Anti-Choice Fraudster David Daleiden and Accomplice Reject Probation Plea Deals

Prison looms
Law • Views: 64,284

Anti-choice fraudster David Daleiden and co-conspirator Sandra Merritt have both now officially rejected plea deals that would have let them avoid possible prison sentences.

HOUSTON (AP) — Two anti-abortion activists indicted in connection with making undercover Planned Parenthood videos are rejecting plea deals offering them probation.

Sandra Merritt’s attorneys said Friday she won’t settle the case through pretrial diversion, a form of probation that would keep her out of prison and ultimately have the charges dismissed. Attorneys for fellow activist David Daleiden had previously rejected the offer.

Daleiden and Merritt each face a felony charge of tampering with a governmental record for allegedly using a fake driver’s license to conceal their identities while dealing with Planned Parenthood. Daleiden also faces a misdemeanor count related to purchasing human organs.

Excellent! They’ve got Chuck Cee Jay’s “I cannot lose” delusion going on. Please let there be video of their faces when the sentences come down.

Good. Let them rot in prison.

While they may garner sympathy for their anti-abortion bullshit, they forged government documents. They’re not going to slide on that.

To be fair if they’d accepted the Texas plea deals California would have turned around and fucked them with those admissions. I mean they’re fucked either way but it’s not like they really would have spared themselves jail time by accepting.

Also, by not taking the TX deals and going to trial, Daleiden and accomplice seem to be banking on Abbott pardoning them after conviction.

Eric The Fruit Bat  Apr 29, 2016 • 6:47:28pm

Now it depends if sentencing is handled by the judge or the jury when the trial commences-and we know Abbott will pardon his ass anyway.

California will still be where Daleiden meets his maker.

Oh that is precisely what will happen. We know that Abbot is going to pardon them. Then they will use that to mount a “double jeopardy”challenge to anything California would try.

Just looked her up to understand your reference. Pretty interesting (and controversial) woman. I can see a couple of parallels between her and Hillary Clinton: the wife of a governor who ran for the office herself and won, but dealt with her fair share of innuendo of corrupt dealings.

THank you, Wikipedia:

In 1936, voters passed an amendment to the state constitution stripping the governor of the power to issue pardons and granting that power to a politically independent Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles (see Capital punishment in Texas).[9]

Pray tell….

Ya see.. Governor Pa Fergson got impeached with a stipulation that he also never hold public elected office ever again.

What to do? What to do?

Pa’s wife, Ma Ferguson, ran for governor and won.

Ma was accused of all sorts of stuff that she probably did, one of those things was selling pardons which made the state enact this rule:

The Texas Constitution gives the Governor the power to grant pardons, except in cases of treason and impeachment.

However, the Governor cannot act alone.

Before he/she grants a pardon, he/she must get a written recommendation from a majority of the members of the Board of Pardons and Paroles

I’d like to believe that she handed out those pardons just because she thought Prohibition was bullshit and decided to do something about it. But it probably was just for her own personal gain.

Nice size for doing a two hour walk through. No elephants, but that doesn’t make/break a zoo for me. Mix of animals* beyond that, informative descriptions, and quite a bit on conservation and how the various animals depend on their environments. There is also a whole sky-way network for a lot of the animals to use to go between areas.

Not ideal weather since it was cool, overcast, and damp - which I think kept a bunch of animals inside.

I went today to avoid crowds, and it was a couple of school groups providing the thongs of human young. Only a problem at a few exhibits.

* - Generally has a few of each representative type, but generally not a lot of large animals in a given type. For example, two bear species, not six. And so on. A decent reptile house for the size, usually small specimens beyond some of the alligator/crocodiles.

Democrats need to be a little less defensive this election. We’re going to win unless we do something stupid, like not keep fighting. We’re not in a come from behind position. I think people will be more motivated if we acknowledge that the future of the country is going to be decided by the Democratic coalition of whites and minorities, decide it’s a good position to fight from, and go from there.

I can still remember waking up to Governor Ventura. Nobody could believe it, especially Jesse. He got humble just out of shock for a while, but about 2 1/2 years into his term, he just kind of decided to fuck it. No-fucks-to-give Jesse was a drag.

Trump isn’t going to waste time being humble. He’s going to be king right out of the box.

It ought to be twice that. Or more.

Yeah, if it’s anything less than 10% she’s underperforming.

I was looking for a graphic from the 2012 election. The USA Today/Gallop polls showed Obama behind Romney from Summer 2011 until September 2012 when people really start paying attention.

The GOP threw every “scandal” they could imagine at Obama two elections in a row.

The GOP needed help from Libyans and a crappy email server to make them. They couldn’t even make up their own.

Well.. Obama bowing. That was all them. But even Obama helped them there… thanks Obama.

Sanders isn’t going to be in a position of power by then. It’s pretty much over for him now. Bernie’s going to make his demands and Hillz is going to say ‘Sure, whatever’ and it will be over.

I actually hope Sander’s campaign puts pressure on Clinton to lean more left. For all of my bitching about the Bernie Bros, I think having Sanders in the mix is ultimately a good thing. I do worry that Clinton will be “Yeah, whatever” and ignore some of the stuff he’s brought up.

Of course, I had another fill of Sanders supporters bitching about how Clinton is actually more to the right of Trump recently. That shit worries me the most. It’s hard to keep a fascist psycho from taking over the country when people in your own party, who didn’t get their way, are actively trying to sabotage the election.

And with that outlier added, Clinton still leads by 7.3 points in the RCP average.

Yup. But they’re just now getting into the LV polling. I’m holding to the dogma that HRC is 2 points ahead through November. We’re winning, but we’re Democrats.

I would suggest looking at Clinton’s voting record, one of those other things we do have an actual record of. Her voting was nearly identical to his. And a very strong argument could be made that she’s more liberal than Bill.

In this polarized age the vote is pretty inelastic. Most Republicans will rally around their nominee so I expect Trump’s vote to be in the mid forties with a ceiling of about 48% if he can behave himself during the general election campaign to reassure more mainstream GOP voters.

Trump has a heavier load because he’s losing minorities. Latinos went for Bush at 30ish percent, if I recall. Trump has 7%. Plus, Latinos are registering in record numbers to vote against Trump. Hopefully that’ll help.

That’s what kills me, though. They’ll rally around him regardless of the shit that falls out of his mouth. In fact, if he were actually to start acting like an adult, he could possibly do better. This conversation came up on TPV, and I’m so disillusioned with Sanders that I think his persona in January, the Sanders we admired, was totally fake.

I have no trust or respect for him. How can I? When his campaign makes a pronouncement, whose voice is it really? Is it Devine? Weaver? Jane? Or Bernie?

Will we see the man that leaves Philadelphia with grace? Or will it be the man who will incite his followers in a scorched-earth maneuver?

We don’t know, and the more I learn of his character, the more I fear he’s Trump’s leftist counterpart.

I’ve met some folks up here who voted for Jesse, and have no regrets for doing so. He seemed to have some moments of real sanity with his light-rail and shall-issue legislation, but then went whacko when he wanted to let his lieutenant governor run the show for the last year?!

The betting odds have Trump winning the Presidency the same as the Cubs have of winning the World Series. That may seem encouraging. Everyone knows the Cubs are long-time losers. But the Cubs are the MLB’s best team this year. This is the best chance in my lifetime that my team might win a World Series. But its just as likely they won’t, and instead my country will elect an (overt) racist, demagogue, know-knowing. That’s hard to reconcile.

I had just started working for the state about two weeks before he was elected. Things got so screwed up by his growing inability to get along with anyone that about 50 people in my building (including me and a co-worker who’d been with the state for over 30 years) got laid off about 3 1/2 years after I started. A lot of people just got out the popcorn when everything turned into a train wreck, but he caused a lot of government services to go downhill and never recover. The state had to hire outside contractors to do the work that the laid off people had been doing for a long time.

I always skew Rassmussen a couple points left early in the campaign. They ‘refine’ their models to come up with reasonable numbers as the election nears. IIRC, Nate Silver doesn’t dismiss them out of hand, though that might have been before the new management.

The thing about the Rass poll…it has each candidate at 38%. That equals 76%. The rest say they will vote for someone else or stay home. This includes 25% of the Black vote.(I am doubtful)

I expect that will change over time even if those numbers are correct.

That said, I don’t think we can take anything for granted. This election is by no means already determined.

The #scorpions that scurry around Scottsdale, Arizona emerged from their winter slumber early this year. Usually dormant until late March, the creatures came out as temperatures soared in February, making a month that is generally pretty pleasant the second-warmest on record. Residents have been finding scorpions in their beds, in their showers, on walls inside and outside their homes and all over their yards. @caitlin_oh photographed this giant desert hairy #scorpion glowing under a #blacklight while on assignment in Scottsdale this month. The glow comes from a substance found inside a hard-and-thin coating on the scorpion’s exoskeleton. Scientists are not sure what purpose it serves. Some say it is to confuse prey; others believe it’s to protect scorpions from sunlight.
