Another Spectacular New Track From Marcus King: “Mood Swings” (Lyric Video)

Music • Views: 12,374

I’ve listened to this three times already, trying to absorb all the nuances of the stunning rhythm guitar parts Marcus throws into the mix. Excellent work on every level.

Let’s take another one I swear I’m having fun, but I’m miserable
‘Cause time don’t heal no pain, I still feel just the same
‘Cause time is standing still
Draw a smile on every day I’ve run out of paint
Hold my brush, I’m feeling faint
Feel Iike I can really be myself around you
Mood swings like a pendulum, I can’t break loose
Feel like I can really be myself around you
Someday I might find peace I long left behind I hope you’re still here when I do I know it ain’t fair, the things I put you through
My condition is no excuse
I know it won’t make much sense, baby in my defense, you’re the only one I feel safe around Let me explain myself, it’s the first time I’ve felt like I’m not running myself into the ground
Feel Iike I can really be myself around you
Mood swings like a pendulum, I can’t break loose
Feel like I can really be myself around you
I’ve always sacrificed anything that’s brought me happiness, for emptiness But in exchange for my pain I maintain, inspiration
Heartache is my medication
Feel Iike I can really be myself around you
Mood swings like a pendulum, I can’t break loose
Feel like I can really be myself around you

I see there was a (probably) $7 million ad for the “He Gets Us” ad campaign trying to rebrand Jesus.

This is just a reminder that the same people behind “He Gets Us” are also a major funder of the “Alliance Defending Freedom,” a legal group trying to smash rights for anyone who isn’t basically white, male, heterosexual and Protestant. Don’t be fooled.

I got called a “hater” for pointing out that the $7 million could have been better spent and NOT on a campaign to rebrand Jesus.

Like, think how many people you could clothe and feed with $7 million.

American Values 2024 Pac
FactCheck

Political leanings: Pro-Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

2022 total spending: N/A

American Values 2024, formerly the People’s Pharma Movement, is a hybrid political action committee supporting independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s presidential campaign.

As a hybrid PAC, the group can function both as a super PAC, raising unlimited funds for independent expenditures, and as a traditional political action committee, giving money to candidates directly. It must have separate bank accounts for each purpose.

The group was co-founded in 2022 by Mark Gorton, CEO of Tower Research Capital and creator of file-sharing platform LimeWire, and Tony Lyons, head of independent book publishing company SkyHorse Publishing. Gorton and Lyons serve as co-chairs of the PAC.

Mormon church out of Salt Lake City.

OK. The “He Gets Us” campaign is funded by the “Servant Foundation.” Here’s their non-profit stats as of 2022. projects.propublica.org

The important numbers are that it received $942 million in 2022, it spent $537 million that year, it has $1.37 billion in assets and $5.06 million in liabilities.

It sounds like a lot of money.

The Mormon church is sitting on way more money than that. It’s alleged that the Mormon church is sitting on a $100 billion “hedge fund.”

theguardian.com

Now this does NOT include all the properties it owns around the world, such as an apartment complex at 435 E Main St., which is valued at $84 million dollars. This is just ONE of the 48 properties owned in Maricopa County by Property Reserve Arizona LLC, a fully owned and operated arm of the Mormon Church. It also does not include 65 properties owned in Maricopa County by the Presiding Bishopric of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

So yeah, while the “He Gets Us” people are annoying, the true obnoxiousness is this enormous enterprise that dominates the Intermountain West. No church NO CHURCH should have this much money. Jesus weeps.

The one really bright spot on the Cowboys this year was their kicker. He had that one game where he missed a couple, but for the most part 50+ wasn’t anything special. There are a number of kickers now that kicking from behind the 50 yard line wouldn’t be out of the question.

Old man’s voice: Back in my day, we only had logarithm tables, and we liked it. These young-uns and their damned calculators.

I’m studying some analytical geometry through the book Solid Analytic Geometry. Written back in 1949. It’s old enough that it predates the use of the words eigenvalue and eigenvector, and the bracket notation for matrices, using large parentheses instead. One of the problems states:

Compute θ in milliradians (thousands of radians) in the following cases by use of the exact formula and five-place tables of logarithms.

Sorry, but that is one more skill I’m actually glad I don’t have.

I’ve been buying all my stuff there for a couple of years now. I used to get refurbished stuff on eBay but you don’t get the Apple perks. FWIW.

re: #213 Yeah Sure WhatEVs

Depends upon your distance.

I’m 170km away, on a hillside, on the second floor, so I feel these distant quakes fairly easily.

The crust is very thin where these quakes are happening. They are just west of the Imperial fault by a few miles. So they are not far from the northward extension of what will become the East Pacific Rise someday, as we slowly pull away from North America.

216
Yeah Sure WhatEVs  Feb 12, 2024 • 1:01:49am

That’s where I experienced my first and only earthquake. El Centro when I was or there working. It was a 5.9. To say it freaked me out is an understatement. I had PTSD for months. I couldn’t stop crying, like, all the time. For no reason. For months.

I guess you get used to it. Scared the holy hell out of me.

And untalented actors with obnoxious personalities who express their personal toxicity on social media and then blame liberal Hollywood for their lack of roles.

God forbid it should be a business decision on the part of the producers. Granted, these decisions in the entertainment industry are are often subjective and even capricious, but in the end it is about selling a product and promoting a brand image.

A Republican known for pulling of one of the biggest upsets in recent local elections is predicting another surprise for New York on Tuesday.

Former Rep. Bob Turner is making the call that Republican Mazi Pilip will upset Democrat Tom Suozzi in the special election for the seat of disgraced serial liar George Santos.

“I do think Mazi will win,” Turner, who later served as Queens Republican Party chairman, told The Post. “My sense is Mazi will pull this through.”

“All the issues people are paying attention to favor Mazi,” Turner said.

“Mazi is a good candidate and has run a pretty good campaign,” he added. “People like her. She’s feisty
She’s charming.”

Turner knows all about upsets, after he shocked the political world in a 2011 special election by winning a congressional seat left vacant when ex-Rep. Anthony Weiner resigned in a sexting scandal.

Then a largely unknown retired cable TV executive, Turner ran for the then-heavily Democratic southern Brooklyn-Queens congressional seat in which Jewish residents made up about 40% of the vote.

Darth, not a criticism of you or of the poster, or anyone else, but from my position this is an example of him being in complete control of his emotions.

We all know Football is a stupid sport. I’ve played/coached it essentially my entire life. One thing that you can’t do is be half-assed while playing- you are more likely to get yourself or someone else hurt(I know, sounds stupid). You have to direct your emotions into each physical action. Most of the criticism of Kelce that has been up has been from the Authority side. Players can’t talk to Coaches like that. (Boomer Esiason- looking at you) But Andy Reid and many other “players coaches” want that back and forth with their players. At a professional level, this is more the norm, but the eyes of the Super Bowl make what is normal have a different feel. I have had many times on the sideline going back and forth with either a coach or a player. Yes there is a line that can be crossed- but this was not it.

Plus, the flip side. That directed emotion that we all saw- if the Chiefs had lost, or with the 49’ers- in the locker room the tears and crying that happened. The embrace of coach and player would be just as intense and directed, but would be taken a different way.

Yes, are there players and coaches who cannot control their behavior off the field with other human beings? Yes. I would say, on the aggregate, it is a small percentage. There are stockbrokers, teachers, cops, etc. that also cannot control their emotions away from their job. Problem with the individual people.

Right wingers losing their mind over the Chiefs winning, Kelce winning, Tay Tay winning, and Trump’s ticked off that he can’t get out of his felony indictments on mishandling classified documents because as the special counsel in the Biden case noted - Trump obstructed justice, lied, and ignored subpoenas and purposefully took those classified documents, while Biden inadvertently possessed them and returned them after finding them independently. All of the rest of the special counsel’s statement about Biden was pontificating and trying to help the GOP talking points, all while acknowledging that the GOP has nothing on Biden.

Trump terrified US allies with radical new rhetoric about “encouraging” Russian aggression toward NATO members

That’s not merely being an isolationist. That’s taking the fucking fascist Putin’s side. The GOP backs him implicitly and explicitly, and none of the GOP dare speak out against this insanity.

Trump and the GOP are intent on burning down NATO and the international order, to appease a democidal Putin.

Trump allies training MAGA ‘shock troops’ to take over government

Donald Trump’s allies are training a corps of MAGA “shock troops” to quickly begin remaking the government in the event that he wins a second term.

The former president remains bitter at the former administration officials who tempered his impulses and blocked some of his more extreme policies during his time in the Oval Office, and his allies are identifying and preparing dedicated loyalists to place in key roles to implement his agenda, reported NBC News.

“They have to be resolute with their commitment to the president’s vision,” said one top Trump official. “You weren’t elected; you’re a Cabinet person as part of the executive branch, and your job is to understand and execute.”

The Association of Republican Presidential Appointees will host a two-day “boot camp” on Feb. 19 and 20 to prepare potential government appointees insight into the “operating context” of these roles and tactics they could use to help Trump “gain control over the levers of power.”

“We’re not going to sit around and wait for the Senate, which is very, very divided and not even in the hands of conservatives, to get things done,” said a former White House official. “Things will be happening, even before Inauguration Day.”

Allies are working to “weed out those that would employ subterfuge” to thwart Trump’s plans, and the former president’s fixation on loyalty has settled over the entire Republican Party.

“What I fear is this idea of loyalty means ‘stop questioning,’” said a former adviser. “There will be consequences if you do, and that’s why I think there’s some credence to the idea that he’s a so-called authoritarian. I don’t think he is authoritarian, but he’s opening himself up to this criticism. His idea of loyalty is one-way.”

Armed police raid hotel after Harry Potter fan with wand mistaken for knifeman

Armed police officers scrambled to a hotel this weekend to reports of a knifeman in the building - who was in fact a Harry Potter fan armed with a wand.

The hotel in Enderby - which police did not identify - was raided by armed officers on Sunday morning after reports of a man near the lifts carrying a “large knife”.

But instead of an armed man roaming the hotel, officers found a Harry Potter fan carrying a wand.

Recalling the incident on Facebook, an officer who attended the incident joked there was “no sign of Voldemort” after a sweep of the hotel.

What really galls Trump is that TS could be legitimately wealthier than he is according to an actual balance sheet. And she is only 34.

If the stock market collapsed tomorrow, I can think of plenty of “wealthy” men she would be suddenly wealthier than.

I was pretty sure we had established that Nick Adams was a parody account. Either way, this account is a supreme example of Poe’s Law at work.

I assume anyone who calls themselves an “alpha male” isn’t serious, but sometimes Nick sounds like a very stupid Republican, and other times he crosses that line and seems like over-the-top parody of very stupid Republicans.

I mean.. I sorta wanted the 9ers to win. But I sorta wanted Taylor’s BF to win in her rookie season. Not to mention, Purdy got a lot of dudebro hate as well. He’s a baller.

Lots of heads going splodey tomorrow.

I agree with this completely.

Purdy is a very smart Game Manager. But he relies on McCaffrey (as he should) to be his Golden Boy. McCaffrey is one hell of an athlete. He had a very square game (80 yds rushing and 80 yds receiving on 30 touches).

Mahomes, on the other paw, is a Kaiju, a monster in human form. He’s a Game Changer. A Dervish. A Djinn. Television highlighted TayTay and Kelsey for clicks and views, Mahomes was his own highlight.

He is incredibly fast and twisty, with the best footwork of any QB in the NFL, and he can throw from any angle. He had 325 net yds passing on a 34 of 46 night and led the team with 66 yds rushing on 9 positive carries. So, 391 yds on 55 touches. 7.11 yds per play.

That’s just stupidly productive.

The Chiefs traded up back in 2017 to snag Mahomes at the No. 10 pick in the first round, giving the Bills a third round pick in 2017 and a first round pick in 2018 for their own #27 pick in the round.

Of course. For an accurate measurement of a person’s worth, we assess their possessions, not the money itself. You can’t assess taste via a bank balance.

I’d say around 20 years ago, RFK Jr. had a mildly entertaining AM talk show called Ring of Fire. But even then he was talking about vaccines, just not the full-throated antivaxxer stance he takes now, but you could see the genesis of it. Personally, I’m fascinated by the descent of people down these rabbit holes. It certainly affects a lot of people, but why not me? When I was younger I was far more open to conspiracy theories and listened to people like Bo Gritz on LEFTY stations in Los Angeles. But as the years go on, I’m less and less susceptible to conspiracy theories and calls to Burn it All Down™

So what broke RFK Jr? What broke all these Trumpers? Can it be fixed?

Therapy.

I used to work with the mother of my son’s roommate. She’s the reason we went to the town we currently live in to find a house. Sometime around 2010 or so, maybe a little later, she started getting into conspiracy theories, to the point that her kids wouldn’t have anything to do with her and her husband left her. Because of her stance on covid, she didn’t get invited to her son’s wedding.

But he’s talking to her again, and it seems that she’s got a new boyfriend and is going to therapy. I’m not sure about all of the details, but maybe she’s also turned off the “news” she was getting, but she’s backed off from a lot of that stuff.

Mahomes is what Favre might have been if that good old boy hadn’t been in that car wreck in college and hadn’t been an alcoholic & pill popper (and stop and realize how good he was ANYWAY). Favre was great - think of the game in Oakland after his father died - but could have been even greater with more discipline and less partying. Mahomes has that crazy and the discipline, if you can wrap your mind around that seeming contradiction in terms.

The “news” they watch plays a big part in it, for sure. My wife and I worry about our older relatives. My mom, who is normally rational, told me about a woman she saw on the local news who had her dog stolen and jumped on the hood of the car to try and stop the thief, and the whole thing was caught on video, so there was dramatic footage to watch. She then told me about the “new scourge of dog thieves” victimizing her city, as explained by the newscaster. I had to talk her down off the ledge and point out how there was no “scourge” of dog thieves. It’s just not a thing. The news station got some juicy video, and ran with it. If they got her sufficiently upset, she’ll be more likely to tune in the next day.

It’s poisoning the brains of our parents.

Some people are just born contrarians, their first instinct on being presented with any new idea is to adopt an opposing point of view. This differs from critical thinking in that it stems from the personality type, asserting independence by rejecting anything they perceive as trying to tell them what to think.

I have some doubt as to whether a tablet can really stop a bullet.

A Texas door-to-door salesman was called a racial slur and shot at by a resident at a home he stopped at — but was miraculously saved by his electronic tablet device that blocked the bullet.

The victim, who works for Reliant Energy, was left “shook up” by the terrifying ordeal at the Fort Worth residence.

“He just came out and just straight pointed the barrel at me and then shot me and told me to ‘get away from here, n——-,’” the victim, whose name was not disclosed, told NBC Dallas-Fort Worth. “I’m lucky it didn’t hit me, it hit the tablet.”

It also depends on the tablet and the bullet. Modern smart device cases are made of some pretty tough stuff to be able to resist damage on impacts. They won’t stop high-powered rifle bullets (very little will), but if the guy had buckshot in a shotgun or a 9mm Glock, that’s a different story.

I have some doubt as to whether a tablet can really stop a bullet.

Texas salesman called racial slur and shot at by homeowner, saved by tablet device blocking bullet (NBC)

The pad probably did stop the final energy, but the physics involved is way more complicated than gun-bullet-tablet. How fast was the bullet, and at what angle, and did it travel through anything else, and was it shaped to penetrate? So yes, in this one case it could have stopped it, but you should not rely on a tablet to protect you.

Just skimmed through the NYTimes ranking of the superbowl commercials: nytimes.com

I note they didn’t have to spine to mention the HeGetsUs and Scientology ads.

Edit: Huh, paywalled here but not when I found it via a google search.

Mythbusters did a few tests regarding stopping power of things like telephone books (what are those?), wallets, and some other items, and you could stop some kinds of bullets with some of those things under certain circumstances.

No way I’d rely on any of them, or a tablet to save me from being shot.

I experienced my first earthquake in Safed, Israel where my daughter was living. She had just given birth to her 3rd child. I was in bed and I heard a rumbling noise & vibrations. I was still half asleep and I thought it was a large container truck driving down the street.

When I came to breakfast my daughter said “did you know we had an earthquake?”

And I said, “No!”

She said, “you must have felt something.”

I said, “I did feel some rumbling but I thought it was a big truck.”

She said, “Look out the window, do you see a road with big trucks?” And outside the window is a deep valley with no roads & no 18-wheelers.

It’s lit up like a Christmas tree in my part. Bright pink.

8-13 inches (or more or less). I’m not sure how much I’ll have to shovel, but the ground is a whole lot warmer than it should be, so accumulation might not equal the precip measured as snow in official records. It may be lower. My back is gonna feel it either way, especially when I have to take the little one sledding.

i just….absolutely hate that particular moment in music, with the wavering clarinets. There’s some really excellent big band stuff that I enjoy—Count Basie can definitely rock the joint—but this particular era was just not something I would willingly listen to. It’s like Desi Arnaz. People used to eat that shit up. I watch Desi now and I’m like “this guy can’t fucking sing. Why are people listening to this?”

exactly. this is simply his reaction to one of the most critical moments in the game, the season and in his professional career, naturally his stress levels are going to be off the scale.

Hendrix destroyed hotel rooms. Fischer went through periods where he wouldn’t play, or would only play with strict environmental controls…..in short, he was often an asshole. The very best typically don’t get that way by being completely stable.

But Travis will still enjoy the tour. Next up — two weeks in Australia, a week in Singapore, a month off, then 4 months in Europe, two months off, and back to North America in November.

Definitely not union built.

A raging inferno erupted at a new water park in Sweden with flames decimating a number of under-construction outdoor water slides and related facilities, authorities said.

The massive blaze ripped through several yet-to-be-opened water slides on Monday (Swedish time), including one with a drop of 13 metre, at the Oceana watermark in Gothenburg — sending plumes of black smoke over Sweden’s second-largest city.

Old house we lived in had a huge black walnut tree in the side yard. Was a real danger cutting the grass under it if the wind was blowing. Those baseball size pods could really come down hard. Had one fall on the back porch while my cat and I were sitting there. Cat about jumped out of his skin when it hit the deck boards.

Ingram quipped that the King record “was in the key of R.
