Wikileaks has been openly cheering on Donald Trump lately, after putting up a facade of being “impartial” during the election even as they clearly pursued a vendetta and smear campaign against Hillary Clinton. For example:

But today Wikileaks crossed a big red line and woke up a lot of people to their true agenda: they posted a tweet calling for the doxing of all “verified” Twitter users.

That tweet doesn’t look like a real embedded tweet because they’ve now deleted it, after a large number of Twitter users filed reports. Twitter’s @safety account even subtweeted Wikileaks (and this may have been why it was deleted):

So my wife didn’t want to deal with the weather this weekend up in the mountains and stayed home. She just called me. She’s sitting in our neighbor’s pre-school classroom with her and Craig, who went missing on December 14th…a few pounds lighter, and definitely in need of a bath…but he didn’t fall victim to the pack of coyotes in the neighborhood. I’m so fuckin’ happy for her…and Craig…and Eartha the other kitten, and Banjo…and me.

I just got an e-mail reminding me of an upcoming doctor’s appointment on Monday.

…except when I scheduled my physical, I scheduled it for Thursday. And of course I get the e-mail after the office has closed for the weekend, and the appointment is early enough in the day that I will just have to show up or else risk getting stuck with the bill for not showing up.

WTF? I don’t mind a change in my appointment time, but I would have thought that would warrant a phone call. I even logged in to check and it looks like my appointment on Thursday has just been moved to Monday, because there’s no record of an appointment on Thursday now. (I did check my e-mail records to see that yes, it was originally scheduled then.)

There’s a Steve Albini reboot of that album that’s really good - the band had a couple of days off and went to Albini’s studio and re-recorded all of it.

Did either of you (or any other lizard Cheap Trick fans) ever see this somewhat unknown movie from 1979. It was one of the first Orion Picture releases. It had Matt Dillon, Vincent Spano, Pamela Ludwig and a bunch of other real young actors.

It was about disenfranchised youth living in a hum-drum, planned community and revolting. It is not a great film, but decent and I guess it was based on a real story from somewhere in California. The kids get bored with it all and start to tear up the town, etc. They actually did the movie in Aurora Colorado close to Columbine. Strange that.

Cheap Trick songs are used throughout the film. I did like that.

Here is the YouTube of it in case anyone is bored and wants to watch it. It is long…3+ hours according to the time posted at YouTube. In a way it is a historical document of some of the “controlled community” thinking of the 70s

I think I’ve mentioned before, I saw them on one of their very first national tours when their first album had just started getting a lot of FM air play.

They started the set with “elo kiddies” and they had me as a fan after the first minute. They were that dynamic is their sound, look…everything!

I’d love to know what this asshole’s paychecks translated to in hourly wage over the past ten or twenty years.

One more thing: For obvious reasons, a disproportionate amount of overtime in this country goes to people whose jobs have to be done right now, tonight, no matter if the clock runs long: cops, firefighters, other first responders, as well as folks like electric linemen, snowplow operators, and on and on. These are the same people that GOP campaign commercials always portray as heroes, but of course many of them are union members, which means that what the GOP really wants to do is make them peons begging for minimum wage jobs. We actually had that happen to our cat about 30 years ago. She had a bad habit of snoozing on the raised door, which she was able to access from our Colt Vista’s roof, and one time we closed the door with her still atop. Although most of her was inside the garage with one leg pointing out through the first or second joint down from the door’s top.

Considering that we buried her 11 years ago, I’d say she came out of it just fine. Kittehs are very resilient. :-D

Duncan “rabbit transit” Hunter is one of those seeking to get rid of the Congressional Ethics office (I’m sure it has nothing to do with him using campaign funds to fly a pet rabbit to Washington, or his son using campaign funds to buy video games).

Rep. Hunter insists it’s not about censorship though.

I think Rep. Hunter has too much time on his hands, if his conservative fee-fees are hurt by a high school art project so much he needed to find staffers with a screwdriver to remove it.

Scheduled overnight low for tomorrow is 28 degrees out here on the islands abeam of Savannah. I think that will be the coldest I’ve seen here so far.

It’s currently splattering cold rain here, and the freeze line seems to be drawn from Norfolk to Montgomery. I’ve got a young friend (housemate’s boyfriend’s daughter - gotta love the chains of family out here) visiting with some other friends in Virginia, and planning on seeing Udvar-Hazy tomorrow, I hope she can make it OK.

As for me, I was thinking about day-tripping down to Daytona Beach tomorrow and kicking the tires on a Ducati 749 that I can’t afford without trading in my FZ1. I haven’t been to coastal Florida yet and I wouldn’t mind eye-humping some Italian moto goodness. Or, I could sleep in and then spend all day reading about South Carolina’s court system, in prep for the new part-time law office job I just landed across the river.

Study law, or go look at bikes… Argh, an embarrassment of fun choices.

My father was at Lowry AFB in Colorado when Singin’ In The Rain came out and despite dad being a wee bit nekulturny he well-remembered the stars of the times. Talking about Debbie Reynolds’ death, he told me a lot about how Kelly, Reynolds, Newman, Taylor, etc. were regarded at the time. They were royalty enough that even he noticed. He’s never been a film fan but he said Cat on a Hot Tin Roof in particular had a big impact for being bold about bad language and other naughty, dark things.

Of course, those things weren’t half as dark as the affairs and craziness happening between the Hollywood royalty themselves… Good old 1950’s.

The worst storm I ever drove in (that is, bad drivers) was on a trip from Florida to Virginia Beach. A huge snowstorm hit US-58 between Emporia and Virginia Beach, and I was plodding along in a Vega.

Road was littered with cars in the ditches. As I got to Chesapeake, I heard a call on the radio for “people with four-wheel drive trucks” to take nurses, doctors, and firefighters to work.

Interestingly enough, on Interstate 64, the sides of the road were littered with four-wheel drive trucks stuck off to the sides. Plodded right along in my Vega to the oceanfront (where I lived).

It’s more about driving safely in snow than “four-wheel drive.” (On the other hand, if there had been any place to stop along US-58 to wait out the storm, I would have done that instead.)

When I went to the general store this afternoon, US-26 (our one paved street) was covered entirely in ice. Plodding along very carefully and slowly got me to the store.

When I came out of the store, there was a four-wheel drive truck slid off the road into the front yard of the bed-and-breakfast here, and the fellow was spinning his wheels tearing up her yard trying to get out.

Jumped in my car, stopped by him, asked him if he wanted me to call someone to get him out. Nope, kept digging up her yard. I got home and called her daughter to let her know about the guy tearing up her yard with his truck.

I was wasting time one afternoon watching a YouTube channel called Dirt Every Day. It’s a guy who buys old 4WD vehicles and fixes them enough to take them off road. For one episode, he buys a Jeep Wagoneer to take a road trip with his bud and their wives to snow country. At their destination, he plows the Wagoneer along a snow covered road and gets totally stuck. He and his buddy must have spent hours trying to winch the truck out, and finally they gave up and asked someone else to pull them out.

During last year’s Snowocalypse weekend where the Nashville area got more than 6-8 inches, I logged about 500-600 miles over that weekend ferrying my fellow employees to and from work who lived in relative BFE, their apartments were downhill from the main roads and their cars were stuck, or they just couldn’t drive in the shit…and I drive a ‘09 Altima sedan.

23+ years on the road with the odd instance of winter driving experience counts for something, I suppose.

So many times … SO MANY TIMES while driving I’ve scooted past Subarus and SUVs stuck in a snowbank and I just went about my day. I drive a Toyota Corolla. Front wheel drive. I’ve had to chain up a handful of times, and when the road is completely fucked with snow and ice I just motor on.

Snow tires are very helpful. You can accelerate, brake, and corner better than regular tires.

All-weather tires are shit compared to good snow tires. Maybe it’s because I drive in snow a bunch, I have experience with both kinds of tires in snow and ice, and snow tires are pretty much a godsend. My mom switches out her tires on her Audi TT every winter to studded snow tires (those fuckers cost two grand for a set!) and she drives over Vail Pass in the worst conditions to visit the grandkids on the regular. With those tires in the winter she calls the TT her Tiny Tank. Doesn’t matter how bad the roads are, that little two-seater scoots over snow with the proper tires.

All-weather tires are shit compared to good snow tires. Maybe it’s because I drive in snow a bunch, I have experience with both kinds of tires in snow and ice, and snow tires are pretty much a godsend. My mom switches out her tires on her Audi TT every winter to studded snow tires (those fuckers cost two grand for a set!) and she drives over Vail Pass in the worst conditions to visit the grandkids on the regular. With those tires in the winter she calls the TT her Tiny Tank. Doesn’t matter how bad the roads are, that little two-seater scoots over snow with the proper tires.

I suppose I could get snow tires for the Smart, but generally if the weather is bad enough to require special equipment, I’d rather not go out at all.

It wasn’t a whole lot of fun going over Donner Pass when it was snowing like mad, but slow and steady kept my wife and me out of the stew pot. /s

The weather was much better when we came home and went through Vail Pass.

So many times … SO MANY TIMES while driving I’ve scooted past Subarus and SUVs stuck in a snowbank and I just went about my day. I drive a Toyota Corolla. Front wheel drive. I’ve had to chain up a handful of times, and when the road is completely fucked with snow and ice I just motor on.

Snow tires are very helpful. You can accelerate, brake, and corner better than regular tires.

The biggest thing with winter driving, especially here in Nashville where we don’t really get a lot of appreciable ice and snow every year, is to go slow, to give everyone on all sides plenty of space, and to be attentive, think ahead, and give yourself plenty of time to start, stop, and change direction.

People around here that drive SUVs, roided-up 4x4s, and Subies don’t tend to understand that, else they wouldn’t wind up in ditches or in pileups.

Frankly, TDOT and Nashville Public Works have plow attachments and salting/brining equipment for many of their dump trucks and, for the most part when the forecasts are right, have done fairly well in getting salt and brine down before snow/ice hits, then plowing the main roads and interstates over the past couple of years.

Our Snowocalypse weekend last January was pretty damn bad, the most snow I’d seen in a very, very long time and it pretty much shut the city down for a couple of days; TDOT and Nashville Public Works were doing what they could, but, at its peak, the snow was coming down faster that the salt (eventually diluting it and making it ineffective) or the plows could keep clear that first night.

Did either of you (or any other lizard Cheap Trick fans) ever see this somewhat unknown movie from 1979. It was one of the first Orion Picture releases. It had Matt Dillon, Vincent Spano, Pamela Ludwig and a bunch of other real young actors.

It was about disenfranchised youth living in a hum-drum, planned community and revolting. It is not a great film, but decent and I guess it was based on a real story from somewhere in California. The kids get bored with it all and start to tear up the town, etc. They actually did the movie in Aurora Colorado close to Columbine. Strange that.

Cheap Trick songs are used throughout the film. I did like that.

Here is the YouTube of it in case anyone is bored and wants to watch it. It is long…3+ hours according to the time posted at YouTube. In a way it is a historical document of some of the “controlled community” thinking of the 70s

Oh. Your. God. I have not thought about that movie in decades. It was in a seeming continuous loop on Prism, the Philly-area cable channel that was basically the Delaware Valley’s answer to HBO (although I don’t think it ever went national).

All I could tell you about that movie now is that it starred Matt Dillion and the kids rode around on bikes in a planned community that’s in the middle of nowhere. I literally do not remember the sound track, let alone Cheap Trick being a central part of it.

Speaking of decades past; Cheap Trick; and the fact I’m officially an old man now: It’s been 20 years since I saw Cheap Trick at the Y100 Fest (or something like that) at the Which Bank Owns It This Week amphitheater in Camden.

Highlights of that show:

• We had tickets in the pit; no official seats, but people who had tix in the front row never showed. We pretty much claimed those seats as our own. Got to sit down whenever we were tired. Probably save over $100 in ticket fees that day.

• I brought earplugs with me and was pretty much mocked for it until CT’s crew started setting up their equipment. Think of the first scene in Star Wars, only instead of a Star Destroyer going on forever, there were rows of amplifiers. The mocking pretty much ceased at that point.

• I remember CT being really good. A friend of mine told me later that the sponsoring radio station had a really young employee interview the band. This guy had no idea who they were, and referred to them as a “new” band. In 1996. Apparently, the band kept calling themselves a new band all throughout the interview.

• I did have an official Rick Neilsen pick, thrown by the man himself, although I have no idea where it is now.

• At age 30, I was easily one of the oldest people in the audience. It’s all been downhill since.

• Not from this concert, but Cheap Trick related. At some point, CT was based in Philly. They were the headliner of a free Camden County Park concert a while back, and talked about how they lived above a delicatessen around 22nd and Market. Doesn’t say much about Philly’s presence in the national rock scene that CT had to move to Chicago to make it big.

We’re awaiting a package that should have been delivered a couple days ago.

My wife just checked the delivery company’s Website. They say that due to the treacherous road conditions in our area, they are delaying deliveries two more days.

I’m good with that, having driven just a couple blocks in town, I can’t imagine a delivery driver coming sixty miles from their distribution centre - we didn’t order anything that we need so desperately that we need to risk the life of a truck driver.

If they want Mr. Trump out (and they’re the ones who let him in originally), let them do the lifting to either impeach him or sideline him with the XXV Amendment to make Gov. Pence Acting President.

They keep Mr. Trump and he will destroy the credibility of the GOP (something that more reasonable people like Senator Lindsay Graham understand). They oust or sideline him and the GOP is torn apart by Trump supporters.

Well, I’m not really big on whichever party is in the minority becoming nothing but obstruction (that brings governance to a halt).

On things where there is compromise I am not opposed to Democrats negotiating with Republicans. On non-starter issues (such as stiffing Planned Parenthood on legitimate payments - not the right-wing propaganda “defunding Planned Parenthood”) yup, I’m all in on using any legislative tool to prevent it.

There might be a defection or two from the Democrats if the GOP brings up impeachment. I suspect there would be GOP defections to the Democrats on that too (for example, my own representative in this overwhelmingly Trump-leaning district - if he were to stand against Trump he would be primaried).

Quite likely. I suppose his plan was to hide out in the embassy, expecting Ecuador could somehow whisk him away to South America. He didn’t count on the Metro Police and Interpol being on his tail, essentially trapping him inside the embassy indefinitely. Ecuador does not want to create an international incident by sneaking him out of England, so his starry-eyed dream cannot come true.

Given what I know of Assange, his ego demands he is always right and everyone else is always wrong, so he will blame his unfortunate situation on everyone involved — except himself. A prisoner of his own device.

My wife and I bailed out of Oklahoma when Mary Fallin was elected: One of the first things Oklahoma did was require all drivers to submit “safety paperwork” signed off by specialist physician (and only gave two month’s notice) to renew a license.

Under the new licensing laws, I would have been required with epilepsy to submit to eighteen different specialists, while my wife would have been required to see eleven. It was cheaper to buy a house in a different state than comply with Oklahoma’s new laws. Moreover, driving laws require annual updates from all those specialists.

I went to bed after posting the Cheap Trick video. What a band. I was too young, but my brother saw them regularly at the Red Lion Inn in Champaign, Il in the ’70s before they broke. But he had all of their records through the ’80s, so I loved them early on. In college my roommate was head of the concert board and no one else ever showed up for meetings, so he and I would just choose bands we liked (and there was a considerable budget). For an outdoor show we got Cheap Trick (probably 1986) once—no one knew them except for “I Want You to Want Me.” But they played some of their back catalogue and just kicked ass. (We also had Hoodoo Gurus, The Bangles, Elvis Costello w/ Nick Lowe, Billy Bragg, and a few others I can’t recall.) Good times!

My father worked in the Norfolk/Chesapeake area for a few years in the mid-90s and his experience mirrored yours exactly. Bad weather = pickup trucks in the ditches. 4WD just means all four wheels skid at once. ;) My vanilla FWD Mazda3 wagon soldiered through some of the worst winter weather I’ve been through in my life in last year’s “Goliath” storm without a twitch. You gotta know road feel and road physics, the rest is commentary. And good tires, those help too.

(OK, there was one twitch in Santa Fe, but that was a tight turn uphill into a gas station, which was on an uphill itself… One squidgy moment in sixteen hours of driving ain’t bad.)

Saw Cheap Trick at the Newport in 1991. One of my OSU students was in a band that opened for them. I still have (somewhere) a CT guitar pick, and the awesome red boots I wore to the concert!

Heh, the Heap Trick show I saw on the original national tour was at The Agora, which as you know became the Newport. One of the oldest and to me great concert venues in America. Of course, being right across the street from Ohio State University with it’s many tens of thousands of students makes for ready crowds.

Damn, the memories in that building are great. I probably saw at least 100 shows there.

All-weather tires are shit compared to good snow tires. Maybe it’s because I drive in snow a bunch, I have experience with both kinds of tires in snow and ice, and snow tires are pretty much a godsend. My mom switches out her tires on her Audi TT every winter to studded snow tires (those fuckers cost two grand for a set!) and she drives over Vail Pass in the worst conditions to visit the grandkids on the regular. With those tires in the winter she calls the TT her Tiny Tank. Doesn’t matter how bad the roads are, that little two-seater scoots over snow with the proper tires.

‘08 VW Rabbit for me. And I run Dunlop Winter Sport tires. Standard 5-speed with the 2.5 5 cylinder and the “anti-slip” feature that uses the anti-lock brake feature sorta in reverse to stop any wheel spin. I too have to drive around and pass 4-wheel drive vehicles…many times driving down the middle of the damn road taking up all the space. I don’t know how it is done, but I’ve seen people in the larger SUV (Escalades, Explorers, etc.) take up 3 lanes!!!

Woke up to 20 degrees here in South Austin. It’s 28 now, so 33 consecutive hours at or below freezing. You rarely see that here. I spent three years in the Air Force flying out of K. I. Siberia AFB in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, so I know what really cold is, but the fine Democrats in the this little blue pimple in central Texas find this very very foreign, and since I won’t have the opportunity to say this much longer…

She Who Must Be Obeyed is playing orchestra in Kerrville today, so I am rattling around the house cleaning up after last night’s annual Twelfth Night neighborhood party, where we had forty people (in an 1,100 sq ft house) eating duck/sausage gumbo, slap-yo mama greens, and port infused mushrooms in a heavy cream sauce reduction. They left happy, and I’m washing dishes and wine glasses.

And Trump is still as crazy as a run-over turkey. What a card!

21° with light snow here. Not unusual for January in Jersey. I’m actually surprised we haven’t gotten more snow—it’s been a pretty mild winter so far.

Speaking of really old, in my formative years, I went to the Agora. The one in Athens, Greece.

In the Agora of Athens there were confectioners who made pastries and sweets, slave-traders, fishmongers, vintners, cloth merchants, shoe-makers, dress makers, and jewelry purveyors. A special separate ‘potters market’ was reserved for the buying and selling of cookware as that was considered solely the provenance of women and was frequented by female slaves on task for their mistresses or by the poorer wives and daughters of Athens.

I wonder if we were at some of those great shows at the same time. I would almost bet on it. Many times I was right down front in the floor seating area. I lived there.

Remember when they would have $.50 midnight shows? I saw Canned Heat at one of those and I think we didn’t get out of there until like 4:00 AM!

In the ‘73-‘74 college school years I lived just off the Ohio State campus in a three floor apartment just about at the end of Norwhich St. just up from The Varsity Club and Tuttle park, even though I went to CCAD downtown. I had a good friend at OSU and we got a place together with two other dudes for that one year.

It was great because we could walk up to High Street and hit the bars and The Agora…and then “walk” back home without having to drive. The ideal situation for a not yet 21 year old that had older friends that slipped me the hard stuff to go along with all the smokeables.

Ahhh…memories! And I do remember.

Then, on Sundays, when the Sarene was closed, we’d go to the Sugar Shack—I think we’ve talked before about some of the big groups who played there “before they were famous.”

That routine still left time for concerts, other lesser bars, parties and occasional studying while in school/working when I got out.

I bet a ton of the Lizards can readily name the band…I see a lot of comments about them here. That I believe was their first big America tour, as their first hit had just come out, and I bet that is the song they are doing since everyone is getting into it.

The Sarene house band was The Apocalypse (their earlier name was 4 Knights and a Dave—which was Dave Harris; not to be confused with Jimmy Harris, who was lead singer for another band that played the Sugar Shack a lot.)

They put out a record—cover of “I Dig Your Act.” I was at the recording session (and the after-party at TJ’s Barbecue—when it was an illegal pit barbecue place off E. 5th)

ESPN - Russian cyberattacks influenced by WADA investigation

Intelligence officials believe that Russian hacking efforts made against the United States were done in part as retaliation for a World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) investigation that led to dozens of Russians being banned from the Rio de Janeiro Olympics.

The 25-page report published Friday, compiled with information from the CIA, the FBI and the National Security Agency, says Russian President Vladimir Putin included the Olympic doping scandal as an example of “US-directed efforts to defame Russia, suggesting he sought to use disclosures to discredit the image of the United States and cast it as hypocritical.”

The report stated that Russia has also targeted WADA and Olympic athletes in efforts to release or change personal data, deface websites and release emails. It also noted that a Russian cyberespionage group had published the records of athletes with clearance to take typically banned substances for medical reasons.

Russian news media and sports officials have pointed to those records as evidence that Western athletes have been given preferential treatment and are doping

“It is impossible to know just how deep and how far back this conspiracy goes,” McLaren said last month. “For years, international sports competitions have unknowingly been hijacked by Russians. Morning Lizards.

I woke up to a bunch of mentions on my Twitter because one of the bigger cross stitch streamers on Twitch (yes, this is a thing) mentioned my app and was very happy with it. Always a really nice way to wake up, to see people appreciating the work you did.

It’s raining here. mr. klys’s fever appears to be down, so there’s maybe a small chance he’ll be feeling well enough to go into the city for whatever my Christmas surprise is supposed to be. (The reservations are non-changeable and non-refundable so I’d really like to go …not to mention I’d like to find out what it is…)

This weekend is actually the big marathon weekend down at Walt Disney World - the only full marathon runDisney does (runDisney being who I am doing my half with) and the weather has not played nicely with them. They cancelled this morning’s half marathon and the kids races because of the potential for lightning in the race area. Hoping that doesn’t happen with my race next weekend! (Also, that mr. klys keeps his damn flu to himself.)

I do want to do the full marathon there at some point, but I really should finish a half first. Well, officially. I’ve run a half at this point.

Still, with the FEMA camps finally ready we should be able to round up a shit load of patriots, libertarians, and dudebros in that time.
Expensive as the program was, slipping all that micro-chipped ammo into the system the last few years will help a lot. Good thing we had our own gun experts so we knew to add chipped caps for hand-loaders. Just flip a switch at the Denver HQ and every time a defiant gun-humper goes to squeeze the trigger, his AR-15 will burst into flames and melt down into a hunk of twisted and charred plastic and steel right in front of him. Since they love to film themselves shooting we should be able to get some very amusing video out of this.

We’re up to a toasty 40 degrees here in Houston after low 20s overnight. Another such hard freeze again tonight. The park turns our water off in a hard freeze and I haven’t even bothered to go out to reconnect since it’s gonna be gone again soon. My hose is probably still froze anyway. I got my water jugs for necessities and wine for fluid sustenance. Been on a cooking spree so my fridge is filled with the most excellent nosh.

And there’s football in an hour! I’m calling it a good day.

The clear skies this morning let me catch an effect I’ve only seen a couple of times. There’s a pointy peak on our eastern horizon. As the Earth’s axis tilts, the sunrise goes from north of the peak to south of the peak, where it stays for a few weeks. Today was the day the sun rose first on the north side, then got high enough to shine from behind the narrower peak on both sides. It looked like two suns, one each north and south. Then I quit watching so I could retain my vision. Tomorrow it will be all north, until next December 3rd. It’s usually too cloudy or hazy to see it.

I checked the current map and it looks like Long Island is right in the center of the storm and it is streaming straight out of Virginia across the Chesapeake Bay and the edge of the coast and heading your way for what looks like hours of storm to go.

I was just looking at the Weather Channel online and saw your comment. I checked the current map and it looks like Long Island is right in the center of the storm and it is streaming straight out of Virginia across the Chesapeake Bay and the edge of the coast and heading your way for what looks like hours of storm to go.

Good luck. This looks like a heavy one.

We’re good, for the most part. Vehicles are gassed up, food in the house, new guitar down in the studio. :)

I should go out and stock up on smokes, though. We may have friends/bandmates coming over tonight and if we start drinking everybody’s gonna bum smokes off of me.

I have always made a point of listening to Sandy Denny’s “Who know where the Time Goes” in the late fall. I grew up in Western Pennsylvania and associate it, and her singing in general, with that time of year.

I’m so sick of the term ‘snowflake’ and how Trumpers think they’re delivering a sick burn by calling people that. All it shows me is they don’t have an original thought in their empty little heads.

It’s an interesting question.

My sense is:

China has benefitted from the global system the US has set up and maintained. And was likely to contine to do so for some time.

However, strategically, things have changed since the 1970’s when the only way China could drop a nuclear bomb on a a location would have been to build a tower over the spot and push the bomb off of it. They are looking to see how they can benefit from this change.

China either has, or will shortly have the world’s largest economy. The US percentage of global economy is shrinking. There is debate on the cost of maintaining the world’s global financial and other systems versus the cost of giving up on them. Certainly, no one trusts most other countries to run them in as altruistic a way as we have.

I suspect that even if we survive the Trump period, we will have lost control over those systems.
