Cliff Kincaid: The GOP Needs to Emulate Violent British Fascist Group EDL

Wingnut advocates for neo-Nazi thugs
Wingnuts • Views: 26,603

Here we go, folks. The American right wing is starting to push violent, overtly fascist European groups as models for the conservative movement.

For once, the paranoid obsession behind this big idea isn’t anti-Muslim bigotry (but it isn’t far away, see below); Cliff Kincaid of “Accuracy in Media,” the politically influential extreme right wing organization behind the Newsbusters website, says the mainstream Republican Party is being contaminated with teh ghey:

Here in the U.S., former Republican National Committee Chairman Ken Mehlman took to the pages of The Wall Street Journal on November 21 to make the ‘conservative case’ for backing gay marriage. But there can be no ‘conservative case’ for gay marriage, unless the term ‘conservative’ is redefined as the British Conservative leaders are trying to do.

[…]

According to this logic, American conservatives should applaud the fact that, on December 1, the first same-sex couple was ‘married’ in the West Point Cadet Chapel of our nation’s military academy. This is a consequence of Obama’s gays-in-the-military policy.

The real lesson from what is happening in Britain is that if the Republicans go down this road, conservatives will revolt and the GOP will suffer an even more significant decline than we saw on November 6, when a number of social conservatives sat out the election. Surrender could also lead to more persecution of social conservatives.

Social conservatives are “persecuted?” Who knew?

In the face of all this homosexuality advancing like an inexorable tide, persecuting all wingnuts in its path with its superior fashion sense, Kincaid suggests that the best way forward for the Republican Party is to take a page from the book of the overtly fascist English Defence League. Hey, great idea! Where do you think he got it from?

This British Conservative Party has watered down traditional conservatism to such an extent that some conservatives have formed an alternative, the English Defense League (EDL), which has spawned the British Freedom Party.

This group has been strongly attacked in the media, here and abroad, as “far-right” or worse. But I had the opportunity to meet their leaders, Kevin Carroll and Tommy Robinson, at the 9/11 conference in New York City sponsored by Pamela Geller and Robert Spencer which was designed in part to organize resistance to global Islam and safeguard our right of free speech against the advance of Sharia, or Islamic law. You can watch the speeches by Carroll and Robinson and draw your own conclusions. Carroll and Robinson want a patriotic alternative to the British Conservative Party that will promote traditional values.

American conservatives and their media should take a hard look at what is really happening in Britain. We had to turn to a relatively new conservative channel in Canada, Sun TV, for important news and information about how Carroll and Robinson and their supporters are being targeted by the “conservative” government there. Carroll was actually imprisoned for exercising his political rights. Robinson is still in prison on charges that he entered the United States illegally and has sent Pamela Geller a letter about his plight, which is published on her website.

For reference, here are some images of the people Spencer and Geller have been enthusiastically supporting for years, and who Cliff Kincaid considers excellent right wing role models. (Click to enlarge.)

And here’s a video of EDL thugs at an anti-Muslim demonstration, attacking a local restaurant:

Nope, goes against their belief that one has a choice about their sexuality.

But apparently someone can be born Christian or Muslim.

Cliff Kincaid's heroes:

EDL leader Joel Titus banned from every football ground

A leading member of the English Defence League banned from every football ground in the country has been spotted heading for Arsenal matches, the Old Bailey heard.

Joel Titus, 21, was banned from football after he led a mass brawl outside Liverpool Street station more than two years ago.

[...]

But he has dodged the ban by switching allegiance to Arsenal and joining fellow hooligans in pubs, stations and on supporters coaches, the court was told.

The leader of the youth wing of the EDL has also moved to Highbury to be closer to Arsenal's Emirates Stadium.

[...]

Hooligans.

Let me put on my wingnut hat.

America is a Christian nation, graced by and protected by God through his Son. But God will smite America if it yields to this abominable behavior. He did so to Sodom and Gomorrah. Being God's chosen nation will not protect it, either. When Israel turned its face from him He destroyed that nation (see Hosea and 2 Kings among others).

That Bible tells us, in both the Old and New testament, that a man lying with a man is one of the worst of sins, punishable by death. Further the Bible informs us that turning a blind eye to sin is like unto commission of the sin itself.

If tolerating homosexualism is bad, letting them ape holy matrimony is utmost blasphemy. And allowing it to happen will doom us all regardless of the pious few who object.

Yeah, I've listened to them a few times.

Goldberg engaged in a long-winded cop-out, arguing that any minority outreach by the GOP will be labeled "racism," so there's no point to doing so. That minorities instead must be brought around to "understand" that Democrats are lying to them about the GOP.

Er, not quite. It's perfectly legal to own a registered and transferable fully automatic "machine gun". Just fill out the paperwork, pay for your tax stamp and have your local chief LEO sign off on it. Expensive toys but not illegal in most states (Washington state, forex does ban them. Wisconsin does not.)

AR-15 = Armalite 15. That was the company Gene Stoner worked for when designed the prototype of the M16 that would later be mass produced by Colt. That it the military version is, in fact, an assault rifle is actually co-incidence.

Right. Tommy Robinson, oops, I mean the EDL. Ol' Tommy is still in jail awaiting trial on January 2013.

Stephen Yaxley-Lennon (born 27 November 1982), also known by the pseudonym Tommy Robinson

Arrests

Lennon was arrested after an EDL demonstration in Tower Hamlets, as he had been banned from attending the demonstration. After his arrest, Lennon began a hunger strike in custody in Bedford Prison, saying he was a "political prisoner of the state" and refused to eat what he believed was halal meat. A local paper reported that Bedford Prison sources said the hunger strike lasted less than 24 hours. A handful of EDL supporters protested outside the prison in support of Lennon during his incarceration, peaking in a turnout of 100 protesters on 10 September. Lennon was released from prison on 12 September.

On 29 September 2011 he was convicted of common assault after headbutting a man who had attacked him with a razor at a rally in Blackburn in April that year. The judge stated that a custodial sentence could not be ruled out.

On 8 November 2011, Lennon held a protest against the ban on wearing a poppy for the England team on the rooftop of the FIFA building in Zurich. He was fined £3000 and jailed for three days.

On 20 October 2012, Lennon was arrested for an alleged assault.

On 22 October 2012, Lennon appeared at Westminster magistrates' court charged with using someone else's passport to travel to the United States in September 2012 ("possession of a false identity document with improper intention"). He was remanded in custody until he is due to appear in court in January 2013.

Assault

According to Robinson he was assaulted on 22 December 2011 after pulling over his car as another car flashed its lights at him. He claimed that a group of three men attacked and beat him, until being stopped by the arrival of a 'good Samaritan'. Robinson said that the attackers were of Asian appearance. A CT scan revealed a "blemish to the brain".

I was racking my brain when I saw Kincaid's name earlier, trying to remember where I've seen it. Oh, yes. The Gulag. It seems to be a rumpus room of sorts for those who have persecution complexes too big for the Twitter Gulag.

Of course, he also has a profile at SPLC.

44 freetoken  Tue, Dec 11, 2012 3:24:27pm

I don't know why Kincaid might think his suggestion is novel, when the GOP has been heading in that direction for quite some time. For example, one of the best known of all Republican pundits, Pat Buchanan, published just today:

The Winter of Conservative Discontent

[...]

The crisis of the GOP today is demographic, cultural and political.

Demographically, people of color are nearing 40 percent of the U.S. population and 30 percent of the electorate. These folks -- 85 to 90 percent of all immigrants, legal and illegal -- are growing in number. And in 2012, people of color voted for Obama 4 to 1.

[...]

BROWN PEOPLE!!!

Oh yes, by implication of Pat's statement, evidently if one is not "white" one must be an immigrant, where as non-"people of color" aka white must have what - sprung from the grounds of North America?

He goes on:

Culturally, the causes of the 1960s' revolutions -- no-fault divorce, legalized drugs, "reproductive rights," teenage access to birth control, gay rights and gay marriage -- have either been embraced or become acceptable to most of America's young.

As a result of the sexual revolution promoted by the counterculture of the 1960s, the dominant culture today, 40 percent of all births in the United States are now to single moms.

With no husband, these women look to government to help feed, house, educate, medicate and provide income support for themselves and their children. For sustenance and the survival of their families, they depend on that same Big Government that Republicans denounce at their rallies.

As to the GOP's strongest appeal -- we are the party that will cut taxes -- half the country does not pay income taxes, and the GOP is about to surrender to Obama even on the tax front.

[...]

Buchanan's GOP was EDL before there was an EDL.

re: #42 Turkey Jihad

Thanks for the clarification. To be honest, I'm really surprised that they are legal in some states.

Why not? They're highly regulated and extremely expensive. Usually people who spend $5,000 (M2 carbine) through $150,000 (M2HB) to even higher (see that Stg-44 talked about several times today) are very careful with their toys. A bigger problem is that there are a relative handful of places you cans safely use them.

Which leads to the fact that they are Not good urban toys and that's the real problem - urban folks vs rural folks on guns is much more real than as a pure left vs right issue.

Nope, goes against their belief that one has a choice about their sexuality.

But apparently someone can be born Christian or Muslim.

I never understood how the difference matters to anti-gay positions. Homosexuality is something people are born with? Then discriminating based on it is absolutely no different than discrimination based on color was pre-1960. Homosexuality is a choice? Then those people that bleat that this country is all about freedoms for themselves have to acknowledge that others have the freedom to make choices they wouldn't.

At least, that's assuming anti-gay arguments are made with logical consistency. But they aren't based on laws and reason, only feelings and beliefs.

The numbers, except for the one about the number such guns used illegally, are approximate, to be clear. i only have read details of one of the cases of such a weapon being used in lawful self-defense. That case was a businessman/gun collector who had to use an AC-556 (full-auto Mini-14) to stop an attack by an angry trio of bikers. He ended up having to kill the one who would not stop after warning shots were fired, but the case against him was dismissed after the prosecution rested. The judge found that even if everything the prosecutor had presented was true, there was still nothing to show that the shooting was anything other than self defense.

If you read the forums these EDL guys post to there is all this shit about Wotan and their Norse roots and how Christianity destroyed their great warrior culture and made them weak. Yes they are Nazis and they are very open about it, they have even adopted Hitler's fetish for the Norse warrior myths. There is also a lot of cross posting to Stormfront going on because "our" forums are so much bigger than theirs in both traffic and membership.

These people are very much like our own white supremacists only that more of them have moved beyond simple racism and mutterings about "white power" to full blown Nazism. :(

LOL what? Murder harms someone, who isn't willing to be harmed. Homosexuality harms no one and both parties consent to it.

Speaking of guns, the EDL type on the right in the second picture is holding a "Schmeisser" MP-40 submachine gun, an iconic German weapon from the World War 2 period. The other one has a more modern MP-5. Unless these are de-activated show pieces or non-functioning replicas, they are massively illegal in the UK. They are illegal even here without the special license mentioned above or a semi-auto conversion.

The MP-40 is called a "Schmeisser", though neither Louis Schmeisser nor his son Hugo played any role in its design.

I expect the racist right to increase their visibility as their rising frustration is overcoming their previous collective strategy of guising their racism with other memes (STATES RIGHTS!! etc.)

Its interesting to see how we still seem to be fighting the Civil War. 72% of Romney's electoral votes come from the 18 jurisdictions (including Oklahoma) where slavery was legal in 1860, and 72% of the President's electoral votes come from the free states in 1860.

Hence the quote marks.

The MP 40 was often called the "Schmeisser" by the Allies, after weapons designer Hugo Schmeisser. Schmeisser had designed the MP 18, which was the first mass-produced submachine gun, and saw extensive service at the end of the First World War. He did not, however, design the MP 40,[5] although he held a patent on the magazine. He later designed the MP 41, which was an MP 40 with a wooden rifle stock and a selector, identical to those found on the earlier MP 28 submachine gun. The MP 41 was not introduced as a service weapon with the German Army, but saw limited use with some SS and police units. They were also exported to Germany's ally, Romania.

Hence the quote marks.

It was actually Louis Schmeisser who designed the MP-18. Hugo Schmeisser was his son. Hugo did design a modification to the MP-18, one which did away with the 32-round 'snail' magazine also used by the Lugar pistol is favor of a more compact and reliable 20-round box magazine.

Strictly speaking, I'm not Pacific Northwest, but Inland Northwest. Spokane's Riverpark Square is my favorite place downtown; it's got a range of places from casual to fancy, it architecturally fits in with the rest of the downtown area, and its connected to skybridge network so you can walk from the STA bus station to the mall and then through Nordstrom's into the Public Library, without ever going outside.

re: #20 Turkey Jihad

Exactly. I'm not even into guns, and 1.) You can only buy machine guns illegally, and 2.) "AR" stands for "assault rifle."

AR stands for Armalite Receiver. That's their naming convention for all firearms from day one, when they were making the the AR-7 .22lr, which is now sold as the Henry Survival Rifle. They give their pistols AR designations. The only non AR they sell now is the M-15, which is a generic name because they sold the "AR-15" designation to Colt.
