Breitbart Brain Trust Completely Destroys Own Websites

Breitbart’s heirs: the C team
Wingnuts • Views: 54,628

At Breitbart.com, all the little mini-Breits are scurrying around today, still trying to make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear and hype their absurdly stupid attacks on President Obama for introducing Prof. Derrick Bell at Harvard 21 years ago.

Oh wait, I forgot — Obama hugged Prof. Bell too. When two black men hug, the republic is in horrible danger.

The latest smear they’re trying to float: they’re calling Prof. Bell a “racialist,” which is, of course, the term that white nationalists often use to describe themselves. Classy! OBAMA: ‘Open Up Your Hearts and Your Minds’ to Racialist Prof.

But meanwhile, as they were preparing to unleash this mind-shattering BOMBSHELL on the world, and destroy Barack Obama’s chances of reelection, they actually did succeed in destroying something besides their reputation — their own website.

Check out what happens if you click on any link at Google to articles at Big Government, Big Journalism, or Big Peace.

Yes, it’s true. All the direct links to old articles at all the “Big” sites are broken. They all redirect to the front page of breitbart.com.

That means no one who’s searching for an article at one of their sites can get to it through Google or Yahoo or Bing or any other search engine. I wonder how long it will take the Breitbart brain trust to notice that their traffic to thousands and thousands of articles has suddenly completely stopped? (Probably not long, now that I’m posting this.)

It’s been this way all week. When they redesigned breitbart.com (and got rid of its news feed services), they apparently changed their URL schema without even thinking about what would happen to the millions of existing links out there, and completely hosed all of their search results.

And it’s not just search engines; all links to their old articles at all websites are broken. Links at blogs, news sites, places like Digg and Reddit and LGF — all broken.

And they haven’t even noticed yet.

These are the geniuses who are going to carry on Andrew Breitbart’s legacy.

UPDATE at 3/8/12 1:51:25 pm

Alexa’s statistics are not the most accurate, but their graph of biggovernment.com’s traffic shows what happens when you totally screw up all incoming links to old articles:

UPDATE at 3/8/12 2:17:08 pm

Quantcast verifies the precipitous dive:

I have to say that I'm impressed. It took them no time at all to muck everything up once Andrew was gone. I guess he really was that important. And I don't care if logic suggests these things are unrelated, I like to think they're tied directly together.

Steven Seagal, Joe Arpaio Deputies Sued For Reality Show Tank Raid

Jesus Llovera has filed a civil lawsuit against Seagal and members of the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team for a raid they conducted in March, 2011, based on allegations that Llovera was involved in cockfighting. Llovera filed a separate claim against Seagal and Arpaio’s deputies last fall.

Llovera, who previously pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor of being present at a cockfight, was suspected of raising roosters and chickens on his property to fight, a felony, and also a violation of his probation.

The Sheriff’s Office, which used “a tank, a bomb robot and 40 deputies,” according to the Arizona Republic, accidentally killed over 100 of Llovera’s roosters and his 11-month old dog during the course of the raid.

Several cameras were there to film the incident for the A&E program. Afterwards, producers tried to get Llovera to sign a release for the episode. He refused.

Llovera’s suit claims that the raid was conducted for the purposes of the show, and is part of a pattern of Arpaio “arresting and prosecuting individuals without probable cause solely for the selfish and improper purposes of achieving personal and political gain through publicity,” the Republic reports.

Question: is it possible this is some sort of suicide mission on Brietbart.com's part? What I mean is, they're obviously invested in the Harvard video being the BOMBSHELL that will take down Obama. Is it possible they purposely are redirecting everything to that page in some attempt to Google bomb Obama?

I realize this theory falls apart once you have to move on from the Harvard video, but we ain't talking about a group of Einsteins here.

I don't think so. Breitbart was holding on to the video to release later. They decided to release it after his death but the video by itself is dull and uninteresting without Andrew's showmanship and antics to hype it. He just can't be replaced.

I generally vote Democratic and would be classified as liberal, but to be honest, the Republicans' sojourn into Crazy Town worries me a lot. Mainly because I'm under no illusion that the Dems are the be-all and end-all for solving our country's problems.

We're in this together, and we're handicapped as it is by a two party system. When one of those parties decides that the country needs to become a theocracy, with many civil right rolled back to, say, 1703, that's a problem.

79 Gus  Thu, Mar 8, 2012 10:46:16am

It's interesting listening to Joel Pollak. He's working backwards with regards to Obama and this alleged "relationship" with Derrick Bell. At this rate then anyone that had any sort of relationship with Derrick Bell is a radical. Of course these people have a low threshold for radicalism. If we go back and note the radicalism of David Horowitz for example who was completely immersed in what they would call radicalism. It's a but like watching "wingnut theory" at work.

Not only that but beyond 2008 since we're looking at a video tape from 1991. Ask yourself, where were you in 1991 and what were your beliefs then?

I was two years old.... so yeah.

David Horowitz:

The Horowitz family broke with the American Communist Party after the publication of Nikita Khrushchev's Secret Speech in 1956. According to Horowitz,

"The publication of the Khrushchev Report was probably the greatest blow struck against the Soviet Empire during the Cold War. When my parents and their friends opened the morning Times and read its text, their world collapsed -- and along with it their will to struggle. If the document was true, almost everything they had said and believed was false. Their secret mission had led them into waters so deep that its tide had overwhelmed them, taking with it the very meaning of their lives."[8]

Beginning in the early 1960s, Horowitz lived in London as an employee of the Bertrand Russell Peace Foundation.[9] Regarding himself as a serious Marxist intellectual, Horowitz was disturbed when, in 1966, Ralph Schoenman persuaded Bertrand Russell to convene a war crimes tribunal to judge American involvement in the Vietnam War.[10] According to Horowitz, the tribunal's judges, who included Isaac Deutscher, Jean-Paul Sartre, Stokely Carmichael, Simone de Beauvoir, James Baldwin, and Vladimir Dedijer, soon degenerated into a feuding rabble.[11] See Russell Tribunal.

During his time in London, Horowitz was also a close friend of Deutscher, of whom he published a biography in 1971.[12][13]

Horowitz then wrote The Free World Colossus: A Critique of American Foreign Policy in the Cold War. In January 1968, Horowitz returned to the United States and became editor of the New Left magazine, Ramparts.

During the early 1970s, Horowitz developed a close friendship with Black Panther Party founder Huey P. Newton. In Horowitz's subsequent writings, Newton is depicted as equal parts gangster, terrorist, intellectual, and media celebrity.

As part of their work together, Horowitz helped raised money for Newton and assisted with the running of a school for the children of Party members. He further recommended that Newton hire a bookkeeper, Betty Van Patter, who was then working for Ramparts. In December 1974, Van Patter's murdered body was found floating in San Francisco Harbor.[14] Horowitz, who was certain that the Panthers were responsible, had his suspicions confirmed by several Party members. He has cited that experience as the catalyst which led him to reject Marxism completely.

Obama is a vastly more known quantity than he was in 2008. 2008 tricks won't work, wingnuts.

They barely worked in 2008. They worked so well against Kerry in 2004 because he had absolutely nothing likeable or charming about him. The muck stuck.

So they tried the same approach with Obama in 2008, overlooking the fact that most people, save for the extreme bigoted right, rather liked the guy, even if they did not agree with his politics.

And it backfired to the point that the poo they were flinging bounced back and stuck to them.

Was he being serious or flippant?

I'm guessing it was just a joke, based on the lecture audience's reaction, though the clip is cut so short (intentionally, I imagine) on both ends that it makes it harder to tell. Ignoring Ogletree example specifically though, I'd be shocked if it wasn't actually the case that a number of the President's former college friends and professional acquaintances received a barrage of media inquiries during the 2008 election and were politically astute enough to understand the potential consequences of providing lots of seemingly bland information to RW-muckrakers.

If introducing and hugging a prominent & respected professor is enough to transfer responsibility for all his past and future writings, any minor details of the President's college life, for example a seminar he attended, someone he tutored, or people in a study group, opens further Pandora's Boxes for smears by association.

re: #62 Tundra Boy

I just took a look at the breitbartian video where Charles Ogletree claimed they 'hid' the part of the Bell/Obama videa where Obama praised (it sounded like a normal intro to me) Bell and then hugged him. Charles Ogletree said 'we hid it in 2008'. Any idea who 'we' might be? Was he being serious or flippant?

I'm sure this would make more sense if only there were two or three chalkboards available.

'Glenn Beck': Who Is Charles Ogletree?

[...]

The old Black Panthers and the New Black Panthers call for that. He was part of this. OK, or at least he edited to the newspaper. I'm sure he was uninvolved other than that.

This past May — this is where it gets interesting — Ogletree received an award from the Ella Baker Center for Social Justice. Ella Baker, where have I heard that before? Oh, yes. Yes, that's right. That's right. Ella Baker — who started that? Van Jones. Also, the Black Liberation Army. Black Liberation Army. Black liberation — oh, black liberation theology — that's right. That's Jeremiah Wright theology.

The Black Liberation Army — there was a violent shoot-out of the Black Panthers in the 1970s and they stormed a police station and opened fire, killing a San Francisco area cop. The case was eventually dropped after they were allegedly tortured during the investigation.

In 2005, suspects were arrested after refusing to answer grand jury questions about the case. Coming to their defense, Danny Glover and Charles Ogletree. Finally, Charles Ogletree has a few powerful friends, including Michelle and Barack Obama. Here he is:

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

FIRST LADY MICHELLE OBAMA: And then there is my friend and former law school professor, Charles Ogletree, product of the Merced Public Schools.

(APPLAUSE)

Now, he is an example of how you can bring your skills back. His ambitions took him far away from home, but he has never forgotten where he came from.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

BECK: OK. He taught both of the Obamas at Harvard. He says he advised them and then continues to advise them now, saying, quote, "They have not hesitated to call me over the past 20-plus years as needed."

Now, I wonder if Obama called during the Henry Gates debacle. You remember that, right? Where Obama said the police acted stupidly before he knew any of the facts. Gates' lawyer? Charles Ogletree. Gosh.

Go read it all. Stop laughing!11

And it is about time that we vet the pres. That is now a very popular hash tag on twitter and launched a new company called twitchy.com. And I think in a way, it's in the same spirit of Andrew Breitbart, of continuing to forge a revolutionary space, in new media to push back at the warped media. And look, this is a guy whose associations with people who believed in liberation theology, as you expose during the 2008 election cycle, Sean, and who embraced someone who believe in the radical extreme theory, called critical race theory, which blamed white people for everyone's guilt, which is poisonously anti-Semitic has never been scrutinized, by reporters who will send an entire armies down to Texas, to go literally turn over rocks to try and smear.

One of the things critical race theory does is point out that what Jews have gotten in the way of civil rights they've fought and struggled for. The main thesis-- though this is a massive oversimplification-- is that the white political establishment never willingly cedes power or grants rights to minorities except when it's in its own vested best interest. I don't think it's absolutely correct, but it's certainly correct more often than I'd like.

There's a lot of aspects I think are unworkable, like an insistence that moving beyond racial prejudice is not practically possible, and that the best we can do is establish political, social, and economic safeguards to counteract racial privilege. I think there's a practical middle-ground to be had.

But as a critique, it's very, very relevant, and a lot of the critiques of the way that civil rights have progressed are very apt; only when a group itself has gained actual political power has that group made large strides.

Republican Lawmaker Now Supports Obama, Says GOP Presidential Candidates ‘Would Take Women Back Decades’

New York Assemblyman Teresa Sayward (R), who is retiring after serving a decade in Albany, told the New York political program Capital Tonight that she does not support any of her party’s presidential candidates, because of their stances on women.

She also took an apparent shot at Republicans’ opposition to President Obama’s birth control mandate, saying, “It’s disheartening for me to see our party move away from what it was always about and that is to stay out of people’s lives, let them live their lives, don’t impose their religion on anybody else.”

Asked which Republican candidate she supports, Sayward replied:

SAYWARD: I do not have a favorite in the presidential race, if I had to vote today, I’d vote for Obama.

INTERVIEW: Really?

SAYWARD: Absolutely… Because I really, truly think that the candidates that are out there today for the Republican side would take women back decades.”

Yep. This is not rocket surgery.

Critical race theory: the cutting edge

The first article is by Bell. There's at least one article tackling the question of antisemitism.

185 simoom  Thu, Mar 8, 2012 11:32:03am

The RW blogosphere is furiously digging through video archives for anything that mentions Derrick Bell. PJMedia thinks they've found their next "bombshell" in 4-seconds of a 1988 sit-in news video clip:

[Link: openvault.wgbh.org...]

J. Christian Adams@PJMedia:

I found that Barack might not be the only Obama on the tapes.

In May 1988, Harvard Law students, borrowing from Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals, and foreshadowing the Occupy movement of 2011, occupied the Harvard Law School’s dean’s office. The students were supporting Professor Derrick Bell’s demand that the law school hire professors on the basis of race.

One of the students “dressed in black” and occupying the dean’s office appears to be Michelle Obama (Harvard Law ’88). Here is a link to the grainy video. (lower right at about ten seconds in, wearing white Keds)

...

It is important to note that I had the opportunity to review all of the original Betamax videotapes in Boston where the video quality was significantly higher than the internet version. While there is some chance this is not Michelle trespassing and “occupying” the dean’s office for racial hiring preferences, the Betamax video version leaves very little doubt it is her. Perhaps someone in the mainstream media will ask the East Wing if Michelle Obama participated in a trespassing occupation of the Harvard Law School dean’s office to demand race-based hiring of professors.

BTW, what's with the bizarre quotation marks around “dressed in black” in the above blockquote?

Anyway, this is yet another example of all things old being new again. I have no idea if that's actually a young Michelle Obama in the video, but it wouldn't actually be news if it was. There were a number of articles from the 2008 campaign that already covered that ground, for example:
[Link: www.thedailybeast.com...]

Michelle Obama was never much interested in calling attention to herself. As an undergrad at Princeton in the 1980s, she was interested in social change, but didn't run for student government. Instead, she spent her free time running a literacy program for kids from the local neighborhoods. At Harvard Law, she took part in demonstrations demanding more minority students and professors. Yet unlike another more prominent Harvard Law student who would later take up the cause, she was not one to hold forth with high-flown oratory about the need for diversity. "When [Barack Obama] spoke, people got quiet and listened," recalls Prof. Randall Kennedy. "Michelle had a more modest, quieter, lower profile." Barack won election as president of the Law Review. Michelle put her energy into a less glamorous pursuit: recruiting black undergrads to Harvard Law from other schools. For her, politics wasn't so much about being inspirational as it was being practical—about getting something specific done, says Charles Ogletree, one of her professors. "She was not trying to get ahead."

Intelligence Report, Spring 2012, Issue Number: 145
The 'Patriot' Movement Explodes

The radical right grew explosively in 2011, the third such dramatic expansion in as many years. The growth was fueled by superheated fears generated by economic dislocation, a proliferation of demonizing conspiracy theories, the changing racial makeup of America, and the prospect of four more years under a black president who many on the far right view as an enemy to their country.

The number of hate groups counted by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) last year reached a total of 1,018, up slightly from the year before but continuing a trend of significant growth that is now more than a decade old. The truly stunning growth came in the antigovernment “Patriot” movement — conspiracy-minded groups that see the federal government as their primary enemy.

The Patriot movement first emerged in 1994, a response to what was seen as violent government repression of dissident groups at Ruby Ridge, Idaho, in 1992 and near Waco, Texas, in 1993, along with anger at gun control and the Democratic Clinton Administration in general. It peaked in 1996, a year after the Oklahoma City bombing, with 858 groups, then began to fade. By the turn of the millennium, the Patriot movement was reduced to fewer than 150 relatively inactive groups...

I have to run for the day, but this Breitbart website fiasco should remind all of us that one day we may not be here, hopefully not for a long while. A lot of mom and pop businesses don't survive passing on to their heirs. We all should have an updated last will, (control freaks can write their own obits) and if you own a business, you should assure some sort of leadership change if the worse happens. Charles, if something should (god forbid) happen to you, will LGF go on?
I certainly hope so.

220 Gus  Thu, Mar 8, 2012 12:05:04pm

And another thing! Used to be a trend to be a "radical" in college. Beer, smoke dope, sex, study, go to protests, join some radical groups, and get your degree. Then once you graduate you straighten up your act and start a career. In fact this is still a trend with most students. Whether they be on the left or the right. While there are fewer right wing radicals in college they're still there. If this is an example of Obama's radicalism it's certainly not surprising and isn't even close to extremism of any sorts.

If anyone is interested, I listened to the Ogletree lecture and I was right, the Breitbartians did edit the video to misrepresent what Ogletree was saying.

He was joking about a group of colleagues who looked much younger in the video being upset he found that particular segment after 'they', the colleagues worried about their aging, kept it hidden in 2008. It had nothing to do with hiding damning evidence of Obama having a relationship with Bell.
BTW, Obama never had any classes with Bell, according to Ogletree, so Obama may have made the introduction as a function of his position at the school (speculation on my part).

That works out to a staggering 755% growth in the three years ending last Dec. 31. Last year’s total was more than 400 groups higher than the prior all-time high, in 1996.

Are there a lot more racists in this country than I thought there were?

Probably a booming business in photocopying supplies, internet servers, and USB drives for the various groups to organize and send out their talking points. Probably good markets in a few other areas as a result as well.

One can be a believer, but still realized the purpose of a business is to conduct business. His followers think the goal is to preach the word of Breitbart now.

GOP strategist: Focus on economy can win back Latino, women voters

Yeah, cutting their services in the name of debt reduction and raising their taxes while you give companies tax breaks will completely distract them from the oppressive laws you've been attacking them with. Good call.

As the occasionally wise Grover Norquist pointed out, you can't win votes by telling people you're going to deport their mothers.

Go Figure… Michelle Obama Was an #Occupier For Racial Justice While at Harvard

Well, what do you know?
Who would have thought that when we elected Obama we got two agitators in one! In fact Michelle Obama was a young #occupier for racial justice while at Harvard, too… Just like Barack.

Can't have agitators in public office, where would the country be then? Oh that's right, our founding fathers were agitators for equal justice. We wouldn't have a fucking country without agitators.

See: Declaration of Independence for those radical agitators manifesto.
