A man in Richmond, California, has been arrested on suspicion of building bombs with which he planned to attack Muslims.

Would you be surprised to discover he’s a follower of Donald Trump?

The suspect was identified by police as 55 year old William Celli.  He was arrested, and booked into the Contra Costa County jail Sunday afternoon.

Richmond police said they can’t elaborate on the threats other than to say that Celli’s actions and statements drew the attention of law enforcement, and were very concerning to officers.

Celli appeared to be a supporter of Presidential candidate Donald Trump.  A post on his Facebook page said he would follow Trump “to the end of the world.”

Trump is in Grand Rapids, Michigan, tonight.

“They are issuing a lot more than what the capacity of the building is knowing that protesters in competing campaigns go online and register for tickets in hopes that they can use up the seat make it look empty. Based on that, were asking that everybody be here early. Doors open at 5 p.m., the first 7,500 people that are here will be allowed in the building.”

The crowd is expected to be passionate with both Trump supporters and opponents. It is suggested arrive at 4 p.m. or earlier. Secret Service will have security checks.

Some items have been prohibited including: umbrellas, pepper spray, outside food and beverage and large signs, posters and banners.

Security has been increased leading up to Trump’s visit. Protesters will be forced to stand on the sidewalk adjacent to the complex. If protesters make it inside and try to disrupt the event, they will be shown the door.

If protesters make it inside and try to disrupt the event, they will be shown the door after getting insulted and beat down by Trump supporters and, possibly, Trump himself.

FARMINGTON — Although Farmington’s Planned Parenthood does not offer abortion services, a group of Christians who meet monthly to protest outside the nonprofit say it is guilty because it is part of a larger group that includes clinics where abortions are performed.

“They have the name Planned Parenthood,” said Sarah Herth, the protest organizer. “They don’t have to do it themselves to be guilty.”

sigh…

Frankly, the scientific inaccuracies of this nature bother me a lot more than Star Wars doing whatever, because they’re actively playing off of the viewer’s presumed desire to see something that can’t actually happen.

If you see a trailer full of laser swords and telepathic wizards and planet-sized spaceships and say, “hmm, I wonder if you could actually do that!”, you deserve what’s coming to you.

“Gravity” was supposed to be “realistic” with its portrayal of weightlessness in space (which is ruined if you don’t watch it in IMAX) but the premise that one can survive a space disaster by escaping to an old, abandoned Russian or Chinese station is pure fantasy.

Exactly. Star Wars is Lord Of The Rings meets Dune meets Flash Gordon.

It’s a fairy tale. With sci-fi elements thrown in. That’s it. It’s high fantasy in outer space. Even the very beginning of the film, “A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away” - what’s that but “Once upon a time in a far-off, distant land….”, in other words, the beginning of every fairy tale ever. You CAN hear explosions in space if the expanding gas shell from the detonation still has enough mass when it impinges on whatever craft or habitat you are in. This can happen at a considerable distance, but it is not the same as sound waves propagating through a fluid medium, which cannot happen in a vacuum.

People have decided that Emma Watson = Hermione and that the stage play is somehow a continuation of the films when Rowling has said all along it’s a continuation of the books, where her race really isn’t specified. In fact, Rowling says as much:

Honestly, it’s like the people who complained about Heimdall being black in the Thor films, or about a black Stormtrooper in Star Wars. It’s stupid.

I thought the weight was 250 grams. If I remember right, ours are closer to 400. Did I miss something? Disclaimer: I did not actually bust out a scale and weigh my drone.

If a humongous space cruiser full of pressurized air blew up a couple of hundred meters from your capsule, you would definitely hear something, unless of course the photonic phlogiston demateralizer beams happened to get you too.

Do be careful with that. The limitation on battery capacity isn’t just to spoil the fun; the motors can overheat with extended use. I’d probably keep it to three batteries for now. That does sound like a good idea, especially if I pick up the extra batteries I asked for for Christmas.

That one would be tough, though. You’d have to have a drone with a lot of lifting capacity; Nerf weaponry is not lightweight, and the ones that are would require a custom-built firing mechanism. But fun as hell, yes.

The whole robot evolution being in the Nexus phase, specifically, Nexus 6 replicants - yeah, that’s gonna be awhile, I’m thinking.

Still, a damn good film. I’ve also recommended Ghost In The Shell, which though based on Masumune Shirow’s manga, is actually different in the sense that it’s a fairly thoughtful meditation on what it means to be human. I enjoyed it immensely, and I consider it not necessarily an anime, but a straight-up sci-fi classic.

I *really* hate any explanation of something from a Star Wars movie that begins like “In the extended universe, it is explained…”*

but… In the extended universe it was explained that there was a bit of Human supremacy in the upper echelons of the Empire, and that non-humans were slowly purged from positions of power and often stripped of rights (like Wookies). Much of the Empire was modeled after the Nazis after all.

*It’s almost all non-canon now, but before Disney, the EU was filled with mountains of horrible hack writers (I’m looking at you Kevin J Anderson & Karen Traviss) and garbage stories with a lack of originality and borderline Mary Sue characters. I also think that if George Lucas required some other writer to explain why his story didn’t make sense, GL wasn’t doing his job.

Sorry but the voters (and non-voters) of this country are to blame for the lack of anything getting done. Republicans ran and won on a platform of “we want to stop Obama from doing anything.” Now that they are successful the media cannot pretend to be surprised.

With each passing year, it becomes more and more obvious that McCain is not a good judge of ANYTHING or ANYONE. Whichever so-called moderate he and Graham eventually endorse will be doomed. As much as those of us left of center dislike him, the hate the Limbaugh wing of the party feels for him is 100X greater.

Just today, as I continued reading Achcar’s The Arabs and the Holocaust, I was reminded of the genocidal slaughter of Muslims in Sabra and Shatila. They were murdered by Christian fascists as their allies, Jewish soldiers led by Ariel Sharon, stood by and did nothing to prevent the massacre. Are those the famed Judeo-Christian values in action?

Every conservative in this race should stand up to Donald Trump for his liberal views and embrace of Putin.

I think there are two poorly combined messages in one pathetic tweet: that Trump’s “conservative credentials”, when considered objectively, are pretty shaky. and that Putin is not necessarily an admirable figure in many aspects.

But in the subjective, selective world of the modern GOP, Trump talks all the rabid, bigoted, short-sighted points they want to hear, and of course how can you not love a guy who hunts bears bare-handed while riding bare-chested and bareback and tolerates no guff from an independent press or political opponents.

Chess is not so random as to have forced checkmates lying around for cyborg kibitzers to notice.

There have already been a number of close calls, which is why the FAA is heading this off at the pass by instituting the regulations early. When a serious incident occurs - and I say when, not if - at least they will be able to track it down and prosecute accordingly. Unlike, say, gun crimes, where nobody knows where the gun came from or who owned it.

“Due in part to Snow’s lobbying, on December 19, 1988, the CPSC reinstated the outright ban on lawn darts.[2] In the previous eight years, 6,100 people had been sent to the emergency room due to lawn darts. Out of that total, 81 percent were 15 or younger, and half of them were 10 or younger. On the week the commission voted to ban the product, an 11-year-old girl in Tennessee was hit by a lawn dart and sent into a coma.[1]”

If I had to guess at the logic, it probably has something to do with the common liberal response to gun-fuckers, where we mention that cars are heavily regulated.

The funny thing is, it’s the gunfuckers who usually bring up cars. Up until last year, I think, cars killed more Americans than guns. So gunfucker says, “Maybe we should ban cars a-hyuck, a-hyuck!”

To which rational humans respond, “We regulate the ever-loving crap out of cars and drivers.”

What he is doing is taking advantage of the popularity of Stars Wars to teach a bit of real science, I suspect.

He does that with every popular movie. He’s not seriously mad about things, although one time he did confront James Cameron about the star pattern in the night scenes in Titanic.

I skipped NdGT’s tweets today not because they bothered me, but because I was afraid they’d spoil something. Haven’t seen the movie yet.

Titanic makes sense though because it’s set on Earth and we have accurate information on how the sky should have looked the night of April 14, 1912. Star Wars is not based on real events or set on or anywhere near earth, so trying to apply earth science to it is a bit much.

I suspect that Trump, should he get the nomination, will have a moment in the general when he goes chauvinist in a way that will kill his chances (my favorite theory is still him responding to something Clinton says with something like, “listen here, little lady”). But I also have a feeling that this may turn out to be a very low turnout election (probably below 53% and possibly even below 50%). And if it does end up being a low turnout election, anything can happen.

Well, like I said, I could see Trump saying something completely chauvinistic in the general. I think that could hurt him among Republican women - it might not be enough to drive them to vote for Clinton, but it could be enough to drive them to not vote in the presidential race, or vote for a third party in protest. And there may even be some shaming of Republican men by those Republican women that could drive Trump’s numbers down.

And yeah, I agree that Clinton isn’t an exciting candidate/nominee. Turn out seems to be tied to how good the nominees are.

It’s going to be a weird race to the end.

Republican lawmakers in Ohio have proposed a bill that would require women seeking abortions to choose whether to have the tissue buried or cremated, the Columbus Dispatch reported.

“Today, we stand for the voiceless,” state Rep. Robert McColley (R) said in support of the bill. “Today, we stand for the dignity of the unborn.”

Abortion providers who fail to comply with the woman’s choice would be charged with a first-degree misdemeanor and could spend up to six months in jail. Women seeking the procedure would be required to state their preference in writing, which would then be kept in state records.

The provider would be forced to pay for whichever procedure the patient chose.
House Speaker Cliff Rosenberger (R) said the bills would be “a priority in the House” when legislators reconvene in January

The dentistry story is actually a lot cooler and less weird than that headline might suggest. Kravitz isn’t digging in people’s mouths with rusty tools. Instead, he’s been sponsoring charitable endeavors in the Bahamas, where he lives. And as Page Six reports, police recently raided a dental clinic that he’d sponsored.

Kravitz had reportedly flown four American dentists to do a free weekend clinic in Gregory Town, the island locale where he lives. But since he didn’t get the right permits, the dentists had to run out the back door to avoid being arrested while “local residents were being fitted for dentures and having root canals.” Makes me wonder if any poor Bahamians were left sitting in dental chairs with half-done root canals. This is obviously pure conjecture, but I wonder if Kravitz just didn’t bribe all the right people.

Not really mentioned.

One bill would require hospitals, abortion clinics and other health-care providers to dispose of fetuses and fetal tissue either by burial or cremation.

The second bill would require women who have abortions to sign a paper designating whether they want the fetal remains to be buried or cremated.
dispatch.com

It’s all because creepy Mike DeWine couldn’t find anything in his initial witch hunt against Planned Parenthood, so he decided to stir up some shit, with rhetoric like “Cooking and disposing of fetuses is not humane. It will come as a shock to Ohioans that fetal remains are being mixed in with yesterday’s garbage.”

How many people under the age of 35 know who Andrew Dice Clay is? Hell, how many people over the age of 35 remember who Andrew Dice Clay is?

I shouldn’t admit this but I used to be able to recite all his - er - limericks from memory. I can still remember Hickory Dickory Doc though in full.

Holy jumping Jesus on a pogo stick, it’s happened again:
Racism Is Alive in Texas: 12 Year-Old Sikh Boy Detained For “Bomb Threat”

It has been about three months since Texas made headlines for the case of Ahmed Mohamed, the 14 year-old boy from Irving who was arrested for bringing a homemade clock to school. After such a high-profile case, you might think that the onslaught of negative media attention would have taught Texas school districts to tread carefully, and avoid impulsively arresting brown children without cause. You would be wrong.

On Friday, December 11, in Arlington, TX, Armaan Singh Sarai, age 12, was arrested and sent to a juvenile detention facility. The Sikh seventh-grader was arrested and sent to juvie because a classmate thought that a battery charger in Armaan’s backpack looked like a bomb.

This seemingly fantastic tale checks out, Dallas Morning News story: Arlington police say boy made hoax bomb threat; family blames classmate’s prank

So, here’s my question. Is any other candidate from either party holding a rally of any kind tonight? Or do CNN and MSNBC feel that only Trump’s ranting is “newsworthy?” (and I use the term “news” advisedly.)

As sick as Trump makes me, the media make me even sicker.

Yeah, why ARE Trump’s rallies broadcast live as news when nobody else’s are? Sure, everyone wants to be the network that caught it live when Trump ate that baby, but they’ve gone far beyond simply reporting the news and are now his primary media outlet.

Of course! Every other President, like Bush or Reagan, “The White House goes with them! They can’t escape the job, no matter where they go! There’s really no vacation for the President!”

But there’s something different about this President from all the 43 Presidents who went before. What do you suppose it could be?

He does that with every popular movie. He’s not seriously mad about things, although one time he did confront James Cameron about the star pattern in the night scenes in Titanic.

I skipped NdGT’s tweets today not because they bothered me, but because I was afraid they’d spoil something. Haven’t seen the movie yet.

Then there was the time he came on The Daily Show and told Jon Stewart the Earth in their opening graphics was rotating the wrong way…
