Recorded in a home studio, too. Cool!

That was beautiful.
But I'll say that when I saw those names, I was thinking "Cajuns", not "Canadians".

I have no clue what a "harmonic" is.
All I know is that it was just lovely.

Nice song, great performances and a really nice recording for what appears to be a no-frills studio. I'm guessing they played separately and mixed together the tracks. The video kind of gives the impression they were playing simultaneously in the room. That would be tough to get two flawless takes at once on that song.

Antoine Dufour might be my favorite acoustic maestro after Tommy Emmanuel.

Thank you for sharing, Charles.

If you never played guitar it would be hard to understand. The sound of plucking a string is one thing. To get the sound of harmonics, the string is vibrated and lightly "touched" with the finger. It's a softer lighter sound.

Um, like, tapping a glass a spoon sounds different than running a wet finger over its rim sounds different.

You pluck a string with a finger pressing lightly on that string directly over a fret wire. It doesn't work in every fret, 5, 7, and 12 for sure.

Thank you for your discription. Forgot to mention the fret part. I would practice doing it just for fun, but never during a performance.

OT
CNN is reporting that the British Foreign Office is denying (as I laugh) the quoted remarks of the son of Libya's Gaddafi as recorded in an interview onboard the plane with the mass murdering terrorist en route to Libya. The son of Gadaffi (who had gone down the steps of the plane to meet the terrorist, in Scotland, and later when they disembarked in Libya, the son of Gadaffi and terrorist raised their hands in victory), stated that there was a deal -- an oil deal with the Brits, and thus the oil deal got the terrorist released from prison. Now the Brits are denying the son of Gaddafi's remarks...oooh, who to believe, who to believe? so difficult; it's just so difficult...(Wonder what the odds makers in Britain are figuring about that claim of the terrorist's having "3 months to live", etc. Will have to check that one out...)

Are you looking for some way to control them without using chemicals?

They are more closely related to spiders, I think, than to insects, so an insecticide won't be effective unless it also says it's a "miticide" or "acaricide" (sp?).

For outside plants, washing the plants with a jet of water can remove and kill them, as well as remove the eggs.

So with whatever else you've tried, you might also try putting the plants under the faucet or in the shower. You also need to bag up any leaves etc. that you are discarding.

They're tough.

re: #14 J.S.

Sadly I'll believe Quaaadhaphie on this one. I'm pretty sure this deal was cut years ago. As I recall reports at the time involved Libya paying preparations, giving up their nuke program in exchange for the release of the bombers, diplomatic recognition and giving various oil contracts to western countries.

Seattle's incumbent Mayor tossed in the primary.

Nickels Concedes In Primary Race

In a light-hearted announcement at a news conference, Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels conceded in the top-two primary race, ending his eight-year run at City Hall.

Nickels said that when he became mayor in 2002, he promised to "make the right decisions for the future of the city, rather than ones that would preserve my personal popularity. Based on Tuesday's primary election results, I have succeeded beyond my wildest dreams."

No need to neuter the plants...
Just get a plastic spray bottle that adjusts, turn the spray to medium, and put a few drops of ivory liquid dish detergent in a cup of water. Shake it up and spray it on 'em ' til the mites are gone. You don't have to use Ivory, but use one without perfume or dye.

KILLGORE -
The Roi is a big fan of diatomaceous earth for various things:

Plants: Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth as a Natural Insecticide
Use Perma-Guard Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth as a natural insecticide for the non-chemical control of aphids, whiteflies, beetles, loppers, mites, leafhoppers, and other insects. Sprinkle it inside your greenhouse, or outdoors on fruits, vegetable plants, flowers, grains, and grass—up to and including the day of harvest.

Diatomaceous Earth controls insects by using physical, not chemical, action: It punctures an insect’s exoskeleton and absorbs its body fluids—thus posing no harm to warm-blooded life. Moreover, on any surface, this natural pesticide has a remarkable repellency factor. As long as Diatomaceous Earth is present, insects tend to stay away, making a serious infestation unlikely. The more it is used, the more an environment is created which makes insects feel unwelcome.

For young plants, as little as 2 lbs. per acre may be adequate. For larger plants, 5 lbs. per acre is probably sufficient. It applies best when there is dew or after a light rain. It is a long-lasting, natural, effective powder, impossible for insects to build up resistance against

.

Well, that is exactly what OBAMA is doing. Using a season of economic anxiety to enact sweeping changes the public likely wouldn't stomach in ordinary times.

Not such a Peggy Noonan fan anymore, but she's got this one right in her latest WSJ piece...

Right now Mr. Obama's gift is his curse, a Congress dominated by his party. While the country worries about the economy and two wars, the Democrats of Congress are preoccupied with the idea that this is their moment, now is their time, health care now, "Never let a good crisis go to waste," the only blazingly memorable phrase to be uttered in the new era.

It's not especially pleasurable to see history held hostage to ideological vanity, but it's not the first time. And if they keep it up, they'll help solve the president's problem. He'll have a Republican congress soon enough.

$2 Trillion Higher Deficit Projected

The Obama administration expects the federal deficit over the next decade to be $2 trillion bigger than previously estimated, White House officials said Friday, a setback for a president already facing a Congress and public wary over spending.

The new projection, to be announced on Tuesday, is for a cumulative 2010-2019 deficit of $9 trillion instead of the $7 trillion previously estimated. The new figure reflects slumping revenues from a worse economic picture than was expected earlier this year. The officials spoke only on the condition of anonymity ahead of next week's announcement.

I was thinking more of the "hard-bodied" insects (like ants, beetles, ticks/mites)...the Ancient Greeks would pour the powder of the ground-up flower heads around baseboards to keep the pests out ..(I hear that slugs can be humanely trapped...you use a bait in a container...could use a "catch and release" program (?) ... The "bait"used in many of those containers is beer.
But alas, there is no catch and release - they drown.

There's a real barn-burner going down over at Defensemans' blog, if you're so inclined... quite the eye opener.

You should read it too, Charles.

I have not missed rodan and company. Not in the least.

Something very strange happens to people on the internet.

People allow themselves to do and say the most outrageous things. In real face to face life, such behavior would have real and often immediate and sometimes very painful consequences.

The internet makes poor behavior almost costless.

That the legion of the banned obsess so much over getting banned from LGF is a little disturbing.

Even when banned, LGF consumes them.

Is their world so small that there is nothing else in it with which to occupy their minds and their time?

If you enjoy fantasies of Jews beating out Nazis' brains with baseball bats, carving swastikas in their foreheads, and generally behaving like Nazis in a snoff-purn orgy, you'll probably like "Inglourious Basterds", all 150 excruciating minutes of it.

That is a weird and common malady of internet bullies and trolls. I moderated a religious forum for a while and we couldn't get some of the real head cases to stop trying to register sock puppets and stalk other posters. One woman even targeted posters on our youth forum sending them personal messages about how they could leave our faith and become "saved" by hers. We shut that crap down fast and then she started complaining on stalker sites about how we spied on her messages.

The registration agreement clearly stated we monitored messages sent through the board IM system. Duh!

160 3 wood  Fri, Aug 21, 2009 4:58:20pm

I linked to this story on the previous thread, but it bears repeating:
W.H. hikes deficit estimate by $2 trillion

The White House is likely to dramatically increase its projected 10-year budget deficit estimate next week by nearly $2 trillion, senior administration officials said Friday.

Obama administration officials have concluded the economy was much worse last year — and tax revenues much lower — than they had initially assumed, which means that the estimated budget deficit will increase from $7 trillion to about $9 trillion over the coming decade.

The planned revision was first reported by Reuters, and White House officials confirmed that account for POLITICO.

There’s no doubt the revision will be interpreted as bad news for an administration whose deficit spending has emerged as a political Achilles' heel.

Implications of this:

1. You can forget about the "public option" in health care. No way they can get votes for the deficit monster now.

2. Interest rates are going to jump. This will start the "crowding out" effect I have talked about in the past, discouraging private capital investment.

3. The Fed is going to have to start jacking rates up.

4. Figure on at least a "W" shaped recession.

re: #160 3 wood

I linked to this story on the previous thread, but it bears repeating:
W.H. hikes deficit estimate by $2 trillion

No doubt we'll soon be hearing instructions not to get wee-wee'd up about this.

Also, any discussion of this will be considered a distraction.

FYI, albusteve, Rodan is stalking people, outing their personal information, jeopardizing their jobs and jeopardizing the safety of their families. I'm one of them. So is Hoosier Hoops. So is Sharmuta.

He's also actively stalking the person who runs this website, and pays for YOU to have the privilege of posting here out of his own pocket. You might think about that before you continue to tell the people here who are standing up to that cretin and his cronies to just "forget about it".

We're not going to.

And if you have a problem with me or anyone else posting about it here, you can take it up with Charles. Who by the way, links Defenseman in his sidebar for a reason.

That the legion of the banned obsess so much over getting banned from LGF is a little disturbing.

Even when banned, LGF consumes them.

Is their world so small that there is nothing else in it with which to occupy their minds and their time?

I posted this a few days ago, but will repeat it.

I visited what I was led to believe was a conservative site and discovered where some of the legion have gone. They recognized my nic and welcomed me like I had been banned too. One of them made a comment that Charles is ready and willing to ban more people from his site if they down ding him just once. Didn't stay long.

re: #155 DaddyG

That is a weird and common malady of internet bullies and trolls. I moderated a religious forum for a while and we couldn't get some of the real head cases to stop trying to register sock puppets and stalk other posters. One woman even targeted posters on our youth forum sending them personal messages about how they could leave our faith and become "saved" by hers. We shut that crap down fast and then she started complaining on stalker sites about how we spied on her messages.

The registration agreement clearly stated we monitored messages sent through the board IM system. Duh!

I've been a site administrator for many years, and have moderated some very busy, very tough chatrooms and forums. You can usually deal with them effectively online, but it's a whole 'nother story when they take it offline.

The James Camorron movie Avatar coming out in December is projected to be great.

187 DaddyG  Fri, Aug 21, 2009 5:09:26pm

Reminds me of a nice stunt on the site I had moderated. The forum techie found one of our stalkers was posting from work so he linked his profile photo from the office when he acted up one time. That shut him up pretty quick. These creeps get pretty nervous when you reveal you know as much about them as they claim to know about you. /Not that I'm advocating that...

188 Cato the Elder  Fri, Aug 21, 2009 5:09:44pm

Cyber-stalking should be met with legal action, for which there is plenty of case law and precedent.

It should not be fed in public. That only increases the rush the stalker gets from stalking.

226 That's Mr. president to you  Fri, Aug 21, 2009 5:30:43pm

One of my staff sent an article by George Stephanopoulos that is titled :
Obama Needs Confidence Boost.
I sure am glad I am going on vacation - it will give me time to ponder the imponderables, like "exactlt how could I be any more perfect that I already am?" And you know - I think George is right.

In the last year I have been quite a bit too modest and deferential. I have been too quick to compromise and engage the other side. And I really have not focused enough on me. In fact, my campaign was too issue focused and almost had me as a sideline. A subtitle. An afterthought.

My instinct is to do more. Do more for me. Do more about me. Boost my confidence. Be assertive. And when you are are as perfect as I am, what is good for yourself is good for everyone.

So after vacation, expect a new me - rested and more confident! More able to impose who I am on a situation rather than simply sit back quietly and modestly like the wilting lily that you have come to know.

Hoops , there is something going on here. You don't take extreme postions & you are not nasty that I have seen when you are in debate.
I'm serious, I think that the guy might have confused you with someone else & then did his research.

Hope so...Anyway we need inspiration tonight..one Christmas when my company was flush with cash they asked about the Holidays and I submitted an Idea about buying presents for local poor families...And so I proposed that the local police dept would submit names, ages and needs for the upcoming months till christmas...We got 50000 dollars to go shopping...Do you know how much fun it is to spend some Company money on some kid called Billy that would like a bike and cool jeans?
3 of us went on a shopping spree for 2 days..I had the time of my life watching people wrap presents.. That's when I got the idea..If I could get corporations to send me money I could have a blast shopping for kids and buying food for hungry families...
That was a special Christmas...I plan on doing it again...Although me with a list of 14 yr old girls clothes in Old Navy is a lost cause...That's why men get married..We need the help.:)

This was just posted in the Spinoffs.

LA Times Provides Platform for "Boycott Israel" Call by Radical Neve Gordon

The Los Angeles Times has crossed another anti-Israel line. The details below give you everything you need - included the contact information for all the LAT Op-Ed advertisers. Let's "Beck 'em"!

This time the paper published in its opinion pages a call for international economic sanctions against the Jewish state. Under the headline "Boycott Israel"(August 20), Neve Gordon, an Israeli academic at Ben Gurion University, leveled the "apartheid" smear and urged support for the "Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement." A veteran defamer of Israel, Gordon repeatedly referred to his Jewish identity as supposed proof of the merit of his fringe views.

The Times Op-Ed pages have become a venue for extremist attacks on Israel and Jews. An anti-Semitic cartoon echoing Nazi imagery and unbalanced, error-prone opinion pieces prompted CAMERA to take out full-page ads in southern California papers in 2008.

A nineteen-month study had revealed the Times carried 50 percent more guest columns with a pro-Arab message than those with a pro-Israel message. Beyond this quantitative tilt was the additional problem that many of the anti-Israel columns contained extreme and often factually false charges. The trend toward publishing strident, distorted attacks against Israel in the opinion pages has continued in 2009.

Here's a link to the Gordon piece.

My church does something similar. The trees at the church are decorated with paper "ornaments", each with a name and an item or two that a needy person wants (plus pertinent size info, etc, when applicable), and each tag is identified with a first name and a number.

You take as many tags as you want, purchase the item or items, wrap 'em up, tape the tag on the package and bring it back to put under the trees in church, before the deadline, when everything is distributed.

I have had more fun shopping for clothes or boxes of goodies for some child who needs them.

Blair, 'blood money' and a Lockerbie deal: Talks with Gaddafi hours before BP agreement

Tony Blair has been accused of agreeing a 'blood money' deal involving the Lockerbie bomber with Colonel Gaddafi just hours before BP unveiled a £500million oil contract.

The then Prime Minister laid the foundations for the release of Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed Al Megrahi during a meeting with the Libyan leader in a desert tent two years ago.

The pair thrashed out a controversial prisoner transfer deal just before BP chairman Peter Sutherland announced the firm was investing $900million - about £545million - to search for oil in Libya. If the firm strikes rich, it could be worth £13billion.

The Scottish Government confirmed that its justice secretary Kenny MacAskill would announce Megrahi's fate at 1pm today.

The Joys of sharia...
An overdraft? That'll be £200 at Lloyds TSB (but only £15 if you're a Muslim)

If a Muslim customer who has insufficient funds in the account tries to make a payment, it is blocked and a 'return item fee' is charged.

However, on some Islamic accounts such a payment is authorised and an 'unplanned overdraft fee' of £15 is then levied.

The bank says this is a management fee, not a payment of interest, so does not contradict Sharia law.

Meanwhile, customers with standard current accounts who go into the red by at least £100 without authorisation are hit with an 'unplanned overdraft fee' of £20 a day for a maximum of ten days. This could mean a customer has to pay £200 in one month.

I don't feel like I need to punch the person in front of me in the grocery line for being a clueless dick and having twenty items in the fifteen item lane, simply because this kind of music is mellow and pleasant, and keeps the anger at bay.

There's lots worse stuff out there to have as background noise. Like death metal or Kenny G.

Regular, or Tarantino-style?

So many ways I could go with that, I should probably refrain.

Orders, please?

Dosio Barolo. If unavailable, a glass of Jordan cabernet sauvignon.

Or a cold mug of Schaeffer...

Gotcha. Makes sense to me.

Death metal as background music? A nightmare.

Did you read my mini-review at #150?

Anyone think that while Obama's on the Island, he'll pull a Putin and snag himself a big honking shark? Personally, I wouldn't recommend it, but I'd never again call him a metrosexual weenie if he did it.

Churchill had a say so? I had not heard that.

I do know he was aware of the Manhattan project, but I think a better description would have been "he was consulted", because if he said no, I very much doubt Truman wouldn't have gone ahead anyway..

Chances are better of Obama snagging a shark than showing any balls to Putin, I know that much. Putin's the scary guy in the room. Definitely not a metrosexual. Men like him make Obama go wee wee.
