Texas State GOP Rep. Sanford Says Pro-Choice Demonstrators Are Chanting “Hail Satan”

Meanwhile, Texas State Republican Rep. Scott Sanford says pro-choice demonstrators at the State legislature are chanting “Hail Satan,” and forming human pentagrams. Yes, really.

UPDATE at 7/3/13 9:55:01 am

You may notice that Sanford’s tweets no longer show up as embedded tweets — that’s because he deleted them. (But we still have the text.)

Is there some sort of competition going on that I’m unaware of? Are Republican run states competing to see who can elect the most batshit crazy legislators into office and have them taken seriously?

Well, I’ve heard and heard of people chanting such things as a way to mock obnoxiously loud and hostile street preachers, and even if this happened that’s all it is here.

Scott, they aren’t praising Satan; They’re telling you to fuck off!

I can’t believe this kind of insanity is actually happening in public life in the twenty-first century. I’ve been watching public discourse and politics for over 50 years. Nothing in my experience even comes close to what we have seen recently from the GOP and its lunatic mainstream.

I’ve left instructions that, should I meet my demise in 2 or less pieces, I wish to be buried in a pine box in a hole in the ground. No preservatives, no putting makeup on me to give some semblance of life. Just dump me in the box, drop it in the hole, cover it up, and go on with life. Only stipulation to all this is I require “Another One Bites The Dust” played at least once during the funeral.

36 Shiplord Kirel  Tue, Jul 2, 2013 8:48:26pm

Back in the 60s, seriously stoned hippies and radical agitators might have said something this crazy in a political context, but none of them ever got close to holding public office.
If Scott had said this back in the 50s, his colleagues would have sat there in stunned amazement for a couple of minutes, then hustled him out the door for a serious heart to heart discussion. This would be followed in a couple of days by a terse announcement that the offender was suffering from job related fatigue and would be taking some time off to rest.

Looks like one of the pro-lifers was taking a video of the group singing Amazing Grace; you can hear people chanting and whistling, trying to be louder than the singers, but no audible detail. A young woman (maybe student age) walks up into camera view, sarcastically says “Hail Satan” and sticks her tongue out.

re: #46 Dark_Falcon

Well, I don’t vote for such people, actually. Those sorts of people tend not to get nominated where I live, so I don’t face that issue.

Not a reason not to care, and you do face the issue. Your last Republican candidate for governor in Illinois, Bob Brady.

Abortion

Bill Brady self-identifies as pro-life. He supports a ban on all abortions, including in cases of rape and incest. He makes an exception and allows abortion when a mother’s life is at risk.[19][20][21] He has also backed legislation allowing pharmacists refuse to dispense emergency contraception.[22]

Same-sex marriage

A week after winning the Republican primary, Brady introduced a proposed state constitutional amendment on February 10, 2010[23] defining marriage as between “one man and one woman”.[24][25][26][27] The proposed constitutional amendment would also deny validity and recognition to any “uniting of persons of the same sex in a civil union, domestic partnership, or other similar same sex relationship.”[27] Although Brady was originally the main sponsor of the amendment, its chief sponsor is now Illinois State Senator John O. Jones, who became co-sponsor with Brady the week following its submission.[28] Brady has stated that he is “concerned that activist judges could overturn our current law protecting this institution”.[18] Brady has also stated his opposition to civil unions for gay couples on more than one occasion.[29]

Education

Brady supports replacing the Illinois State Board of Education with a smaller agency that receives half of the current $80 million funding, or $40 million.[10][11]
Brady believes that intelligent design, which he has described as “in other words, teaching the Bible”, should be taught in public schools, saying that “we should teach the Bible in our schools. One of the basic, fundamental voids we have in our school system is bringing God into the system.” In a follow-up interview, he explained: “I certainly believe that local school boards should have the opportunity to teach kids about the Bible, just as they ought to be able to teach them about the Qur’an.” He added: “I believe in school prayer. I think that local school boards should be able to dictate that they start the day with prayer.”[12][13]

Please, don’t feign ignorance.

I last saw him when I was eight years old. I am looking forward to a reunion if such a thing is possible (though not too soon).

Egypt’s army ‘ready to die’ to protect against ‘any terrorist, radical or fool’

Egypt’s high command said on Wednesday the army was ready to die to defend Egypt’s people against terrorists and fools, in a response to Islamist President Mohamed Mursi that was headlined “The Final Hours”.

The post on the official Facebook page of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF), headed by armed forces chief General Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, said: “We swear to God that we will sacrifice even our blood for Egypt and its people, to defend them against any terrorist, radical or fool.”

Issued three hours after Mursi appeared on television to reject an ultimatum from Sisi that he share power with his opponents or face a military solution by 10:00 a.m. EDT (1500 GMT), a military source said the statement made clear that the armed forces would not abandon their demands.

Think we all know how this works at this point, that these laws are about short and long term. Short term, their goal is to effectively ban abortion within state borders by making it impossible for them to operate. Long term is about getting one of these cockamamie laws before SCOTUS in the hopes that the new conservative majority will finally help them undo RvW and make abortion once again a “states rights” issue. Or, in their wildest of dreams, allowing the federal government to pass a national abortion ban.

111 BongCrodny  Tue, Jul 2, 2013 9:46:02pm

From the Dallas Morning News, April 25, 2012:

Scott Sanford Endorsement

Both Republicans vying to succeed Ken Paxton in Collin County’s Texas House District 70 are political novices. Both are McKinney residents with backgrounds in business and the ministry, and both would be reliably conservative votes in Austin.

Either would have an extremely steep learning curve in Austin, though Scott Sanford, 48, strikes us as a bit better prepared and informed than Bracy Wilson, 37, on certain policy questions.

Okay, let me see if I’ve got this right: In the 2012 election, Scott Sanford was considered the smart one.

I feel sooooo much better knowing that.

The New Yorker takes down the head IDiot’s latest book:

DOUBTING “DARWIN’S DOUBT”

[…]

Scientific readers will likely find that “Darwin’s Doubt” has an inspired-by-true-events feel: a few elements are recognizable, but the story makes no sense to anyone who was there. […]

The book’s best, most honest moments come in the concluding chapter, in which Meyer travels to see the famous Burgess Shale in person. His son goes ahead on the trail but then suddenly freezes, stricken with vertigo after peering down the mountainside. Meyer likens his son’s paralysis to modernity’s despair at materialism, its shock at the prospect that the universe is utterly indifferent. Meyer writes frankly, saying that his quest is to give people back their sense of meaning and purpose. Here, at last, Meyer is not pretending to be a scientist.

Forgive me Father, For I have sinned..
I said I’d never do Facebook but after many years of pressure from my family I relented 3 days ago..Ok you Facebook people..What is up?
So I want to keep contact with family and a few friends.. That is all..
Did I know how many contacts over the years every fricking body on Facebook planet has? Everybody knows everybody, and if they don’t they will soon. So now I get friend requests of one of my kids friends grandma who knew the family when we grew up..All of a sudden there are friends of friends and old family friends that I forgot about but apparently Facebook didn’t..And the requests pour in from Gawd knows who..
but here is the real issue..
How the fuck do you say no to a friend request from a friends grandmother who lives on Facebook? ( Is every senior citizen in America live on FB? ) How the fuck can you reject a friend of a distant cousin? LOL
It’s stupid funny..
I now have to sit down and adjust all my privacy settings in Facebook..
For a limited time I am accepting all friend requests just to stop the dinging bell from Outlook in the background.. My luck by Saturday I will have accepted Pam Geller as friend and never realize it.
Forgive me Father for I have sinned…

i make a little coin on the side selling software. usually my customers pay through the paypal, altho occasionally some stodgy companies ask for invoices and issue me a paper check

so the other week i get an email that looks to be a legitimate contact from a major 3rd party retailer, saying one of their customers wants to buy my product through them - which would make sense, since their website lists hundreds of commercial s.w. products. hey, maybe i can get my product listed there too!

so here’s the thing: the registration form he sends me asks for my company bank account number & routing number

i sent him back all the company registration and product information, but i couldn’t get myself to send along my bank account information, no matter how legit his inquiry looks. i just wrote that they wouldn’t need it since they could just buy my product the normal way through paypal or send me a check

he didn’t reply - i don’t know if i evaded a scam or suspicioned myself out of a sale…

All Hail Koch!!!

Scott Walker among signers of Koch-backed ‘No Climate Tax Pledge’

You’ve no doubt heard about Grover Norquist’s “Taxpayer Protection Pledge.” Well, there’s a new pledge in town, and several Wisconsin conservatives have signed on.

This pledge is called the “No Climate Tax Pledge,” but it might as well be called the “Koch Brothers Protection Pledge,” since it was devised by a group co-founded and backed by the billionaire brothers whose companies, according to the EPA, emitted over 24 million tons of carbon dioxide in 2011.

Signers of the pledge, now numbering 411, promise to “oppose any legislation relating to climate change that includes a net increase in government revenue” — in other words, no legislation on climate change without an equivalent amount of tax cuts. They include one U.S. senator from Wisconsin, three House members, four members of the state Senate, and four members of the Assembly — as well as Gov. Scott Walker and Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch.

Republican answer: “You betcha!”

Consider the fact that these GOP assholes want to ban all abortions, and ban birth control. Then, once a child is born, they’d ALSO cut early child education, Head Start, school lunch programs for needy kids, WIC and Medicaid.

Basically, they want to force women to have babies then have the right to get pissed when a woman can’t afford to raise that child.

Adams threw Stockman a hardball, asking the Texas congressman whether Texas has become the “headquarters of liberty for America.” The congressman responded that this is indeed the case and that his state “is becoming the last bastion” of freedom in the country.

He added that New Hampshire was once such a state, until freedom-hating people from Massachusetts moved there and ruined it: “New Hampshire used to be that way but it seemed like everybody from Massachusetts moved there and they loved the freedom in New Hampshire and they immediately voted in people who hated freedom.”

The one bright spot is that I’ve seen people I know — even people who vote Republican — suddenly having their eyes opened to what the GOP is really like here in Texas. They watched all the dirty tricks during the filibuster. They saw the way the Republicans tried to usurp democracy and change the time stamps. They’ve seen the hateful comments and nastiness that the Republicans have thrown at the peaceful protesters, and they’re not happy.

If anything good comes out of this disaster, I hope that more and more people realize the fanatics we are dealing with in this state, and that they try to vote them out, or at least move this state closer to purple, if not blue.

For all of you thinking that the women of Texas will rise up and overpower the patriarchal theocracy, remember this: At the time of the Suffragettes, in the US, there were a non-trivial portion of women who did not believe in the cause.

It took 50 years from the time the first state gave women the vote until it was national via a ratified Constitutional amendment.

re: #194 freetoken

Women and Blacks Voting … in the 18th Century

Only four of the original 13 states prohibited blacks from voting, and only five prohibited women from voting. Up until 1820, freed black men in Massachusetts, Vermont, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, and Maine had the same voting rights as whites.

New Jersey’s constitution not only did not bar women from participating in elections, in 1790 it specifically allowed women to vote. But when you increase the number of eligible voters, you sadly also increase the amount of voter fraud. And no, it wasn’t the women and blacks getting carried away and ruining the esteemed process for whitey: As soon as women and black men could vote, white guys started showing up at the polls dressed in drag and black face so they could cast their vote twice.

Seeing this problem caused solely by white men dressing up in costumes, the legislature did the only logical thing: In 1807, they repealed the vote for both women and blacks. White guys nationwide chuckled at the irony, then presumably went back to their old voter fraud practice of switching mustaches and hats while doing funny accents.

This theocon rage we’re seeing over abortion is, I propose, part of a general froth that has started to overflow due to the USSC rulings on Prop 8 and DOMA.

Hard religious conservatives are now using the “M” word - martyrdom. They really think that they are going into some horrible persecution. E.g.:

This will force a major adjustment in conservative Christian stance toward America. We’ve fooled ourselves for decades into believing that Christian America was derailed recently and by a small elite. It’s tough medicine to realize that principles inimical to traditional Christian morals are now deeply embedded in our laws, institutions and culture. The only America that actually exists is one in which “marriage” includes same-sex couples and women have a Constitutional right to kill their babies. To be faithful, Christian witness must be witness against America. [emph. in original]

God has his winnowing fork in his hand, and he’s ready to use it. There’s likely to be a lot of chaff, blown away like mist. But there will be a harvest. We’re being sent into an oven, but Jesus will crush the grain of the harvest so that, baked in the fire of the Spirit, it will become bread for the life of the world.

How to decide, though? Spoiled by choice.

Especially since the GOP tends to memetically transfer its idiocy. So even though Romney was only sneakily alluding to the birther shit, just because he was being subtle doesn’t mean he wasn’t saying something horrifically stupid when he played with that.

Recall what Judge Ruth Ginsburg was saying about Roe v Wade: it was too easy and sweeping a victory: people quickly came to take it for granted.

We can thank Texas, I guess, for reminding us that we have to get out and fight to maintain these rights against a very active counter-movement.

i make a little coin on the side selling software. usually my customers pay through the paypal, altho occasionally some stodgy companies ask for invoices and issue me a paper check

so here’s the thing: the registration form he sends me asks for my company bank account number & routing number

i sent him back all the company registration and product information, but i couldn’t get myself to send along my bank account information, no matter how legit his inquiry looks. i just wrote that they wouldn’t need it since they could just buy my product the normal way through paypal or send me a check

But Satan did not save him when he got indicted for snorting cocaine and abusing teenage “altar virgins.”

The reason that I did not get an inheritance from my grandmother is that this asshole spent it all on Satan and then on his legal defense to stay out of jail.

So the Guardian is reporting this:

Morsi offered a series of concessions in a four-hour meeting with General Abdul Fatah al-Sisi on Tuesday, a Muslim Brotherhood source told the Guardian’s David Hearst.

All the concession were rejected, the source said. David writes:

With the caveat that this is information which can not be cross-checked with the other parties to the discussion, my understanding is that President Morsi offered the following political concessions:

The formation of a national government representing all parties
The formation of a neutral committee to change the constitution
A call on the constitutional council to speed up the law on parliamentary elections.
A new attorney general (he has already gone)
Obliques hints that if a plan was put to him to hold a referendum on his presidency, he would agree to it.

This package was rejected.

Maybe it’s just fallout from the Snowden thing, but I’m having a hard time taking the Guardian seriously, and even more so since the source is from the Muslim Brotherhood.

When the Egyptian military wants you gone, you’re gone. I’m not sure what Morsi did to raise the ire of the military leaders, but they’re clearly not willing to give Morsi any slack at all - or to save his presidency. They want a caretaker government and new elections, and that’s what they’re going to expect/demand.

The NYT is reporting that even ElBaraedi, who had previously criticized the military’s rule in the runup to the elections that brought Morsi to power, is now siding with the military. I’m not particularly surprised by the shifting allegiances and that the economic situation has led all but Brotherhood supporters to demand the ouster, but the military’s ire seems to be running particularly deep.

There’s more going on behind the scenes than is being made public. Morsi must have done something to really piss off the generals that they’re now intervening on behalf of the opposition.

There’s more going on behind the scenes than is being made public. Morsi must have done something to really piss off the generals that they’re now intervening on behalf of the opposition.

The Irish Times has an article on this:

Army concern about the way President Mohamed Morsi was governing Egypt reached tipping point when the head of state attended a rally packed with hardline fellow Islamists calling for holy war in Syria, military sources have said.

At the June 15th rally, Sunni Muslim clerics used the word “infidels” to denounce both the Shias fighting to protect Syrian president Bashar al-Assad and the non-Islamists that oppose Mr Morsi at home.

Mr Morsi himself called for foreign intervention in Syria against Mr Assad, leading to a veiled rebuke from the army, which issued an apparently bland but sharp-edged statement the next day stressing that its only role was guarding Egypt’s borders.

“The armed forces were very alarmed by the Syrian conference at a time the state was going through a major political crisis,” said one officer, whose comments reflected remarks made privately by other army staff. He was speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not permitted to talk to the media.

Oh, and about that girl who needed lung transplants.

She’s now had two sets of lungs transplanted - the first transplant failed and she had a second set transplanted just days later. That meant that at least two people died so she could have a functioning set of lungs (and at least one other person on the UNOS list could have died while waiting for a set of lungs that was bumped down on the priority list because there’s a perpetual shortage for organs requiring the priority lists in the first place).

Then, there’s reports she’s had complications stemming from the surgeries, including the need for further surgery to repair her diaphragm.

I wish her well and hope she makes the most of her second and third chances, but all of the hype and ire focused on HHS and the Administration is completely missing the point. Without sufficient donors, people are going to die waiting for organs. If not this girl, then someone’s father, grandfather, wife, son, daughter, cousin, or friend, etc.

It’s the organ shortage that people should be looking to resolve, not gaming the priority list because Twitter said so. /rant off

You should ask. The legit reason for account number and routing number is electronic deposit.

Actually what you should do is talk to an attorney who specializes in business contracts. Yes, it’s going to cost you a few hundred dollars. But if you’re not using an attorney to review it then you’re the half-armed person at a battle of wits. There may be lots of innocuous appearing phrases that rob you blind when stacked together.

My unfortunate take on the Egypt situation is two-fold:
1. The MB looks like they think they can “win” a confrontation with the military. That will probably end in bloodshed and possibly a lot more instability down the line.

2. I have my doubts the Egyptian citizenry is going to have patience with any government in the future that does not start to deliver visible social and economic improvement quickly. And I am not sure that any government can given Egypt’s resources and population demographics. So what we might be seeing is just the next iteration of a cycle of mass protests bringing governments down after a year or so in office. And I am not sure the military will view that as a bad thing since constant turnover like that will keep them essentially in control.

256 efuseakay  Wed, Jul 3, 2013 6:24:12am

re: #246 Feline Fearless Leader

Me thinks when the MB loses this fight and they start using AQ tactics, most of Egypt will end up missing Mubarak.

How many WH tours would there have been if House GOPers hadn’t carried out 37 votes on repealing Obamacare (knowing full well that it wouldn’t ever get enacted while Democrats control the WH and Senate)? /half joking

All that nonsense ignores how the federal budget works, how the sequester operates, and what kind of freedom agencies have to mitigate the effects (the moment that the sequester began affecting flights, Congress moved to act to give the FAA the ability to shift money around to keep the flights moving).

The longer the sequester operates, the more effects will become pronounced - especially at areas where the public interacts with the agency. For instance, NPS has fewer sessions, closes areas earlier, conducts fewer presentations, hires fewer summer workers, does fewer repairs to maintain assets, etc.

But as you say, anything and everything is used to attack the Administration, no matter how obstructionist the GOP is.

Same deal with the student loan rate hike. GOPers are claiming that the Democrats are blocking and obstructionist when they just passed their version of student loan relief. Never mind that the Senate and WH have versions, and that it would require conferencing to resolve differences.

And when the Administration extends the deadline for the employer mandate, the GOP response is to demand repeal of the entirety of the PPACA, not fixing those parts that actually do need to be fixed.

Obstructionism - it’s the O in GOP. The Government Obstructionist Party.

You’d think that the budget process is something any kid who’s taken a civics class should know. The president has virtually no influence over the budget, besides the submission of a budget proposal that indicates cuts he wishes to make and spending he wishes to create/increase, and whether or not he signs the budget Congress passes. He has no vote in Congress, he has no position on any of the committees involved in writing the budget, and until somebody finds a way to make the line item veto constitutional, he has no option to address spending in the final budget he does not agree with other than to simply veto the entire budget.

Yet still, day in and day out, he’s blamed for spending Congress passes and cuts that they impose.

Was this more an issue of landing than overflight?

npr.org

However it’s still unclear whether European countries did block the plane and, if so, why. French, Spanish and Portuguese officials all said Wednesday the plane was allowed to cross their territory.

Spain’s foreign ministry said in a statement Wednesday that the country on Tuesday authorized Morales’ plane to fly within its airspace and to make a refueling stop in the Canary Islands, and gave the authorization again on Wednesday morning after Bolivian authorities repeated the request.

The Portuguese Foreign Ministry said in a written statement Wednesday that Portugal had granted permission for the plane to fly through Portuguese air space but declined Bolivia’s request for a refueling stop in Lisbon due to unspecified technical reasons.

In Vienna, an official said that Morales’ aircraft asked controllers at Vienna airport to land because there was “no clear indication” that the plane had enough fuel to continue on its journey. The official, who demanded anonymity because he was not authorized to go public with the information, said Austrian authorities could not comment on whether the plane was denied overflights by other countries.

Maybe what was actually going on here was a number of EU countries desperately didn’t want even the slightest risk of Snowden disembarking into their countries and requesting asylum?

Mornin’ Lizards

So, pondering 150 years since Gettysburg, I recall visiting the site 3 years ago. One thing that makes me realize how much progress we’ve made as a country (despite resistance from the GOP) is that the two states with the largest monuments on the Confederate side, Virginia and North Carolina, both voted for a black man for president in 2008.

Also, you see far, far more American flags planted by monuments on the Union side (particularly the 20th Maine markers) than you see Confederate flags on the other side. Again, despite the loud, obnoxious voices of a few, it appears most Americans who visit Gettysburg know who was in the right in that war.

Egypt’s Republican Guards are in control of the state television offices, not regular army units as was reported elsewhere, the Guardian’s Patrick Kingsley says.

Although an elite unit of the Egyptian army, the Republican Guards are nominally under the control of President Morsi and are responsible for, among other things, securing government locations in Cairo, meaning that the television station is likely not under army control after all.

We have a deadthread analyst:

357 Weet  Wed, Jul 3, 2013 7:57:48am

I watched the entire proceeding in Austin yesterday. I had friends there but they didn’t get to speak. A few notes:

The House State Affairs Committee mostly had the witnesses speak in rotation, one FOR the bill, then one AGAINST, even there were many more people signed up to speak AGAINST the bill. For the first few hours, the committee ‘accidentally’ let more people speak FOR the bill.

The Texas Hospital Association sent their representative to oppose the bill due to Section 2 of House Bill 2, which requires the physician to have admitting privileges at a hospital within 30 miles. There should be an ‘alternative agreement’ clause, but the bill does not have that. This part of the bill will probably result in an injunction in the courts.

There were many intelligent statements made by the Pro-Choice individuals. As for those supporting the bill, it was a mixture of religious fanatics, women crying with stories of regretting their abortion (and some claiming they were ‘forced’ to have an abortion), and some unstable and somewhat scary men. Lots of dumbasses.

Here’s a good chart of the current abortion laws in each state.
State by state abortion law chart

There are so many facts, but I’ll close with this one. Plastic Surgery kills 50 times more people than abortion (there were 12 deaths nationwide in 2008 from abortion, which was higher than most years.) Yet Texas does not require Plastic Surgery to be performed in an ambulatory surgical center, but this bill requires it for abortions. “We’re only making medicine safer for women.”

All of Lt. Gov Dewhurst’s tweets in recent weeks have been anti-abortion. You may have seen this one before, but it’s important, as it is his admittance that he wants to close clinics. The other Republicans continuously lie and say that this is not the objective.

14 million, which is about 15% of the population. On Chris Hayes last night, he was saying this is the largest demonstration in human history. I wanted to argue, but… I couldn’t think of anything. We have all this technology, let’s use it for fuck’s sake.

I cannot think of any modern analogue where a great power has actually declined in terms of public education and the ability to engage in critical thinking. We really are seeing the destruction of America through sheer lack of education. This literally the dumbing down of America…although populist paranoia has been with us for quite some time.

The animating human life force, a series of electrical impulses along nerves and chemical reactions within cells, is unique to each individual and can be documented through EEGs. Whether this energy matrix remains coherent and sentient after leaving the body at death… is a matter of faith. got to hand it to these guys, you want to show the other side in a bad light, playing the Satan card is a sure fire way to win converts to your cause. Who knew there were so many Satanic worshipers hidden in the small towns and big cities of Texas. Now that this new issue has been exposed that Texas Churches are obviously unable to handle the important task of keeping Texas in the column for Christ; I expect Rick Perry to bring those churches under state control in order to ensure that they meet the State of Texas’ rigorous theological standards and announce that there will be one true Church of the State of Texas.

That IS the sticks around here. It’s ~172,000 people, about 7% the size of Dallas County. It’s 67.4% white. Plano/Collin County is heavily Republican.

Late on this, but wow, I hadn’t seen the map before. That puts nearly all women in West Texas 5-6+ hours from the nearest clinic in NM unless I’m mistaken. At least two days off from work, a hell of a lot of gas/bus money, care for any dependents… pretty sick.

I bet they would just love to do the same thing to polling places in strategic parts of the country.

Looks like two institutions that have lost track of their core mission.

It’s kind of cute, in its own twisted way. An institution of kid touchers withdrawing their support from another institution that believes consenting adults should be able to do whatever the hell they want without the government discriminating against them for it.

The catholic church believes that homosexuality is only okay when it’s a priest forcing himself on an altar boy. Consent is evil.

Syria says Mursi must realise Egyptians don’t want him

BEIRUT, July 3 (Reuters) - The Syrian government, fighting to crush a two-year-old uprising against President Bashar al-Assad that started with peaceful calls for reform, said on Wednesday Egyptian President Mohamed Mursi should step down for the sake of his country.

Relishing the possible downfall of one of Assad’s most vocal critics, Syrian television carried live coverage of the huge street demonstrations in Egypt demanding Mursi’s departure.

Very small particles, etc. If you’ve studied higher math or physics, it’s not a reach to consider a multi-universe scenario.

The worst mistake feminists ever made, in my opinion, was choosing the word “feminism” - it seems to imply to some that males don’t benefit just as much from the ideas of equality of genders, when nothing could be further from the truth.

Question. Will the secret service have to protect Ted Nugent—from Ted Nugent?

I could see Ted riding in open aired limo, in downtown Dallas, with him pointing an AR-15 at the crowd.

re: #548 GunstarGreen

The twit(er) self-describes as a “recovering feminist”. What the actual fuck does that even mean?

From a link on her profile:

CATHERINE ADAIR

Pro-Life Speaker, Former Planned Parenthood Employee

Catherine Adair worked for Planned Parenthood of Massachusetts at the largest abortion clinic in New England. There she witnessed thousands of abortions, doing everything from making appointments to assisting in the procedure rooms. After seeing the aftermath of a second-trimester abortion, she was forever changed. Her personal experience with abortion at age 19 and time working at Planned Parenthood changed her from a prochoice feminist to a prolife activist.

Tucker Carlson has reached a new level of utter and complete DERP:

Tucker Carlson: The black market is a ‘far more efficient system’ for health care

“For people who just want to be covered against catastrophic illness and don’t want to pay for other people’s hair transplants or sex changes, they’re out of luck,” he said while guest hosting Sean Hannity’s Fox News show. “I keep hearing Democrats saying, the implementation of Obamacare at the end of the year is going to be a disaster — I can’t even use the profanities — a disaster.”

“This is the easiest way to bring back a cash economy into health care,” the National Review’s John Fund agreed. “Because a lot of people will drop insurance, a lot of people will be thrown off insurance by their employers. I think you’re going to see a black market develop, where people will go to the doc and say, ‘Look, right up front, I’m only paying cash so let’s negotiate.’”

“Which would be a far more efficient system, by the way,” Carlson declared.

Elaborate on that if you can, please.

During the 30s, it was a article of faith among the Nazis that Jews smelled different. And there’s the (very old) racist trope that claims that “blacks smell different”.

If there are men who aren’t smart enough to not be threatened by the word ‘feminism’, I don’t think the feminists should be blamed for that.

If she ‘witnessed the aftermath of a second trimester abortion’, it was her own (implied to have occurred when she was 19), because they don’t do those at PP clinics.

I have no problem calling her a liar just based on the ‘smell’ tweet.

A feminist would never call it that. Back in the day, it was always Liberation, nothing less. Still is—nothing less.

Right. “I only have cash, let’s negotiate.” Which tells me he hasn’t experienced it at all.

You’re in the emergency room for, oh, say a broken leg. “Hey, doc, before you see me we have to negotiate.” Will you know you have to negotiate with at least five parties? (That’s how many bills I got, me and my ‘I don’t have insurance I have to pay cash” experience.) Will you know that your rate is HIGHER than that of most insurance companies? (I saw the comparison rate chart at both the hospital and at two doctor offices. Which matches what various reporters have found out.)

It’s not just derp. It’s the stupidity of someone who thinks the world should be as he would make it, not as it is.

Don’t you have to be a nurse or PA or something like that to assist in any sort of proceedure? Her description of herself made it sound more like she was a receptionist or did intake info/clerk type work. See, now I want to call MA and find out if she worked there, lol. A google search only brings up anti-choice links and her own writing and stuff.

All people smell different. Mostly because what they eat.

Haven’t you ever gone to another person’s house and it smelled different?

My paternal grandparents’ place smelled different than my maternal grandparents’ place, mostly because the former cooked a lot of ham, beef, and garlic, while the latter cooked more chicken, pasta, and onion.

No big whoop.

She claimed ‘assisted in the procedure rooms’. Doesn’t say she assisted ‘with’, ‘in’, or ‘during’ procedures. Maybe she mopped the floors and took out the trash.

QFT. Been there, done that. If it is a non-emergent thing you can sometimes knock something off for cash, but it’s not like you can go price-shopping on that arthroscopic surgery or whatever since you’ve got hospitals or surgi-centers and a doctor or two who only have privileges in certain places. And many communities wouldn’t have a lot of different facilities competing with each other.

These folks need some actual experience in this.

Yes. And since they are messing with ‘access’, that too will be a point for the courts to look at. It’s why Turner kept saying the bill is unconstitutional.
