At Least One of Trump’s “Under-Reported Terror Attacks” is a Fake, Started By Pamela Geller and Robert Spencer

Despicable
Politics • Views: 44,201

Our Deplorable In Chief included at least one murder in his list of “under-reported terror attacks” that was no terror attack at all. He exploited the death of this young woman for his own egomaniacal purposes.

The mother of a young backpacker killed in an Australian hostel has criticized President Donald Trump’s claim that her daughter’s murder was a terror attack ignored by the media.

Rosie Ayliffe said terrorism links were quickly ruled out in last year’s fatal stabbing of Mia Ayliffe-Chung, 20, and a fellow British tourist — Tom Jackson, 30 — who tried to save her life.

The killings were included on a list of 78 attacks the White House says were “executed or inspired by” Islamic fundamentalists. It was distributed to back up Trump’s comment on Monday that the media “doesn’t want to report” such attacks.

UPDATE at 2/8/17 3:06:16 pm by Charles Johnson

A quick Google search for this poor young woman’s name reveals that this fraudulent claim originated at the far right blogs of Robert Spencer and Pamela Geller.

Fannin County [GA] Sheriff Dane Kirby confirmed that Gibbs’ car tested positive for ricin, a deadly poison that is found in castor beans. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the substance can come in the form of a powder, a mist, a pellet, or can be dissolved in liquid and just a small amount of it can kill. The CDC notes, “It would take a deliberate act to make ricin and use it to poison people.”
………
Gibbs’ Facebook profile indicates the 27-year-old white man is a member of the Georgia Church Of Creativity C.A and is a self-identified “White Racial Loyalist.”

This is a thing on Twitter lately - whenever you suggest Donald Trump may not be completely sane and may need psychological help, people berate you about “stigmatizing mental health.”

I’m not even going to get into this one because I know how this goes on Twitter; as soon as I say a single word to debate this, 50 people will pile on. But this is NOT “stigmatizing mental health,” it’s stigmatizing Donald Freaking Trump. I’ve seen a similar push, coming most strongly from disabled activists (for lack of a better word) - although that might simply be because of how the cross-section of people I follow on Twitter goes. And to some extent, I can sympathize.

At the same time, the Presidency is not a normal job. It is okay to have a higher standard there. I’m honestly more concerned about the possibility for dementia/Alzheimer’s than I am other mental illnesses, because it is possible to be a completely functional member of society as long as those are being treated. But it is okay to look at erratic behavior in public and say “this isn’t right” when the person exhibiting that behavior has the ability to launch nukes. Full stop.

Even Joey was wondering where that all came from. He thought it odd that McConnell, ordinarily a good game playing politician* would do that as it actually makes Warren a martyr.

I bet it came from Bannon and the Trump gang. McConnell probably was threatened to get in there and put a stop to her, we are sick of her act.

How can reading a letter be defamatory?

Tim had to chime in:

“What I took issue with last night, and the true violation of Rule XIX in my eyes, were the remarks shared last night originally stated by Sen. Kennedy, not Coretta Scott King,” Scott said. McConnell specifically referenced King’s letter, and did not mention Kennedy’s words.

Neither of these propositions seems remotely plausible.

re: #6 Shiplord Kirel
And I should add, old friend, I respectfully disagree with that statement. Not directed at you. At Johnny Ambien.
John McCain never apologised for dragging Sarah Palin out as a viable human to be considered for a position of power. Senator McCain has repeatedly stood with the party over and against the very people he served with and purportedly represents. The only thing I have seen outside of his partisan hack job is the ability to chirp up every once in awhile, act as if he gets it, and then fade away. He was spat upon by Trump, as were all the surviving POWs, and all Johnny could muster was words. Still supported Trump. VOTED TRUMP. Said Trump owed an apology to those he sullied. Not Johnny. JOHNNY GETS PAID. The spit wasn’t even dried when he again asked for an apology. He never got it. But that was not the point. Ambien Johnny’s fellow servicemen and women were spat upon, and Johnny did what Johnny does. GOT PAID. So this last talk about him and Lindsay “Lion” Graham going to act out a 3 part nonpartisan play about the purported Russian influence in our….ZZZZZZZZZ….So Senator McCain points out the sacrifice of those who came before to an ignoramus called Spicer and this is what? Nothing. Nothing. Senator McCain stopped serving his fellow veterans and servicemen and women years ago. Words. Empty words. Senator McCain enrages me for what he could be. And he never will be that. So the crumbs that fall from his plate? Words that he speaks? Empty words. Useless.
I can find no soul, however thin, in this version of the GOP. None. SENATOR McCain can go walk off a roof. That’s what a lot of his fellow vets did, with scant help from Johnny.
Rant off. Fuck the GOP. McCain pisses me off to no end. Here’s some of his stellar work.

Of COURSE it will be a white male Southern Republican senator (Graham) coming to the defense of another white male Southern Republican senator’s (McConnell) silencing a female Democratic senator (Warren) who had the audacity to read a letter from a black female civil rights icon (Coretta Scott King) that was critical of the racism of another white Southern Republican senator (Sessions).

Never mind that Graham’s words were his own and basically were his “don’t speak unless spoken to” demeaning of Warren - much more in line with what the senate decorum rule is about.

For all of Gorsuch’s faults, he is still a Circuit Court Judge. Judges really do not like it when Congress or the Executive branch try to influence them or otherwise attack them. Our system of government has worked, in large part and with very few exceptions, because both the Executive and the Legislature are willing to be bound by the decisions of the Judiciary. Likewise, the Judiciary has developed the Political Question Doctrine in order to allow the other two branches some latitude in how they handle certain matters. No matter how right wing a judge or Justice is, they are not going to take kindly to one of the other branches trying to marginalize them.

Republicans have no shame. They won’t regret a thing until everyone else makes them regret.

I admit, the extent to which this is true has surprised me. And it’s not just the GOP leadership, it’s the rank-and-vile as well.

The very same people who claimed that money going to the Clinton Foundation, from which the Clintons derive no income, was TREASON!!!, but the Trump Organization, whose profits directly enrich the new President, can solicit business from foreign governments, and they see nothing wrong with that.

It’s made me question whether good really does triumph over evil, and whether the arc of the moral universe really does bend toward justice. I have never believed that the ends justify the means, but we are facing an opponent who is not shackled by honor, consistency, morality, honesty, or even basic logic.

I’ve seen NeverTrump Conservatives say they warned people that someone like Trump might take over the Tea Party, but in fact, Trump is simply the Tea Party distilled.

re: #174 KGxvi

SCOTUS took a giant steaming dump over these ideals in the 2000 election, and the behavior of the court’s conservatives since then does not inspire confidence. They are also Republicans, for whom ‘party above country’ is a way of life.

1. Don’t need you to defend me to further your own agenda. You don’t really give a shit about me.

2. If you really care about the mentally ill, support the ACA.

3. Donald Trump is unable to function in his role as president. Something is wonky in his brain. I personally believe it’s narsissism, as do people much more qualified than me. It’s dangerous and it’s not treatable. He is unfit for office.

4. Mental illness is a vast, vast, complex topic. Learn a bit before you lump us all under the same label. And you’re still a dick.

The Tea Party was the distillation of the GOP, the inevitable result of pursuing the Southern Strategy and the politics of white revanchism. What is most disappointing is finding the Constitution makes it possible for a minority of the population, if favorably dispersed geographically, to take control.

Like many people, now that I’m older and retired I’ve had occasional regrets about things I wish I’d done, or done differently when I had the chance. I don’t feel that way as much anymore. With the insanity that passes for reality these days, I’m glad I was able to live most of my life in better, more rational times. I feel that I’ve live through the apex of civilization and am staring (and sliding) down the slope into a dark time. I’m really starting to pity the next generation and do not regret my choice not to have a family of my own.

I only wish I’d had a few more years of retirement to enjoy before all this happened…

At least Coloradoan and Chicagoan make more sense than Alabamian, since it really is just ‘-an’ tacked on to the original name. It’s not ‘Alabami’ after all, except in slang. And even that’s spelled ‘Alabammy’ anyway.

A Cranky One  Feb 8, 2017 • 6:20:56pm

re: #64 The Vicious Babushka

Sociopaths don’t experience the same stress that normal people would feel from such a high pressure position.

True. I doubt that Trump feels any regret or responsibility for the death of the SEAL in the botched Yemen raid. It’s the responsibility of the position that takes a toll on normal presidents. Trump has no responsibility to anyone but himself, so doubtless doesn’t fret about things like the deaths of other people.

However, narcissists do stress greatly about negative attention. Trump can’t tolerate being laughed it. So SNL is creating definite stress in Trump. Simply mocking him in ways he can’t or won’t ignore freaks him out. Which puts it on the top of my resist Trump playbook.

He wants and needs undeserved respect (and has already complained about not getting it), so protests have a role as well. The blatant disrespect is impossible for him to ignore, so I’m sure they contribute to his stress. So in my playbook.

Narcissists also can’t handle being blamed or made responsible for anything bad that results from their actions. Everything, even if it requires some incredibly convoluted “reasoning” to get there, is someone else’s fault. One of the quickest ways, in my experience, to really upset a true narcissist is to assign blame to them. I’ve seen history revised, lies told, evasions, DARVO, etc. in attempts to refuse to accept any responsibility. And we see Trump manifesting the same behaviors. So we need to be loud and clear about things that are his fault.

We’re on the right track to make Trump’s hair fall out. At which point, he’ll resign. ;-)

Present-day Republicans are the party of bigotry in a way that is unprecedented in US history. Before the civil rights realignment, bigots and anti-bigots could be found in both parties. Now the bigots are almost always Republicans and the anti-bigots are almost always Democrats.

So we need to be loud and clear about things that are his fault.

as I was saying…

The ban isn’t popular with anyone but Trump’s base and Bannon. People are blaming him for the issues created, so it has to be someone else’s fault. Someone more powerful than the president. Hmmmm….could it be Bannon Satan?!?!?!

322

top500.org

While US-based firms such as Google, Facebook and Microsoft still dominate the artificial intelligence space, Chinese counterparts like Baidu, Tencent, and Alibaba are quickly catching up, and in some cases, surpassing their US competition. As a consequence, China appears to be on a path to reproduce its success in supercomputing in AI.

As should be apparent to anyone following this space, the technology duo of supercomputing and AI are not unrelated, the most recent example being the triumph of the Libratus poker-playing application over four of the best players in the game. Libratus’s software was developed at Carnegie Mellon University, but schooled at the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center using the Bridges supercomputer. In fact, Libratus was tapping into Bridges at night during the poker tournament, refining its poker tactics, while the human players slept. In fact, all the technologies discussed below rely on some sort of HPC platform.

But while it’s relatively straightforward, although not necessarily easy, to build supercomputing systems, developing AI software requires more cutting-edge talents. And until a few years ago, much of that talent resided inside US-based companies and universities. No more. In fact, a US government report determined that the number of academic papers published in China that mentioned “deep learning” exceeds the number published by US researchers.

Well, way back last February, Tim was quite upset about the yam in regard to David Duke:

“Any candidate who cannot immediately condemn a hate group like the KKK does not represent the Republican Party, and will not unite it.”

Then in June, during the Curiel situation, Scott condemned Trump’s comments as “racially toxic,” but said he would still support Trump
(and brought up Robert Byrd)

Then by September… Tim Scott pleaded with evangelical Christians and conservatives to cast their votes for Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.

and once the yam won, Scott called on communities of color to give President- elect Donald Trump a chance.

So, I guess you could say—Tim Scott has no particular convictions about anything.
