The MSNBC reporter outside the counting center in Maricopa County is broadcasting without the camera lights turned on because every time they turn the lights on, the crowd rushes him and starts screaming.

The crowd is chanting ‘Fox News’ sucks.’ Heh.

Meanwhile, persuade me that if we end up with a 49-51 Senate, Lisa Murkowski doesn’t become the most powerful broker in it.

She’s up for reelection in 2022. She knows that if the Senate doesn’t go D in 2020, it’s very likely to do so in two years.

She’s bucked the GOP on several big votes including ACA repeal and Barrett.

The GOP tried to oust her in 2016… recall that she lost the primary and only won reelection as a write-in. She doesn’t need the party.

And: she’s a second-generation Senator, which means she grew up watching her father as part of the old clubby, friendly Senate where Joe Biden was formed. They speak the same language. I wouldn’t be suprised if they know each other pretty well.

Which is to say: Murkowski owes McConnell nothing. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if there are some quiet efforts on the part of Biden and Harris (who, again, has served with Murkowski for four years now) to see what it would take to get her to go independent, and to caucus with the Dems on at least some of the policy priorities?

Maybe I’m overestimating her… but she’s been a lot better for our side than Collins ever was or will be. And she can’t be at all happy watching Trump further melt down the “old” GOP she grew up in.

My understanding was that it was trending around 19-20% Trumpward, but would need to be going around 25% Trumpward for him to take AZ, so it is heavy, but not quite heavy enough last time I checked….

In other Maricopa County news, I wandered over to my mother’s house, where I learned the hospital had sent out a home health nurse after mom’s fall last week. The nurse found a rash on my mother’s lower abdomen and chewed my brother out for not doing whole-body skin checks for rashes, bumps, lesions, etc. My mother cheerfully (and I think gleefully, based on her reaction when my brother told me of my new task) told the nurse, “My daughter will do that.” Therefore, I get to look at my mom’s whole naked body once a week.

So you say there are some patriot thugs in front of the voting center? Idiots.

The US Constitution clearly has critical weaknesses as originally written.

Some of those have been addressed by Amendments over the years.

But right now the archaic nature of said Constitution is really coming to the fore. Said Constitution is being used to deny the concept that the governed get to decide who governs. This was always a weakness, addressed over time with abolishing slavery and then giving women universal suffrage.

Yet there still remains the archaic Electoral College, itself a compromise just like slavery in the Constitution.

And the Senate was archaic from the start (too much like Lords in the UK.) It took many years before Senators were elected.

The past few years I have become more resolute in my feelings that the Senate needs to be abolished (along with the electoral college.)

And Matthew Seely is the Rush Limbaugh of Tucker Carlsons.

A conservative, Trump-loving Grosse Pointe Shores councilman suggested Wednesday that four congresswomen nicknamed “the squad” “are the proof we have forgotten” about the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

Councilman Matt Seely, who previously mocked sexual assault victims on social media, posted a meme on Facebook with the words, “We said ‘Never Forget,’” atop an image of the Twin Towers burning. Below the image is a photo of the four congresswomen with the words, “They are the proof we have forgotten.”

I was talking about how greatly the proportions between the ratio of persons represented per Senator by the largest and smallest state’s Senator in 1790 census and our most recent one. It’s incredible really. The smallest state of today population wise I believe is Wyoming and it’s around the same population that the country had that first census. I just don’t know what you would replace the Senate with and how would you handle the confirmation of presidential appointees with that among other things that are solely Senate business at the moment. I don’t know how a federal unicameral legislature would work. I do support expanding the size of the House though.

The Senate is an especially difficult thing to reform, since altering the equal votes of the states in the Senate is the one thing the Constitution places beyond the reach of its own amendment procedures:

The Congress, whenever two thirds of both Houses shall deem it necessary, shall propose Amendments to this Constitution, or, on the Application of the Legislatures of two thirds of the several States, shall call a Convention for proposing Amendments, which, in either Case, shall be valid to all Intents and Purposes, as Part of this Constitution, when ratified by the Legislatures of three fourths of the several States, or by Conventions in three fourths thereof, as the one or the other Mode of Ratification may be proposed by the Congress; Provided that no Amendment which may be made prior to the Year One thousand eight hundred and eight shall in any Manner affect the first and fourth Clauses in the Ninth Section of the first Article; and that no State, without its Consent, shall be deprived of its equal Suffrage in the Senate.

To me this means that reform of the Senate must consist of stripping it of its powers and duties.

That’s chewing gum and bailing wire, at best. Better than nothing, but what’s to stop Republicans from carving up the Dakotas into teeny tiny pieces in retaliation next chance they get?

It’s much like rebalancing the courts (if possible) — something that has to be done to deal with an emergency, but not even close to fixing the underlying problem.

Upon reading the horrible news waking up the morning of Nov 4, 2016, complete dread filled my soul. Perhaps I thought I was overreacting. But Trump’s Presidency was every bit as bad as I thought it would be and probably worse.

Along the way I learned that Republicans are all-in on White Supremacy as long as it served the corporate master’s agenda of wealth and power as a zero sum game. This includes direct violence against US citizens, backing armed gangs to intimidate protestors, and child kidnapping among many many crimes.

But the past 24 hours are showing there is still hope. We can pull ourselves out of Hybrid Regime status shared with Turkey and Russia and redirect more towards democracy and egalitarianism. But it will be a long and exhausting fight. 2 years and another midterm election. Then comes the re-election of Biden/Harris in 2024. Be prepared to fight.

Holy shit at the 5x turnout difference. But that’s another reminder that Trump really did turn out millions of additional votes for himself, even after fucking up the covid19 response worse than any federal fuckup since the civil war.

That increased GOP turnout is what I wasn’t expecting in this election, and thankfully it seems to have fallen just short of giving Trump another win.

I don’t envy the GOP lawyers who are going to have to go into court knowing that their colleagues representing the same clients and interests are arguing the exact opposite position they are… judges typically don’t like it when they know you’re taking contrary positions in different court rooms

Stop counting votes here, keep counting votes there, and do a recount over there… that’s not a winning strategy

Yeah there’s no coherent strategy.

Add Nevada’s 6—it’s 270

Tito Ortiz wins city council seat in Huntington Beach, California

Former UFC light heavyweight champion and Hall of Famer Tito Ortiz has won a seat in the city council in Huntington Beach, California.

The 45-year old ran on a heavy conservative platform linking himself to President Donald Trump, with Ortiz often spreading erroneous conspiracy theories throughout his campaign.

The city council had three seats up for grabs with Ortiz topping all other candidates with 14.3 percent of the vote that equaled 34,901 votes. Democrats Dan Kalmick and Natalie Moser finished behind Ortiz in the field of 15.

This election was not good for the Democratic party. Or for the US for that matter.

Sure, Biden is almost certainly going to win an electoral vote. A victory.

But no coattails.

Dems are down 6 seats in the House.

This is bad.

Winning parties ought to at least hold if not increase their Congressional delegation.

Call me a wet blanket, a debbie-downer… still, I think there has been exposed a deep divide in the options going forward for the Democratic party.

There is little, probably no, way to harmonize a modernist, non-religious (or at least a-religious) modern cultural belief with conservative (fundamentalist, evangelical, etc.) Christianity.

And that is going to be very hard to figure out politically.

Because while only about a fourth of Americans self identify as that type of Christian, of that group a great percentage now vote. Religiously. Especially religiously.

The GOP and religious right have demonstrated that abortion is the issue by which to neuter Democrats.

Biden is going to have a very hard time with a majority Republican Senate and a tiny Dem majority in the House.

re: #144 Nyet

Why?

Honestly, because AP called it and they have a 99.8% accuracy rating on their calls.

The Associated Press has declared Democrat Joe Biden the winner in Arizona, flipping a longtime GOP state that President Donald Trump won in 2016.

The AP called the race at 2:50 a.m. EST Wednesday, after an analysis of ballots cast statewide concluded there were not enough outstanding to allow Trump to catch up.

With 80% of the expected vote counted, Biden was ahead by 5 percentage points, with a roughly 130,000-vote lead over Trump with about 2.6 million ballots counted. The remaining ballots left to be counted, including mail-in votes in Maricopa County, where Biden performed strongly, were not enough for Trump to catch up to the former vice president.

apnews.com

I admit, there’s a slim chance AP could have called it wrong, but I think their analysis of the situation in Arizona is correct.

The GOP and religious right have demonstrated that abortion is the issue by which to neuter Democrats.

They have shown that abortion is the magic word of the time, not necessarily the issue. Just like guns is a magic word, and socialism. If you asked Republican voters, they would say any of these magic words and say that’s why the support the GOP. But none of these are true. Democrats could mimic GOP positions on these issues exactly, and they would still vote Republican. These voters do not share reality, and thus changing the parameters of reality won’t change their actions.

Democrats will have a hard time going forward, but it’s not because of any issue. It’s because of systemic problems in the US electoral system and the religion of right wing media, which has total control over those who consume it.

Trump knew just how racist America really is and he exploited it. Con men know how to identify weaknesses in their victims and manipulate them. All Trump had to do is call Mexicans rapists and criminals, and millions of Americans were ready to vote for him.

Trump infected nobody, he just erased the distinction between sick and normal.

Yep.

Over the years, I’ve seen the question asked, “How did Hitler brainwash an entire nation?” He didn’t, truth be told. All Hitler really did was tell the German people what they already believed about themselves and their place in the world.

Hitler was a sounding board, albeit an exceptionally shouty and megalomaniacal one.

It’s a staple of American political discussion: “Democrats in Disarray.” The people who earn six and seven figure salaries to weigh in on American political thought will never abandon the idea that the majority of the country are either inbred rural nutters or poorly-educated blue collar slobs who are forever looking for a guy to rule them.

You would never know reading takes like that the Democrats have won the popular vote in 7/8 elections. Maybe those who insist the Democrats are out out of touch should talk to the party who has only done that once since 1992. And yes I know about the EC but Republicans are the ones who are actually out of touch with the majority of the country.

I once watched a Yale Open Course lecture by John Merriman where he said (paraphrasing): ‘angry, resentful men hid their guns in their basements and went down there to practice marching’ in the 1920s.

And if you compare the relative number of congressional votes cast for each party over past elections, that the GOP has been consistently over-represented.

All Hitler did was give voice to the anger and resentment that already existed in the German people. Told the people that every dark thought and impulse they had was not only right, but was inherently German and thus should be encouraged rather than restrained. All he had to do was give them an outlet and they thanked him for it.

Here’s the thing: Nate’s models only work with the data they’re given, which is generally from pollsters and officials who are not commissioned by 538. The time-honored programming principle of GIGO (Garbage In, Garbage Out) applies here. If Nate’s model is off, it’s because the data fed into it and thus the assumptions made were wrong to begin with.

That said, this is now the second election where the polls at the state-level were off, in some cases wildly so, and that brings into question whether traditional polls are valid anymore.

This is what I have been preaching since I woke up yesterday morning and saw that we were in a bona fide Charlie Foxtrot. There is no way we could have gotten here without something fishy with the polls - whether through outright manipulation, or simply that the techniques and methodology are no longer valid for the current era and need to be completely scrapped and rebuilt. Yeah, that’s gonna be towards the top of the list of reasons why this election was a total aberration: The standard model of most votes being cast in-person (early voting and Election Day) and mail-in ballot comprising a much smaller portion of the total vote, not to mention the record-breaking turnout of this election, just didn’t apply at all.

The polls in 2018 were very accurate though. My theory is Parscale’s plan to get white noncollege educated nonvoters activated through social media worked, and since they don’t vote, most pollsters screened them out of their likely voter models. It remains questionable whether they will turn out for anyone besides Trump.

Let me be expansive on this for a moment, because I’m actually a frustrated syndicated columnist who is in fact neither. If the senate winds up with 48 democrats/independents, my first stop while greeting the senatorial hoy-paloy as president would be to have a very private meeting with Murkowski and Collins. I would ask them to strongly consider becoming independents and caucusing with the Democrats. Crazy? Not really. Collins would do herself an enormous favor in Maine if she became an Independent. I suspect Murkowski wouldn’t hurt herself at all. Neither of them is in a state where they are gonna get tea-bagged in an election. And obviously if they’re caucasing with the dems, they don’t have to deal with a moderate Democrat taking them on 6 years from now. They don’t even have to vote in favor of Democratic legislation coming up from the House. All they need to do is to change the Senate majority so that the majority leader will be democratic, and so that Democrats can change the rules and dump the filibuster. The two senators would obviously have enormous power, which would have to be somewhat enticing for two senators who at the moment are going to go down in history as having contributed nothing to any legislation, because the senate refuses to bring anything forward for a vote. Do they really want to go through the hassle of senatorial life in order to sit on the sidelines and do nothing?

Murkowski was pro-ACA since that made sense for Alaska. Beyond that?

GOP is party uber alles. I think you’d be more likely to get people like Rubio or Cruz to abandon ship since they’re already known to be total rats.

Plus anyone in the Senate trying to do such a switch is pretty much shooting their remaining career down the disposal. See what I think happened is the Senate elections have mirrored the presidential one. That’s why we’re not getting the gains we hoped and why we lost some seats. Trump being on the ballot helped some of these Republicans in a high turnout election. Ultimately I think there’s still a chance we walk away with the Senate. If your election lasts more than four days, please consult a physician

We have 330 million people and an unprecedented number of mail in votes. This all was expected. Add historic turnout. It’s gonna be a nice Biden win in the end. Biden might well end with a higher percentage of the vote than Reagan did 40 years albeit with a smaller margin but much more diverse coalition.

A Cranky One  Nov 5, 2020 • 6:43:24am

Breaking:

290
lawhawk  Nov 5, 2020 • 6:44:56am

Stop the count? Trump loses.
Keep counting? Trump potentially loses even more.

Trump’s not merely calling for stopping the count. He’s openly claiming that he wants to invalidate ballots cast by mail because he thinks they didn’t vote for him (he’s right - they didn’t vote for him).

Trump is losing the popular vote by an even bigger margin than in 2016. He’s illegitimate. He lacks the popular mandate now, while VP Biden has both a popular mandate and the EC behind him.

Trump’s desperation is driven by one thing: knowing that indictments are coming as surely as winter is. Trump’s an unindicted coconspirator on felonies even outside Mueller. He’s individual 1 in Cohen felony case, which included conspiracy.

Mueller’s obstruction charges would be separate felony conduct.

Ukraine crimes are still other felony conduct.

The tax fraud and wire fraud are state charges as well as federal ones.

There’s a metric shit-ton of crimes and legal cases Trump faces, and he’s got a cash crunch too.

Pass the popcorn

Grab a hot toddy:

You don’t say

Paula White has delivered an impassioned prayer in a bid to secure Donald Trump’s presidential reelection as Joe Biden pulls ahead in the race to the White House.

White, who is Trump’s spiritual adviser, took aim at the “demonic confederacies that are attempting to steal the election from Trump,” during the energetic prayer that was streamed live at 7p.m. ET.

Clips of the event have been circulating widely across social media as the U.S. waits to hear decisive news from key states that are still counting the vote.

They are, but there is more to it than that. The utter, violent go-for-broke desperation of the Trumpsters looks like pretty good evidence of what I have been saying for years. The GOP hierarchy and many thousands of their stooges are massively involved in crime, including treason and crimes against humanity. FBI director.
DHS
ICE
CBP

There’s a bunch of law enforcement facing orgs that need strong competent leadership to clean up the mess Trump’s made of things. DOJ is a priority to be sure, since they take the lead on going after Trump’s criminal malfeasance, but there’s other slots that are priorities.

Why is FBI director at the top of the list?

Because we need someone to clean up the FBI and they do direct investigations on civil rights matters as well. That’s in Jones’ wheelhouse. It’s not to say that he can’t or shouldn’t be considered for the others, but if you’re suggesting Jones for DOJ as AG, he should be considered for FBI as well.

If you’re not having him within the DOJ, then you’re looking at DHS and the included agencies there.

No idea. But I think Biden coming off statesman like will help. And the fact that Fox rather than a network with a liberal reputation called AZ for Biden first might help too. It’s not gonna be easy but it’s becoming apparent that Trump is losing and losing by a good sized amount. But once the AP, CNN, *FOX* etc. broadcast Biden at 270 votes and “winner” we’ll see what sort of fuse is lit. The next Trump presser after that might well be a barnburner. Plus what Limbaugh and the usual conservative talking heads say.

If our hopes of neutralizing McConnell’s iron fist is Collins and Murkowski, then it’s simply not happening. We can’t keep doing this Lucy and the Football shit with those two.

Well then we work like hell for Ossoff and Warnock in Georgia. Two days ago a lot of people wrote off hte Senate as lost. It’s not lost. This just needs a little time to play out but I do think by January, Biden will have more political capital than Trump did his first January.

Long Island officials announced 10 new COVID cases that are connected to a polling location in Southhampton.

Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone made the announcement on Wednesday.

He says that six of those positive cases were workers at the polling site.

According to Bellone, another 48 people associated with the location are self-isolating.

Furthermore, I’d run TV ads against Mitch every day. If he’s going to block everybody, then we need to actively campaign against him whether it’s election season or not.

Put Lincoln Project on it. Rick Wilson hates Mitch.

Just paged this:

Humiliated & Furious Trump Will Be Gunning for Murdoch in 2021

Trump will launch his own TV channel to “Destroy Traitor Fox.” Will enough mouth-breathing yokels tune in? Or will it split the GOP?

This can go a number of ways:

  1. Trump’s new network is a raging success, as he launches nonstop attacks against “FAKE FOX!!!” and his followers desert to Trump TV

  2. Trump’s new network is popular, but not dominant, which sparks a fight, and the right-wing audience descends into a bitter war with itself for a generation

  3. Trump gets a lot of Deplorables, but Fox News launches counterattacks, coordinating with Sinclair to crush this rival

  4. Trump TV is an utter failure like every single other business venture Trump has ever tried and vanishes by 2022

In case you’re bored and want some more races to worry about.

In modern elections, I feel you can’t get a total idea on the election in the first day. This is gonna turn out to be a decent election day. Not great. I think what hurt us in the Senate races was that the Senate vote was heavily tied to the presidential election vote. Now that could be a problem going forward but will Trump voters continue to vote for the Senate without Trump on the ballot in the same numbers? I don’t think so honestly. Now some of those voters are Republicans to stay but I think you’re going to see internal strife happen in the GOP especially if the leadership more or less pushes Trump aside as it’s clear that Trump isn’t gonna win.

Khal Wimpo (not drinking damn fish tank cleaner)  Nov 5, 2020 • 7:53:43am

More:

“If Trump owned a media company, which advisors say he discussed when he believed he would lose the 2016 election, it might look something like “Team Trump Online,” the current production. And if he or his family start one after he leaves the White House, this could be the pilot.

“This is the warm-up act,” said Frank Sesno, a former CNN anchor and the director of the School of Media and Public Affairs at George Washington University. “There’s nothing he would like more than to throw his name on a channel, a digital brand.”

Question: Do you think this slow burn on the results is good or bad in terms of how it will affect post-election protests and such?

this is how the system should work
its in fact how it works every single time
media ‘calling’ the election means nothing - it never did
this exercise is demonstrating - once again - that the overall system is working exactly like it’s supposed to

there is no election night horse race
there is no handicapping

there are so many canvassed and valid votes (ok this part can be a little fuzzy)
they get counted
the order they get counted in is a meaningless fiction
the order the states announce results is a meaningless fiction

anything intermediate is arbitrary

the final result is all that matters

Appoint former Obama cabinet secretaries who have previously won Senate confirmation. Then, when the Republicans raise a stink, name them “acting” secretaries. Then, replace them with other “acting” secretaries, as time goes on.

Then, use the new Trumpian Civil Service rules to purge Trump loyalists burrowed into departments.

When the Senate tries to subpoena members of your administration, blow them off. Dare them to impeach you, and, when they try to impeach you, insist upon strict party discipline so they can’t reach the 67 votes necessary to convict and/or remove you.

Embrace the Trumpian/Barr conception of the Imperial Executive.

Gotta say, the new Trumpian rules for the civil service would bring about the end of the civil service as we know it. No matter who uses them, no matter how good your intentions. They must not stand.

That’s a red herring. The more people you have the more people can be working on the count.

What makes your elections slow is the complexity, not the number of voters.

We do need national standards on voting I agree. I do think that so many mail in ballots this time has complicated things.

OK. This is saying that there are a lot more ballots counted but not reported yet, as opposed to the lower number which are not counted yet. So, if this is correct, very good news for Biden. Too many numbers flying around.

Without access to power, the right wing discards you as you are no longer a useful tool anymore. Trump is done. He’s finished.

Trump TV would be a joke with no damage done to Fox News at all. Fox News has a circle jerk going on with the levers of power within the American right wing and Loser Trump with no Presidential power is now in the garbage can with no way to get out.

Perhaps. I *was* astounded at how quickly Bush went from being the cardboard cutout that little right-wing evangelical children were made to kneel and pray to … to the most heinous warmongering traitor EVAR!!1! in the minds of Fox viewers.

But the connection to Trump is bone-deep in these people. Having to choose between Fox and Trump would cause a rupture in their brains that would send most of them to flee to full-time work in meth labs and gibbering in the street.

I mean, more than they already are, of course…

Ana Navarro pointed out that htis is actually wrong. Yeah Biden struggled in Miami-Dade with the Cubans but he actually did well with the other groups in Florida and credited Latino voters with helping Hickenlopper win as big as he did. The Hispanic vote is complicated and from what I’m seeing Biden has won them but we need to realize going forward that it’s not a monolithic bloc. I think Biden himself realizes that more than his detractors.

There are a variety of non-nefarious explanations for these phenomena. I know this administration is evil, and there are some who are probably smart enough to perpetrate ballot fraud, but large-scale voter fraud - across multiple states, no less - is extremely difficult to pull off. I have my doubts that anyone in the administration is THAT competent.

Not for nothing, if they were citizens they really weren’t in any danger of being rounded up and deported(no mater what some of the more imaginative folks think) and if they were not citizens, then they couldn’t vote anyway.

Of course there were probably about a 1000 other reasons that Hillary would have been better than Trump.

Parents were in the US without documentation. Kids born here shrugged, because they were OK. Uncles/cousins here without papers.

Some of them got rounded up in 2019.

Ballotpedia to the rescue.

TL;DR: There is no automatic recount, it can only be requested if the margin is less than 0.5%, and the state pays for all recounts.

Thanks.
Since “any candidate” can request one, I would guess that the loser of the GA ballot will do so, even if it’s unlikely to make a difference in the final results. Maybe.

Pinal, Yavapai, Yuma counties (Trump) are still counting along with Maricopa. But, their combined population is roughly 1/5 of Maricopa
The math is incredibly hard for Trump to overcome

Likewise, most of the outstanding vote in PA is from Philly and the metro area and even the vote coming in from the Republican areas is more Democratic since it’s all mail in and Pennsylvania Dems voted by mail much more than Republicans.

His ministry announced on Tuesday that the 75-year-old Baxter was hospitalized last week and quickly succumbed to the disease.

The brief note doesn’t mention how he may have caught the virus, but we all know he never took it seriously. That’s because, in late March, he appeared on Jim Bakker’s show and attempted to explain why God gave us COVID: Fornication among unmarried couples.

If our hopes of neutralizing McConnell’s iron fist is Collins and Murkowski, then it’s simply not happening. We can’t keep doing this Lucy and the Football shit with those two.

keep in mind, my point was not to naively pretend that murkowski and collins are actually “moderate” Republicans, because clearly they aren’t. But an arrangement could be made where by caucasing with the Democrats, they could be allowed complete freedom to vote how they wish on legislation, as long as they vote to allow bills from the House to actually come on to the senate calendar. If a bill comes up and it doesn’t make it because there are only 48 votes for it, then that’s great. That’s democracy. But I’m betting that there will be plenty of legislation that comes up in which Republicans, freed from the procedural filibuster because a senate with a democratic majority leader killed it, will vote for some stuff simply because 2022 is not a good year for Republicans running for senate seats, and political survival will come into the calculus.

Levin assumes that Republicans are gonna roll in that Trump stank one more time.

Hell, even the enablers in Congress are staying far, far away.

Any smart Republican would just let him bleed out and move on.

So what are they (Team Trump) claiming here?
Any substantive allegations as to ballot “mishandling” or just throwing-shit-at-the-wall ?

I’m guessing the latter: for all the blustering about how “tough” they were going to be in “fighting” against every “abuse” of the voting system, the (R) team don’t seem to have advanced any convincing arguments (so far).

Another Pulpit Pimp bites the dust!

Pastor Who Blamed COVID on People Who “Committed Fornication” Dies of COVID

friendlyatheist.patheos.com

End Times preacher Irvin Baxter has died of COVID.

Weird.

It’s as though the pulpit pimps aren’t immune to the covid despite all their claims the contrary. He didn’t just get covid and die, he got hospitalized last week and died within a week.

Seems like there’s a message there if you want to believe in some such thing.

Oh … and wear a fucking mask.

Yeah, and they determined that they way they would choose electors was my having voters vote for the electors. If they decide, after the election, to appoint different electors… I highly doubt the courts will let that stand.

Not to mention the fact that (IIRC), most states have:
1) statutes requiring the specific “allegiance” of generally-elected Electors;
2) specify particular and unusual circumstances in which a Legislative “solution” would apply (and none of them, AFAICT, relevant in any current situation), and
3) Many have penalties for “faithless electors”, recently ruled applicable by SCOTUS.

Legislative appointment of Presidential Electors hasn’t been a thing in this country since the early 19th Century (SC, typically, was the last, I think) - and that’s one old-timey tradition I don’t think is coming back,
MAGA-head bloggers’ hysterics notwithstanding.

There’s no evidence anywhere that voter fraud has occurred, let alone mail fraud that would deliver votes for Trump or invalidate huge numbers of votes for either/both in such a way that delivers Trump a win in any of the states remaining to be called.

That’s the problem with all of Trump’s suits at the moment. There’s no substantive facts supporting his claims. None. There’s nothing to them. They’re vaporware, and the courts know it, the pundits know it, and even Fox knows it.

This is just a more drawn out version of Downfall.

There was talk in 2000 with Florida that if the vote wasn’t certified in time, the legislature was going to simply pick the electors. But that was a weird situation where there was a chance Florida wasn’t going to send any electors. This would be a completely different scenario.

Seems like a lesson learned from 2000 is that no one is breaking into the counting rooms like the Brooks Bros d-bags.

There’s an editorial in the WaPo today written by one of the Brooks Bros d-bags saying that what’s happening now is “way out of line”. I didn’t read it but I hope he’s getting flayed by people telling him that the BB Riot was out of line and that he’ll forever be a d-bag.
