Someone in the last thread made a comment about how the perception of the Democrats as the party that focuses on minorities hurts their standing among whites.
That’s interesting, because the GOP has made it clear they don’t give a shit about minorities, except those few token individuals who shared their jacked up ideology. Thus, the Democratic party is forced to do big things to appeal to minorities lest they (minorities) feel completely maligned by the U.S. political system.
This is not happening at the expense of whites. Just because we aren’t front and center all the time in the progressive moment doesn’t mean we aren’t needed or valued.
The sad truth is this:
For whites, there are two parties to choose from.
For minorities, there is functionally only one.

I don’t know if the first person is from Texas, but we reached presidential election numbers here in 2018. And while Cruz is hated, and Trump was a driving force, those numbers would not have occurred had Beto not been the candidate he was.

That happened to my one older brother. Married for a good 20 plus years when his wife realized she was gay and not bi- but a lesbian. That was with 3 girls in the family already and all that happy home stuff he thought he was in.
Of course she is old enough to have come from the times when you never ever said anything about maybe being gay. So she played the game and must have decided with all the changes occurring after Reagan times regarding LGBT social advancements it was time to be what she was all along.
My brother was shocked, but he is almost unflappable about anything. So he did his regular shrug of his shoulders and moved on. Everyone is now happy and in new relationships. Girls are cool with it. Such is life.

Thanks for pointing that out. It is not all advertising that makes Fox News money. Though lots of advertisers are a big thing to have flowing because it has to do with ratings.
If ratings go away maybe some cable systems ask for a lower fee or decide what tier to put it on which could also affect both cable fees and advertising.
I guess the problem I have with all this is that I don’t equate Israel and Judaism. Most of the Jews I know and have known don’t align with the government of Israel’s policies, especially now.

When Obama was President, I watched as Obama and Sec. Clinton restating the longstanding policy of the United States regarding borders in an eventual peace agreement become characterized as a new and horrible assault on Israel.
It seems as if the worse the Israeli government acts, the less acceptable it has become to criticize it. This is not a workable state of affairs.

It’s added sugar, added fat, and how many processed goods are at the foundation starch stamped into different shapes. The problem is that “Follow the Benjamins,” and “loyalty to Israel” are specifically anti-Semitic tropes. She can criticize both Israeli policies and (some of) its US supporters without thoughtlessly picking up the usages that the worst of people have been using against Jews since forever.
And she’ll be criticized either way, but she won’t trigger those of us who follow the progress of various bigotries if she learns not to follow the usages of the wrong people.
(Some of the problem is that the current freshman class in Congress is mostly naive to the point of childishness in the foreign policy area. The ones I’ve heard all seem to think there are simple solutions to problems that have been around for decades if not centuries. FYI his right here is a good argument against carrying firearms at all if you don’t face a genuine, plausible threat. It also demonstrates why if you really feel that you must carry a gun in public that it’s generally a terrible idea to keep a round chambered in any semi auto that has a single action trigger mode, especially in a striker fired gun like the Glock. Basically the leather on this guy’s holster got so soft and pliable that it folded under and grabbed the trigger, causing an accidental discharge when he was trying to put on his seatbelt. He got lucky, only blew a hole in his pants and carseat and grazed his thigh.
Seriously, the vast majority of people have no business whatsoever carrying a gun out in public, and the few non law enforcement officers that do have no need to keep a round chambered in a semi auto. If that extra one in the pipe and the second it takes to rack the slide are the difference between life and death you were probably fucked anyway.

It’s added sugar, added fat, and how many processed goods are at the foundation starch stamped into different shapes. For some people, the added sodium is an added layer of unhealthiness because they’re not getting enough potassium elsewhere in their diet.

I used to have one of those big expandable scissor action round things (unsafe because a child can get caught in the Vs at the top-but if you never leave the kid alone in it, it’s fine.)
