Oh No! Rob Quist Saw Naked People! (Goes to Wonkette)
The gist of the article is the Washington Free Beacon dug up information that Democratic candidate for Montana’s at-large House seat once sang at a nudist camp with his daughter.
They then insinuated all sorts of stuff about Rob Quist and his daughter. The article form the Free Beacon was re-written (badly) by the Conservative Tribune (whatever that is, I’m glad Rebecca takes the hit for finding this stuff, not me), and is now spreading rapidly across the Wingnuttosphere to conclude - well something immoral about Rob Quist.

Tennessee Lawmakers Claim They Were Tricked into Supporting a Resolution Honoring a Ku Klux Klan Leader (goes to Talking Points Memo—more at the link):
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — After voting unanimously for a resolution honoring a Confederate general, slave trader and early Ku Klux Klan leader, Tennessee lawmakers denounced the measure Thursday and said they were tricked into supporting it.
“This is a national embarrassment,” said Democratic Rep. Antonio Parkinson, an African-American from Memphis.
Most House members didn’t know they had voted for the resolution until after reading an Associated Press report that described how the language about Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest had been included in a resolution honoring author Shane Kastler.

ICE is upset with the trolling over their taxpayer-funded phone line monument to racism.
Fusion on Thursday asked Immigration and Customs Enforcement for a response to the people who called them to talk about space aliens, and an agency spokesperson angrily lashed out by calling everyone who participated in the prank “despicable.”
“I hope you won’t dignify this group with the attention they are seeking,” the spokesperson told Fusion. “But if you choose to do so… this group’s cheap publicity stunt is beyond the pale of legitimate public discourse. Their actions seek to obstruct and do harm to crime victims; that’s objectively despicable regardless of one’s views on immigration policy.”
Yeah, no. This has nothing to do wishes of “crime victims.” It is Der Stürmer in English.

This is probably late in the game, but Wall Street did not pay Obama. Anybody saying that is either lying or doing propaganda.
Obama gave a price (which, out of self preservation as well as to make money, was very high). The conference decided to see if they could meet it, so they threw out a few feelers to different sources to see if they could get funding. It happened that the one who did was a Wall Street firm; it could have been a private foundation or an individual, but it came up that it was a Wall Street firm. And at most, the firm got a private meet (probably no more than a few minutes or a photo op) and the cachet of being in the same room as a popular former president.

Call me crazy, but I would think that the federal government would not need a hotline to hear from “crime victims,” that such information could be attained from state and local governments. That the people most likely to call such a hotline are the same cranks who called the FBI in the immediate aftermath of 9/11 reporting anybody who looked the least bit swarthy for “suspicious behavior.”

Spreading some late night sanity:
Astronomy Picture of the Day
Explanation: Some 60 million light-years away in the southerly constellation Corvus, two large galaxies are colliding. Stars in the two galaxies, cataloged as NGC 4038 and NGC 4039, very rarely collide in the course of the ponderous cataclysm that lasts for hundreds of millions of years. But the galaxies’ large clouds of molecular gas and dust often do, triggering furious episodes of star formation near the center of the cosmic wreckage. Spanning over 500 thousand light-years, this stunning view also reveals new star clusters and matter flung far from the scene of the accident by gravitational tidal forces.

Is Trump holding a map of the elections results in this picture? https://t.co/YQn7Xwk4fe
— andrew kaczynski 🤔 (@KFILE) April 28, 2017
All Trump does is reminisce about an election he got fewer popular votes and constantly mischaracterizes the EV outcome.
He had no clue what he was getting himself into. He has no intellectual curiosity or stamina to do the job. Everything he was saying Clinton and his GOP opponents (weak, lacking stamina, sick, etc.,) were projections of his own awful condition and self-evaluation.
His campaign was a shitshow of empty platitudes and nonsensical ravings, and his supporters loved it because he was going to show DC.
Well, now Trump admits that everything is tougher in the WH. It’s not easy, or even as easy as his cushy real estate business that he inherited. You will get savaged in the media for pushing bullshit talking points and empty or ignorant plans.
None of this is easy, and anyone paying attention to Trump during the campaign knew that he lacked the character and judgment to be president. Every single one of those warnings has already come true.
He’s also complaining that it’s a solitary existence in the WH. Well, again, not news - every president knows that it’s a fishbowl. But if Trump wants to do the job, he better stop rushing off to play golf and start reading PDBs and the heavy lifting. He ought to also nominate all the positions he’s still left unfilled.
But he wont do any of that, because that’s hard work.
If Trump wants a solitary existence, I can offer up a better option. Florence ADX comes to mind. He and his cronies all deserve to have 3 squares and a bit of exercise time, but no golf. Or gold leaf everywhere. It’ll be on taxpayer dime, but taxpayers will find that this is a better arrangement than what we’re currently experiencing.

Of course, if you’re a businessman and thinking about expanding operations or even starting a new business, and if a complete nimrod who is completely unpredictable was elected President, would you take that risk?
Businesses and entrepreneurs like certainty and predictability, and those words are the last words someone would use to describe Trump.

Trade policy (anywhere)? Who knew?
I’ll tell you who knew - experts. The people Trump isnt’ consulting with. He surrounded himself with cronies, ignorants, and incompetents, and his supporters all love him for this.
If and when Trump fails, and he’s already failing, his supporters aren’t blaming Trump. Nope, this Party of Personal Responsibility™ will blame nefarious conspiracies, Deep State, Democrats, the GOP, and everyone but Trump. Trump’s a mirror on his supporters, and they think everything is so easy and can be fixed with this one simple thing.
They’ve bought into so much right wing baffling BS that it’ll take decades of deprogramming to resolve.
Reality is that the Russia scandals should have stopped Trump during the campaign - all his contacts, business dealings, the advisers with shady pasts, etc., and none of it mattered. To his supporters, they still don’t.
And GOPers in Congress aren’t budging either, because they rely on these same voters for their seats. They’re beholden to the Beast they’ve created.
I will be so angry and disappointed if civilization as we know it is irrevocably fucked by two idiots in Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un.

Direct talks? There was a reason that the US didn’t do direct talks - namely that our allies and regional partners, as well as China and Russia wanted to have a say, since they’re all in the firing line.
The Six Party Talks occurred for a reason, and direct talks cut out South Korea, Japan, China, and Russia from the equation, and there’s no reason to do so.

Yeah, but bringing in “allies and regional partners” in re North Korea would be going against the grain of the simpleminded crapola that (disgracefully) passes for foreign-policy principle in the Trump Administration.
A large part of his campaign (as we can see, the only part of his recent experience that the Idiot-in-Chief deems relevant) was based on pushing a “tough” line that “we” (the US) ought to act more in “our own interests” , i.e. unilaterally; and that even considering the priorities of a bunch of grubby cheating foreigners is a sign of weakness. Also, an affront to the natural order of American “leadership”, by which Trump (like most American wingnuts) conflates/confuses with “they do as we say, without question”. And most importantly, the Admin hopes “solving” the NK problem “directly” will lead to the main outcome that the President is constantly seeking:
IT WILL MAKE HIM LOOK GOOD.
God bless America…

A good friend and former bandmate of mine does music for Fox - he wrote the ‘new’ Fox News theme that they used to replace the old one, after they realized that the guy who wrote the old one was making too much money in residuals from having the theme played multiple times an hour.
He got a foot in the door through a high school friend who worked at Fox - the guy was brought in by Ailes personally. My friend says that his former schoolmate used to be a liberal, but when they met to talk about my friend doing bumper music for Fox, the guy had changed completely - he was totally anti-Obama, and he spent most of their first meeting talking about which employees in his office he’d like to screw.
The guy makes a million a year. I guess for that kind of money you an give up your conscience and join the boys’ club. You can bet that anyone who works there (at least in upper management) is every bit as big a douchebag as Ailes was.

Disagree: this is, IMO, one of those purely “legislative” things where the basic idea is to punt the problem down the road a bit: at least now the House “leadership” can’t blame Democrats for a government shutdown. For now, anyway: they’ll have a whole week to flog that line, if need be.

WaPo:
The organizers of the Fyre Festival promised “two transformative weekends” on a “remote and private” island” in the Bahamas that was “once owned by Pablo Escobar.” Kendall Jenner promoted it on Instagram. Ja Rule was one of the organizers. Festival-goers paid thousands of dollars for what they believed was going to be a luxury experience. Anyone who could afford the ticket would arrive in paradise on a private jet with their friends, for a taste of the lifestyle that only seems to exist on the Instagram feeds of models.

Festival-goers paid anywhere from $450 for a no-frills day pass to up to $250,000 for the full VIP experience. One widely-advertised festival package cost $12,000. There were even packages that included a private yacht.
Yikes! 250 grand is what Virgin Galactic charges for a trip to space, albeit a very brief one. Fortunately, Richard Branson, George Whitesides et al have a much better track record than the Fyre festival scammers, so it is possible to avoid being scammed.

My dad’s grandfather was in the banking industry. Now neither my Dad nor me obviously knew him but he definitely shaped my Dad’s father and my dad’s father was one of the most liberal and open minded people. He was someone who very much frowned on the n-word(this was the 50’s), treated his wife as an equal, etc.

I went out to do my 5 mile run this morning and had to stop at mile 2 because of a muscle pain in my left foot.
Of course, then I had to walk home the two miles that I had already run.
And now my brain is being unhappy with me for not running the 5 miles that I was supposed to even though I bailed on the rest of it for a very good reason.

re: #349 Timothy Watson
As I said upthread, some of those evil Wall Streeters are more reliably Democratic voters than his fucking Bros.
You are on the right track. Bernie probably thinks he could have/still could keep any reliable Democrat as well as add to them by creating and catering to his new even more reliable backers.
That is why they all think he would have won and could still win. He would have had all the Clinton voters plus his backers added up. That means more voters than Clinton and enough to have overcome Trump.
And you can never prove a Bernie BackerTM is wrong. That is why they are right.
See how easy this all is? Politics is simple!

Are we sure? I’m starting to wonder if Trump isn’t intentionally trying to destroy our allies in the region which he sees as trade competitors. For example, six hour old story:
Trump: ‘We may terminate’ U.S.-South Korea trade agreement
This is something that Trump was ranting about back in 2011 when he was teasing that he might run against Obama.

We’re Irish-German on that side. Dad’s Dad was the son of a German immigrant, teh above mentioned banker and Nana came from an Irish family. I was reading some stuff about the history of North Sdie Ptitsburgh where Dad’s parents are from and it said that the two ethnicities would often intermarry. Makes sense, my great aunt and uncle also married Irish-Americans.

Trump would have loved this President thing if it ended on January 21st 2017.
We are learning he has no idea of politics, the office, government and history. So you have to excuse him, he didn’t know there was 4 years of actually having to do something.
What kind of “win” is that? Winning means things just got better and they told me this was the best thing to win bigly. I did it, I won bigly…look at this graphic it’s all red.
Now you punish me with having to make tough decisions and to learn a bunch of stuff I never knew.
That should be for losers…like Hillary and Obama. Let them run it for losing!
