Kids lucked out when I found the last copy of the Skylanders new game for the Wii in San Diego. They thought the game wasn't even coming out for the Wii and were disappointed, so it should be a real hit Christmas morning.

That's true but USB3 is compatible with USB2. The Firewire 400 (1394) bus is a better choice than USB2 if you have the port - it's significantly faster.

I have several external drive enclosures with Firewire 800, which is an even better choice, but not very common except on Macs.

Bleh, being broke sucks.

Five days until payday, the battery in my car is about to give up the ghost, and the car payment and other bills are coming up. I'd love to get this internal drive for my media server at this price, but it looks like I'm gonna miss the boat on it.

And I haven't even started Christmas shopping or have gotten my mom a birthday present (it's on the 28th) yet.

Yes, of course, USB3 is fantabulous for backwards compatability. It works, even if it seems slower than frozen dog poop. But if you can get FW800 on the laptop and USB3 on the workstation... let's just say it's a very nice and worthwhile bonus.

I've actually had some trouble with USB-2 devices on my USB-3 MacPro 15" Retina.

I have a USB Audio interface from Tascam that only works if I plug it into a hub. Not sure whose fault it is.

The most important concepts in environmentalism — bio-diversity, eco-systems, and the inter-dependence of species — rest on the clear “natural law” presupposition (central to Christianity as well) that there is an existing order in nature that should be protected by human beings. We also share a distrust of the corporate giants whose myopic pursuit of ever greater profits represents the greatest threat to the environment.

If we craft an appeal based on our common preference for the “natural” over the “artificial,” and frame this as a logical basis for deciding social policy in every area, we suddenly have a powerful unifying theme for our entire slate that could win every intellectually honest environmentalist to our side: the natural value of life vs the unnatural termination of unborn babies, natural marriage vs. un-natural homosexual unions, God-given liberty vs. man-made Statism, commerce among real persons vs. that with artificial corporate “persons,” natural foods vs. genetic experiments, a return to family farms and rejection of agri-business, a return to natural remedies and rejection of Big Pharma, etc..

Its as simple as that apparently.

I just won't touch Seagate drives anymore. With a dismal 1 year warranty and a high failure rate, this might be ok for a "junk" drive, but I'd never again store anything important on these things. That being said, my 10+ year old Seagate IDE drive is still running like a champ.

I just did a new build with a de-lidded 3770K and a Crucial m4 SSD. SSD really is legit. Maybe in a few years, the capacity/$ ratio will be better.

I hear you - Seagate's reputation with these low-end drives isn't very good. But at $100 for 3 TB, they're perfect for a RAID array - lots of storage, very cheap, easily swapped out if they fail.

I got a couple to use in a RAID setup I'm putting together, we'll see how reliable they are.
