Bottom Line: Donald Trump Blatantly Lied About His Veterans’ Fundraiser

This guy
Politics • Views: 48,368

OK, we all know politicians lie like badly crocheted rugs. But has there ever been a candidate for president of the United States who has been such a blatant, continual, unrepentant liar as Donald Trump? Four months after fundraiser, Trump says he gave $1 million to veterans group.

When asked Tuesday whether he had given the money this week only because reporters had been asking about it, Trump responded: “You know, you’re a nasty guy. You’re really a nasty guy. I gave out millions of dollars that I had no obligation to do.”

[…]

In the same interview, Trump said the fundraiser had raised about $5.5 million for veterans overall. He said he was not sure how much of it remained to be given away.

That also contrasted with the account last week from Lewandowski, who said that about $4.5 million had been raised and that Trump’s effort had fallen short of the promised $6 million because some unnamed big donors had backed out.

On Tuesday, Trump said no major contributors had reneged. “For the most part, I think they all came through,” he said. “Some of them came through very late.”

Trump also said he had never actually promised that the fundraiser had raised $6 million. “I didn’t say six,” he said.

But, in video of the event, Trump tells the crowd, “We just cracked $6 million! Right? $6 million.”

Trump was told that he did, indeed, say “$6 million.”

“Well, I don’t, I don’t have the notes. I don’t have the tape of it,” he said. “Play [the tape] for me. Because I’d like to hear it.” Before the video could be cued up, Trump had moved on.

Freaking unbelievable that this creepy dishonest over-privileged weirdo is with reach of the highest office of America.

I think if the media starts doing its job by hitting Trump with all of the verifiable lies that he’s told, he’ll have a complete melt down.

No one has ever talked to him like that and he won’t be able to handle it.

Shouldn’t that be $6 million? Isn’t that what he said the fund raiser was for, or does Trump always take an 80% cut?

Yes, but that’s a big if. I’m not going to go out and say anything about “left-wing” or “right-wing” media bias - I just think the media does a piss-poor job of actual journalism these days.

I know wanting to maintain the horserace narrative right down to the wire is the media’s main motivation, but it seems like a nonzero proportion might see precipitating the tRump blowup as a career-maker.

As much as I hated seeing my favorite craft, the one taught to me by my mother way back in the 1960s, used as a simile for lying politicians, I do have to admit it was clever.

And Donald Trump—the guy can’t hardly open his mouth without lying.

No, I hate to say it but that would be possibly the worst thing that could happen to our nation right now. If he died that way? The consipriacy theories would rip us to shreds. If we were lucky, we might end up with 12 nations in North America when the civil war ended.

No, the thing to pray for? Well, I never saw the movie version but I remember the ending of the King novel “The Dead Zone”. That kind of display of cowardice in public would be the best possible hope for us right now.

Speaking of RWNJs and their perceptions (and mis-perceptions) of communism, hate radio kingpin Sean Hannity routinely refers to Mayor De Blasio as a communist, or the “communist mayor,” as though it is an accepted fact. Closer to home, Lubbock radio drawler Robert Pratt similarly refers to President Obama as a Marxist in about the same tone one might use to call him a Democrat.

But call him a Nazi, and he’ll have a shit fit.

Did you know that Washington state was having a primary? No reason you should; the Democratic primary is a “beauty pageant,” and the GOP one is a foregone conclusion.

Anyway, in a state whose caucus Sanders won 73-27 (by far his biggest win in delegate terms anywhere), Hillary is up 51-49 in the early going. On the other side, Trump’s got 79 percent of the early vote.

It did. Washington has usually held caucuses for its Presidential votes, but in 2016 the state legislature approved primaries. The Republicans agreed to bind their delegates in the primary; the Democrats decided to hold their caucuses on March 22, leaving the primary as a “beauty contest” with no delegates attached. WTF?

forbes.com

One of Silicon Valley’s best-known investors has been footing a former wrestler’s legal bills in lawsuits against a shared enemy.

Peter Thiel, a PayPal cofounder and one of the earliest backers of Facebook FB +1.50%, has been secretly covering the expenses for Hulk Hogan’s lawsuits against online news organization Gawker Media. According to people familiar with the situation who agreed to speak on condition of anonymity, Thiel, a cofounder and partner at Founders Fund, has played a lead role in bankrolling the cases Terry Bollea, a.k.a. Hogan, brought against New York-based Gawker.

The involvement of Thiel, an eccentric figure in Silicon Valley who has advocated for teenagers to skip college and openly supported Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, adds another wrinkle to a case that has garnered widespread attention for its implications over celebrity privacy and a publication’s First Amendment rights. During court proceedings, which ended in late March with a $140 million victory for Hogan, there had been rumors that a wealthy individual had funded Hogan’s case though there was never any hard evidence that surfaced to prove that was true.

Bite my tounge until it bleeds
Stand aside ‘cause this is mine

I never thought I’d get this far my own
It’s just as hard as it seems

From the WA State Legislature

Intent.
The people of the state of Washington declare that:
(1) The current presidential nominating caucus system in Washington state is unnecessarily restrictive of voter participation in that it discriminates against the elderly, the infirm, women, the disabled, evening workers, and others who are unable to attend caucuses and therefore unable to fully participate in this most important quadrennial event that occurs in our democratic system of government.

(2) It is the intent of this chapter to make the presidential selection process more open and representative of the will of the people of our state.

(3) A presidential primary will afford the maximum opportunity for voter access at regular polling places during the daytime and evening hours convenient to the most people.

(4) This state’s participation in the selection of presidential candidates shall be in accordance with the will of the people as expressed in a presidential preference primary.

(5) It is the intent of this chapter, to the maximum extent practicable, to continue to reserve to the political parties the right to conduct their delegate selection as prescribed by party rules insofar as it reflects the will of the people as expressed in a presidential primary election conducted every four years in the manner described by this chapter.

The system is rigged alright. But Bernie don’t diss the caucus system. Funny, that.

A vigilant Prince William County police officer’s efforts to keep a junior high schooler from creating mayhem and disorder is not getting proper credit; instead, the juvenile delinquent’s mom seems to think there’s something wrong with handcuffing a middle school kid, suspending him from school, and charging him with larceny for “stealing” a 65-cent carton of milk — especially since the kid, Ryan Turk, was entitled to a free carton of milk to go with his free school lunch. WJLA-TV has the details on this latest incident of a cop being unjustly accused in the arrest of a dangerous thug:

And therein lies part of the problem with over-policing people of color. Yes, they do bad stuff sometimes, but it is impossible to tell from a news report what actually happened. Statistically minority neighborhoods are over-policed on the little stuff, but without adequate coverage of serious crime. It breeds resentment and exacerbates the problem.
Kids shouldn’t be wiseasses, but what kid hasn’t? Hell, I was practically the pattern-card for Goody Two-Shoes, but I occasionally mouthed off in middle school. I got sent out of the room. No one called the cops.

First of all, I think there’s a lot more to the story than what Wonkette is telling us. Second, What may have been a simple act of misconduct could very well have been exacerbated by the kid’s conduct. From what I’m reading about the kid’s conduct, maybe there was a legitimate issue for the police to intervene. Somehow I doubt anybody called the cops over a carton of milk.
If a school policeman happened to see him grab the milk and keep going, how is he supposed to know who is entitled to get free milk and who isn’t? Besides that, even the kids who get free milk probably don’t just walk up and grab it. The nuts and bolts of this story and the way that Wonkette frames it is just screaming that there is more going on here than somebody getting arrested for stealing free milk.

Unfortunately our elections are so “open” that everybody’s brains fall out. We used to be the only state where you didn’t have to register with a party. Then we wised up. A few years later, so many states had switched to the GOP Ratfucking system that we changed back.

The good news is, I’ve gotten two democrats to choose between in the General a couple of times. The bad news is, in Eastern Washington they probably get nothing but Republicans to vote for.

You know something? White people have also gotten along with black teenagers forever too. Most of my father’s students were black. Most of them adored my father. He still had to deal with wiseasses and their denying parents. He got accused of being bigoted all the time he had to discipline certain kids (only certain kids). Most of the time he just had to give his special look and the students would settle down and get back to business. (He had to bail out a lot of substitute teachers that way). My mother was a school nurse and she saw it countless times in the principal’s office. A parent demanding to know why they were picking on her child.
BTW, that wasn’t really a color issue, all kinds of parents insist their little angels never do anything wrong.

re: #167 SteveMcGaziBolaGate RN

Okay you’re right. We don’t know what totally happened but they are charging him with larceny over this. I don’t think that’s warranted at all.

Thanks for this info. I was hoping Bruner wouldn’t get the chance to spread her extremists views and further than she already has. Maybe now she’ll go sit her butt down, enjoy her retirement and stop posting crazy sh*t on Facebook.

Terrible person Mary Lou Bruner loses bid for Texas SBOE. A sigh of relief from me, since I grew up in that district and would have just lost all hope otherwise.

I made a Page, complete with a bunch of her seriously whacked out Facebook postings, curated by @ZackKopplin.

White people have also gotten along with black teenagers forever too

Categorically false. Black teenagers, especially male, have been overwhelmingly selected for suspicion, unfounded accusations of rape (of white daughters in particular), police brutality and the occasional street execution by cop. This has been going on for 300+ years.

Over 70% of black teens in New York (and elsewhere) report police harassment. One of my coworkers at Guilford Courthouse NMP (and African American federal law enforcement officer!!!!) had to rescue her own son during a visit to her sister in NYC when he stepped out the door of their townhouse and was immediately grabbed and arrested by NYPD officers for suspicion of God knows what. She told me how she ran through the house with her federal LE badge in hand and trying to get to the door before her husband did (and got himself and their kid shot).

White kids don’t worry about being arrested by the police the moment they step outside a door. White kids don’t worry about playing with toy guns. White kids generally don’t get the side-eye treatment when walking in public or get kicked out of a mall just for being there. White kids don’t have this happen.

I watched the video. I have no problem with the way it was handled. People shoplift and take things they don’t want or even need, even when they can afford it. When people start coming out of the woodwork and accuse the school of railroading other innocent kids, I’ll reconsider. There seems to be no indication of that. The kid’s mother doesn’t say anything about other families reaching out to her about similar tales of oppression. I think it seems likely that the kid went back to grab a carton of milk and instead of indicating to the people at the counter what he was doing, he just just grabbed it and walked away. Maybe he thought the cop who approached him had no right to do so. Well, bad news kid, the cop did have cause to approach and try to check out why a student grabbed something out of the line and walk away with it. If the kid had just said something abut it being a misunderstanding with the people at the counter that would probably have been the end of it. However that didn’t happen. The counter people aren’t coming to his defense and saying “Hey, he just forgot to take his milk and was getting it.” People aren’t leaping to his side. The only one is his mother. (and people who just want to bitch about how unfair the school is).

We’re going down different roads. I’ve had black employees who have to abide by different rules when they encounter cops. However, not once did any of my employees (of any race) show any signs of not being able to work with people of other races. I’m not trying to say that everything the cops do is right. I’m taking issue with this one story from Wonkette that I think is not being told honestly. Like I said above, when people start leaping to his defense or chronicling similar instances of overreach at this school, I’m open to reconsidering. I’m a conservative guy, I can certainly accept that there can be doubt. But at the same time I’m willing to let the people at the scene decide the issue instead of litigating it online, unless there is some reason to cause me to doubt the people on the scene.

No, I’d like to read more about his black friends and his complete lack of understanding of racial relations on the GLOBE throughout fucking HISTORY or the documented disparity in law enforcement outcomes based on race.

(Really, spellcheck? You recognize Bolshevik, but not Menshevik?)

Menshevik is a wine drunk by old people suffering from palette cancer.
