Later, their competitor (a spinoff from that company) bought them.
At another company, the CEO had all these glowing predictions, fancy PowerPoint slides, etc. Last I heard, they caught him after he fled to Kenya to get away from insider trading charges.

I’m not 100% convinced the thing is worth looking at. When I think of the trouble people have in even identifying the affiliation of car dealers as revealed by their patterns of contributions, I suspect that building the enemies’ list required to do what is alleged would be more trouble than it’s worth.

Well, the execs at the current company were asking me about the owners of my previous employer, and asked if one of them was let back in the country yet, or if he’d get arrested if he showed up (again, I think it was insider trading.)

Killgore’s links prove that some Tea Parties have problems, not that it’s an endemic to all. His continual snarky comments paints all in such light. He has an agenda, and that agenda is to taint all Tea parties as having supremacist and Paulian connections. I’m not alone in this observation/belief.

It’s a very safe thing to lie about right now, there’s no way that Chrysler will release the how and the why of their picks simply because there might be suits to come over this, the sales numbers that the decisions were based upon are proprietary and confidential information, and releasing any facts about it is unlikely until a couple years down the line.

T-Bills are paying 1.5%?
The mortgage on my rental home is indexed on the T-Bill and adjusted this year to 3.5%. It is nominally 2.875% + current T-Bill on May 1st (0.6% this year) rounded to nearest 1/8th adjusted every year. That’s right, I have a mortgage at 3.5% right now. One bank I know of took their 5% TARP money and turned around and bought a basket of government guaranteed mortgages yielding 6.5%. Not a bad spread for taking zero risk.
One of the banks that I talk to - or one of their managers - was thinking about that type of strategy, but elected to go the safe route. Too much S**t in the mortgage-backed securities. if the security is marked down to zero, there goes the bank’s balance sheet and the bank goes out of businesses.

Did anyone else watch The Goode Family last night? It was a pretty good pilot, and it’s nice to see that Mike Judge has a new show on tv. Some of the humor was the shooting fish in the barrel type (it’s pretty easy to make fun of liberal, vegan environmentalists.)I think it will get better, if it doesn’t get cancelled.
The family in the show has a dog named Che and they feed him vegan dog food.
I did, and I thought it was just o.k. You could just see where everything was going, whether it was the black neighbor, or abstinence club or the grocery store. For me to continue to set the DVR for it, it is going to have to make me laugh a little more than last night. Che is my favorite character so far, I wonder what he’ll do when he has finally eaten all the neighborhood pets, turn on people for meat?

My hubby has a question. What’s the longest viewable distance with a scope that is currently available on the market? And how do you increase the range you can see with the scope—is it the lenses, the length of the scope, etc?
Now, I’m thinking a scope is like a specialized telescope. So the lenses would do most of the work here. But I know nothing about guns. Hence the question.

I watched Malkin on Fox this A.M. complaining about the MSM dissing Hot Air’s “dealergate” claim about BHO having Chrysler just shut down Republican dealers. The fact that Chrysler picked the dealers did not seem to affect her argument that the “story” was being buried.
In my political world choices were made exactly like that.
Same party friend
Other party friend
Same party foe
Other party foe
Look at other party foe and write the requirements so that he is less likely to meet them. Look at same party friend and write the requirements so that he is likely to meet them. This is a common and sometimes silently understood practice in government decision making. It happens daily. It gets cloaked to meet standards. If other party foe happens to jump all the hurdles and win, that’s acceptable business.
So I would look at the Chrysler decision makers and see how mallable they were to the Obama adminisration via the back door. More likely it’s the gerrymandering of private business decisions by the federal government.

Sorry, I’m not a redistribution commie like Obama and or avanti, I’m sure Avanti will share his down dings with you on the other hand.
Why Socialism Fails—Every Time It’s Tried
An economics professor at a local college made a statement that he had never failed a single student before but had once failed an entire class.
That class had insisted that socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer. The professor then said, “OK, we will have an experiment in this class on socialism.” All grades would be averaged and everyone would receive the same grade so no one would fail and no one would receive an A.
After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy.
As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too so they studied little. The second test average was a D! No one was happy.
When the 3rd test rolled around, the average was an F. The scores never increased as bickering, blame and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else.
All failed, to their great surprise, and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great, but when government takes all the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed.
Could not be any simpler than that.
Another good analogy can be found in: 60 Second Refutation of Socialism, While Sitting at the Beach

I wonder how willing this Fed will be in raising interest rates? We’re in for hugemongous inflation unless the money supply starts to tighten a bit. Oh, watcha gonna do, Obama? All your options suck.
With interest rates at zero, the Fed has nothing but upside when it comes to battling inflation.
Also, housing prices and continued high unemployment will act as drags on inflation.
But you can bet the Fed isn’t happy sitting at zero. There’s no room left for traditional stimulus. I think they’d be a lot happier if the rate were hovering around 3-4%, giving them room to move in either direction as needed.

Agree. We’re talking about hundreds of dealerships from coast to coast, and everyone affected has a line in the water hoping to snag something worthy of a lawsuit to recover some of their losses. I find it a bit strange having a foreign country telling us how to solve our political and financial matters:
From Times Online
May 28, 2009
Germany calls on Clinton to resolve GM fight
Hillary Clinton has intervened in talks over the future of Opel and Vauxhall at the request of German ministers as the American Government unveiled plans to sink more taxpayers’ funds into the European carmakers’ US parent, General Motors (GM).
Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the German Finance Minister, spoke by telephone today with Mrs Clinton to seek “support in the search for a solution,” his spokesman said. Mrs Clinton pledged to intervene to demand “the greatest possible American support” from Timothy Geithner, the Treasury Secretary, the spokesman added.
Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg, the Economics Minister, also denounced the US Treasury for dispatching a junior official who had to consult Washington through a video link at regular intervals during the night.
Mr Guttenberg said the talks had been “absurd in parts” and demanded “more seriousness and a greater willingness to compromise on the part of the US.”

re: #224 vxbush
OT (if that’s possible on an open thread):
My hubby has a question. What’s the longest viewable distance with a scope that is currently available on the market? And how do you increase the range you can see with the scope—is it the lenses, the length of the scope, etc?
Now, I’m thinking a scope is like a specialized telescope. So the lenses would do most of the work here. But I know nothing about guns. Hence the question.
Telescopic sights are classified according to two figures; magnification and diameter of the objective lens (that’s the one in front). The diameter of the lens is mainly only a factor in “light-gathering” power, i.e., the ability to see a clear image in overcast conditions, forest shade, etc., as opposed to bright sunlight.
Most telescopic sights for large-game hunting use are variable-magnification types (simply known as “variables”), with the magnification adjustable by twisting a ring just ahead of the eyepiece at the back end. the majority are “3X-9X” (minimum 3 times magnification, maximum nine times); some go up to 12X (twelve times). At 3X, a target 100 yards away will appear to be 1/3 that range, or about 33 yards (30 meters, or about 100 feet). A 12X sight can “bring” a 600 yard target to about 50 yards.
There are more powerful scope sights, for varmint or benchrest shooting, with magnifications in the 16X, 18X, or even 24X category, but they are generally impractical for field shooting (hunting) due to size, weight, and often fragility (some are suitable only for small-bore rifles, as the recoil of a big-bore centerfire like a .30 caliber can damage their mechanisms.) Airguns require fairly sturdy ‘scopes as well, as the vibration when they fire can be hard on the ‘scopes insides in much the same way.
There really isn’t any set figure for how far you can “see” with a ‘scope. The important thing to remember is that all bullets “drop”, following a curving course due to gravity and gradual loss of velocity. It is really the amount of “drop” at any given range that decides how far away you can hit a target consistently with a rifle; all the ‘scope does is make it easier for you to see and identify your target.
You and hubby should figure out (a) what sort of shooting he’ll be doing, (b) what sort of rifle is best for that kind of shooting, and then (c) go to a reputable gunshop, run by someone who is familiar with rifles, and find out which type and magnification of ‘scope sight is best for that rifle, in that caliber, in that role’.
cheers
eon

So let me get this straight. 1100 GM dealers, 800 Chrysler dealers and all their employees and suppliers out of business, 100,000 jobs lost, and this somehow helps what? But we ain’t seen nothing yet.
Well, the more people forced onto public relief, the more “captive” Democratic votes, they figure.

FAUX news. You mean like MSNBC, CBS, NBC, New York Times, AP, McClatchy, that kind of faux news?

I easily could have mis remembered or heard wrong, please prove me wrong and I will admit it np. The main point still stands, this was primed by Rush first.
You used the “his friend has a dealership” part to prove your point so it’s not up to me to prove you wrong.

I’m just now catching up here, so I may not get the context, but:
I read it online before I heard Rush read it on the air, for what it’s worth. (If we’re talking about the same thing - the letter from the dealer whose franchise had been in his family for years, and was losing it in this process.)

The WaPo, by comparison, seems to be getting increasingly uneasy about The One, especially on the economic front. It’s almost like they’re starting to realize that everything he does flies in the face of what their own economic reporters know about economics.
The fact that any question they ask seems to be met by stonewalling- or an invitation to watch The One take Bo for walkies (on water, naturally)- doesn’t seem to be reassuring them.

Twice in the past few days I’ve received phone solicitations from people trying to raise money for Ron Paul. I hope I was rude enough to discourage them from calling again.

Speaking of Ron Paul, am I the only one who heard (or thought I heard) Mark Levin hang up on a Paulian a couple of nights ago? The guy was telling Levin we “all need to get behind Ron Paul” (paraphrasing), and Levin mocked him and shut him down.
(My radio was turned down though, so if that’s not accurate, please correct me if any of you heard it.)

I find it a bit strange having a foreign country telling us how to solve our political and financial matters:
From Times Online

Germany calls on Clinton to resolve GM fight
A lot of countries have invested a lot of money into our economy, via stocks, bonds, securities, and companies. Seeing Obama play fast and loose with the American economy has them, rightfully, nervous. Seeing Obama brag, boast and beat his chest about what a fantabulous job he’s doing makes them even more so.

Michelle Malkin.
She is smart and a prolific writer.
I think she is a no budge conservative.
I agree, if “no budge” means she sticks to her opinion no matter what the facts may show. If I may be so bold, it’s “no budge” conservatism that’s largely gotten us into this mess.

re: #324 Killgore Trout
How Malkin is really frothing. There’s a lot of anger in her.
Having watched the video in it’s entirety I conclude you just made this frothing stuff up. She’s not frothing at all. She’s presenting her case and not in an angry manner either (at all). Just some more agenda from Killgore I guess.
368 | unrealizedviewpoint Thu, May 28, 2009 3:17:55pm |
Disagreement is one thing Killgore. But making stuff up is another.

I assume you’ve seen enough of Killgore’s posts to know that he always finds froth where there is none, and always ignores extremism where it actually exists. It’s his little thing.

Has Charles posted about Chrysler closing mostly GOP-run dealerships? Gateway Pundit has this on it, and it’s sickening. Dealerships that heavily donated to the GOP have been closed with only a tiny fraction of Dem dealerships.
Anyone in the media care about this corruption?

Did some checking with KT’s comments and apparently he thinks this is bogus - well, the San Francisco Examiner weighs in on this as well, so maybe the media is perking up a bit.
That said, when multiple dealers who have been closed are found to have contributed millions to Republicans and mere hundreds to Obama, the serious number-crunching cannot be completed too soon.
Don’t be calling this story “bogus” just yet.
