Robert Spencer (Inspiration for Oslo Terrorist): ‘How Much $ Did You Get?’

Breivik’s main source of inspiration invents a conspiracy theory about me
LGF • Views: 46,736

The main inspiration for Oslo terrorist Anders Behring Breivik was undoubtedly “counter-jihad” kingpin Robert Spencer; Spencer is cited dozens of times in Breivik’s manifesto.

Today Robert Spencer crawled out from under his rock, to accuse me on Twitter of being paid by sinister hidden forces.

@Lizardoid It was a reductio ad absurdum (look it up). I’ve been meaning to ask: how much $ did you get for selling out all your principles?

My reply:

How much money are you making by peddling bigotry and hatred? RT @jihadwatchRS: how much $ did you get for selling out?

Spencer, Geller and the like have helped create a multi billion dollar industry around fear, paranoia and reactionary behavior...fat cats

Precisely what "principles" do you believe have been sold, Spencer? Define them. I dare you.

I've been saying for a while that journalists need to start following the money behind these bigot bloggers. They need to put the real people funding and feeding the hate machine in front of the American people.

5 jaunte  Thu, Aug 4, 2011 12:55:01pm

Pretty skimpy for a conspiracy theory. No blackboards; not even a scratchpad.

6 Randall Gross  Thu, Aug 4, 2011 12:56:58pm

Journalists could start with Horowitz, Heritage, and Chernick, and from there they could look to see if there are foreign funds from Pan hellenic, Armenian, and Serbian interests.

Thinking it might not be that great an idea to name whole segments of the US population as traitors who need to be deported and possibly exterminated means you obviously support the Jihadis and the ideas of radical Islam.

Obviously.

Breivik was exempt from conscription to military service in the Norwegian Army and has no military training.[35] The Norwegian Defence Security Department, who conducts the vetting process, say he was deemed "unfit for service" at the mandatory conscript assessment.[36] In 1997, at age 19, he lost 2 million kr. ($369,556[37]) in the stock market.[38] At age 21, he had plastic surgery performed to reshape his forehead, nose and chin.[38]

Huh. In his manifesto and elsewhere it was because of "conscentious objector" status.

22 (I Stand By What I Said Whatever It Was)  Thu, Aug 4, 2011 1:19:39pm
Anders Behring Breivik, the butcher of Norway, believed the "Muslim colonization" of Europe - aided and abetted by multiculturalist fellow travelers and colluding weak-kneed politicians - was poised to destroy pristine Norway unless he acted. Breivik's European Declaration of Independence lists a series of demands, above all that "immigration in whatever form should be immediately and completely halted, and that our authorities take a long break from mass immigration in general until such a time when law and order has been reestablished in our major cities."

The irrational fear of immigration does not align with the facts. Immigration has remained remarkably stable over the past 50 years - with approximately 3% to 3.2% of the world's population as international migrants.

[…]

Most claims in the public sphere for or against immigration have been formulaic, underwhelming and lacking the seriousness this human dilemma demands.

More to the point: For more than 25 years now, it has been obvious to researchers, if not to the political class, that integration and not immigration had become the elephant in the room. But integration, beyond "multi-culti" platitudes, was never really given a chance. Beyond demanding that Muslims give up the veil and stop arranged marriages, nobody seemed to grasp that integration is a two-way street, bringing immigrants and native citizens alike into a cleared-eyed view that theirs is a shared fate in a changing world.

ADL Applauds U.S. Directive on Preventing Mass Atrocities

New York, NY, August 4, 2011 The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today welcomed an executive order issued by President Barack Obama that enhances America's ability to prevent and respond to mass atrocities. The presidential directive also bars perpetrators of war crimes, crimes against humanity and other serious human rights violators from legally entering the United States.

According to the Aug. 4 Presidential Study Directive/PSD-10, "Preventing mass atrocities and genocide is a core national security interest and a core moral responsibility of the United States."

I've been saying for a while that journalists need to start following the money behind these bigot bloggers. They need to put the real people funding and feeding the hate machine in front of the American people.

I'll bet there's nothing to discover. Charles' blog is a business and it seems to pay the rent; the notion that there's another, secret source of funding is preposterous.

Out on the fringes, there's still less chance of securing outside funding. The authors work day jobs and the things are run on shoestrings.

They don't have any mass following, either. People in America, on the whole, have enough troubles without borrowing them. Daily life and ordinary encounters form a more robust basis for opinions on race, gender, religion, etc., than do obscure blogs.

No new info unfortunately. It only says he was "weeded out" during the first round. I think he either faked a condition, or simply told them that he wasn't motivated for service at all. Sometimes that's enough.

In the old days (up until the 90s/00s) pretty much everyone was drafted. That is, unless they had serious conditions or were conscious objectors (which just meant that they had to do 14 months "civil service" instead of 12 months in the military.) These days, there's only a small percentage of 18/19-year olds who get drafted, so naturally the military prefer to draft those who are actually motivated. If you simply tell them that you're not the least bit motivated, chances are good that you won't get drafted. Maybe that's what Breivik did?

Obama Turns 50 Despite Republican Opposition

After months of heated negotiations and failed attempts to achieve any kind of consensus, President Obama turned 50 years old Thursday, drawing strong criticism from Republicans in Congress. "With the host of problems this country is currently facing, the fact that our president is devoting time to the human process of aging is an affront to Americans everywhere," said Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, who advocated a provision to keep Obama 49 at least through the fall of 2013.

My biggest complaint is that the original article was annoying to read, too many irrelevant details, too many panoramic descriptions, etc. I sort of assumed that it was probably not so much of an accurate account but part of someone's agenda. Only men in the old days. Theoretically, women should be drafted as well as men these days, considering the new anti-discrimination laws. However, it turns out that very few women actually wants to do military duty. Strange indeed.. I think there were two or three women in my battalion when I was in. One of them worked in the kitchen, the other one went back to a civilian life after a few months. There were some female officers however (4 or 5). Some of them (2-3) were quite foxy ;)

This is interesting.

Eduardo Galeano, Open Veins of Latin America: Five Centuries of the Pillage of a Continent, Translated by Cedric Belfrage (Monthly Review Press, New York and London, 1973).
3. The Invisible Sources of Power
As Lungs Need Air, So the U.S. Economy Needs Latin American Minerals

Likewise in Argentina, the foreign concerns and their native echoes have always insisted that the subsoil contains little petroleum, although investigations by technicians of Yacimientos Petroliferos Fiscales (YPF), the state organization, have established beyond doubt that deposits exist beneath almost half of the national territory and the Atlantic coastal shelf. Each time talk of the Argentine subsoil's poverty becomes fashionable, the government makes a new concession to some member of the cartel. YPF has been the target of continuous and systematic sabotage since its inception. Until a few years ago, Argentina was one of the last historical settings for the interim-perialist conflict between declining Britain and the ascendant United States. Cartel agreements did not prevent a dispute, sometimes involving violence, between Shell and Standard Oil over Argentina's petroleum: the coups d'etat that have followed one after the other in the past forty years provide some eloquent coincidences. The Argentine Congress was ready to pass the oil nationalization law on September 6, 1930, when Jose Felix Uriburu's barracks putsch ousted nationalist leader Hipolito Irigoyen from the presidency. The Ramon Castillo government fell in June 1943 when it was signing an agreement [179] to promote oil extraction by U.S. capitalists. In September 1955, Juan Domingo Peron went into exile when the Argentinian Congress was about to approve a concession to Standard Oil of California. Arturo Frondizi set off more than one acute crisis in the three branches of the armed services by announcing that the country's entire subsoil would be put up for bids by concerns interested in extracting petroleum. In August 1959 the offer was called off for lack of bidders. The plan was promptly revived and again called off in October 1960. Frondizi made various concessions to U.S. members of the cartel, and British interests -- decisive in the navy and in one political group in the army -- played a part in his fall in March 1962. Arturo Mia annulled the concessions and was overthrown in 1966; Juan Carlos Ongania's hydrocarbons law the following year showed the United States to be the final victor in the internal struggle.

There were early reports like this one.....
Pakistan has bin Laden wife, children in custody

The official said the wife and children were left behind after an American transport helicopter, possibly an MH-60 Sea Hawk, was abandoned because of mechanical problems.

He said there was not enough room for the group on the other helicopters, which were transporting bin Laden's body, other male captives and the commandos.

Might be a false report, misquote or whatever. Despite what a lot of people seem to think, Obama has not shut down secret cia blacksites and rendering suspects to other governments for harsher interrogation. The missing bin laden son was supposed to be the heir to Al Qaeda. He's gone missing and nobody's seen or heard from him. If he was taken I suppose the wives might tell the story. We may never know for sure but I suspect he'll not be seen again.

Yes, the wives are in Pakistan. These are Islamist wives. Do you think they know anything that was not in the reams of data that was collected?

There is another older son that could could have been there, but his inside knowledge is unknown, as is he in Al Qaeda, and even if he had been captured he would not likely be prosecutable without something very specific tied to him.

The persons to capture would have been the "courier" killed, but the objective was not to capture and make martyr of anyone. I think OBL would have been shot had he been on his knees with hands in the air.

I don't buy any more conspiracies in this regard.

Hamza bin Laden

Hamza is the son of Khairiah Sabar of Saudi Arabia, one of Bin Laden's three wives who were living in the Abbottabad compound.[11] Interrogation of the surviving wives of Osama Bin Laden by Pakistani intelligence after the raid on the Abbottabad revealed Hamza, who was living in the compound at the time, was the only person missing. He was not among those killed or injured. The raid by the American Navy Seals was thorough: infrared technology, as well as ground troops, remained confident nobody inside the compound got away. There were no hidden exit tunnels from the compound. However, whether inside or outside the compound during the raid, Hamza escaped and remains at large.[12][13] Hamza remains wanted by the FBI for terrorist activities, It is believed Hamza Bin Laden was groomed by his father as his successor in Al-Qaeda.

re: #201 makeitstop

I hate to take the cynical view, but they've got plenty of time to work on that.

Not with the ideological trajectory I'm looking at. As soon as congress reconvenes the GOP will be back at "homosexuals and abortions!" That and their usual anti-science bologna. So far the GOP came into the house giving Americans the impression that they will be about jobs or turning the economy around. They've offered little to nothing other than the usual drivel about tax cuts and austerity measures.

It's very tiring though watching American's flip between Republican and Democrat presidents. Bush is president for 8 years and we end up having the meltdown of 2008 and trillions in debt. No job growth and no wage growth. Americans then say, "I better get those Republicans out of the WH" and then proceed to vote for a Democrat. 4 years later they're doing the same thing with the Democrat in the WH? What's the answer then for these Americans? Bringing back another Republican into the WH?

But they'll be back and the next big fight will likely be over DOMA. The Feds need to get their asses out of the personal life of Americans. The Federal government has no place in defining marriage nor is it called for in the Constitution. If some state wants to make illegal. Fine I guess. We can just laugh at them and avoid doing business with that state. Why are we even having that debate? DOMA should go. Full stop.

And the Democrats need to grow some bigger balls and start playing hardball with the Republicans. Because the Republican Party is playing hardball with them. My advice is to replace Reid and Pelosi. You can barely hear a word coming out of Reid and Pelosi is "meh." The Democrats need leaders that are ready, willing, and able, to kick some ass. Those two just won't cut it.

Sadly, the only arrow the Fed has left in its quiver is to force the banks to pay for parking their money in the Fed. Right now, banks *make* a small amount of money each day by not lending. Reversing that policy would have a tendency to increase lending. One hopes. Or we are truly fucked. Todays losses were around one trillion $s in capital.

re: #240 austin_blue

Sadly, the only arrow the Fed has left in its quiver is to force the banks to pay for parking their money in the Fed. Right now, banks *make* a small amount of money each day by not lending. Reversing that policy would have a tendency to increase lending. One hopes. Or we are truly fucked. Todays losses were around one trillion $s in capital.

Just get rid of the Fed then! Banks could make better policy on their own.

/im getting good at this

If Spencer is such a "freedom fighter" why doesn't he go to Bahrain? Why doesn't he go to Syria or even Egypt? Of course you won't see him on the front lines with real freedom fighters. Instead you'll see him at the next gathering of bigots sponsored by paranoid co-bigots like the EDL or the BNP.

The permanent job search has left me feeling very grasshoppery these days.

I understand the ant's point. But to let the grasshopper sit outside his door and starve to death also makes the ant an un-caring motherfucker.

One of my problems with storing food for a famine. Who could watch other people starve? I sure couldn't.

The economy isn't going to fix itself.

Not according to the gospel of Freemarket Jesus.

The system is broken. The world economy is in need of radical changes because the system as we've known until now is not working. This includes economic and changes within governments to avoid bankruptcy of nations and declining monetary values. Or least methods to reduce their impact on the average world citizen. What we are facing now is far larger than what occurs within our borders alone. This is a global crisis. If we patch things up they will only return as we've seen today.

And those with available funds probably found some good deals. Most events that are disastrous for some are opportunities for others.

The company I work for finished up a deal last week. They bought four polypropylene plants off of Dow Chemical (two in Texas, two in Germany). I think this now makes them one of the top five polypropylene producers in the world.

And my former employer is in the midst of selling off another plant. They have been in constant downsizing mode for the last 2-3 years as they sell off hard assets and mothballing older facilities to keep up cash flow requirements of their central refinery business.

The Democrats need to get angry. They need to take a stand and speak strongly and firmly. Otherwise they're going to continue to be lead by the nose by the GOP. Look. They were basically being toyed with by the GOP even when they had a super majority, through filibusters. Health care reform was literally hijacked by their own party members. OK. But name one Democrat in the House that stood up to the Tea Party and spoke out and which was covered by the mainstream press? I sure can't. Barely heard a word out of Nancy Pelosi. She didn't even start Tweeting -- or her office -- until the very last days of the negotiating. Who's running her office?
