Hey, whoa, everyone's coming over here so fast... can I still toss in my two cents about the Israeli shelling of the UNRWA school that didn't actually happen?
I was just gonna note that the UN only admitted that they lied about about the whole thing now that they were caught in the act a couple of days ago, by a newspaper that interviewed some teachers at the school and exposed the whole thing. Imagine, actual journalism still being done during the age of Obama-worship! I found the story on Drudge a few days ago, and posted a link to it here, but now I can't find the link. My LGF-fu is failing me.
Another interesting point: one of the teachers quoted in that article was left unnamed, because the UNRWA had instructed its personnel at the school not to talk to the press. Why was the UN trying to cover up the truth?

The Pepsi company sent out a rescue team to find the Pepsi and the crew. The rescuers found the wreckage, but there was no sign of the Pepsi or the crew. Finally they came upon a cannibal village. They asked the chief if he had seen the crew and the Pepsi. The chief said"Yep, we ate the crew and drank the Pepsi." The rescuer said "My gosh, did you eat their arms?""Yep, we ate the arms and washed them down with the Pepsi.""And did you eat their legs?""Yep, we ate their legs and washed them down with the Pepsi."The rescuer then said:"I hate to ask you, but did you eat their--you know--things?" But the current elite has not reason.
Neither did the original Whigs. They were offshoots of the Puritans.
Their idea being that the Whigs would control public opinion (by abolishing free speech essentially; secular forms of abolishing speech from 'heretics') to such a degree that it would coincide with their Party platform. That way Democracy was essentially unnecessary. The government would represent the interests of the people, and the people would be educated by the government to think properly. Anyone that dissented would be politically irrelevant. Just like a good ole Puritan theocracy. You can bring up anything you want to discuss or vote on at the town hall; well that is anything that wouldn't get you banished, or burned at the stake. Mmmm, 'democracy' smells an awful lot like burning flesh sometimes.
Sound familiar maybe? Outside of modern 'Progressives' that are definitely engaging in hardcore Whiggery, the original American and British Whig's wanted "The People's Democracy", which was basically Communism before Marx spruced up the ideology with some economics.

I get a lot of comp Aquafina. So I'll continue to not pay for it. Outside of that, I consume little if any of that list to begin with. Virtually any of their products can be bought from the store brand at less price and better quality. I've never ceased to be amazed at the money people throw away on brand names. Both Dr. Pepper and Mountain Dew are Pepsi products. Mellow Yellow is Coke and their Dr Pepper equivilent is Mr. Pibb.
DP is not a Pepsi product.
From the Dr Pepper corporate website.
In 1986 the Dr Pepper company merged with the Seven Up Company to form Dr Pepper/ Seven-Up, Inc which was later acquired, in 1995, by Cadbury Schweppes plc. It would become the largest operating division of the non-cola beverages firm, Dr Pepper/Seven Up, Inc.
London-based Cadbury Schweppes plc acquired the Dr Pepper/Seven-Up Corporation in early 1995 at the largest division of the non-cola global beverages firm.
In 2008, the Dr Pepper Snapple Group, Inc. was established following the spinoff of Cadbury Schweppes Americas Beverages (CSAB) from Cadbury Schweppes plc. It remains one of North America's leading refreshment beverage companies, manufacturing, bottling and distributing more than 50 brands of carbonated soft drinks, juices, teas, mixers, waters and other premium beverages.

Pepsi, how did they ever survive?
Coke could have bought them way back when Pepsi's main outlet was a mega soda bar in Brooklyn (?). Missed their chance then.
In the 60's and 70's, Pepsi went after the youth with "lifestyle" branding. Coke went down nearly fatally with the advent of new Coke in the 80's but pulled the idea after only a few months to return with Coke Classic. For someone Coke's sales were better than prior to the original brand shift.

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY — The Modern Whig philosophy is to empower the states with the resources to handle their unique affairs.STATES RIGHTS — Each state can generally determine its course of action based on local values and unique needs.
Reducing the economic stranglehold of the Feds is definitely not a Dem policy. Outside of those two points, it does indeed sound like a lot of Dem doublespeak.

Corn sweeteners are processed with so many different chemicals (until very recently, mercury!) that the alleged "naturalness" of it is tainted by all the crap in it. Aspartame is pretty well-known for its problems.
Google it. I'm not going to waste my time doing research FOR you. I've done mine.

Thankfully, I have never liked their products or establishments. Makes it easier to never consume or even notice them.
For those above talking about Coke: you can get Coke made from real cane sugar if you buy the ones made in an overseas production facility. Some Coke made in Mexico comes in a glass bottle and is made from real cane sugar. Look in a local ethnic Mexican grocery or convenience store. I have seen several import it for the migrants who want their Coke original style. You will pay a premium for it, but it is very worth it.

No, Numenoreans are human, just elf-friends that were granted the island of Numenor as a reward and refuge by the Vala after the defeat of Morgoth. The island was within sight of Eressea, although the people of Numenor were not allowed to sail West out of sight of their island. The people of Numenor, though they dwindled, were long-lived.

Liberal Fascism.
Just imagine if the boot was on the other foot and Pepsi, Ikea and other corporations lined up to salute George W. Bush and "compassionate conservatism" or Sarah Palin?
I truly truly know how communism, fascism and Nazism swept into power, on a wave of optimism and youthful exuberance. Everybody just got "caught up in it" and nobody said stop....
I really wanted to set up a table at the inauguration with Obama symbol pins, flags and armbands, just to see if anybody noticed.
Lets see, we have MSNBC beaming Obama's inauguration into movie theaters for the "Volk"
We have corporations adopting a politicians symbol as their corporate logo....
We have a cottage industry churning out plates, pictures, souvenirs etc. of the "Great Leader" and a media printing hundreds of "inaugural" issue magazines and newspapers, nothing more than thinly-disguised propaganda.
When the Obama Youth Brigades with their "O" symbols on their sleeves begin their marches in the streets chanting "Hope" and "Change" and ordering manditory recycling of Ann Coulter's "Guilty" for "hate crime" violations, it'll be too late to resist.

It is indeed a derivative work with a certain amount of creativity added to it, but I don't think this counts as fair use. AP is right in this case I think.

As it turns out I've always preferred Coke, but this would likely be something to turn me away, if the situation were reversed.
Kind of like movie actors as well. I think the smartest ones are the ones that shut the fuck up about their political beliefs and not alienate the very people that their livelihooods depend on.......
Sell me your product and just STFU about your politics.
Sheesh.

I know that too much of anything is not healthy, so I limit how much soda my kids drink, especially sodas with caffeine.
I do like sweet things, I must admit. I wish I didn't--you're lucky you never developed a taste for them.
Tab was in fact gross.

Tab wasn't bad before they took the cyclamates out. As a matter of fact all diet soft drinks tasted better before the cyclamates were banned.

I'll stick with Boylan's and Kemper. Used to be able to get Mexican Coke pretty easily, loved the old-fashioned glass bottle too, but the little store that carried it hasn't had it for awhile.
Here in OH, Kroger carries south of the border-made Coca-Cola, over in the ethnic foods section along with other assorted Mexican soft drinks. I bought some recently, and to me it tasted like Pepsi- which I can't stand the taste of. Real Coke (domestic) for me.
Speaking of Kroger, their Citrus Drop tastes so much like Mt. Dew that I can't tell the difference, and I've drunk Dew since I've been around. They have their own versions of Sierra Mist, Orange Crush, etc., as well, all of which tastes as good or better than Pepsico's version. Kroger has their own bottling company and make their own sodas. The other day, when a 2 liter of Mt. Dew was 3/$5, a 2 liter of Citrus Drop, or any other Kroger brand soda, was 68 cents- that's the regular price.
Their store brand of Cheesy Poofs is cheaper than Cheetos, too.
Another set of good reasons to go for store brands over name brands, IMHO.
PS- for all the Gatorade brand drinkers, try Powerade. It's made by Coke.

re: #347 MagnaniomousCoward
Just to clarify here: Copies or derivative works are only legal to make if they are either authorized by the copyright holder of the original work, allowed under fair use, or the copyright has expired or otherwise is invalid.
If you read the rules about Fair Use in US copyright law as well as the case law on this point, I don't see how you could defend it as fair use.
The question if it is derivative or just a copy is not actually relevant in this case. That is only relevant in cases where the maker of the derivative work wants to have a copyright protection of the derivative work itself. (Typical example: A photographer photographs an out-of-copyright statue, but his photo is copyright protected because there is a creative process in photographing. On the other hand, if the same photographer photographs an out-of-copyright painting head-on, he has no claim to a derivative copyright and we can freely copy his photo because there's no creativity in it.)

And it is distributed by Coca-Cola, not Pepsi, which makes Dr Pepper's (and 7-Up and A&W) international distribution a bit problematic - Coke won't do it.

AND - Rockstar Energy Drink is my favorite, and you can't get more conservative than Michael Savage (inventor) and his son (CEO). Funny - I had my first Rockstar (drink) at Bam Margera's last Viva La Bands tour. They gave out free Rockstars. The concert was awesome - GWAR and Cradle of Filth. Plus, I like the diet version, and I've lost 10 pounds in the past month.
It drives the liberals nuts that Rockstar has a hip image and is a Savage product.

I noticed their change in logo about a month or so ago -- my husband and I have already determined Coke-y alternatives to his Pepsi One. No more Pepsi for me!
'Course, if you look at demographics, Pepsi already owns the nutty-liberal wing. That's why we Southerners so often just call any fizzy drink of that genre "Coke" -- it really is the real thing.
I used to think all sodas were cokes - I'd ask for a Coke coke.

Sorry to be an hour late in replying!
It is a mess now, and if Dr. Pepper goes? I will have to calm NY Grampa down. What I fear is that there will, sooner than later, be one multi-conglomerate who gets rid of some of the products that are marginal and/or regional, and we will see a very different soft drink world, far more limited and far more expensive.
By the way, Dr Pepper is in no real danger of "going away" (because it is still very popular), just that it will probably end being bought out altogether by Coke or Pepsi. Because of the bottling and distribution mess, the company has little chance of growth as things are now.

I am switching to one of the Kashi brand cereals. And luckily I have some bags of steel-ground oatmeal to make from scratch, that is not Quaker. I love(d) their breakfast squares.

Laura Scudders made tortilla chips and corn chips for a long time, but they've always seemed like "generic" versions, sad to say. They're OK, just not as good as Doritos or Fritos. I don't think they make them anymore, as the company that owns the Laura Scubbers brand, Grande Foods, makes their own line called Padrinos.
The Laura Scudders brand has had a rather unfortunate history the last 20 years or so, ever since they were bought out by Borden. They went from 50% of the market in California as late as the early 1980s to virtually nothing today.

I will immediately stop using three products in particular that I am very fond of and buy every week: Mountain Dew, Doritos, and Quaker Oats. Shame on you.

There is a Valero near our daughter and her family, in Brooklyn, where we fill up, as they are a US company, with no arab or Venezuelan gas, and also have great gas prices.
My husband will see if they also have Hires. Thanks! He is a bit doubtful, as there has to be a different distributor on the West Coast, but maybe?

Unfortunately, all the other Valero stations I've seen stock the same old things 7-11 and AM/PM do. This local guy does his own thing, I think. He switched from Arco to Valero last year because the company-owned AM/PM on the other side of the bridge was selling gas cheaper than he could get it from Arco.
You might want to check independent stores (it could be a bit of a quest!). The Hires brand is owned by Dr Pepper Snapple, interestingly enough.

Yep. I'm going to check my portfolio for Pepsico in my mutual funds.
Boycotts can work, especially when they are spearheaded by Bill O'Reilly. He literally started a boycott of Pepsico about five years ago, and they knuckled under on his issue.

IBC is good, but honestly, the only real root beer in my mind is A&W from an A&W restaurant. There's nothing else like it. The stuff in the cans and bottles just isn't the same. It doesn't taste as fresh, I guess, especially the cans. Way too fizzy, too.

No, they were sold off by Pepsi almost 12 years ago, but have permanent contractual arrangements with Pepsi:
Yum! (now Yum! Brands) was created on October 7, 1997, as Tricon Global Restaurants, Inc. an independent company, as a result of a spin-off from PepsiCo, which owned and franchised the KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell brands worldwide. Because of the company's previous relationship with Pepsi, Yum! Brands has a lifetime contract with PepsiCo, with notable exceptions being with Dr Pepper Snapple Group for A&W Restaurants to be the exclusive restaurant provider of A&W Root Beer as well as franchisees such as HMSHost and college-operated locations that have separate contracts with Coca-Cola that override PepsiCo's lifetime contract with Yum! Brands.

Actually, they just launched a rework of their logo a couple of weeks ago. Hundreds of stories, including major ad rags, noted that the new logo closely resembles Obama's logo. I think they capitalized on the obvious similarity of the basic logo and made it just that much more obvious. At the same time, they launched their message President-Elect Obama campaign. At the same time, they launched the new hope/change positive ad campaign, which is aimed at millenials, and incorporated the new logo in those hopey changey ads.
It's not really a push for Obama - the man won. It's support, joy, let's jump on the band wagon for the wonderful Messiah. It's insulting to those of us who endured eight years of bullshit from the same fricking liberal elitists who dissed President Bush and now are jamming President O down our throats - literally.

I just don't see it. Yes, the did recently change their logo. Yes, SOME similarities between it at the Obama campaign logo can be made. Honestly, I think it's more that Obama's logo looked similar to the old Pepsi logo, and Pepsi just revamped theirs, as happens every now and then.
And then, even *IF* the new campaign, wording wise, is designed to be reminiscent of the Obama campaign, that can just as easily be chalked up to "current cultural icon". Obama *IS* the President, after all, like it or not. And Pepsi's "generations" campaign has been going on for a long time.
It's not something I'm going to quit drinking Pepsi products for. Not unless I see a lot more solid evidence to the matter.

You can see it or not, but the facts are there. I posted what the ad agency said they did, combined with a time frame. Your initial post showed clearly that you did not know the facts (such as the fact that they just changed their logo, and it now looks more like Obama's logo) but were going on your general feeling, which you are entitled to. You are free not to see it. The fact remains that they changed their logo, launched their Obama messaging push, and came out with their Hope Change ads at the same time.

re: #115 Truck Monkey
Both Dr. Pepper and Mountain Dew are Pepsi products. Mellow Yellow is Coke and their Dr Pepper equivilent is Mr. Pibb.
Wrong....Dr. Pepper and 7UP was owned by Cadbury Schweppes till last year (and has since been spun off into the Dr. Pepper Snapple Group) and the bottlers for those depends on who bought the rights for a specific territory. An example is that my local Pepsi bottler here in Nashville has the rights to bottle/distribute 7UP, but the Coke bottler has the rights to bottle/distribute Dr. Pepper (which they sell in lieu of Coke's version, Mr. Pibb/Pibb Xtra, for bottles and cans, but still supply Pibb for fountain drinks to some of the national/regional fast food and convenience market chains); in another sales territory, it may be reversed, in any combination, or another bottler (such as an independent) may own the bottling/distribution rights to one, the other or both.
I'm generally not about boycotts, but if you choose to make your money talk, research who owns the brands you're thinking about not buying.
