We’ve shown you a lot of video and photos from the altercation between Republican Congressional candidate Nick ”Gunny Pop” Popaditch’s Tea Party supporters and Rep. Bob Filner, his Democratic opponent, at Golden Hall on election night. The footage shows chanting, yelling, shoving, cursing and just plain ugliness. But how did Popaditch supporters perceive it?
Here’s what it looked like to one member of Gunny’s Corps. The following video was shot, edited and uploaded to YouTube by a Popaditch supporter who happens to go by the handle “Aurick the Great White Elf“ on the white nationalist message board, Stormfront.org. At the time he was using the Beavis & Butthead image to the right as his profile image…which is fitting considering the video is very heavy metal.
The video contains amateur footage of the Popaditch Experience at Election Central, followed by images of insurgents, militias, the Irish Republican Army, a whole lot of AK-47s (Aurick lists researching AKs and revisionist history as among his interests on his “about me“) and Mel Gibson in Braveheart (wtf). It also makes reference to snipers and is accompanied by this call to action (emphasis added):
When political and diplomatic negotiations fail then we have only violent rebellion left to insure our people are fairly represented. We may have to force our government to respect our demands at gunpoint! This election was a complete fraud for those of you that still can’t see the obvious and we have almost exausted all peaceful negotiation with this tyrannical governement, so what is left? Total war is all that’s left to us! I saw the begining of it last night and so did all of you, but most of you do not realize it yet. This is a game they let us win a few seats in the House but this is not in any way a decisive victory and the tyrants are still in power! Now is the time we begin to force them to recogzise our power, and we’ve only just begun to fight. We have rebel friends around the world too that will join us in our eternal struggle for freedom.

I'm at a loss. This can't be allowed to continue.
I am hopeful that with this highly public incident and surrounding mainstream discussion of the matter that includes disgust for this violent, eliminationist rhetoric that it will make voters more sensitive to it when it again appears. Even low information voters are hearing this and hopefully it will have an effect on polling attitudes and votes. This is the only way that things will change.

Debbie Wasserman-Schultz (D-FL) had an angry mob yelling at her during one of her town halls. I don't know if this was the only time it happened, but here, some man screamed "You're a liar!" at her. When the cop advanced, he backed off. The police presence, you watch the video, made a huge difference to bring things back to a civil discourse.

Actually she has this huge, thick round bottomed stainless steel wok. I hate veggies, or I did until she introduced me to her stir fry.

I had a loop of intestine get squished out of position and blocked. So I had to have my stomach continually drained while it worked itself out. Thank god it did without the need for surgery.
Yes, you were lucky. My dad (who is of course MUCH older than you) had to have the surgery, which went fine, but then he got one of those hospital infections (C. diff) and it still bothers him a little, two years later.
Right now my older brother is recuperating in the hospital after laparoscopic surgery to fix diverticulitis.

I don't get comparisons between the Wellstone memorial and yesterday's:
He died in a plane crash days before an election he was competing in. There should be an assumption that he himself may have wanted the election and competition of values continue on in his name and legacy. I'd want a big ass party after my death celebrating things I hold dear, plus a wake with golf, poker, and fine scotch and tequila sipping.
Yesterday's memorial was more somber in the aftermath of a violent murder, but the wishes of a little girl showing interest in politics at a young age, the tenuous survival of a bright and respected congresswoman in the balance, the shock of a nation needing to reconcile with the event, the celebration of the lives that died, that was the goal of the creators. What the hell is wrong with that?

Five days after being shot in the brain at point-blank range, congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords is sitting up and able to move both arms and legs.
Ms Giffords cannot talk yet because of a breathing tube but her neurosurgeon, Dr Michael Lemole, says she is communicating using her hands.
"I have to say this is major leap forward. This is a major milestone for her and we're hoping that she crosses through many more," he said.
The congresswoman opened her eyes for the first time yesterday soon after a visit from president Barack Obama.

I'm a little skeptical that anyone can feel sincere affection for another country based on events 230 years ago that isn't some kind of forced affectation. You don't hear Brits talking wistfully about how fond they are of the Germans for helping out in the Napoleonic Wars, for example. It's just absurd nationalist myth-making.

If I were a Congresscritter right now, I'd make a simple announcement--"The Tea Party is going to hate me no matter what, but I'm not going to give them what they want. I won't hate them. I'm just going to ignore them. If they want to calm down and discuss issues instead of screaming, fine, I'll sit down with them and discuss the issues. But until then, as far as I'm concerned, they don't even exist."
