became a “witness” to a crime I didn’t commit. So I had to ride them down and murder them before they could report me to the police for a murder I didn’t commit and I’ve never felt more karmically balanced.
Imagine being this much of a fucking idiot.
Professor: “Race is a social construct.”
Doctor: “Great, then we can give you an organ donation from a different race.”
Professor: “Hell no, that’s just something I say so I can get paid!”— Stefan Molyneux (@StefanMolyneux) December 9, 2018

He’s supposed to be educated, so no, I can’t.

Well, considering the “Professor” in this inane tweet is a strawman, you could get an “organ transplant” from any haystack, and just stuff it in. and he would still probably be smarter than Stefan Molyneux.

What I found effective was a month in Mexico. That was 40 years ago next month. It wore off. Too easy not to use it in New Mexico.
I actually spent 6 weeks in Mexico this summer but the only interaction was with locals who spoke English. :-(

A friend who is a Spanish translator is going to give some of us lessons but I will also look into the courses you have suggested. Thanks!
So I might drive by Mar-a-Lago in the near future. Should I post a picture that expresses how I feel about President* Donald?

Make it pedal-powered and I’ll open another store.

Beautiful end to despicable beginning. Thank you for sharing that story. Hearing of it is a blessing to all of us.

I was randomly scanning posts and sort of half paying attention to what I was reading. It took me about 15 seconds to realize you were talking about Red Dead Redemption and not an actual incident.
Unfortunately, this #AntiCorruptionDay is a reminder for Iranians that their government is full of corrupt hypocrites. Meet Grand Ayatollah Makaram Shirazi—The Sultan of Sugar. He made millions flooding the market with expensive imported sugar, putting Iranian people out of work. pic.twitter.com/30wGEcNLbv

Education and wisdom aren’t the same thing.
Although many ‘educated’ people will argue otherwise.

I’m getting that for my wife.

Education and morality are not the same thing either nor are education and compassion.

Yes, Donald is dyslexic. We have known this for a long time.

The opinions expressed in this article are the sole opinions of Michael Harriot. This is in no way meant to demean the puss-filled presidential wart fucking up America’s face. Anyone thinking of attributing these thoughts to someone else should note that this is typed in italics which, I’m pretty sure, makes it legally binding.

Telenovelas!!
They speak slowly, and loudly, and never use college-level words. Also, the physical acting is broad enough you’d probably understand it even with the sound off.
“No!! No es mi papa! No es possible.”
“Si. Lo siento, mija, pero el es tu papa.”
“NOOOOOO!!!”
