White guy who references multiple sources of racist screed kills black people, he is a lone wolf.

Black guy mentions racism as reason he killed white people, “RACE WAR!”

I am getting so fucking sick and tired of this pathetic horseshit

lawhawk  Aug 26, 2015 • 11:17:48am

And in the 5 hours since the shooting occurred, there have likely been:

~12 firearm suicides (showing my work via CDC stats: 21,175 firearm suicides, 365 days, 24 hours = 2.4 per hour)

~3.6 firearms homicides (showing work via CDC stats: 11,208 firearms homicides, 365 days, 24 hours = ~.73 per hour).

This is the background noise we have all become accustomed to.

And while the homicide rates have gone down in recent years, especially since the end of the crack epidemic, the violence is still there, the suicides are still happening, and these unjustifiable horrors keep happening.

Here we go. Now the right wingers are really going to lose their shit.

After Shooting, Alleged Gunman Details Grievances in ‘Suicide Notes’

In the 23-page document faxed to ABC News, the writer says “MY NAME IS BRYCE WILLIAMS” and his legal name is Vester Lee Flanagan II” He writes what triggered today’s carnage was his reaction to the racism of the Charleston church shooting:

“Why did I do it? I put down a deposit for a gun on 6/19/15. The Church shooting in Charleston happened on 6/17/15…”

“What sent me over the top was the church shooting. And my hollow point bullets have the victims’ initials on them.”

It is unclear whose initials he is referring to. He continues, “As for Dylann Roof? You (deleted)! You want a race war (deleted)? BRING IT THEN YOU WHITE …(deleted)!!!” He said Jehovah spoke to him, telling him to act.

Later in the manifesto, the writer quotes the Virginia Tech mass killer, Seung Hui Cho, and calls him “his boy,” and expresses admiration for the Columbine High School killers. “Also, I was influenced by Seung-Hui Cho. That’s my boy right there. He got NEARLY double the amount that Eric Harris and Dylann Klebold got…just sayin’.

In an often rambling letter to the authorities, and family and friends, he writes of a long list of grievances. In one part of the document, Williams calls it a “Suicide Note for Friends and Family”.

—He says has suffered racial discrimination, sexual harassment and bullying at work. —He says he has been attacked by black men and white females. —He talks about how he was attacked for being a gay, black man

“Yes, it will sound like I am angry…I am. And I have every right to be. But when I leave this Earth, the only emotion I want to feel is peace….”

“The church shooting was the tipping point…but my anger has been building steadily…I’ve been a human powder keg for a while…just waiting to go BOOM!!!!”.

So it was the Charleston shooting AND he really admired other mass murderers, like the 16-year old Columbine killings.

I’m still looking for an update on the shooting at the Bell County Justice Center in Kentucky.
So far the only new thing since it happened more than two hours ago is that one person is dead.

Bell County is a fundy place.
Right now, the school system is being sued for re-instituting school-sanctioned prayer before football games, despite being ordered to stop it four years ago.

It’s also the location of the snake-handling church where it’s not wise to be preacher.

Fun place, it is.

My heart hurts from all of the hate over the past few days. This. Trump. Being reminded how much some corners of the Internet fucking hate women.

And a lot of people are perfectly happy to marinate themselves in that hate. They think there’s nothing wrong with it. How toxic a society is this? How do you wake people up to what they’re wallowing in, and bring about change?

I don’t know the answers, and today I’m feeling like there aren’t any.

We played against them 5 years ago. After the football game, their coach at the time asked all of us to join hands and pray with them. A very baptist prayer. Our team, being good Catholics, obliged. This is not the only Public school in Eastern KY we have prayed with after a football game, at their request.

I’ll no doubt be hearing from right wingers now that Breitbart “News” was “right” to call it a “race murder.”

No. That’s not how it works. You don’t get to jump to a conclusion based on little or no evidence and then claim you were “right” if subsequent events support your unwarranted conclusion. That’s not “right,” it’s coincidence.

I went home early from work today. This violence sickens me. What sickens me more is the finger pointing.

Stop.

My nephew is a cameraman for News Channel Six here in Albany NY. Four months ago they found his brother ‘dead’ from a heroin overdose in a Stewart’s bathroom. Unfortunately they brought him back with Narcan, only to linger brain dead for four more days. Seeing that cameraman just brought a dread inside of me I cannot describe.
I’m going to split firewood today and get lost in hard labor and the roar of my chainsaw, I urge all of you to turn off your computers and spend time with your love ones.

Saw a post over at BJ that what we need to end this shit is to actually force people that own firearms to actually be part of a well-regulated militia, that ensures that you show up for arms and safety training, that you actually work as a group to defend the common good, like a local national guard chapter based on a county level. If people actually have to do something to keep and maintain the privilege, then perhaps we can find out who really wants to have and secure firearms and who is just too fucking lazy to care.

Very similar to how war/military service is connected to Christianity by some.

Plus, if you look-especially in the American South- a football coach is analogous to a Baptist Preacher. A fiery speech you hear from a coach before the game may sound eerily similar to what you hear from the pulpit on Sunday.

Considering the manifesto, I imagine now they’re going to turn him into the antidote to Dylan Roof. I’m wondering who will be the first of the usual wingnut crowd to try to claim that this shooting proves that bringing down the Confederate flag in Charleston did nothing to stop racism, thus “proving” them right.

Don’t be worried they’ll latch onto this — be certain of it. They’re going to. I haven’t looked at the usual places, but I’m pretty sure they’re already doing it.

Of course they will….look at how they latched onto the immigrant/San Fran story.

They’re masters at this….forget about Sandy Hook or Dylan Roof or unarmed black Americans being shot to death by authority figures….but find one instance of violence that fits into their “brown people are scary” narrative and you’ll hear about it for years

Another bombshell in the Duggar family saga has landed: Josh Duggar has checked into rehab.

But for what? His family doesn’t say in their website announcement Wednesday. But since he confessed last week to hypocrisy, infidelity and being a porn addict, people will draw their own conclusions.

The news came in another gob-smacking note on the website of the ex-reality-TV stars, now stripped of their show, 19 Kids and Counting. They’re still reeling from the effects of two major sex scandals involving Josh, threatening their status as icons of Christian family values [sic], not to mention Josh’s marriage to wife Anna and their four children.

Shootings such as this are never as simple as “He was black and didn’t like white people.” If it were that simple then we’d have shootings every minute from racists. Public shootings are not a one-dimensional crime, no matter what kind of statement the gunman leaves behind.

But complexity has never been a strength of True Believers. Neither has logic.

Three human beings are dead in yet another shooting. We will not be discussing gun control as a result. We will not discuss mental illness. We will just fight over the color of people’s skin until the next shooting. Which will probably be tomorrow.

I’m not a cynic, I’m a realist. This is how we operate in this country when it comes to gun violence. Any excuse not to address the real issues. I don’t care about the race of the shooter or the victims, I care about the shooter’s mental state and how they got access to a gun. The rest is pretty damn irrelevant.

Exactly right. Easy access to guns is absolutely one of the main factors in violence like this, much more than even mental illness. Having a gun makes it much more likely that rage will erupt into deadly violence.

Exactly right. Easy access to guns is absolutely one of the main factors in violence like this, much more than even mental illness. Having a gun makes it much more likely that rage will erupt into deadly violence.

The gun nuts like to say “Guns don’t kill people, people kill people.” Yeah but the gun makes it easier. The gun nuts were I think trying to claim “Well what about knives” after a massive knife attack happened at a Chinese school I think not long after Newtown. None of those children were killed thankfully IIRC. A gun makes it easier to kill people. That’s why they were invented. The willing cognitive dissonance on this issue is infuriating.

re: #188 Backwoods_Sleuth

It’s also a matter of public record that some percentage of the profiles are less than real. A few years ago, a former employee of Ashley Madison sued the company in Canada over her terrible work conditions. She claimed that she’d gotten repetitive stress injuries in her hands after the company hired her to create 1,000 fake profiles of women in three months, written in Portuguese, to attract a Brazilian audience. The case was settled out of court, and Ashley Madison claimed that the woman never made any fake profiles.

Still, there is a clause in the Ashley Madison terms of service that notes that “some” people are using the site purely “for entertainment” and that they are “not seeking in person meetings with anyone they meet on the Service, but consider their communications with users and Members to be for their amusement.” The site stops short of saying these are fake people, but does admit that many profiles are for “amusement only.”

It’s true. Australia has had a Holocaust while we weren’t looking. Wingnuts love to claim that strict gun control laws lead to Nazi like regimes. They love to make claims “Well Hitler took the guns of the German Jews away.” Uh let’s look at that. In other news, I’ve managed to stay away from the sweets for the past week. For the most part.

I’m not dangerously overweight, but I’ve always been rather impulsive about my eating and the sugar stuff was the most sensible comfort food to cut out of my diet without feeling like I was depriving myself to any great extent. It’s pretty important that I somehow convince myself that I am not being deprived by not indulging in X or Y food.

Surprisingly enough, my last name is actually uncommon in my business.

You know she’s going to pick wingnut welfare, but it will be fun to see her face dereliction of duty charges.

Oh of course. If there isn’t a Gofundme to help her pay for her court costs, I am sure one will be. I have zero sympathy at all for this woman. She has every right to believe what she wants to believe but it got in the way of her doing the job she was elected to do. She doesn’t get to throw a fit because she doesn’t like that gays can get married now. And besides she’s a hypocrite since she’s on marriage numero four now.

Yahoo groups were a big thing back when I was doing this. One of the options you could choose was to look at group memberships, which could include the person’s email address unless they chose to keep it hidden.

Whole lot of .mil addresses out there being used in hook-up groups.

About that shooting in Bell County, KY, a man who was going back to jail, grabbed a bailiff’s sidearm and shot himself fatally. No other casualties.

wbir.com

At least he did it correctly and didn’t take anyone with him.

Yeah.

Why use Ashley Madison at all when they can use Adult Friend Finder where there are actual real people?

And she is not only refusing to issue SSM licenses, she has refused to issue ANY marriage licenses.

I figured. It’s just that you’d think a last name like ‘Smith’ would be pretty common, but I’ve worked for a couple companies with > 100 employees where I was the only one.

That’s just bizarre. I think on my mom’s side, we have a lot of people with the same first and last names since the naming custom in the part of Europe where they’re from is oldest son after his father, second after his father’s father, third after the mother’s father. For girls, it’s different: Mary, Anna, and Helen. I also discovered that I technically have the same names of my great great, great great great, and great x 4 grandfathers. Just different since they have the German variation of the name and a different middle name.

She could face jail time for contempt charges if she refuses to comply. I would guess her attorneys will make a last ditch appeal to SCOTUS for a stay, which they will deny.

Who is saying anything about murdering? The context of that tweet as I understand it is people stating that the shooter, and blacks in general, are trying to start a race war. Imani is saying the race war was started when the slaves were brought to America.

It was also started when racist Conservatives took over the Republican party and became very open about their hatred of black people.

Most of my life having a first name that’s extremely uncommon and a last name that’s probably unique (in this country) has been a pain in the ass—but sometimes it comes in handy.

Maybe Rand will pony up some cash. Ooops, he’s strapped after buying himself a caucus. (Anything more on whether it’s legal for him to use campaign funds for that?)

Although his manifesto seems pretty deranged, I don’t think it’s impossible that he really was harassed at work for being black and gay. Of course that’s no excuse for murder, but it’s not difficult to believe.

It will certainly be held up as proof by some that blacks and gays are inherently dangerous, hateful, murderously malicious people
