Ben Carson Says the Bible Backs Up His Crackpot Theory About the Pyramids

“I don’t find that to be silly at all”
Weird • Views: 56,521

YouTube

When Ben Carson was asked today by reporters about his bizarre and ahistorical theory that the pyramids were built by the biblical character Joseph to “store grain,” he answered that there was nothing silly about his pyramid idea because he believes in the Bible.

Of course, the Bible doesn’t actually mention the pyramids at all, and it certainly doesn’t claim anywhere that a mythical “Joseph” built them to store grain. Carson came up with this crackpot theory all by himself; he’s like a caricature of an anti-science Republican politician.

These are the ramblings of a mad man screaming at his feet in the subway, not the frontrunner for a major political party’s presidential nomination.

As Charles points out, the Joseph story is a myth and the Bible never mentions the pyramids, but in some Christian iconography they’re indeed represented as grain silos, which is where the good Dr. got the idea from.

Yea and in Spaceballs a giant piece of pizza chases after a dog and his friend, and they use giant combs to comb the desert.

I’d expect my presidential frontrunner (and the person TIED with a former First Lady/Senator/Secretary of State) to understand these are the musings of a freaking mad man

In all seriousness, this is a sill story that is easy to make fun of.

But the next GOP debate is in 5 days. On Fox News Business no less. This pyramid nonsense is something that should ABSOLUTELY be asked. It should be important for voters to know whether or not their frontrunner is making up their own nonsensical theories that fly in the face of historical facts, and whether or not they will back down.

But the question won’t come up. And if it does it will be dismissed as a “gotcha” question by Carson and Chris Christie will yell about ISIS not having anything to do with the pyramids

Dr. Carson is once again talking in the secret language of the evangelical wingnut.

The theory is old and wacky and non-Biblical, but he’s made defending it into a hard-line Bible-as-history, Bible-as-Truth talking point…because that’s who’s sending him money in direct-mail solicitations. People who love the idea of a world where there’s an evil, unitary “secular progressive” movement that has hijacked history, and that YEC and “Bible Truth” are brave rebels.

Also, I’ve been inside Khufu’s Pyramid. From a building science perspective, it’s the worst possible place for grain. The interior is cooler that the exterior, the stonework promotes movement of water by wicking. The central chamber is kind of damp, even in the “dry” period. Grain would dry slower, and it would be a perfect incubator for myco-spores to propagate.

If you are trying to make a case that Carson is an idiot or against science, I think it takes more than a religious conviction to discredit an internationally prominent neurosurgeon with a string of articles published in scholarly medical journals. On the other hand, Hillary Clinton believes in man-induced global warming.

Sports blogger Bill Simmons, late of ESPN, once promulgated a reader’s concept that he named the “Tyson Zone”. In their own words,

• The Tyson Zone:
“I think Ron Artest has entered rarified air now. He’s officially a person who, if a friend said, “Did you hear that (fill in celebrity’s name) just (fill in the insane behavior: urinated on a police officer, began breeding unicorns, etc.)?”, I would have no problem believing it was true. I think this space is occupied by Mike Tyson, Michael Jackson, Courtney Love, and the late, great ODB. Can you think of any others?”

I submit that Ben Carson has entered the Tyson Zone. Republicans of all stripes talk all kinds of bullshit, but there is literally no statement that Carson could make that would surprise me at this point. I don’t think a major political figure has ever achieved that.

EGYPTIAN PYRAMIDS FULL OF WHEAT, because Bible. That’s so far beyond black helicopters, or Agenda 21 takin’ yer golf away, or Barack Obama the secret Kenyan Muslim, or teh ghey agenda, or something something Benghazi… it’s flat-out fucking la-la land.

Okay, you want good schools, that’s great. I think most voters do but you have to pay for it. For all their claims that Dem voters want free stuff, I think it’s exact opposite. Republican voters want the benefits of modernity but flip their shit when they find out that a toll or tax increase helps pay for it.

Hmmm. I think I see why Dr. Ben Crazy thinks the way he does and sees things the way he does.

You mention the grain in an Egyptian pyramid would be moldy. Moldy grain produces ergot. Ergot is the mold on grain like rye and it produces the alkaloids that are used to chemically produce LSD.

That’s it, Dr. Ben Crazy be tripping!

It explains so much. /

How does an utter idiot become a neurosurgeon?

I would maybe flip that around. How does a neurosurgeon become an idiot? People can change a lot over the years. In Carson’s case maybe he changed from a younger man/doctor after years of being a top surgeon which fed his ego to the point where he started thinking he was super smart about everything. Then the dementia set in once he saw himself as a brilliant human capable of thinking like no other. He grew delusional out of his super ego and most likely no one telling him he was losing it.

No, the film is such a radical departure from the graphic novel that Alan Moore demanded his name be taken off the credits. But the question won’t come up. And if it does it will be dismissed as a “gotcha” question by Carson and Chris Christie will yell about ISIS not having anything to do with the pyramids

I think one of the things about polling head-to-head matchups is that it can overstate the extent to which people would vote for a relatively unknown person.

For a right-of-center respondent, given the choice in a poll between Hillary Clinton and Some Guy, Mr. Guy is maybe going to win 9 times out of 10. The choice is different when it’s Mr. Nutty Pyramids. He’s maybe going to scrape 6 of 10. Even if the drop-offs go into “undecided”, that still looks a whole lot worse.

Because he’s gotten very little actual scrutiny. Nobody has really taken aim at him yet, but that will change.

Also, most of the polls we’re seeing right now are based on the 2014 turnout, because pollsters were badly caught off guard in that election and as a result are now heavily discounting turnout, even though they know they’re heading into a general election this time around. The fact that this also favors the horserace narrative the media desperately wants is a feature, not a bug.

Many of the questions asked of Carson backers are to…yes, elder White women.

They have spent years telling everyone Democrat politicians can’t be trusted.

Then the TeaParty hit and they fed that same monster but included some Republican politicians (RINOs) along with Liberals/Progressives (Democrat was no longer strong enough) can’t be trusted.

After all the fighting among the factions in the GOP it has now gone on to simply cover all politicians. Yes, it has gotten out of even FOXs control.

Add in the mimicking of FOX success and a drive for media to be fair and bland by all, and FOX is everywhere. Everyone in the media is just asking the questions.

Carson’s conundrum is how to boost his minority vote percentage without simultaneously alienating the racist GOP base. It would be interesting during the general election season watching him try to walk back his statement on the black lives matter movement.

In a move sure to catapult him to the top of Bill O’Reilly’s most favored list, Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson blasted Black Lives Matter for “bullying people” and slammed the movement’s motto as “sickening.”

Carson is popular right now because the GOP wants its own Obama, and Herman Cain didn’t work out last time around. Unfortunately for them Carson is a fucking insane religious nutjob motherfucking Ruckus, and there’s no amount of quiet, calm talking that will keep a lid on all that for another entire year.

Weels within weels man

Yale Trustees constitute a legal trust that provides for the subterranean structure for the plot for world government. Rare is the case that those listed below are unknowing. They are willing participants. In this authors opinion this select group of people are not compartmentalized. Skull and Bones (Brotherhood of Death) has operating control of these Trustees.

One is deficient in knowledge of both foreign and domestic policies of the United States by not having read America’s Secret Establishment. … in particular the section of the book titled How the Order Creates War and Revolution is in itself a summarized history clearly showing the tactics of those deliberately terminating individual rights .

Here another “Plant” or “Agent” of the Conspiracy is Ben Carson. Carson has great appeal and uses words Americans hunger to hear. Like Herman Cain, his presentation is designed to neutralize a segment of the population that begs for common sense and reform. Both “candidates” are handled and promoted like the past shills developed by Skull & Bones.

Austan Goolsbee (See footnote #1) was Obama’s skull & Bones handler since 2004. Like one of the “Boys from Brazil” … Obama was incubated and trained … as one of many to fill roles as front men for a deep conspiracy. Ben Carson was also chosen to follow the path of scores of evil people from the Secret Societies. Ben Carson being “honored” by Skull & Bones George Bush. Ben Carson is an emeritus fellow of the Yale Corporation. Check his colleges and former Fellows in a list below.

Ben Carson joins the ranks of people like David Boren (skull & bones) who trains Interpol, FBI, Dept of Justice and various clandestine spooks who work for the New World Order. And there is J. Richardson Dilworth (skull & bones) who ran Rockefeller Family Associates.

I don’t know if this fits, but I have seen many elder White women in a lot of the media coverage of Carson. I think it was yesterday and he was signing books and the line was full of elder White women.

Many of the questions asked of Carson backers are to…yes, elder White women.

Maybe it has something to do with his being a good surgeon, what they see as his gentle nature, soft spoken (tender?)…etc.

That could be driving the cross-over numbers at this time.

When I was at the oil change place today, CNN had a Carson story on. I was sighing and rolling my eyes, and there was a guy there scrolling through his phone ignoring it all. Then he looked up at the TV and got that “I can’t believe this shit” look on his face. He kind of side-eyed me, briefly nodding and smiling, in agreement that Carson’s some crazy shit.

Down here is South by dog Carolina, people are very careful about publicly dissing a Republican, but the guy and I had a “moment” where the insanity was just too much.

Off to Rock Hill tomorrow for the Dem Candidate forum with Rachel Maddow as the moderator. Should be fun. Then, Saturday, Dem Women’s conference with Bernie as keynote. Some of my peeps have become rabid Berniacs, but…speaking of Bernie—today’s South by dog Carolina Dem polling shows Hillary WAY ahead—like 71% to 15% for Bernie (and poor Martin at about 5%). She led by a lot in every category—pretty big change from 2008 when she only carried 1 county in the primary.

I have a piece that makes Carson’s “Grain Storage Pyramid Scheme” and “The Tranquil Rap Sound of Ben “Hammer” Carson” seem almost SANE by comparison.

JEB announces that he’s going to WIN in New Hampshire….

Jeb Bush guaranteed victory in New Hampshire’s first in the nation primary. Despite tanking poll numbers, the governor told WMUR he remains confident he can win.

“I’m going to win it,” Bush said.

“Is it a must-win for you?” asked WMUR’s John DiStaso.

“Oh, I’m going to win it,” Bush repeated. “I honestly believe I’m going to win New Hampshire.” Read more at Washington Examiner

And no, it’s not a satire site.

There will be a Hillary surrogate at the event where Bernie’s keynoting, but I’m not sure who it’s going to be. I have to say, I think her campaign should have had her at least stop by the women’s conference to say hi before she heads off for other parts of the state—it’s a WOMEN’S conference. Nobody listens to me—and I have such great political insight//

(Carville should be entertaining. We got Terry McAuliffe as her surrogate at our state convention last year. But Hillary did show up for our Day In Blue in the spring in Columbia, so there’s that.)

Actually looked that up last night for some reason. They are a cross between Cornish Game and White Plymouth Rock Chickens. They are about 6 weeks when sent to the big chicken coop in the sky.

It’s marketing. And they aren’t all hens, can just as easy be male.

I think everybody has equal rights, but I’m not sure that anybody should have extra rights—extra rights when it comes to redefining everything for everybody else and imposing your view on everybody else.”

Oh, you mean it’s not ok for Christians to make LGBT folks feel uncomfortable by telling them they’re going to Hell and that their lifestyle is evil? Oh, you mean Christians shouldn’t have the extra rights of redefining whose body it is and whether a woman can have an abortion?

Here are some Cal-Tech students lifting 6,900 lbs with a kite.

Obviously the pyramids were not built to store grain.

But it is fun to speculate how they were built, and some think that kites might have supplied some of the lifting power.

These kids tried it out in a small way.

Too much fun !

Really, what hasn’t Ben gotten wrong and what does it matter? He’s tapped into the mother lode of stupid, and is reaping the rewards.

It would probably be simpler to build a time machine than to figure out how the pyramids were actually built.

I know. Joseph built them. Dr. Ben Carson (he’s a DOCTOR) told me.

WSJ calling out Carson:

A spokesman for the Carson campaign, after being contacted about the error, said Mr. Carson had changed his post to say that the signers had no “federal” elected office experience.

Mr. Carp, the Brooklyn College professor, said Mr. Carson is correct that there has been a long tradition in American politics of claiming that amateurism is a virtue in its own right. But, he said, signing the Declaration of Independence took genuine political skill and experience, because it required convincing their fellow colonists to go down a dangerous road.

“To claim those people were amateurs is simply a falsehood,” he said.

Mr. Carp added that changing the Facebook post to say the signers had no “federal” elected experience was “ridiculous,” because there was no federal government prior to that time.

Probably the same logic that led them to name a condom after a battle plan that consisted of getting inside the enemy’s defenses and then spilling out to conquer.

Many of them owned slaves, Ben.

I have no political experience. The current Members of Congress have a combined 8,700 years of political experience. Are we sure political experience is what we need. Every signer of the Declaration of Independence had no federal elected office experience. What they had was a deep belief that freedom is a gift from God. They had a determination to rise up against a tyrannical King. They were willing to risk all they had, even their lives, to be free.

Taxes that were necessary to pay for a war that was fought for their benefit.

This is generally the case. People just don’t realize how little they know about things they haven’t spent years training in.

Most of us don’t seek the highest field in that area though. I mean I know I’m not very good at mathematics. But I am not going to apply for a job as a mathematics chair at a major university either.

Speaking of needling, I was out on a nice walk this afternoon at Windy Hill when I was attacked by a yellow jacket. No obvious nest nearby, I was just walking on the trail when bam-there it was, stinging my hand. Not overly painful, but annoying.

I think they get crabby in the Fall.

They eat fruits, sweet things in the early part of the year. They become meat eaters in the later part of the year.

Although it looks like he is trying real hard to own it and his creationist beliefs.
