Looks like Robert Stacy McCain wrote another 3000-word post attacking me and defending Josh Trevino for lying about me on Twitter. Which is always fun!

Of course, McCain sees nothing wrong with writing for Brussels Journal.

I don’t agree. It’s a pity that there are bigots and fools… not a pity that this day represents their freedom to be bigots and fools. And our freedom to call them bigots and fools. IMO.

Google has some sort of Rube Goldberg type contraption to unfurl the flag. Gee. All of that trouble just to fly a flag. Dogpile might not have a flag but they have its Arfie and girlfriend watching fireworks with a Happy July 4th message. Interesting.

McCain’s post is a textbook example of his debased intellectual dishonesty. For the record, this is what Joshua Trevino posted on Twitter:

I’ve been blogging so long, I remember when Charles Johnson declared that Palestinians ate human remains.

Followed with this:

Sad truth: Charles Johnson (@lizardoid) did, in fact, go on once about a Palestinian “swarm” at which human blood was licked up.

Both of these statements are pure and simple, outrageously brazen LIES. I have never written anything like this at LGF. (However, one of their heros, Pamela Geller, HAS written this kind of thing many times.)

So for defending myself against an outright lie, posted on Twitter by a contributor to a European fascist website, RS McCain declares I’m “smearing” Trevino. Classic turnspeak.

And of course, the hurr hurr chorus immediately retweeted it a dozen times.

I’ve reviewed several of the earliest LGF car swarm postings, and while Charles’ comments on them can by no means be described as politically correct (LOL) he never accuses the Palestinians of blood-drinking or cannibalism:

Joey Chestnut wins fourth straight Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest; Takeru Kobayashi taken into custody

[Link: sports.espn.go.com…]

NEW YORK — Competitive eater Joey Chestnut has held on to his title at the annual July Fourth hot dog eating contest at New York’s Coney Island, but one of his biggest rivals tried to crash the celebration and has been taken into custody.

Chestnut chomped down on 54 hot dogs in 10 minutes on Sunday to win the annual Nathan’s International Hot Dog Eating Contest for the fourth year in a row.

Watching from the crowd was six-time champion Takeru Kobayashi who has not signed a contract with Major League Eating to be free to compete in contests sanctioned by other groups.

But Kobayashi went on stage after the competition. Police officers grabbed him, and he tried to hold onto police barricades as they took him into custody.

These days its about the sensitivity. The new cameras can be set very sensitive but black sky will get noise, digital “grain”, but uglier by far.
I will certainly use long exposures, I think I’ll bring the laptop and control the camera with that. On film cameras the cable shutter release is a cheap accessory. For the new Canon’s -$160 with timer features. Sheesh. Otherwise its 30 seconds maximum.

Still think Steele’s comments on Afghanistan were a gaffe? Today Brietbart launched a new site: Big Peace.

Here’s a sample….

Thanks to Big Peace, issues of vital importance to our security – including such topics as: the threat posed at home and abroad by the theo-political-legal-military code authoritative Islam calls Shariah; the implications of President Obama’s pursuit of a world without nuclear weapons and the defective New START Treaty meant to advance that dangerous initiative; the menace facing our sovereignty and liberties at the hands of “transnationalists” and their international lawfare; the opportunities for securing our borders and energy supplies; and many more – will made available to millions of Americans in an authoritative, timely and evocative manner.

They are opposing the New World Order and domestic authoritarians. I seriously doubt they’re going to be supportive of any American military engagements while Obama’s in power.

The teen is off with some friends this weekend and I assume he will come back missing a fingertip since each time he hangs out with his LARPing group (which he does twice a month) he comes home sick or injured. Last time it was bronchitis he is still on meds for and the time before he twisted his ankle so bad he had to wear a boot and not work for 3 weeks. The total for his LARPing weekends this year have been about $1200ish this year.
I guess this is payback for a relatively healthy and injury free childhood…

I actually saw 1776 on stage as well as screen and liked the stage version better. The movie seemed compelled to introduce motion into the story. Naturally there was less scope for moving around on a stage, but just because you can move farther doesn’t mean you should. Thanks to Big Peace, issues of vital importance to our security – including such topics as: the threat posed at home and abroad by the theo-political-legal-military code authoritative Islam calls Shariah

Well it looks like the same old cast of characters for now. Same old talking points and same old “concerns”. I believe we’re reaching a saturation point with these neo-right websites. It’s a reflection of what occurred on the left during their birth and subsequent presence on the web.

Venezuela seizes oil rigs owned by US company

Venezuela’s government has seized control of 11 oil rigs owned by U.S. driller Helmerich & Payne, which shut them down because the state oil company was behind on payments.

Oil Minister Rafael Ramirez announced that Venezuela would nationalize the Tulsa, Oklahoma-based company’s rigs. He said in a statement Wednesday that Helmerich & Payne had rejected government demands to resume drilling operations for more than a year.

Helmerich & Payne announced in January 2009 that it was stopping operations on two of its drilling rigs, because Venezuela’s state-run oil company, PDVSA, owed the company close to $100 million. It said it would shut down the rest of its rigs by the end of July as contracts expired unless PDVSA began to make good on its debts. The company said Thursday that PDVSA’s debt was $43 million as of June 14.

Referring to Helmerich & Payne, Ramirez said: “There’s a group of drill owners who have refused to discuss service prices and have preferred to have this equipment put away for a year.”

President and CEO Hans Helmerich said in a statement on Thursday the company’s position has remained clear: “We simply wanted to be paid for work already performed.” “We stated repeatedly we wanted to return to work, just not for free,” he said. “We are surprised by yesterday’s announcement only because we have been in ongoing efforts in a good faith attempt to accommodate a win-win resolution, including a willingness to sell rigs.”

The company has worked in Venezuela for 52 years, Helmerich added.

U.S. State Department spokesman Mark Toner said he hopes Helmerich & Payne is compensated and suggested the takeover and other recent nationalizations are scaring off private investment in Venezuela.

“We would just call on them, if they did make such a move, to compensate the owners of those wells,” Toner said. “This is the latest in such an instance where international investors, their investments are being nationalized by the government of Venezuela. It doesn’t speak or bode well for the investment climate there.

Ya think?

From downthread. These are very lovely. They are all contemporary. The last one is the Chavarria family, Santa Clara pueblo. The second could be Acoma, but a couple of the pueblos up near Santa Fe do that black and white work as well. Thanks for posting them.

The book is The Essential Liberty.

Which is sponsored by The Patriot Post.

Which is run by Mark M. Alexander.

Who wrote a screed called “The Lincoln Legacy Revisited.”

In which he said:

So the ‘history’ that we have been continually fed, is anything but the actual truth or events as they REALLY transpired ! One of the perks of being the one in power, is that you get to be the one who says what ‘history’ would be written. Lincoln took full advantage of this perk !! In truth, if the REAL Lincoln were the one we knew about, read about, and had in our history books, instead of the invented one, he would NOT be so honored, praised, and well respected as the Lincoln we are told of today and that has been in our public school history books.

One of his online bios shows the following:

Alexander’s heritage is Scots-Irish, but he detests “hyphenated Americanism.” His is among the “First Families” of Tennessee, having settled in East Tennessee prior to statehood (1796). He is the product of a proud military legacy, including veterans of the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812 and the War Between the States (the “right” side of each, of course).

Competitive eating scandal rocks the nathon. Lo, the seamy underbelly of competitive gluttony:

Chestnut’s main rival, six-time champ Takeru Kobayashi, never competed. He was unable to reach a contract agreement with Major League Eating.

“If he were a real man he’d be on the stage,” Chestnut told ESPN. “There’s no reason for him not to be here.”

Kobayashi was at the event, and went on stage after the competition. Police officers tried to drag him away as he held onto barricades and he was taken into custody, The Associated Press reported.

Kobayashi’s absence from the competition left Chestnut free to scarf his way to victory. His 54 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes was short of his own record — 68 — set in 2009.

Jon Fleischman Is Latest GOP Official To Criticize Afghan War

Jon Fleischman Is Latest GOP Official To Criticize Afghan War n a private email provided to the Huffington Post, a vice chairman of the California Republican Party questioned the value of continuing the 9-year war in Afghanistan in light of its heavy costs to American taxpayers.

Jon Fleischman, a political consultant and veteran GOP official in California, was writing in response to an op-ed calling on Michael Steele to resign as chairman of the Republican National Committee over his criticism of the war last week.

“For what it is worth, I’m an officer with the CA Republican Party and I can’t figure out what we are achieving in Afghanistan, at least not for the economic cost to US Taxpayers,” Fleischman wrote on Friday. “Since I am not particularly isolationist, it means my government is failing to communicate well.”

Well, President Obama is trying to bind the United States into a global economy where all of our nations come together in a global economy.

Really? How shocking! You mean like exporting goods or services to other countries for them to buy and importing goods or services from other countries that we buy?

I’m sorry I had thought that we were doing that even before the Declaration of Independence was signed, I didn’t realize that Obama was the one who invented it.

Contrary to freetoken, I don’t believe isolationism is about to take over the GOP. Just look at what are still the most popular GOP figures today — Palin, Cheney, Gingrich, among others. All hawks.

The isolationist minority in the Republican Party is simply taking advantage of the fact that the war in Afghanistan is becoming steadily more unpopular, that’s all. Steele is not an isolationist, he is a (clumsy) politician. As the number of people who oppose the war go up, politicians who were in favor of the war will be tempted to switch position or avoid the subject.

Still think Steele’s comments on Afghanistan were a gaffe? Today Brietbart launched a new site: Big Peace.

Here’s a sample…

They are opposing the New World Order and domestic authoritarians. I seriously doubt they’re going to be supportive of any American military engagements while Obama’s in power.

Makes sense strategically for the GOP right now. What possible use is any measure of success in Afghanistan - or indeed anywhere - now to THEM?

Ahh. The perfect July 4th dinner. A premade salad from a gourmet food market in Philly. Boy am I lucky I do not have to cook in this heat. Here is the website of that store: [Link: www.dibruno.com…]

My O’my — the deli’s on the east coast. Top notch.

Thank you. I go to DiBruno’s practically every weekend. It is my break from cooking.

Exactly. Much like its strategically out of vogue for democratic politicians to harp on the evils of Guantanamo Bay.

How Republicans Made Their Peace with Sodomy

So, their seething on this particular issue didn’t boil over into the Kagan hearings, and now they want a medal for ‘making peace with sodomy’?

Good w-end destination to avoid cooking for myself. At least one meal. I have favorite places like that. For me it’s part of my very own, personal, reward system.

That is why I do it. A co-worker mentioned she did things like that for herself.

Thank goodness I’m not alone in what I thought a selfish ritual. And I guess it can be likened to a weekend ritual as I seldom miss.

I always fall back on the “why do I work” excuse. Not to pay the bills exclusively.

Hi from Paris, everyone!

I wish you a happy Jully 4th. Sorry I’m not there to enjoy it, but I’ve been out and about in Paris all day yesterday and today.

Do you all miss me? You Betcha! Who doesn’t? =)

I do miss you guys. I’ll be back to commenting my usual normal times when I get back next weekend. =) Until then, Happy 4th! =)

Summer, we’ll always have Paris.

He also wrote this: Murder in Black and White.

If you read through it you’ll notice a lot of “hints”.

I noticed in the comments section of that freeper link that the second comment had multiple links to the white supremacist “American Renaissance” website, and there was a secessionist post at the end.

And of course, they swear up and down that they aren’t racists over there.

Here is a gem from the local news radio station that they play on their website and over the air.

Beat me to it!
I actually saw 1776 on stage as well as screen and liked the stage version better. The movie seemed compelled to introduce motion into the story. Naturally there was less scope for moving around on a stage, but just because you can move farther doesn’t mean you should. Not every conversation needs to be conducted while walking, pacing, riding a horse… But I’m watching for old times’ sake.

I’ve been in the play (as Andrew McNair, Congressional Custodian), and the rest of the cast always got a kick out of the lone Jewish guy in the show having the line,

“Open the windows! Close the windows! Sweet Jesus!”

I also did a one-night fill-in as Thomson, the Congressional clerk, whose main function is to read the missives from George Washington. The night I filled in, someone in the cast thought it great fun to shuffle my papers, which of course had all of my lines on them. Fortunately, I’m obsessive-compulsive about checking my props.

Upding for Dibruno Bros. I hit one of their places once a week or so as a “treat” to get something different in terms of cheese, a baquette, or simply for prepared food like a quiche or salad. I like their salmon spread and use it on crackers.

Charles, Thank you for wishing a “Happy Independence Day” and not just “Happy 4th of July” to say up front what the meaning of the day is. To just wish a “Happy 4th of July” misses the whole point of why we celebrate the day.
