Activists claim Syrian tanks are approaching the central city of Hama - a day after clashes between government forces and protesters reportedly left more than 60 people dead.
The apparent offensive comes as more than 100,000 people turned out for the funerals of those killed during anti-regime protests on Friday.

See this as well

Syrian rebels asked Israel for help

Pro-democracy activists and rebels in Syria recently asked Israel, their nation's worst enemy, to come to their aid, according to an Israeli government official.

Ayoub Kara, the Likud minister for development in the Galilee and Negev regions, told a gathering in Beersheva on Saturday that he had been personally approached by the Syrian protestors.

"The Syrian opposition asked for my help because of my connections," said Kara. "They wanted me to go to the [Israeli] government for help, that we would ask the UN, the US and the EU to go against [Syrian dictator Bashar] Assad."

I just don't see that happening. Consider Israel's position; if they help the rebel groups, Assad and Iran and other Arab regimes will find a way to blame Israel for all the uprisings against the dictators in the region. It would be construed as a foreign attack on the regimes, instead of a homegrown uprising.

As it is, Iran's busy scapegoating Israel for all that ails the region.

Still, it is interesting that some of the rebel groups, including those in Libya are contemplating better relations with Israel.

Too bad all those Arab regimes invested in the lies so deeply. They are in too deep to back up. They'll have to fall first only then leaving room for sane policies with Israel.

Ha! Its actually a good song - Stones owed London Records one song to complete their contract and move on and London enforced it.

So Mick wrote the dirtiest lyrics in history so London couldn't make a dime.

If we allow this to be as far as we reach. Then I will be one of those guilty of allowing that to happen.

And I want my grandchildren to reach way way beyond where we have gone.

This is where I as a catholic would say ' pray for us',
Our better memories of all that have gone beforenus will make that happen.

I guess I believe in Hope more than Faith.

The wind strips off the oils, including the body's natural UV protectant, so you have to cover your SPF lotion with something or make sure you use something with both moisturizer and SPF.

And for those who may have known Andrew only from the "Golden Girls" theme, he released an album in the mid-70's "What's Wrong With This Picture," the cover of which indeed was a "what's wrong with this picture?" game.

What's Wrong With This Picture?

If you look at the picture, you'll note that the curtains of the closed window are blowing while the curtains of the open window aren't moving at all; the horizon through the two windows are at two different levels; that sort of thing.

There are several websites that actually "solved" the cover, making a list of all the wrong things.

Pretty clever idea, and it probably cost a small fortune to produce.

He's decent, but he hasn't had the protection he needs. Sadly, that's not likely to change. Most likely the lockout will mean that if there is a season the Bears offensive line will still suck, having had no chance to come together.

As for Cutler, he's not even in Chicago right now. He's currently in Floral's neck of the woods, with his fiance Kristen Cavalari of MTV reality fame. And he must be doing something right to snag someone that hot and that self-assured.

Believe me... Jay Cutler doesn't need any distractions.

She knows that. Kristen Cav does remember what happened to Jessica Simpson and Tony Romo* and she mostly kept a low profile during the season.

*: Simpson showed up in the stands at a Dallas home game wearing a pink version of Romo's jersey. Tony Romo choked badly and after the game Terrell Owens read him the Riot Act in the locker room, following which Jerry Jones apparently had some sharp words for Jessica's father.

Tony Romo choked because Tony Romo choked, not because of a pink jersey.

Both Owens and Jones thought it was because Romo was distracted. I tend to agree. The incident marked the beginning of the end for the couple and Romo dumped Simpson a few months later. He recently married Dallas weathergirl Candice Crawford, sister of Gossip Girl star Chance Crawford.

Cutler needs to toughen up, but it's going to be hard for him to move forward when he's still getting sacked this year because the owners decided to demand more money. That's enough to give anyone a bad attitude.

Yikes! Is the right going anti-nuclear? Take a look at this:

The Federal Aviation Administration is coordinating efforts with the Japanese government to minimize the exposure of travelers coming to the United States.

However, with the current rate of radiation being released and the possibility of more reactor meltdowns the United States may need to set up mass quarantine facilities at local airports.

It is important to now consider the worst case scenario where thousands of Japanese possibly tens of thousands may end up evacuating to American cities.

Quarantine facilities? And not just at LAX and Seatac, but "local" airports. How about FEMA camps for those infested with Japanese nuke cooties? This is pure insane fear-mongering, the kind of thing the far, far left used to own. Damn hippies.

The negro MO is always attack via pack, or weaponry that is defacto pack, and usually by surprise attack. When the odds are more even, I have noticed a marked deficiency in black victories. As a student of history, I have made the observation that with the same weaponry, it generally takes 10 blacks to equal 7 whites in battle: Don't want to debate why. In the US, the whites outnumber the blacks overall circa 4-to-1, except for enclaves here and there. When the Whites of any area in the US rise up, they will do so because they will have little choice. [and it just drivels on...]

There is a movie I'd like to recommend to sci-fi / monster-movie / film-school nerds called "MONSTERS". It does in fact have monsters in it, but it's actually a love story, of sorts.

First, the movie is Better Than You Expect.

Second, it's useful to know that it was written, and directed, and photographed by one guy: Gareth Edwards, who also did all the editing and special effects on a laptop.

Third, it's useful to know that the film crew consisted of 7 people, which included the two lead actors. Everything was filmed on-location, often in places they didn't necessarily have permission to film in. For example, there's a disaster scene that was shot in an area of Galveston, TX that had just been savaged by hurricane Ike. All the extras in the film were just regular people who happened to be nearby at the time.

The entire budget of the film was less than $500,000. That kinda sounds like a lot until you remember that the gigantic turd "Splice" cost SIXTY TIMES AS MUCH to make, and "Superbabies 2" cost FORTY TIMES AS MUCH.

And given its constraints, it's really damn good.

Law-abiding minorities (that is, most of them) should really consider arming themselves. Many don't know what their rights actually are in this area.
My (white) security guard friend worked for two years at a local housing complex that was 92% black. Residents asked him all the time what it took to get a license for a gun. They were astonished when he told them how easy it was and that no license was necessary.
He also tells me that his black co-workers report a huge increase in the use of the "N word" by irate drunks and other trouble-makers, especially young whites, during the past couple of years. It is worth noting that a disproportionate percentage of private security guards are black (about 24% according to SEIU).

When I get asked about a good cheap gun I always point people at S&W Model 10 or 64s. Boat loads of cheap "carried much fired almost never" guns traded in by security and armored car companies of late. Nader was a protest vote. Had Gore had a real chance of winning Virginia, I would have voted for Gore.

The only one I regret, though, is Edwards.

I have a H&R in .17 HMR. I can shoot golfballs and 120 yards.

Been wanting a .17 but haven't decided to spring for it yet. The H&R would be my choice for in that caliber. I have a real affinity for single shots for recreational shooting. I think it comes from being heavily exposed to automatic weapons during my military career, anything that shoots fast has too much of an aura of work about it to be much fun.

If you think you're cursed, you should get a load of some of the guys I've supported over the years:

Ed Muskie, 1972
Mo Udall, 1976
John Anderson, 1980
Gary Hart, 1984
Mike Dukakis, 1988
Jerry Brown, 1992
Bill Clinton, 1996 (hey, you can't be wrong ALL the time)
Ralph Nader, 2000
Howard Dean, 2004
John Edwards, 2008

Yep. I'm that much a loon.

I wasn't quite old enough to vote then, but I worked for the Anderson Campaign. I still believe he would have been better than either Jimmy or Ronnie.

My presidential votes:
1972 Nixon
1976 Carter
1980 Reagan
1984 Reagan again
1988 Dukakis (pissed off about Iran-Contra and the religious right)
1992 Clinton (still didn't like Bush 41)
1996 Clinton
2000 Gore
2004 Bush
2008 McCain-Palin
I definitely regret some of these, though not Nixon. If Tricky Dick were POTUS today, he would already have gone to Tehran, where he would have stolen most of the oil, sabotaged the nukes, pilfered the palace silverware, and left Ahmedinejad happy and pleased to have been of service.

Before finding a way for you to vote him in for another term.

I could only be considered conservative in comparison to the people around me (SF Bay Area is not a bastion of right-leaners), but there used to be conservatives I could talk to. So I'm glad to have found my way into this group.

(Going to bed now... anyway my connection keeps dropping.)

Ayup. And I found a recipe for oats brulee that I think he'll like. Apples, cinnamon, maybe a hint of cardamom...
